Murangi, Woman of Excellence Staff Reporter

Mrs Elsa Murangi, coordinator of the Walvis Bay Child and Family Centre, has been named one of the Standard Bank’s Women of Excellence finalists. “I feel honoured to have won this prestigious award,” Mrs Murangi says. “It feels as if all the hard work has finally paid off. It is good advertisement for my centre to be awarded on such a scale.” In the spirit of Women’s month (August) winners of the award were announced at the crowning of Miss Namibia 2014 in Windhoek, on 2 August. Fifty/fifty representation of women in government is a good thing, Murangi continued. “If you empower women, you empower the nation,” she explained. Patricia Siska Nalisa from the Katima Mulilo Youth Center (joint category B), Ms Carol Tsitsi Semedo, manager at the Nampharm Foundation (category A), Christaline Vega-Biart of Katutura Soap Making Project and Sofia Sem of the Usakos Private Hostel were also awarded a Continues on page 2

Following the visit of the Nigerian President to Namibia in March, Cabinet recently approved the plan to construct a new salt refinery near Henties Bay. During the delivery of his Annual State of the Region address, the Governor of Erongo region, Mr Cleophas Mutjavikua announced last week that “in addition to the existing salt refineries, a new salt refinery had been approved by the Cabinet of the Republic

of Namibia to commence their business near Henties Bay.” Mutjavikua said the Nigerian authorities are keenly interested in exporting salt from Namibia and without going into much detail, said the process was delayed, because “the bureaucratic process took

The pair beat Norfolk Islands, Jersey and Cook Islands in the group phase, only losing to Australia. In

the quarterfinal Namibia caused an upset, beating Australia 19:12, but then unfortunately lost the semifinal against Malaysia. In the playoff for bronze, England was the better team on the day, forcing Calitz/ Esterhuizen to settle for fourth place. Namibia's 'four team', 'triple team' and 'single player' missed out on a top two position in their respective groups which would have taken them from the group phase to the quarter final. For single player, Will Esterhuizen, this was by the slightest of margins, finishing on equal points with Zambia's Harry Musonda, but on a lower

Winter seems to be truly here – and few golfers are bra Last Saturday, we had the pleasure of Weiss Hardware sponsoring the Competition and just over 30 players participated. Thank you Eric for your very generous prizes, and we look forward to your being with us again in 2015 ! It was an interesting and fiercely closely fought competition; three

players shared the honours on a score of 37 points: W Borg, E Uushona and W Reitz. Congratulations. Wednesday's golf drew a greater field than normal, and the very cold “south wester” did not prevent J van Schalkwyk winning on 36 for the best 18 holes: followed by T Boesch as runner up on
