Have an early lunch on board our boat before returning to Hanoi to catch a short flight to magnificent Hue. Explore this former imperial capital on a visit to the imposing citadel, wandering its lavish palaces and elegant gardens, and venture into the surrounding countryside to see the impressive tombs of Vietnam’s emperors.

DAY 1 I HANOI, VIETNAM Arrive at any time. Arrival transfer is included. DAYS 2–3 I MAI CHÂU Travel to the lush Mai Châu valley and enjoy a countryside walk through rice paddies and picturesque villages. Opt to explore the area by bike, go on a kayaking excursion, or take a cooking class. DAYS 4–5 I HANOI/HA LONG BAY Return to Hanoi to explore Hoa Lo prison, known by American POWs as the Hanoi Hilton. Visit Ho Chi Minh’s mausoleum, and take a cyclo tour of the bustling old quarter. The next day, enjoy breakfast at Hoa Sua, a nonprofit training restaurant for underprivileged Hanoi youth. Afterward, transfer to Ha Long Bay and spend the night on a traditional junk boat, surrounded by thousands of sculpted limestone islands rising from the calm turquoise waters. Cruise

Learn how to fashion your own lantern the traditional way, and leave with a beautiful souvenir. Visit a local market, indulge in a tasting of different kinds of noodles and other mouthwatering street food, and take a cooking class at the G Adventures– supported culinary training school, Oodles of Noodles. Your last day in Hoi An is free for optional activities.

Fly to Ho Chi Minh City—Vietnam’s most populous city—still commonly referred to as Saigon. Opt to explore this buzzing metropolis on a cyclo tour, stopping at the colorful, chaotic markets. Descend into the fascinating Cu Chi Tunnels, famed for the vital part they played during the Vietnam War. On your final day, depart at any time.
