Hello friends!
A spellbinding season filled with enchanting events, October marks our
unofficial start to the holiday season! In between picking out costumes, planning school parties, hosting family gatherings and juggling the hustle and bustle that comes with fall, we’ve officially arrived in our busiest season! For Lauren Carnes, staying busy is just another part of life! This month’s featured photographer balances life and work with ease – when she’s not running her photography business, she’s active in the NAPCP community (she’ll be a guest speaker at our annual winter retreat and will teach a creative class on styling and photographing food), exploring new cities, cooking with her husband and soaking in all the beauty that life has to offer!
Like Lauren, we too, believe in developing strong community relationships. On
November 5, the NAPCP Ambassador Program will host its first NAPCP Gathering for members to join in fellowship. With ambassadors around the globe, it’s easy to find a group to call home! If you aren’t (or you are!) able to make the Gathering, we encourage you to join us for our annual NAPCP Retreat in January. A great time to form life-long friendships and explore new and innovative ways to enhance your business, this is the vacation you won’t want to miss! Registration is now open.
Other happenings you should pencil in: Christmas photo shoots! Most
photographers are wrapping up orders to ensure on-time delivery for the holidays. If you’ve been holding out, check out our NAPCP directory to find your nearest photographer. While you’re browsing the website, don’t forget to check out the NAPCP store! We’re offering new products including Client Inquiry Notepads!
Last, but definitely not least, congratulations again to all of our July International
Image Competition winners! Thank you for participating this year, and we look forward to many more successful showcases!
Sincerely
The NAPCP Team 01 | NAPCP

Tell us your story. How you started and how your photography, brand, and business transformed over the last couple of years? I've always been "the girl with the camera" and have loved capturing memories and events with friends and family. After graduating college and working for a public relations agency doing social media & traditional PR for a few years, my husband's medical school career would soon be turning into a residency in a new city. I knew I was looking for some kind of creative outlet & really thought I'd like to try out photography strictly to take friend's engagement photos as their wedding gift. I quickly realized I could actually enjoy photography as a career, and began second shooting for photographers at weddings & booking clients of my own.

I went part time for the PR agency April 30, 2014, and launched Lauren Carnes Photography May 1. From there, I began shooting weddings, food & lifestyle throughout the Southeast and officially went full time in April 2015! Your portfolio is diverse (and gorgeous!), from wedding and family photography to food and location photography. Tell us what makes food photography so special? Thank you so much! The variety of things I get to shoot really fires me up! For me, food is something we all inherently connect with every single day. Food in itself is inspiring to me. Each flavor and texture of different foods is so unique and required a process to create.

I love being able to capture the freshness and natural beauty of ingredients, the process and person behind the cooking, and the final result. Finally, the styling & plating of the food can really make the various elements pop and tell the story of the dish. I find the food inspiring & love that it is the way that we connect with each other: around a table, dining & sipping, "doing life" together. What is your favorite, and most challenging, thing about being an entrepreneur? Favorite: Being able to connect and collaborate with so many talented, kind and genuine people. The community of creatives & small business owners is a special one, for sure. Most Challenging: Wanting to "do it all" - I want to say

yes to everything & everyone but also know that not every client is for me, and I'mgoing to be my best self when I dedicate time to investing in my life: personally & professionally. We can't wait to have you as a speaker at our January retreat! Can you share a little tidbit about what you will be teaching? I'm so thrilled to be a part and to have the opportunity to chat about the process of food photography & styling all while encouraging people to get a bit hands on and try something out of their normal element. We'll be talking through best tips for naturally lighting food, general principles for styling, & how food photography (or the concepts

behind it) can play a role in our every day lives and businesses. More than anything, we'll get to talk about seeing food as more than just a meal to eat, but a story to tell. What does the next five years look like for Lauren Carnes Photography? Oh goodness, I can't wait to see! I've had the privilege to work with such amazing people, creatives and brands in the past couple years, so am excited for what's in store! My husband is a medical resident, so 5 years from now, Lauren Carnes Photography will be based somewhere new. But the beauty in photography is that we can shoot from wherever we are! The opportunities are endless, and I'm grateful for the adventure & such a portable career! Regardless, I hope to be working alongside talented creatives and companies capturing food, branding, travel & lifestyle images that cohesively communicate visually alongside all other elements of the brand. I also hope to continue capturing life-changing moments in people's lives through weddings! And finally, I genuinely love teaching, building community and investing in my people, so I hope to be mentoring other photographers, hosting workshops, having friends over for cooking & shooting food get-togethers, and pouring into the creative community around me. Thank you so much Lauren!
