CITY NEWS WELCOME JASON REYNOLDS
IDEAS NEEDED: YOU COULD RE-NAME THE NASSAU BAY NEWSLETTER!
The Nassau Bay Mayor and City Council have selected Jason Reynolds as the new City Manager. The task force, comprised of Mayor Mark Denman, Mayor Pro Tem Sandy Mossman, former Mayor Don Matter and former HR Director of The Johnson Space Center and Nassau Bay resident, Harv Hartman, reviewed over 75 applicants. At a Special Meeting on Sunday, October 4, 2015, Council met and made the final decision to offer the position to Jason Reynolds, Development Operations Manager for the City of Arlington, Texas. Reynolds has accepted the position and is excited about this opportunity to join the City of Nassau Bay. “I am awe struck by the community and like the vision of their leaders. It seems like an excellent place to live and work,” said Reynolds. Reynolds is a retired Army paratrooper with a passion for community service. He holds a certification as a Certified Public Manager. He also has a Master of Urban Planning and a Master of Business Administration and a B.S. in Workforce Leadership. “It was an arduous, but certainly worthwhile, effort for our task force to search for City Manager Chris Reed’s successor,” said Nassau Bay Mayor Mark Denman. “We will never replace Chris but we think we found someone that will continue his great work and progress; and that includes working with the great staff he has assembled. The city is functioning very well, we do not want to see momentum interrupted, employee retention is very important to us. I am confident Jason will jump right in and ensure we stay on the great path Chris and staff have put us on.” Jason Reynolds will officially begin on November 1, 2015 and current City Manager Chris Reed will remain with the City through the end of this year offering his full support during this transition.

Fall, where is it? Good question! This could be one of those years when the gulf coast goes from summer to "Houston winter". This is the time of year that we take time to re-pot plants with good soil. Good soil makes all the difference in how any plant grows whether it is in a pot or in a bed. Our city sells its version of micro-life, approximately $25 for a large bag, which will help enrich the soil so that the plants develop a strong , healthy root system. Use this as you plant any plant whether it's in a pot or bed. It is also time to plant (in a bed or container) "cole" (cold) vegetables which are vegetables that thrive when the temperatures begin to drop. Broccoli, cabbage, brussel sprouts, kale, chard, radishes and beets are all "cole" vegetables. If you don't have room for another bed try something new like wall gardens, raised planters or even pallet gardens.
Volunteer projects include planting, pruning and mulching neighborhood gardens and other areas, as well as picking up debris along the shoreline and peninsula. Volunteers of all ages are welcome. This year’s event will include a family-friendly garden, so bring the kids! Teens and Scouts can earn community service hours by checking in by 8:30 at the Pavilion. Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes and bring your gloves and small garden tools. Other tools will be provided as needed. Please sign up in advance by calling Kathy George at 281-333-2944. Letting us know in advance help us plan for the specific projects and supplies needed. If you can’t commit until the last minute, show up anyway, we will definitely be able to find something for you to do! More information and maps of the focus areas for the this year's Beautification Day can be found online at www.nassaubay.com.

Galveston Bay Foundation Encourages Residents to Cease the Grease When cooking waste like fats, oils, and grease (FOG) go down the drain, sewer pipes get blocked by the Grease Monster. Clogged pipes lead to sewer overflows which threaten public health, our natural environment, and your pocket book due to harmful bacteria. You can help fight the Grease Monster by following these tips at home: • Never pour FOG down the drain, can it and trash it instead. • Recycle used cooking oil when possible and dump food scraps in the trash. Help Galveston Bay Foundation Improve the Cease the Grease Campaign by taking a short survey online at www.nassaubay.com/survey.
