VOLUNTEERS
On November 1st, we celebrated and honored volunteers that contribute to making Nassau Bay the wonderful place that it is. A special gift was given to an outstanding volunteer, Michie Coldwell. Michie is an active volunteer for Nassau Bay and one way he volunteers is by riding his bike around the City picking up litter and reporting any issues or concerns he finds along the way. We gave Michie a brand new bike complete with additional safety features. As you can see in the photo, the gift was truly appreciated and he took a test ride around the room. GARDEN CLUB NEWS
The holiday season is almost upon Nassau Bay! The entrance walls, shoreline and gardens have all been spruced up thanks to the many awesome residents who came out for Beautification Day! The City and Garden Club would especially like to thank Tuie Lee, Cherry Nims, and Chick-Fil-A on 646.
GIVING BACK
The US Marine Corps Reserve Unit of Galveston, TX, Toys for Tots has several collection sites around the area and a few in Nassau Bay now through December 15th. Nassau Bay City Hall 1800 Space Park Drive, Suite 200 CVS 1610 NASA Road 1 Dollar General 18091 Upper Bay Road New and unwrapped toys are accepted. A variety is desired because toys and items are needed for newborns through age 17. All toys collected in Nassau Bay will be redistributed to needy children throughout our area and extending into Galveston and South Houston. Donations will also be accepted at Holiday in the Park on December 10th from 2-4pm at Howard Ward Park (18300 Upper Bay Road, Nassau Bay).
The weather is cooler so it is a great time to plant colorful dianthus, marigolds, snap dragons, pansies, and cyclamen. Not sure what to plant? A walk through any one of the six gardens which are maintained by the Garden Club will give you many ideas about all the kinds of plants that flourish in this area (Zone 9). Did you have small, brown moths fly into your yard a few weeks ago? They lay eggs in your grass. The larvae will eat the grass at the roots. Please read about sodworms to learn about the treatments needed. Fall is a wonderful time to be outside gardening so consider grabbing an empty flower pot and a pack of flowers to plant. Placing it by your doorway will make it look merry and bright! Happy Holidays from the Garden Club! Learn more about the Garden Club and the upcoming events on their website at www.nassaubaygc.org.

RESIDENTIAL TRASH
Residents receive back-door sanitation pick-up services as part of their annual property tax payment. The back-door pickup is a special benefit to residents and our City and allows for our streets to look cleaner and to maintain our City's appearance. Please make sure you are following the rules. • Residential trash is collected on Monday and Thursday. If a collection day falls on a holiday, it will be collected the next regular trash day. The City is fortunate that AmeriWaste provides service on many holidays. Please check the website calendar which is updated as soon as City Staff is informed of holiday trash collection times. • Citizens should keep household trash at the garage or back door location for collection. • Heavy trash is collected on Mondays. All yard debris, grass clippings (clippings must be bagged and not placed loosely in a trash can), and household appliances/furniture must be placed at the curb for collection. • Residents must bundle the following materials: rubbish, brush, tree limbs/trimmings and other wood waste. Bundles may not exceed 5 feet in length, 18 inches in diameter, and 50 lbs in weight. Bundles should be placed within 5 feet of the roadway. Residents are limited to 5 bundles and 10 bags per pickup. • No hazardous substances are allowed. • To keep our neighborhoods clean and free of debris, do not place curbside items until the evening of the day before pickup. If you have any questions about your service, please call AmeriWaste at 281.331.8400.
Help find loving forever homes for all of the dogs and cats at the shelter. Please call us and schedule a time to meet one of our dogs or cats that is ready for adoption. 281.333.2944 www.nassaubay.com/animalshelter 18900 Upper Bay Rd., Nassau Bay Hours: Mon-Thurs 7:30am-5:30pm & Fri 7:30-11:30am
RESIDENTIAL RECYCLING
Residential recycling is a fee-based service that residents can utilize with AmeriWaste for $36.70/year for Back Door Recycling or $18.11/year for Curbside Recycling. Once a resident has established service they will receive a 35-gallon plastic rolling recycling cart in which they collect and co-mingle recyclable items. Pick-up is provided on Thursdays. It is the same day as trash service, but the recycling cart must be placed noticeably apart from trash items. It is important only recyclables go in the recycling cart. Any trash placed in the recycling cart compromises AmeriWaste’s ability to recycle the recyclable items. Accepted (Cleaned/Rinsed): • Aluminum Cans or Aluminum Foil Products • Tin or Bi-Metal Cans • Glass Bottles • Plastics #1 through #5 • Corrugated Cardboard (Flattened) • Newsprint, Magazine, and Paper Items NOT Accepted: • Items Contaminated with Food • Ceramics, Mirrors, Auto Glass • Plastic #6, Plastic Wrap, Grocery Bags, Egg Cartons, Disposable Take-Away Containers, Flammable Containers • Packing Peanuts, Food-Contaminated Paper (i.e. Pizza Boxes) Including unacceptable items may contaminate entire truckloads of recycling and prevent their proper recycling. For more information about the residential recycling program or waste pick-up service, please visit www. nassaubay.com/recycle or contact AmeriWaste at 281.331.8400.
