Use Sunscreen (SPF 15 or higher): Put on sunscreen before you go outside even on cloudy days and reapply every two hours or more frequently if you are active and sweating or swimming. Limit Direct Exposure: UV rays are most intense between 10am-4pm. Limit time outdoors during these hours. Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water regardless of your activity level. Don't wait until you're thirsty to drink more fluids. Stay away from beverages that contain caffeine, alcohol, or large quantities of sugar. Check Family and Friends: Keep an eye on family members, friends, and neighbors. Pay close attention and check regularly on young children and those 65 or older. NEVER Leave Children or Pets In A Closed Car: In just a few minutes, temperatures can rise high enough inside the vehicle to hurt or kill your loved ones. Know the Signs & Symptoms of Heat Disorders: Heat Stroke, Heat Exhaustion, Heat Cramps, Sunburn, and Heat Rash are common conditions that you should be able to recognize and know what to do. RECENT RAINS Up to 10 inches of rain were reported on May 13th in areas of Nassau Bay. Thankfully there were no reports of homes flooding in the city. We want to thank our awesome Public Works staff members that worked through the night monitoring the water levels in the streets, barricading unsafe roads, checking all storm water pumps to make sure they are working properly, checking levels at the waste water treatment plant and diverting flow to the old plant as needed, monitoring lake levels and diverting water to the creek, and relocating m o t o r i z e d equipment and shelter animals to higher grounds. Please remember that if you see water on the road, turn around, don’t drown.

STAY INFORMED
GARDEN CLUB
The Nassau Bay Police Department is now participating in RAIDS Online, a new crime mapping tool that connects law enforcement with the community to reduce crime and improve public safety. Crime mapping helps the public get a better idea of the crime activity in their area so they can make more informed decisions about how to stay safe.
The Nassau Bay Garden Club invites residents to join their monthly meetings. All residents are welcome, no need to sign up, just show up to join the fun.
RAIDS Online allows users to search for crime in their area, visualize crime hot-spots, sign up for neighborhood watch reports and view recent crime activity. RAIDS Online goes beyond crime mapping by automatically alerting the public about recent crime activity and by improving communication between the public and law enforcement through anonymous tips. RAIDS Online empowers the public to make better decisions about crime by putting the same technology used by law enforcement to analyze and interpret crime activity into the hands of the public. View the crime map online at www.raidsonline.com or download the free smartphone app available for both iPhone and Android.
