SPRING FORWARD

The Nassau Bay Fire Marshal's Office and the Nassau Bay Volunteer Fire Department want to remind you to check and change the batteries in your smoke detector and carbon monoxide alarms when you reset your clocks one hour forward on Sunday, March 13th. Smoke alarms, even those that are hard-wired, should have their batteries replaced regularly and tested to ensure you have the protection you need. This is a quick and inexpensive thing you can do to keep your family safe. Many fatal fires occur at night while people are sleeping. A working smoke alarm greatly increases your chances of survival during a home fire by giving you the critical time needed to escape. Questions about smoke detectors or carbon monoxide alarms? Contact Nassau Bay Fire Marshal Tony Russo at 281-336-6296 or by email at tony.russo@nassaubay.com.

YOUR $2 FIRE & EMS DONATIONS AT WORK The City of Nassau Bay Utility Department provides residents with the opportunity to make a voluntary $2.00 donation to the Nassau Bay Volunteer Fire Department and Emergency Medical Service with the payment of each water bill. Donations are used by these departments for tools, resources, and capital items to better provide emergency services to our residents. During the past year, the Volunteer Fire Department was able to use this money for two new radios that work with the new digital communication system to replace out-of-date equipment. The Department was also able to purchase an upgraded sonar system for the fire boat. The new sonar system will better assist underwater searches by providing better quality sonar images that show more detail of a larger area as well as several other features that improve overall usability.

STAFF SPOTLIGHT Katie Hausler has been with the City of Nassau Bay for over six years enthusiastically greeting Nassau Bay residents as the Receptionist at City Hall.

She is also the coordinator for all of the City’s utility billing activities. Her cheerful, professional demeanor makes her a fantastic first contact for anyone trying to do business with the City. If you call us with questions or need help with your water account, please make sure to thank Katie for her hard work and dedication.

The above images compare the same underwater location as it is seen on the old sonar (on the left) and the new sonar (on the right). As you can see, the new sonar provides a much clearer image of a larger area around the boat.

Residents interested in donating to the Nassau Bay Volunteer Fire Department and Emergency Medical Service may simply add $2.00 to their payment when paying the “Total Due” amount on their water bill. Your donation may be considered a tax-deductible charitable donation because the City is a qualified entity and the donation is being used for a restricted public purpose. Please contact your tax professional for more information about taxdeductible charitable donations. For more information about the Volunteer Fire Department, please visit www.nassaubayfd.com.
