NEWSLETTER CONTEST
Last month, we asked you to submit suggestions for a new name for this newsletter. It was called "City News" and with this new design it seemed like the right time to consider a name that better represents our unique community. We received so many great suggestions and want to thank everyone that submitted their ideas. The winning submission is "Compass Rose" submitted by longtime Nassau Bay resident since 1969, Ms. Irene Tomkins. The Compass Rose is a symbol that has great meaning for Nassau Bay as the current City seal. When Nassau Bay was incorporated in 1970 it was the city's logo. It is also said that the founders selected the Compass Rose as being symbolic of two things: 1) Its significance to the navigator as an instrument for determining and planning a course to be followed by action, such as the carefully charted and planned development of Nassau Bay; and 2) Its symbolic relation to the vast trackless seas, from which the Bahama Islands draw much of their atmosphere of adventure, romance, and grace. It was from Nassau in the Bahamas that inspiration was taken for the initial vision of Nassau Bay. Congrats & Thank You Ms. Irene Tomkins!
