Fedrigoni - The Colours of the Year In essence the Fedrigoni, Colours of the Year desk calendar is to promote the Woodstock Paper range. The calendar works on the idea of representing each month of the year with a colour, this is then matched to a stock within the Woodstock range. The finished outcome of this showcases the year in colour and also the papers available within the Woodstock range. By using the stock as the main colour of the calendar is minimises the use of coloured ink thoughout the calendar. Also the stock are vibrant, bold colours, which will brighten up any desk across the country. With the Fedrigoni branding, stock names and information and contact details all present throughout the calendar, it will inform the user of all the papers available and show how they can be used in a creative but very functional way.

The Calendar The design of the calendar is kept fairly simple as this didnt need to be over complicated, also the papers needed to stand out the most. The calendar is a daily calendar, this was decided so that the rainbow effect created by the stocks used would be stronger and stand out more, creating a bigger impact on view. Along with it being a daily calendar, it also displays the information of each stock on the reverse of each day - this can be stuck up on the users wall as a stock swatch, and also could double up as a note taker. The size and format has been carefully thought through so that the 2015 desk calendar can fit on any sized desk, but also so that it can be carried or posted easily. The overall size of the calendar is A6 and each peice of the calendar is perforated along the bottom in order to rip away the days. The simple design of the daily calendar leaves alot of space within each daily peice, meaning the user can write things that are happening on that day within the calendar. With a minimal but bold design each day of the calendar stands out and will clearly inform the user which day it is wherever it is placed on their desk. The bold and vibrant colours of the calendar will brighten up the users desk and create a nicer place for them to work in.

How the Calendar works The Fedrigoni calendar has been designed as a daily calendar, in order for this to work efficiently for the user, each day needs to be able to be detached from the calendar block. To achieve this each piece of stock has been perforated along the bottom, this means that the user can simple rip off each day as it goes along and reveal the next. If the user likes the look of the stock of a particular month, when they rip off one of the days, this has all the information about that particular stock printed on the back, when flipped over this turns into a stock swatch - the top half has nothing printed on so displays the stock the bottom half has the stock details displayed. The idea of having the calendar designed like this creates an interactivity within the calendar and brings the user into the design of the calendar, by having to rip off each of the days, they are interacting with the stock and getting to touch and feel the qualities of the paper range. This is the best way to showcase the stock and its properties.

The Note Taker Not only is this product a calendar and a showcase of the paper range, it can also double up as a note taker. Some desks within the workplace are quite small , being able to make use of the wall space around it is a good way to create a better place to work in. As the calendar is designed to A6 format, this is a good size to write down short notes or reminders for the user. Using the the reverse side of each day within the calendar as a post it note creates a second function for the calendar. These post it notes will be different to all others, as they are beautiful, bold colours. This really is more than just a calendar.

Packaging the Calendar With a focus to showcase the Woodstock paper range and the rainbow effect from the calendar, this packaging of the product needed to be something that didnt hinder or hide this element. This range of colour seen down the side of the packaging draws your eye straight to the product, as the bold colours catch your eye. The packaging has a simple design, with the product name displayed on the front and Fedrigoni contact details on the back. On the top of the packaging ‘2015’ has been die cut out of the packaging. This is to represent the idea that the colours of the calendar make up the year of 2015. The packaging harnesses the idea behind the calendar and shows the true meaning of what the purpose of this product is - the ability to showcase the Woodstock paper range and how it can be used in a creative but functional product.
