NASSAU BAY GARDEN CLUB
The Nassau Bay Garden Club extends an invitation to any and all to visit the Club's first meeting of the new fiscal year on Tuesday, September 14th, 2021 at 9:30am in the Nassau Bay City Hall Council Chambers (1800 Space Park Drive, Suite #200). Speakers will be Mayor Bob Warters and City Manager Jason Reynolds, who will discuss the State of the City and all its recent changes. A lot has happened in the last year, and there are many plans for Nassau Bay in the coming year. There will be some time before the business meeting for questions and answers. Please bring a neighbor/friend and plan to go somewhere local for lunch after the meeting. During this hot summer, remember to water your plants frequently, preferably early in the day, and spray nuisance bugs sparingly with dilute dish soap and water [2 drops Dawn to 1 quart water] so as not to harm our pollinators. If you have a shady area, put a few slices of orange, mango, and/or pineapple on a plate for them and another bowl for a drink and/or a bath. Be sure to remove all standing water to keep mosquitoes away. Wear sunscreen and enjoy your summer.

OFFICER HENDERSON RECEIVES GENERAL COMMENDATION Officer Perry Henderson was presented a General Commendation Award from the Nassau Bay Police Department by Chief Tim Cromie. On February 13, 2021, Officer Henderson responded to a small dinghy boat adrift in Clear Lake. This was at the beginning of Winter Storm Uri and the temperature on that day was 32 degrees. Officer Henderson was originally unable to reach the boat, but continued his efforts, including attempting to wade into the water to reach the boat. Unable to see anyone in the boat, Officer Henderson called out to the boat and ended up receiving a response from a 66-year-old male who was under a tarp in the boat. The male was wearing only a pair of underwear. Officer Henderson called for assistance and the NBVFD arrived with the safety boat to remove the male. The male was transported by EMS to a local hospital where his body temperature registered at 81 degrees. Due to Officer Henderson’s diligent efforts, he was able to prevent serious injury or illness to the man.
MOSQUITO CONTROL PROGRAM
The City of Nassau Bay Mosquito Control Program provides protection for health, safety and welfare of the community. Mosquito spraying will be conducted on Tuesday and Thursday evenings (weather permitting), beginning at sunset until around midnight. There will be NO spraying in the rain or wind gusts over 10 MPH. Remember, you can help reduce the mosquito population by eliminating standing water and other potential breeding locations on your property. Please contact Public Works at 281-333-2944 for any questions or concerns.
SUMMER HEAT SAFETY TIPS
Summer is the season for working and playing outdoors in Nassau Bay. It’s also the time to emphasize the importance of preventing and treating heat-related illness. The common denominator of heat illness prevention is: Water, Rest, Shade. Getting plenty of all three when outdoors is the best way to beat the heat and stay out of trouble. Follow these following tips to stay safe in the summer heat: • Stay hydrated throughout the day by drinking water steadily; don't wait until you're thirsty. • Avoid caffeine and alcohol which cause us to lose water more rapidly. • Take frequent breaks in the shade or indoors in an air conditioned space. • Wear loose fitting, lightly colored, and lightweight clothes. • Check on friends and neighbors. • Do not exercise outdoors. If you must exercise outdoors, only exercise in the early morning hours, before 8:00am. • Take cool showers or baths to cool down.
