DIMAPUR: District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) meetings for the month of September were held in Kohima, Wokha and Zunheboto to discuss various issues and agendas for the development of the districts on September 15.
Kohima DPDB recommends seven societies for registration
Kohima District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) meeting recommended seven societies for registration during its monthly meeting in the conference hall of DPDB Kohima. The meeting was chaired by DC and vice chairman DPDB Kohima, Gregory Thejawelie.
Representatives of the societies presented the aims and objective of their societies during the meeting.
The societies included Bumblebee Society, Upper Agri colony Kohima; Kohima District Amateur Boxing Association, High School Kohima; Kohima District Table Tennis Association, Officers Hill Kohima; Nagaland Table Tennis Association, AG colony Kohima; Bridge of Hope, Perizie colony Kohima; De Operettas Music and Arts Society, Puro Complex, Supply colony and Rev. Moa Longchari Cancer Foundation, Peraciezie High School Road.
The house deliberated on the matters and based on the recommendation submitted by screening committee, the house decided to recommend it to the government for approval and necessary action.
On 10 Northern Angami I A/C recasting of iconic project under 20212022, the house decided to recommend the change of programme from cementing of one road to construction of clock tower and forward it to planning to take up with the state planning board for necessary action.
In regard to aspirational block of Tseminyu block, DC informed responsible departments who had not submitted their five-year plan to take note of it and submit the plan by this week for onward submission to the nodal department.
DC also reminded the members of district level committee for sustainable development goals (SDGs) to come prepared with details and information as required in the next meeting fixed on September 22.
Social welfare department gave a PowerPoint presentation on departmental activities under district welfare office by DWO Akali Sema; Integrated Child Development Service (ICDS) by CDPO James Ezung and Integrated Child Protection Services Nagaland (ICPS) by programme manager, Raitalie Zeliang.
Mmhonlumo releases Lotha dictionary
Advisor, IT, Science and Technology, NRE, Mmhonlumo Kikon launched an Anglo-Lotha dictionary during the Wokha DPDB meeting held in the conference hall of the deputy commissioner (DC), Wokha.
According to a DIPR report, Mmhonlumo Kikon thanked the department of art & culture and Lotha Academy for coming together in publishing the dictionary which was significant for the Lotha community.
Mmhonlumo said that the department had many activities and programmes to promote art & culture of the state to the world, yet, he said that this initiation was significant for Naga people as activities may come and go, but the Book would remain.
The advisor also thanked Yanbeni Yanthan and assistant professor, Centre for Naga Tribal Language Studies, Nagaland University, Dr. Imlienla Imchen who took the initiative as it was not easy to bring out a dictionary with a phonetic symbol properly ascribed.
While speaking at the function, director of art & culture, Adela Moa said that in 2018, the planning department requetsed the art & culture department to take up some programme of the Tribal Research Institute (TRI) under the ministry of tribal affairs to bring out dictionary of different Naga languages.
Against this backdrop, the directorate of art & culture along with Yanbeni Yanthan and Dr. Imlienla Imchen collaborated to document the regional language of the Nagas, starting out first with Lotha language.
The book is the first Naga regional dictionary to use the international phonetic alphabet which she believed would be beneficial for Lotha language speakers, students and scholars to use for pronunciation.
On behalf of the people of the district, vice chairman DPDB Wokha and DC Wokha, Orenthung Lotha thanked the department for the initiative.
The board also recommended to the higher authority for consideration on upgrading of Government High School Sanis to Government Higher Secondary School.
The department of agriculture gave a PowerPoint on department activities in the district.
Meanwhile, chief medical officer (CMO), Dr. C.W Tungoe also highlighted COVID-19 scenario in the district.
Earlier, the board welcomed SP Wokha Menangmeren, assistant district education officer, K. Ruby Humtsoe, SDEO Sanis, S. Lichio Yanthan, DEO (EVL), DFO Doyang H. Tokugha Chopy.
Pukhayi seeks assistance for farmers
Advisor Food and Civil Supply (F&CS), Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection (LMCP) and Taxes, Pukhayi Sumi sought assistance from state minister of agriculture and cooperation, G Kaito Aye for farmers who were hard-hit by droughtlike situation.
Pukhayi who is chairman of Zunbeboto DPDB was speaking at the monthly DPDB meeting held in the conference hall of Sumi Hoho, Zunheboto.
In his short speech, the advisor sought support from Kaito, who was also present at the meeting, for the farmers especially those who cultivate corn crops as the entire crop was destroyed by fall army worm. Pukhayi also advised the farmers to send photo evidence to the concerned department for necessary action.
Minister Kaito asked the departments particularly agri and allied departments to keep in touch with the farmers to understand their problems and brief the government of their grievances.
Kaito said a request had been made to the government to look into the farmers’ problems and solve it sooner by providing modern technology agricultural equipment.
He also directed the departments to submit their performance or developmental activities in the next meeting and also directed the head of departments to be present in station and help the people of Zunheboto.
During discussion hour which was also attended by the general manager of NHIDCL, the legislators and various NGOs expressed displeasure over the slow pace work and asked them to expedite the work as per the DPR.
PWD R&B department presented various departmental activities and the problems faced by the department non-payment of salaries of almost half of labours under Zunheboto division for more than two years.
Briefing the gathering on the present COVID status, medical department informed that till date 49237 people has been vaccinated taking the vaccinated percentage to around 65% and also add that that 13 villages has been declared as fully vaccinated village.
The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Peter Lichamo and attended by advisor school education KT Sukhalu. DIMAPUR: Power department has informed that damage of feeders by storm has resulted in total disruption of power supply to Zubza Gref Camp area, Lalmati, Kiruphema, Peducha and Mengujuma.
In a press release, SDO transmission sub-division Kohima that the 33kV Lalmati feeder and 33kV AP-1 feeder had been damaged near Zubza Gref Camp due to heavy storm on September 15, 2021. The department said it was making all efforts to restore the said transmission line at the earliest and requested all responsible to bear with the inconvenience caused. NBSE cautions on online gaming
DIMAPUR: Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) has notified for information of all the heads of registered institutions under NBSE to be aware of the “ill effects of online gaming addiction/ abuse” among students.
In a notification, NBSE said that online gaming can be accessed with the use of a phone or a tablet which it said was a common factor in online game addiction as children can easily play games anywhere and anytime affecting school and social life. “The closure of schools due to the pandemic has increased use of mobile and internet by children”, NBSE stated.
It said that playing online games led to a serious gaming addiction which was considered as a gaming disorder. NBSE has, therefore requested the heads of institutions to share the concerns and sensitise parents and teachers about the harmful effects of online gaming.

DCC Dimapur pays tribute to late Oscar Fernandes

DIMAPUR: District congress committee (DCC) Dimapur held a condolence prayer meeting in the DCC office to pay last respects to former union minister and veteran Congress leader, late Oscar Fernandes who passed away on September 13 in Mangalore.
In a press release, NPCC communication department informed that NPCC president, K Therie recalled the life of Fernandes, his immense contribution to the Congress party and to the cause of Nagas, particularly when he headed group of ministers on Naga political issue.
Therie said that the late leader also widely travelled across Nagaland for party works and perfectly understood the aspirations and sentiments of the people.
Others who paid tributes included NPCC vice president, W Akum Yim, DCC Dimapur president, Tsenthungo Nyamo and chairman of NPCC minority department, Rajesh Sethi. The programme was attended by Pradesh Congress committee (PCC) and Dimapur DCC officials.

PHE department conducts ‘Swachhata Shramdaan’

DIMAPUR: Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) Kohima division conducted “Swachhata Shram daan” on Wednesday at Tseminyu sub-division by cleaning public places, collecting single use plastic waste (SUP) at National High 02 and in and around the town area.
In a press release, the department informed that the programme was part of the 100-day campaign on “sustainability of ODF gains and achieving million soak pits” in consonance with 75th Independence Day “azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav” which commenced on August 25 and would culminate on December 2, 2021.
The department informed that the collected single use plastic waste was stored at plastic waste management centre Tseminyu located at Tseminyu sub-division PHED store compound. During the campaign, executive engineer PHED, Kohima rural, Vikienyu Zutso stressed on the importance of maintaining soak pit for managing grey water at household level. He urged the responsible citizens to make use of all the locally available materials to make individual soak pit and encouraged the citizens to minimized single use plastic in daily dwellings. Vikienyu further emphasised on segregation of plastic and bio-degradable waste and motivated the people to make use of plastic waste management centre facility which was set up by the department of PHED Kohima Rural Division at Tseminyu. The Tseminyu Town youth, WATSAN and swacchagrahis participated in the “swachhata shramdaan”. Dimapur: Dimapur district took forward the 100 days campaign under the Swachhata Shramdaan through cleaning public places and collection and segregation of SUP on September 15 at Dhansiripar community hall. In a press release, PHED rural division, Dimapur IEC consultant, Vibou Seyie informed that the programme was attended by GB, village council chairman, WATSAN, Swachhagrahis of three neighbouring villages Dhansiripar HQ, Dhansiripar village and Amaluma. The participants were also apprised of the components of ODF plus and the points of focus for community leaders and how to work to achieve it. They were also asked to pass resolutions for ODF sustainability and achieve the targeted requirement of soak pits at household level, for grey water management during the 100-day campaign. The interaction also focused on eliminating SUP as per the Plastic Waste Management Amendment Rules 2021, disallow littering of single use plastic and villages to stop open plastic burning. The programme organised by PHED, Dimapur Rural division, Dimapur was led by District Water and Sanitation Mission (DWSM) district coordinator, Imojungla Longkumer and DWSM Dimapur, IEC consultant Vibou Seyie.
Kaito Aye inaugurates NDPP Zbto region office building

DIMAPUR: Minister for agriculture and co-operation G Kaito Aye inaugurated the new NDPP Zunheboto region office building on September 15.
According to a DIPR report, the minister in his inaugural speech assured the people that the legislators were working tirelessly and firmly to settle the Naga issue with the government of India at the earliest.
He encouraged the people to not only seek government jobs but also practice farming and agri allied works as the government was had schemes and projects. Kaito requested the people to avoid all misconception regarding Covid vaccine and encouraged all to get vaccinated. In his speech, advisor, school education KT Sukhalu said that since the party was new, the legislature was working hard and making effort to work for the people and to strengthen the party but unfortunately the pandemic had brought the entire world to a standstill. Sukhalu requested the people to bear with them and cooperate in order to make the party strong and people friendly. Advisor to food and civil supplies, LMCP and taxes Pukhayi Assumi said that since the party’s inception in 2018, it had grown stronger in every way and hence congratulated the party workers and encouraged them to work more sincerely. While chairing the programme, NDPP Zunheboto region president Khehoshe H Yepthomi thanked the rank and file of the entire party workers for always working together and strengthening the party. Earlier dedicatory prayer was said by Zunheboto town Sumi Baptist church, pastor Rev. Dr. Daniel Chishi.
