EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AWARD

City Manager Jason Reynolds, Emergency Management Coordinator Dena Mahan, Deputy Emergency Management Coordinator Tom George, and former Nassau Bay Emergency Management Coordinator Jamie Galloway attended the 2020 Emergency Management Association of Texas Annual Awards Luncheon. The City of Nassau Bay was nominated by the City of Baytown and was selected for an award for Excellence in Emergency Management (Flood Mitigation and Home Elevation Project) for our region. Great work to all those involved in this project – Nassau Bay is stronger because of our Emergency Management team!

NAUTICATS REGISTRATION

The Nassau Bay Nauticats summer swim team is now accepting online registration for swimmers ages 5-18. The Nauticats are a fun, familyfriendly team, rooted in the Nassau Bay community for more than 50 years. The team practices at the Nassau Bay HOA pool (afternoons until school is out, then mornings, through early July). The Nauticats compete against other teams in the Clear Creek Swim League, with swim meets on Saturday mornings, May 30th through June 27th. HLS&R HONORS SERGEANT SULLIVAN

On March 9th the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo hosted First Responder Night, in which they recognized area police, fire and EMS personnel. Chief Tim Cromie was invited to ride in the Grand Entry Parade to open the rodeo. In addition, Sergeant Kaila Sullivan was remembered as one of the fallen during the past year.

Presented a Proclamation to the Nassau Bay Garden Club in recognition of Beautification Day on March 28th.

Recognized Nassau Bay's EMAT Award for Excellence in Emergency Management.

Tabled an ordinance amending Section 16-2 of Chapter 16 – Signs, Article I – in General, Section 16-2 “Signs permitted; on-premises signs, signs permitted according to district” to ban signs in the public right-of-way. Approved the first of two readings of an ordinance amending Municipal Code Chapter 4 – buildings and construction, Article IX. – bulkheads, Section 4-197. – permit required, Section 4-198. – Definitions and Section 4-201. – bulkheads required to be maintained in safe condition. Approved an annual resolution accepting the Anti-Fraud Policy designed to enforce controls and to aid in the prevention and detection of fraud, theft, waste, or abuse against the City. Approved an annual resolution exempting from 2020 Ad Valorem Taxes a portion of the market value of a residence homestead as authorized by the Constitution of the State of Texas. Approved a resolution reappointing Presiding Judge Holly Williamson and Relief Judge Win Weber to the Municipal Court. Approved the second and final reading of an ordinance for the purpose of preventing vessels in neglected or deteriorating condition from reaching a likely and foreseeable state of disrepair. Approved the first and only reading of an ordinance amending the FY19 Budget. Heard a presentation on the Audited Financial Statements and Accompanying Documents for Fiscal Year Ending September 30, 2019 by Belt Harris Pechacek, LLLP with acceptance of same by Council. Heard a presentation on the City’s Palm Tree Survey and action plan for the NASA 1 medians. Approved fees for the usage of the City’s parks’ facilities.
