HOLIDAY IN THE PARK
Saturday, December 9th, 2:00pm to 4:00pm Howard Ward Park (18300 Upper Bay Road) Please join us for the Annual Holiday in the Park event hosted by the Nassau Bay Special Events Committee and the City of Nassau Bay. Meet Santa, play in the snow, ride a tube down the snow slide, sing carols, and much more. In addition, our very own Nassau Bay Nauticats will be at the event selling beautiful poinsettias as a fundraiser for the scholarship fund. For more information, please visit www.nassaubay.com/specialevents.
USMC TOYS FOR TOTS
The City of Nassau Bay will be an official USMC Toys for Tots collection site, sponsored by the USMC Reserve Unit of Galveston, TX. All toys collected in Nassau Bay will be redistributed to needy children throughout our area. Share some love this holiday season by bringing a new, unwrapped toy to City Hall (1800 Space Park Drive, Ste 200). Additionally, gifts will be accepted at the Annual Holiday in the Park celebration. Toys for Tots will have toy collection boxes and volunteers on hand to collect toys. There are hundreds of needy kids in Nassau Bay's immediate area, ranging from newborns to age 17. Please consider, while most tend to think about younger chidren when thoughtfully purchasing gifts, teenagers are the age group most often overlooked. Volunteers typically scramble to find age appropriate gifts for teens, so that all have presents for Christmas. Toy collection boxes will be available at City Hall, CVS, and Dollar General through December 16th. Toy donations of any size are greatly appreciated! Additionally, monetary donations can be made payable to USMC Toys for Tots Foundation. Contact Tina Clark at 281.507.7976 for more information.
CLEAR LAKE BOAT PARADE
After Holiday in the Park, you can watch or participate in the 56th Annual Clear Lake Christmas Boat Lane Parade. Fireworks will be launched from Nassau Bay Peninsula at 6:00pm to signal the start of the parade. You can enjoy this event from land or by boat. More than 100 brightly decorated power and sailboats will traverse the Clear Lake channel from South Shore Harbour Marina and the Nassau Bay Lagoon to Galveston Bay. For more information, please visit www.nassaubay.com/specialevents.

ST. THOMAS LAS POSADAS
Las Posadas is Spanish for “The Inns.” It is a religious festival celebrated in Mexico and some parts of the United States between December 16 and 24. This festival commemorates the journey Joseph and Mary made to Bethlehem in search of a safe refuge where Mary could give birth to the baby Jesus. St. Thomas’ 2nd grade will recreate this journey in a one-evening event on Thursday, December 14th at 6:00pm. After the procession from St. Thomas to the gazebo in Howard Ward Park, there will be hot chocolate and traditional Mexican desserts served in Krist Hall. The community is invited to join in for this wonderful Christmas-time event.
NASSAU BAY GARDEN CLUB
Arbor Day Celebration: Arbor Day was celebrated on November 7th by the Nassau Bay Garden Club and students from St. Thomas the Apostle Episcopal School. Students sang a lovely song, accompanied by Reverend Mike Stone, and recited a choral poem. Garden Club member Deborah Boswell recited a poem commemorating the City of Nassau Bay's resilience. Mayor Mark Denman presented a proclamation in honor of the celebration. This year's ceremony marked the 53rd year the Garden Club has planted a tree in the community for Arbor Day. This year, members planted a red drum maple in the park. December Celebrations: December is the month the Garden Club decorates the Tranquility Arbor in Howard Ward Park. Additionally, instead of the regular meeting, the Garden Club will celebrate with a December holiday luncheon. Feel free to let a Garden Club friend know you would like to accompany her or him. January Tasting Luncheon: Looking forward to the New Year, the Garden Club will enjoy the very popular tasting luncheon on January 9th (after the scheduled meeting at 9:30am). Members will bring dishes to share - there are some well known cooks in the club, so be prepared for a delicious meal! Join the Garden Club on January 9th, they would love for you to be an honored guest! Garden Club Notes: Beautification Day is postponed until March 24, 2018 due to Hurricane Harvey and current citywide construction.
NASSAU BAY HOMES ASSOCIATION
Merry Christmas! It’s that time of year again! Homeowners have, or will shortly, receive their Nassau Bay Homes Association dues invoice. NBHA thanks you for paying your dues expeditiously and avoiding further collection efforts. NBHA dues (the lowest in the area) go toward keeping the community beautiful, funding the maintenance and utilities of the pool and marina, and retaining a management company to handle NBHA assets. Check the letter enclosed with your invoice to find a more detailed explanation of activities. For those who are contemplating changes to their residences, a gentle reminder that regardless of the scale of any work required, don’t forget to complete an ARA (Architectural Review Application). Forms maybe found at www.nbhaweb.com. Select “Announcing”, “Forms” and “Architectural Review Application”. Start planning your Christmas home decorations! Judging of this year’s contest will be Saturday, December 16th. Join the fun and make Nassau Bay Christmas beautiful!

HOME ELEVATION GRANT The City of Nassau Bay will be hosting a community informational meeting about the Home Elevation Grant and application process on December 6th at 4:00pm. The meeting will be held at City Hall in the City Council Chambers (1800 Space Park Drive, Ste 200). The City will have representatives present to discuss the program and answer questions. If your property is listed as a repetitive loss or severe repetitive loss property, homeowners may be eligible to receive a grant that may pay 25%, 90% or 100% of the cost of elevation of your home. The homeowner will be responsible for the remaining match and any HOA requirements or non-eligible work. The Home Elevation Grant is offered through the Federal Emergency Management Administration and Texas Water Development Board. The City of Nassau Bay will apply for this grant in the upcoming year. The process for this grant is time intensive, and the City will begin gathering information from residents and compiling data for submission of the grant in 2018. Contact Jamie Galloway at jamie. galloway@nassaubay.com for more information about grant eligibility.
EMPLOYEES OF THE YEAR The City of Nassau Bay has outstanding employees. Each year, the employees have the opportunity to vote for co-workers who they feel make a positive impact in the lives of the citizens we serve and their coworkers. Although we have many people who do this on a daily basis, the votes helped us narrow it down for our Employee of the Year, Supervisor of the Year, and Officer of the Year.
EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR - ROBERT VILLANUEVA
Robert Villanueva has been an employee of Public Works for 11 years. He began his career in the Parks Department and through dedication, hard work, and proven initiative was promoted to Field Operator I. His consistency and knowledge of water and sewer repairs has been recognized by his peers. Robert's dedication to after-hours repairs and emergencies shows his desire to go above and beyond. He assists in the oversight of the daily operations of the City's water and sewer line replacement and coordinates with contractors. Robert is a great asset to Public Works and the citizens of Nassau Bay.
