After Noble was denied bail on three occasions by Magistrate André Matulich, Matulich said that Noble was a victim of conspiracy after it was discovered that one of the State witnesses’ statement was quite similar to that of two other State witnesses’ statements. Yesterday’s briefing was to help clarify the technical aspects regarding the capacity on which the overhead lines are currently running. Depending on the load drawn at the time of the fault, there may be load shedding until the bulk upgrade line to Walvis Bay is completed in 2016. Walvis Bay currently has two main overhead
lines, with a combined capacity load of up to 60MW of power into town (up to 30MW per line). These do not have an N-1safety criterion yet. The N-1 criterion expresses the ability of the transmission system to lose a linkage without causing an overload failure elsewhere. “On Wednesday we reached a 34MW usage, however, due to the broken conductor on one
line, the other line had to carry the entire load of Walvis Bay. We then had to initiate an emergency load shedding to avoid a total collapse of the entire network,” he explained. “All customers were affected by this outage and we regret any inconvenience caused as a result,” Kahimise said. The load-shedding lasted up to two hours in certain areas of Walvis Continues on page 2
