HARVEY RELIEF DISTRIBUTION On Saturday, October 7th, St. Thomas the Apostle Episcopal Church and School in Nassau Bay hosted their annual St. Thomas Family Fun Fest and 5K for the local community. There were children’s games, a silent auction, craft booth, bake sale, book sale, and trash n’ treasure tables for visitors to enjoy. The Holy Smokers, the church’s cooking team, provided smoked brisket, pulled pork, sausage-on-astick, hot dogs, and many sides for a tasty lunch. Approximately $15,000 was raised for Harvey Relief from this event. On Sunday, December 3rd, Fr. Mike Stone gave funds raised to Stephani Hornung for Communities in Schools at McWhirter Elementary. These funds were for children and families affected by Hurricane Harvey. Funds were also distributed to League City Rotary members Ava Sloan and Amy Kilgore to replace families’ refrigerators ruined in the storm. Additionally, funds were sent to Plentitude in Puerto Rico for hurricane relief. St. Thomas will continue to search for ways in which to reach out to local families and organizations in the community. For more information, contact www.sttaec.org or 281-222-2385.
CHRISTMAS SPIRIT DO YOU NEED A BUILDING PERMIT? Nassau Bay was filled with Christmas spirit If you are a home or building owner in Nassau Bay working on or this past holiday season. City staff enjoyed wonderful decor in the council chambers, Elf on the Shelf, holiday baked goods, Secret Santa, door decorating contests, and more!
considering remodeling, constructing, or changing anything on your property, you need to know the City's permit requirements. The City's permitting requirements are based on industry standards and the International Building Codes. A building permit is required to construct, enlarge, alter, repair, improve, remove, convert, or demolish any building or structure within the City. If the owner is hiring a contractor to perform this work, the contractor will typically submit the permit application to the City. Ultimately, the owner is responsible for securing and correctly displaying all required permits before any work begins. So all home and building owners should be aware of the permit requirements and should request a copy of the permit from the contractor. Where do I get the building permit application? Visit the City's website at www.nassaubay.com/buildingpermit. The permit fee is based on the specific job valuation. How long does it take? Once the permit application is submitted to the City, the Building Official will review and approve or request additional information. Depending on the type of permit, it could be issued immediately or can take 5-7 business days. It is important to note that some permits require your HOA approval. Why do I need a permit? Permits help protect property values, improves safety and is required by the State and the City. Please note, the City has a new Building Secretary. For questions about permits in Nassau Bay, please contact Catrina Maxwell at City Hall at 281.336.6297 or by email at catrina.maxwell@nassaubay.com.
