Testimonial: “It is with pleasure that I recommend Paul and Allzones Roofing Services. We encountered a problem at our residence over the last winter during the large snowfall with an ingress of water in two dormer window areas. We requested quotes from two well known roofing companies and were told we require a completely new roof at an exorbitant sum of money. Thank goodness we had someone refer us to Paul. He identified the problem as being poorly fitted felt and loose tiles which were pushed up by the snowfall & freezing weather. He and his men attended immediately and corrected the situation at a fraction of the cost quoted by the previous two companies It is truly wonderful to meet a tradesman who is not only extremely honest but very proud of the work he performs. I am quite confident that any who employs this company will be very pleased with the final result.” Yours truly, Richard Reuss Independent Business Consultant Forest Row

Rob Moon at speed on the track
Phil Edwards lived in East Grinstead and was married here. Having moved to Uckfield some years ago, he is now the owner of Weald EVT (Electric Vehicle Technology) and the man behind the electric motorbike that set a new speed record in this country. Here we ask him all about it: Is this what you wanted to do growing up? Where did your aspirations to be involved in cuttingedge engineering come from? I’ve always liked engineering and designing. I enjoyed making models when I was younger and knew from an early age that I wanted to be a draughtsman. I did an apprenticeship at The APV Company in Crawley (long-since closed) and have spent all of my working life involved in engineering and manufacturing companies. How did you phase out of your day-job and into developing Electric-motorbikes with Weald EVT? In 2005 I became a self-employed manufacturing consultant, helping small manufacturers to improve their quality and processes. Alongside that I enjoyed restoring motorbikes as a hobby, and I had a project waiting in the garage late in 2009. Whilst browsing the internet I found out about electric motorcycles and, because I’m interested in new technology, wondered if I could convert this motorbike to electric-power. So I read up on how they work and decided to have a go!
I was fortunate that there’s a chap in Peacehaven who is something of an expert so I visited him a few times for advice. Being an engineer I like to have a target to aim for and to know how well the project turns out. After a bit more trawling the internet I discovered that an “Alternative Energy Racing” event took place every summer at Santa Pod, the home of UK drag racing. There was my target – I would challenge the best time that had been recorded up to that point (2010). Tell us about the record-breaking goal? Having set the challenge I dug out my old books and started calculating what it would take to build a bike that was going to be faster than the current record-holder. This was a bike that had been built by Kingston University, and it had set a time of 14.99

the bike being built
Rob getting a good getaway from the start line at Santa Pod racetrack (Milton Keynes UK). 14th May 2011
It took almost a year to get the bike finished and running, and then we spent spring of 2011 testing it on a track in Sussex. Unfortunately our track was not long enough to try a full ¼ mile run, which is what the record attempt would be on, so we had to do the best we could and hope that it would be quick enough on the day! As it turned out it was good enough as we smashed the record on our first run, and during the day got even better, finally setting a new time of 14.12 seconds. In terms of being a ‘green’ machine, is helping the environment a big factor for the business? I’m mostly excited by the clever technology. Being green is an issue, but it’s not the primary one. We certainly do need to be careful with how much fossil fuel is available and consider alternate methods. It’s early days for electric vehicles so, no, they don’t necessarily match up to the performance or practicality for everyone, but they are perfectly useable for the majority of trips. The technology is expensive at the moment too, so I can understand people thinking “why should I pay a lot more for something that doesn’t do quite as much” but I’m sure the early pioneers of motoring faced the same issues.
What awards have you received so far? We were delighted to receive an Innovation Voucher from the SEEDA (the previous South East England Development Agency) which allowed us to have some development work done by Brighton University. Even more exciting was winning the Gold Award for Engineering at the Green Apple Environmental Awards. We were presented with this at a reception at The House of Commons in November 2011. What local support have you had? We have enjoyed a lot of support from our Wealden MP, Charles Hendry, and one of our earliest supporters was Uckfield-based TR Fastenings who have been very good to us. Uckfield FM have kindly featured the bike a few times too. Phil Edwards (standing) and rob Moon (our rider) making notes as we test the bike in Sussex
I’ve developed a few more electric motorcycles and am now working on an electric vehicle community car club which is very exciting and has huge potential for future cities. I’ll tell you more about that another time…

The scandal of the missing Pie In search of the lost Top Notch Quality Pie the determined couple bound the train to the quaint village of Forest Row. “I do not doubt, my famished friend, that we may well encounter that deep filled butter pastry encased Pie for which we have long searched” the detective comforted his august companion with no fear of conjecture. On their arrival in that village they hastened to the Brambletye Hotel and enquired within on the availability of “Pie”. A most charming Lady led them to a table in the Black Peter Restaurant. Tel: 01342

Offering a welcoming ale, she then spoke most candidly to that which they alluded. It appeared that the chef (himself a lover of pie) had gathered fresh local meats & produce and taken it upon himself to rectify this lack of “Proper Pie”. Menus were handed to the pair. Skimming through the delights on offer until their glances fell on the selection of pies. Traditional Fish, Steak & Guinness, Cottage Pie and Pie of the week! The silent despair, once so obvious, was now just a distant memory. “My dear friend,” our rapturous sleuth declared, “I doubt that even our much respected cook herself could better this!” Content in the knowledge that he had found his perfect pie, yet fearful that common knowledge would result in a pie stampede, our sated Sire considered his dilemma...

Stir in the curry paste and cook for a few seconds. 2. Add the carrots, tomatoes, cauliflower or broccoli, chickpeas, tofu and stock. Simmer, partially covered, for 25-30 minutes, adding a little extra stock or water if the curry looks like it is getting too dry. At the same time, cook the brown rice in gently boiling water for 25-30 minutes, or until tender. 3. Add the peas to the curry and heat for a few moments. Season with pepper, if needed. Drain the rice thoroughly and serve with the curry. Tip 1: If you are using white rice instead of brown rice, remember it will only take 12 minutes to cook. Tip 2: Vary the vegetables according to your preferences. Another time, try adding peppers, mushrooms or courgettes. This recipe has been taken from the Change4Life website

Skincare tips & Spring Clean your Makeup by Emma Wilkinson, your local beauty expert.
As I was preparing this article, spring unfortunately seems to have gone, as the bitter cold is back. So I thought I had better talk about how important it is to keep skin moisturised in this cold weather. Your skin suffers as it gets dehydrated easily from the cold weather outside, and the central heating inside, so use a good moisturiser after your facial cleansing routine, and a more enriched cream at night as your skin recovers whilst you sleep. Don’t forget other areas that need regular moisturising, hands: keep a small hand cream in every bag for regular use. Lips: use lip balm regularly and keep it with you. Try not to have your bath too hot as this dries the skin, and use body
lotion liberally afterwards, don’t forget elbows and feet. But I can talk to you about spring cleaning your make-up bag, as this is important to carry out all year. Throw away any old make up you don’t use to clear room for new additions – particularly be ruthless with mascaras, as they tend to go out of date after 6 months and be aware of the useby symbol on all your products, as it’s not hygienic to use them when they’re very old (particularly your eye products). And a tip for your nails – always use a base coat before painting, especially if using bright or dark colours, as they can stain the nails making them look discoloured.
(Emma is a qualified and experienced beauty therapist offering mobile treatments in and around the East Grinstead area, see her ad on the right)
Hi my Name is Amanda and 10 years ago I was in a serious car accident that gave me a life-changing brain injury. For many years I lost my way until recently I decided to dedicate my life to fundraising. I am a volunteer at the Woodhouse Center Oxted where elderly and disabled meet every week to make poppies for Remembrance Day to help raise money. I find it very difficult to meet new people but last year I set myself a challenge: I wanted to raise more money to help others so I took part in the local fate and had my own stall sellling cakes and hand made jewelry.
www.littleprincesses.org.uk so they can make a wig or two for a child or teenager who has lost their hair to cancer. The money I raise through sponsors and donations I will be giving to two charities: www.thesilverlining.org.uk who help people with Brain Injury rebuild their lives by helping others
Although it was very difficult for me I finally found a purpose.
www.thewoodhousecentre.co.nr which is a small center in Oxted where both Disabled and Elderly meet all year round and make poppies for Remembrance day to raise money.
On Friday 28th June 2013 I will be having all my hair cut off outside Sainsburys in East Grinstead at 1pm, there will be lots hair and it’s very thick. It will be sent off to :
All these charities are very close to my heart, so whatever change you can spare me, these 3 charities and my soon to be bald head would be very thankful.

Spring Clean your Body by Julie Nottingham, your local fitness expert.
With the warmer weather approaching, now is the perfect time to spring clean your lifestyle and make it more healthy. It only needs small steps to your lifestyle to change your body in a big way, and you do not need an expensive gym membership when there is a wealth of opportunity on that wonderful outdoors out there – use it to your advantage, it costs nothing! So, look for times when you can get out and about as much as possible.....can you walk or cycle to work, even if it isn’t every day. Check local information sites, e.g. your local council, for information on cycle ways, bridle paths, local walks, maps and other schemes to get you out and about. Check out your local walking clubs.
Getting outside will help you shape up, burn calories, release stress, stay younger, and get those endorphins going for a wonderful feel-good factor. Combine this with spring cleaning your diet, and you’ll feel and look great. Think about what you eat, is it going to make you look or feel the way you want, or miserable and run down. The saying “you are what you eat” is so true, so try to ditch all processed, fatty, sugary foods. Eat a “clean” diet with plenty of fruit and vegetables, lean protein, wholegrain carbohydrates, drink plenty of water, and watch your portion size. Don’t buy junk food, if it’s not in your cupboard and you get a craving, there’s no harm done!
This is certainly not an all-inclusive list, but you get the picture… (Julie has been teaching popular fitness classes locally since 1995, see her ad on the right or check out her website www. julienottinghamfitness.co.uk)

Grinning for
Grinstock
Grinstock comedy club is the brain child of Genetic Promotions UK, a company founded by Oliver Tully in Hong Kong 20 years ago. Oliver was born and raised in Hong Kong but his father was a Grinsteadian. Throughout his childhood he regularly came back to visit family, finally settling here a few years ago. At that time Oliver saw a lack of events in the area and with comedy on the rise he decided to use his contacts and start a comedy club launching the event with 500 flyers and getting a sold out night in return! With this resounding success he decided to make this dedicated monthly event. That was 4 years ago and comedy has reigned supreme in this town with packed nights since! Grinstock Comedy Club, works with the BBC comedy bookers to obtain the best stand up comedians in the UK, 4 years of great monthly shows and packed out nights, is an accolade to it’s success. We asked Oliver what has been your personal high-light for the comedy club so far? ‘I would say being nominated and in the running for Comedy club of the UK and Comedy Club of the South by DAVE TV and the line-up of great comedians we always get on the bill from Holly Walsh (8 Out of 10 Cats) Angelos (Shooting Stars) Nick Helm (Russell Howard’s Good News) Phil Kay
(Phil Kay Presents BBC) plus this months headliner who we have had before Steve Hall (Russell Howards Good News/ Russell Howard’s Tour Support 2012)!’ Where does he sets his sights for this year? ’We aim to have a comedy tent at our yearly Maize Fest (music and more festival) that we started last year at Tulleys Farm. We also are looking into touring comedy in the USA and South East Asia: Hong Kong, China, Thailand, etc. and Singapore’ that’s our hope with this’. ‘Grinstock’ is only shooting for the Stars then… nothing too drastic!

Clothes, Health & Beauty Family Chiropractic Sussex was established 5 years ago by Dr. Teresa White. Since then it has expanded to 3 full time Chiropractors. We ask Dr. White what Chiropractic is and find out what it has to do with Usain Bolt‌ What is Chiropractic? Chiropractic is a health care discipline which emphasizes the inherent power of the body Dr. Teresa White to heal itself. It is based on the scientific fact that the nervous system controls the function of virtually every tissue, organ and system of the body. Do patients need to check with their Doctors before treatment?
Tell us about some of the successes at Family Chiropractic Sussex Here’s a recent success from a Tree Surgeon: “In December I noticed my arm was very painful from the shoulder downward, I became unable to sleep. I didn’t want to take painkillers and a friend told me of Family Chiropractic Sussex. After just six weeks I was back at work with my arm a lot stronger than I thought possible! Finally tell us about USAIN BOLT?
Increasingly, GPs are recognising chiropractic as an effective complementary treatment, particularly for back pain. Family Chiropractic Sussex regularly receives referrals from GPs. Chiropractic is a primary health-care profession, so there’s no need for referral though you can always check if you feel it necessary.
Usain Bolt (the fastest man on earth!) regularly utilizes chiropractic care to improve his performance. Chiropractor Dr. Michael Douglas has been helping the Jamaican Olympic Team since 1996. `
If you or your family have Back/Neck/Joint discomfort, posture problems, headaches, etc. and you think Chiropractic treatment could be of benefit and would like more information call: 01342 315928 or visit www.familychiropracticsussex.co.uk

mums the Word... Spring Pots The kids can create a lovely new feature for your patio and have a great time in the processs. Take some small terracota pots or even plastic ones and some acrylic paints, any kind of design can be painted on the pots - animals, star wars, etc.. Plant some hardy flowers following seed instructions (cornflowers are always a winner).
Bluebell Railway With the line now reconnected to East Grinstead families can have a fabulous day out, starting from Sheffield Park to East Grinstead Station and enjoying the beauty of the scenic Bluebells along the way and then going up to London to enjoy the bright lights for the day.

Can’t get kids away from the screens?
Screens v. Real-life
Idea: a friend of mine makes their kids earn ‘screen time’ by giving them ticks for chores, homework/ reading completed, etc. When they have enough ticks they can go on a screen of their choice for a period of time. So screentime isn’t just a given, it’s earned... food for thought.

Try to freeze more food and then defrost as and when it’s needed rather than letting things go off, an extra loaf of bread for instance, too much milk, veg, etc.... Do you have leftovers that shouldn’t be thrown away but which you don’t want to eat straight away? then just freeze for use later (be sure not to re-freeze any food though). If you have bread that is slightly stale (but not moudy) then place in the oven for a little while to fully dry out and then put through the blender, the crumbs can be used as bread crumbs for use in cooking later.

When it comes to Lifestyle, a change really is as good as a holiday! Two years ago Lindsay and I were living to work. We both held down good jobs but we never saw each other. Ring any bells? One morning I woke up and decided to make the change. I resigned from my job that morning. Incredibly, baby and preschool swimming was the career answer for our family. I’d swum with our daughter Gracie from when she was just 10 weeks old and found it an incredible experience. She loved the water and I was amazed at the freedom and independence it gave her – not to mention how it helped to develop her physically. Her co-ordination, reflexes and physical strength all improved significantly. It was Lindsay who first saw the potential in us starting a baby swimming business – A family business with a real purpose that perfectly fitted our aims and values. It was the quality and cohesion of the lessons that sold us on Puddle Ducks. The experience and passion of the teaching staff and the breadth of support available to us meant there was only ever going to be
one set of classes we were going to offer. So, we are doing what we love here in East Grinstead – why not join us for a free trial and discover why Puddle Ducks has made our working lives feel like a holiday. Happy Swimming! Clive Relf,

Hartfield, birthplace of A.A. Milne’s Winnie the Pooh, will host the second STORYFEST
On Saturday 18th & Sunday 19th May Hartfield will be transformed into a children’s book festival once more. Last year over 2,000 visitors joined in the festivities to help make the first ever Storyfest a resounding success. The aim of the festival is to develop children’s literacy and foster a love of books in all children from avid bookworms to reluctant readers and those with special educational needs. Once again at Storyfest there will be more than 20 live, fun events and workshops, run by well known children’s authors and illustrators, for children and their families to enjoy. This year’s amazing line-up of award-winning authors and illustrators include ‘Winnie The Witch’ illustrator Korky Paul, Simon Bartram author of ‘Bob, Man on the Moon’, ‘Operation Eiffel Tower’ author Elen Caldecott, and Emma Dodd, author of ‘Cinderelephant’, who will be bringing along an enormous pink slipper for all to try! Back by popular demand, popular authors Ali Sparkes, Guy Bass and CITV’s ‘Fleabag Monkeyface’ creators Knife & Packer with all-new events to make the Big Top rock! New for 2013! The British Film Institute will be running 2 family workshops screening both Black & White silent film shorts with musical accompaniment, and the classic children’s film ‘Bugsy Malone’. These workshops encourage children and their families to work together to share stories visually and orally to create their own family film. For older children, Christopher Lloyd blows open the world of science with his new Science Wall Book, in
collaboration with the Science Museum. Anne-Marie Conway’s popular book ‘Butterfly Summer’ tells of secrets and friendships, come and create your own butterfly myth at Anne-Marie’s interactive event. Here at Storyfest HQ, we are embracing our darkside! Why not make a date with our demon duo, ‘Diary of a Wimpy Vampire’s’ author Tim Collins and David Gatward who will be bringing us ‘Doom Rider’? A host of exciting workshops for budding artists and storytellers include Graphic Novel, Pop-up Book, Collage and Audiobook. Performance poets Bang Said The Gun will be raising the roof with their fast moving stand-up poetry. Children are encouraged to bring their own poems along to perform on stage and have the chance to win one of Bang Said The Gun’s coveted trophies. In addition to the author and illustrator events and workshops there is lots more festival fun at Storyfest, creating a wonderful, family-festival atmosphere: • The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party • Tales from the Croft - Storytelling Tents • Festival Bookshop • Pop-up Library • Dressing Up and Craft Tents • Delicious Festival Food Storyfest was created by four parents who are passionate about encouraging children to read and enjoy stories in all forms. It is run completely by volunteers. Tickets are available online www.storyfest. co.uk. For more information please contact: emma@storyfest.co.uk or call 01892 770536

“When I started my plastering business at the beginning of 2010 I decided to advertise in ‘East Grinstead living’ as the cost was reasonable and it seemed like a good publication. Little did I know just how much of a good idea that was!! Over the following 6 months I would say that around 70% of my leads came from that one 1/4 page advert and when I heard that there was going to be another publication (Ashdown Forest Living) by the same people going out to another area, it was a no brainer to advertise in that one too!” Matt Merrell, MRM Plastering and Building

The Perfect Cycle Route? The town’s Tourist Officer Simon Kerr says:
East Grinstead has access to the wonderful routes of both Worth Way and Forest Way and this Spring is a brilliant time to discover (or re-discover) the joys of taking a bike ride along these routes.
“I’m really glad that there is a project going on to both enhance and promote this part of the Avenue Verte that passes through us here in East Grinstead. Most of us know the Worth Way and the Forest Way, but have no idea that as part of the National Cycle Route 21 that forms a section of this long distance trail linking London to Paris. Last summer we welcomed several cyclists stopping here along the route, many of them were coming through on their way to see the Olympic Games. But you don’t have to do the whole 250 miles, a gentle meander on my favourite part of the trail is downhill from East Grinstead and then from Forest Row follow the track as it runs alongside the River Medway all the way to Groombridge. The scenery is Rowfant stunning and I have to admit that I have been known to stop Station The station off at a friendly hostelry now and then to take on board some included a passing loop, liquid refreshment!” level crossing
Both of these routes are now part of AVENUE VERTE, an exciting cycling route mapped out to connect London to Paris and that currently being enhanced locally. And as East Grinstead is a converging point for many a ‘line’ (Greenwich Merdian being one, the boundaries of 4 county boundaries, etc.) this seems entirely appropriate!

Gardening in April Article by Michael Dongray,
Imberhorne Lane Nursery Proprietor
Bulbs Split clumps of snowdrops by digging them up, gently pulling them apart into bunches of 3 or more bulbs and replanting in dug over soil with some bonemeal incorporated into it. Make sure you work quickly so the bulbs don’t have a chance to dry out and water in if the soil is dry. Plant hardier summer bulbs and unsprouted dahlia tubers.
or moss killer. Apply a spring fertilizer to help green up your lawn after the winter. Mow the grass as necessary but don’t put the clippings on the compost after applying weed killer. If you used moss killer after a couple of weeks rake out the dead moss and any other debris on the lawn.
Roses
Fruit
Finish pruning your roses and start spraying them with fungicide to ward against black spot, rust and mildew. Repeat every fortnight until the autumn.
The fruit garden is one area in which there is not a lot to do in April.
Shrubs and Flowers
Plant strawberry plants in planters or hanging baskets for a pretty and delicious crop this summer. Protect fruit trees and gooseberries with netting.
Protect new spring shoots from frosts and slugs. After a wet spell mulch around camellias, rhododendrons and azaleas to help conserve moisture to ensure good flowering next year.
Check your rhubarb; harvest it if it has grown. The blossom of peach, nectarine and apricot trees should be protected from frost with a cover of fleece. Remove it in the daytime to allow insects to pollinate. Fans, cordons and espalier fruit trees should now be pruned. Plum and cherry trees can be pruned now the threat of getting silver leaf disease has gone.
Greenhouse If you have a frost-free greenhouse, get ahead with the summer crops – sweet peppers, tomatoes, aubergines and salads can be planted inside - If it remains cold, check the temperature requirements on the seed packet and wait if necessary. On warm days open the vents and doors of your greenhouse and damp down the floor.
Lawns April is the best month to apply weed killer
Conifers can safely be pruned this month. Remove all dead and diseased wood. However do not prune back into the bare wood part of the plant. Broadleaf and needle leaf evergreens benefit most from lightly spreading a high nitrogen fertilizer around their bases. Tie in new shoots on clematis, jasmine and climbing and rambling roses. Rose shoots should be kept as level as possible to promote growth of side shoots. Sow sweet pea seeds outside or plant out those you have grown over winter. Put the climbing structure, either a wigwam of frame with netting, in place. Put two seeds or plants to each cane. If you have a light soil you can start making sowings of hardy annuals. Sow into straight seed drills as this makes it easier to take out any weeds that will grow. Once the flowers are in bloom you will not be able to see the rows.

Garden / Outdoors
Put in supports for perennials to grow through before they become too large. Use frames sold for this purpose and once the plants mature they will be hidden by the foliage. Sprinkle general purpose fertilizers on beds and borders and erect supports for herbaceous plants such as peonies, delphiniums and oriental poppies that would otherwise flop. Carry on lifting and dividing overgrown clumps of perennials and split polyanthus plants once they have finished flowering. Sow hardy annuals such as nasturtium and calendula in drifts. Sow sweet peas outdoors (soak the seeds overnight to improve germination) and plant out those raised under cover. The more tender plants that had their stems left on to protect the crowns such as fuchsias and penstemons can now be pruned taking care not to cut out any new growth. Feed your pots and containers and brighten them up
with cheery primroses, violas, pots of spring bulbs and spring heathers. Packing them densely in single colours makes for a stunning display. If the weather really does turn dry, remember pots and containers will need watering, especially if they are near a wall and in a sheltered position. Take care not to overwater.
Vegetables Many vegetable crops can be sown as seed this month – check the instructions on the packet. Broad beans, carrots, lettuces, spinach, salad leaves, leeks, radish, Cabbage, Brussel Sprouts, Beetroot, Calabrese, Celery, Lettuce and Onions are just a few ideas. Sweet corn can be sown in pots or cells for planting out late May. Second early potatoes can be planted at the start of the month and maincrop ones at the end of the month. Plant shallots, garlic and onion sets as well as asparagus crowns in friable well-drained soil.

Spencer Percival
Local History Notes
by Dorothy Hatswell
Spencer Percival, who has the unenviable distinction of being the only British Prime Minister to be assassinated, has a tenuous link to East Grinstead. The seventh son of John Percival, the second Earl Egremont and his second wife, Spencer was born on November 1st 1762. He was educated at Harrow and Trinity College Cambridge, where he read law. After coming down from university he went to Lincolns Inn (a society of Barristers) to begin his career. He and his older brother, Charles, lodged with a Thomas Spencer Wilson (a family connection); the two brothers fell in love with two of the Wilson sisters. Charles was approved by Mr Wilson and he married his sister, but Spencer, as a younger brother without money, land or title, did not have permission to marry Isabella. They had to wait three years until she became twenty one and Spencer had furthered his career. It was, however, still not enough for Isabella’s father and so they eloped to East Grinstead and were married by special licence in St Swithuns Church. We have not been able to discover why East Grinstead was chosen. There does not seem to have been a family connection locally. Perhaps it was just the first large town on the stage coach route out of London. Mr. Wilson seems to have been a poor judge of character. Not only did Spencer and Isabella have a happy marriage, which produced thirteen children, twelve of whom survived, but Spencer went on to become a very successful
King’s Council, earning in 1796, £1000 a year. He volunteered to join the Light Horse Regiment in 1794 when the threat of a French invasion was being taken seriously. He had been brought to the attention of William Pitt the Younger and was persuaded to stand for Parliament. He took his seat at Westminster in 1796 and

spoke at many debates. He was very much against the proposed Assessed Taxes Bill which sought to raise money to finance a possible war against France. The taxes suggested were on houses, windows, male servants, horses and carriages among others. When William Pitt resigned in

1801, Spencer Percival continued as Attorney General under Pitt’s successor, Henry Addington. This is proof of his ability, as most incoming Prime Ministers replace the incumbents of governmental posts with their own men. Pitt returned for a second term as Prime Minister in 1804 and it was during this period that Percival campaigned for improvements in the conditions under which convicts were transported to Australia. When Pitt died in 1806, Percival was among the pall bearers. He also contributed £1000 towards paying off the enormous debts that Pitt left behind. Percival acted for Princess Caroline, the estranged wife of the Prince of Wales, later George IV, when she was accused by him of having an illegitimate child. His polical career was also advancing. In 1807 he became the youngest Chancellor of the Exchequer and two years later, Prime Minister. He supported William Wilberforce in his campaign to abolish slavery. He dealt with the Golden Jubilee of George III when it was becoming increasingly obvious that his illness was recurring, but it was not until 1810, the year after Percival’s death that the Regency Bill was passed. May 11th, 1809 saw Spencer Percival walking through the lobby of the House of Commons on his way to his office. A man stepped out in front of him and shot him in the chest at close range. Percival fell to the floor and gasped a few words. He still had a
faint pulse. He was carried into the speaker’s drawing room and laid on a settee, but by the time a doctor had been found, he was pronounced dead. His body was then taken to 10 Downing Street. The assailant made no attempt to escape. John Bellingham, a merchant believed he had been wrongly imprisoned in Russia and was demanding compensation from the government. This had been refused and he blamed the government and in particular, the prime minister, for this. Bellingham was quickly brought to trial. He was convicted of murdering Spencer Percival and hanged only a week later, on May 18th. Percival left a widow, twelve children between three and twenty years old and the sum of £106 5s 1d in the bank. Parliament voted £50,000 for his children and annuities for his wife and eldest son. Percival was buried in the Egremont vault at St Lukes, Charlton after a private funeral. After his death several poems were written about him, mostly anonymously, as was the following tribute; Such was his private, such his public life, That all differed in polemic strife Or varied in opinion with his plan. Agreed with one accord to love the man. Not a bad epitaph.

What if you could GET RID of BACK PAIN, WHIPLASH, NECK PAIN, MIGRAINES, DIZZINESS, TMJ etc…?
“Nothing I have experienced nor performed has given the benefits and results that this one time treatment has. The experience to date with the AtlasPROfilax® treatment is that my atlas has maintained proper alignment and function. I have GREAT! The chronic pain at the base of my skull is gone. I am more balanced and empowered in my life” Dr. Robert A Pope, Chiropractic Physician
AtlasPROfilax®
“In no more than 25 minutes, nearly all my tensions in my back went. The feeling of relaxation was intense. Now I can watch TV in my bed without any pain in my nect.” R.B. West Sussex
Did you know that the Atlas bone is misaligned in most humans?
“I feel like an owl and can now see virtually 360 degrees…” M.H. Forest Row
NEW REVOLUTIONARY TREATMENT
Do you suffer with recurring back pain, migraines and headaches, stiff neck, frozen shoulders, pain in the hips or knees, repetitive strain injury, trapped nerves, difference in legs length, sinuses problems, TMJ (misaligned jaw), dizziness, whiplash? A strategic and non-chiropractic massage is applied to the short musculature of the neck. In only one application, safely and permanently, the Atlas bone returns to its correct position. Old patterns clear and the entire system begins to function to its fullest potential.
“After his adjustment he looked alive, now walking taller, upright and straight” C.H. East Grinstead “Vertigo has disappeared… my hearing has drastically improved…I can now move my heard normally… I used to zigzag and struggled walking straight. I now have a perfect balance and I can walk straight” P.C, East Grinstead “I’ve had no back pain or migraine, this is phenomenal” C.H., 41yrs Old “I have had whiplash, lot of pain in my neck (loud ‘cracking’ noise) plus that I always had problem pain in my left wrist and left elbow… Today, I have no pain in the neck, no pain in my wrist and in my elbow anymore…” M. H. Denmark
