Concept This concept that I came up with was to design the products in keeping with the style of Ella’s Kitchen, as I thought the brand had a well established style to it. With working within the brand style everything will look consistent, but I wanted to focus on the health aspect - the fact that Ellas Kitchen only use 100% natural ingredients and oraganic products. In order to achieve this i prosposed to develop a set of characters which are taken from the ingredients of the products these will run throughout the publication and web application to both make it more fun and enjoyable to read, but also promote the key aspects of the brand - 100% natural ingredients and organic products. The colour scheme would also be taken from the colour of the ingredients, to highlight the ingredients and bring them to the forefront of the the design.

The Characters I developed characters which were taken from the ingredients of the products to run throughout the publication and web application. These made it more fun and enjoyable to read, but to also promote the aspect that the brand uses 100% natural ingredients and also organic products. The colour scheme throughout all products are taken from the colour of the ingredients, to bring the ingredients into the important information and bring it to life, these colours were used in the characters and also throughout the publication. These design decisions were to keep everything working with the existing brand aesthetics and build upon the style that the brand is already designed like.

About the Publication The publication was the area that I worked on. This was to inform about the brand of Ella’s Kitchen, this is broken down into 3 key areas; the story of Ella’s kitchen, the good stuff we do and the product range. These three areas hold all the information that is needed to inform the internal audience about Ella’s Kitchen. Breaking down the brand into these three key areas meant we could focus each section of publication and only use relevant information for that, it has reduced the amount of content and made it short and clean, getting right to the point about the brand - this makes it shorter and easier for the user to read. The same illustrative style has been used throughout the publication; using bright colours and the illustrated characters to both bring the publication to life and more interesting and to keep everything running in line with Ellas Kitchen.

Format of the Publication The A5 format was chosen for the format because it is a comfortable size to hold and read. The size of the publication also lends well to being posted, so all clients around the world will be able to receive the publication. The binding of the publication is the interesting part, this involves no glue or stitching, so it easy for the brand to mass produce, the front cover and middle publications acts as a locking device to hold the main publication together. This makes the publication more interactive and fun to read through also keeping in with the theme of the brand.

Illustration Ilustration and image making was one of the areas of design in which I had said from the start that I would like to use and focus on in this partnership, when we chose this brief it was apparant that it would need this kind of illustration to work with the existing brand. As I had said I wanted to look at this sort of design and improve on my illustration skills, I was given this task throughout the project to work on all the illustrations needed for both the publication and the web element. When I came up with the concept I thought about the illustration area and made that part of the concept, mainly to push myself into improving my illustrations to make them good enough to be the main focus of the concept. The characters were the main part of the illustration side of this project, but other illustrations needed to be designed for using throughout the publication and web application.
