PAWS FOR A CAUSE

Attention all Nassau Bay animal lovers, there is a terrific free event planned for our community that is certain to be a hit with all residents and our beloved pets! The Community Association of Nassau Bay Enhancement (CANBE) will host the first annual Paws for a Cause event: Saturday, April 1, 2017 11am to 3pm Nassau Bay Pavilion While Nassau Bay has had the great luxury of a local animal shelter, the increasing number of animals taken into the shelter over recent years have led to a need for greater support. Paws for a Cause is a chance for citizens, both two-legged and four-legged, to show their support while enjoying fun, games, food, and friends. The event is free to attend and tickets will be sold to participate in the numerous fun activities or to enjoy the wonderful food available. Activities will include Musical Sit, Fetch, Catch, Silent Auction, Shelter Tour, Costume Contest and more throughout the day. All event proceeds will benefit the Nassau Bay Animal Shelter. For more information about the shelter and the animals available for adoption, please visit www. nassaubay.com/animalshelter. GARDEN CLUB NEWS

Spring has certainly sprung in Nassau Bay! Don’t you just love watching the trees bud and then be fully “leafed out” within the week? Residents have brought out their gardening gloves and tools to spruce up their yards. These photos are of beautiful gardens right here in our city! Stroll through the streets for your own inspirations.

Vegetable gardens of all sorts are being built. Keep in mind that a veggie garden can be one or two kinds of vegetables. Don’t stress out trying to be a “Farmer Brown.” The idea with gardening is to relax and enjoy watching what happens with your plants. Yes, some may die (do I hear a Gasp!?) but that is just part of gardening. On the other hand, you can plant a tiny plant and watch it flourish. April’s Garden Club meeting is following a bit of a different path. The Aromatherapy Garden program is all about growing fragrant plants for happiness and well-being. We read these articles in home magazines all the time. Your fellow gardener, Dr. Margaret Hill’s program will inspire you to try a different approach to gardening. She will provide the names of plants for you to try to plant a fragrant, relaxing garden to sit in when it becomes too warm to garden. Please join us April 11th in City Hall, Council Chambers, for Social at 9:30am followed by the meeting at 10:00am. Bring a friend! Remember, you do not have to be a member to come for a program. All interested gardeners are welcome! Happy Gardening! Visit www.nassaubaygc.org for more information.

YOUR $2 FIRE & EMS DONATIONS AT WORK The City of Nassau Bay Utility Department provides residents with the opportunity to make a voluntary $2.00 donation to the Nassau Bay Volunteer Fire Department and Emergency Medical Service with the payment of each water bill. Donations are used by these departments for tools, resources, and capital items to better provide emergency services to our community. During the past year, the Fire Department used these donations for new sonar for the Fire & Police boat, surveillance cameras for the Command Post, and a radio for Engine 82. The Emergency Medical Service used their donations for a radio for Medic 8 (the primary ambulance) and for a new LUCAS 3.0 Chest Compression System. If you want to donate to the Volunteer Fire Department and Emergency Medical Service, look this section on your next water bill and simply add the $2 to your payment. This donation may be considered a taxdeductible charitable donation since the City is a qualified entity and the donation is being used for a restricted public purpose. Please contact your tax professional for more information about taxdeductible charitable donations.
