FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR Welcome to Winter Party Festival, an event that combines community, celebration and a great cause! We are deeply honored to have you join us for our 26th year of this incredible event. The Festival has touched countless lives and made a huge difference for the South Florida community and across the nation. Thank you for being here! We are thrilled to greet our guests With Open Arms. For me, this theme represents the radical welcome with which we strive to welcome people at all of the events produced by the National LGBTQ Task Force. Winter Party Festival is a place where everyone can #beyou. Please share what Open Arms means to you! #OPENARMSATWPF It’s our third year with the tagline: Live Free. Play Hard. Give Back. This year, the Task Force and the greater LGBTQ community worked hard to ensure we can all LIVE FREE. We helped to protect transgender rights in Massachusetts and expanded voting rights here in Florida. The community is still facing the most anti-LGBTQ administration in recent memory, and you are doing amazing work to hold the line and progress us towards freedom, justice and equality! I hope you can enjoy your time together and PLAY HARD. Celebration creates resiliency. Funds raised at the Winter Party Festival and its sister event, the National LGBTQ Task Force Gala - Miami, support this great work, and we also GIVE BACK to LGBTQ organizations serving the South Florida community. Since 2005, the Task Force has given almost $3 million back to the South Florida community. Your support of

Winter Party has helped to fund more than 70 organizations doing work in LGBTQ advocacy, youth services, homeless initiatives, the arts and much, much more. From the moment Winter Party Festival found its home with the Task Force, my dear friend Russell Roybal was one of its biggest champions. Russell was on staff with the Task Force for twelve years and has been involved with our organization for over 23 years. I can’t wait to celebrate him at our VIP Cocktail Reception on March 1! Our fabulous Festival Chair Rene Wolfensberger and Vice Chair Sergio Orlando have put in innumerable hours to create the most amazing Winter Party to date. They have donated their time and leadership and I am truly grateful. I also give thanks to all the generous individuals and companies who have made financial and in-kind contributions to this spectacular event and to all the committee members and volunteers who help us create magic. We are only able to do our work due to your incredible support. Please help me extend Open Arms to the entire Winter Party Festival community this year. See you on the dance floor!

Rea Carey Executive Director

LETTER FROM OUR FESTIVAL CHAIR Welcome to Winter Party Festival 2019!

unforgettable.

Hug, hold hands, kiss each other, wear whatever inspires you and feel fabulous. Open your arms to embrace old friends and meet someone new at Winter Party Festival as we bring the world together to create change while we celebrate YOU.

I would like to thank Mayor Dan Gelber, the City of Miami Beach, all City Commissioners and staff members that go to great lengths to support Winter Party Festival. I also want to thank our amazing sponsors for their support and ask you to please support them. Additionally, I want to thank our volunteer Festival Committee members, our volunteer Executive Committee members, our Festival week volunteers, and the Task Force staff for devoting endless hours and energy to make Winter Party Festival amazing. I’m especially grateful to my Festival Vice Chair, Sergio Orlando, who has made my first year as Chair successful and enjoyable. I wouldn’t want to do this without you, Sergio!

Winter Party Festival is all about having fun and creating unforgettable experiences for you, our guest, but let’s not forget that it is a party with a purpose. Winter Party began in 1994 when four community activists decided to throw a oneday beach party for South Floridians to raise money to fight a statewide anti-LGBTQ initiative. Thanks to you and thousands of people like you, it has evolved into a world-class week-long fundraiser attended by guests from around the globe. Under the stewardship of the National LGBTQ Task Force, Winter Party Festival has been transformed into one of the world’s largest nonprofit festivals. Proceeds from the Festival and its sister event, the Task Force Gala – Miami, have allowed the Task Force to donate almost $3 million dollars to South Florida LGBTQ nonprofit organizations. One of the things I’m most looking forward to this year is celebrating Russell Roybal at the VIP Cocktail Reception on Friday, March 1. Our beloved “Circuit Supreme” played a part in the Task Force’s assuming responsibility for Winter Party and has been instrumental in growing the Festival’s volunteer leadership, attendance and gross revenue. About 100 talented committee members produce an event that attracts over 10,000 guests and raises over $1.5 million each year. My journey with Winter Party started in 2000 when I first attended as a guest and one year later, I had my first volunteer experience and have continued to volunteer ever since. I am humbled and privileged to be working alongside such amazing people that give so much to make Winter Party Festival

I am excited to announce we are ringing in a NEW ERA by bringing you: • Brand new events like an all new Wednesday night dance event and a more upscale VIP Cocktail Reception • Brand new venues, such as the ultra-sleek and modern Mr. Jones, the Hangar and Treehouse • Rising new DJ’s from around the world like Brazil’s DJ Anna Louise and UK’s Sharon O Love • Our signature event, Under One Sun Evolution, will have a new home at Nikki Beach Club, Miami Beach’s best outdoors oceanfront club I am also thrilled that we will be returning to the James L. Knight Center with two mega night events. Thank you for supporting Winter Party Festival and welcome to Miami Beach!

VIP COCKTAIL RECEPTION HONORS RUSSELL ROYBAL We are thrilled to recognize Russell Roybal, a long-time leader in the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer movement, for the enormous impact he has had on the National LGBTQ Task Force and Winter Party Festival. As a member of the organization’s Board of Directors, he lobbied his fellow board members to support the Task Force’s assuming responsibility for the Festival after the foundation that produced it dissolved. During his 12-year tenure as a Task Force staff member, he oversaw the Festival and contributed significantly to the expansion of its volunteer committee and the upward trajectory in the gross revenue it produced. Prior to joining the staff of the Task Force, Russell was director of training and capacity building of the Gill Foundation, at the time the largest private funder of LGBTQ organizations in the United States. In his role there he trained thousands of activists on how to resource their fight for equality. During his tenure the Foundation received numerous awards for its capacity building and training programs. As the Task Force’s deputy executive director, Russell directed the organization’s programmatic and policy work, and the National Conference on LGBT Equality: Creating Change. Under his leadership the Creating Change Conference and The Task Force’s annual Winter Party Festival achieved record attendance and revenue totals. The events earned a reputation as the best events of their type in the

United States and the world. Russell is currently Chief Advancement Officer of San Francisco AIDS Foundation and works alongside the organization’s development, marketing and communications, and AIDS/ LifeCycle teams. He leads the fundraising, communications, and branding efforts that resource the organization’s programmatic efforts and advance the mission of the Foundation. Russell has also served on the staffs of LLEGO - the National Latina/o LGBT Organization, the San Diego LGBT Center, and San Diego Pride. In addition to his staff roles he has served on the boards of the National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy, Grassroots Institute for Fundraising Training, National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, and the International Court System. He is currently a board member of OutRight Action International and the Rockwood Leadership Institute. Russell has received numerous awards including the League of United Latin American Citizens inaugural Equality Award and was honored by the California LGBT Legislative Caucus as a Pride Honoree in 2017 and was named Grand Marshal of the San Diego LGBT Pride celebration the same year. In 2018 he received the Harvey Milk Social Justice Award for his long-time activism on behalf of LGBTQ and Latinx communities. When not working you can find Russell underwater scuba diving or living his life on the dance floor.

VIP COCKTAIL RECEPTION PERFORMERS Jai Rodriguez Emcee

Winter Party Festival is thrilled to welcome Emmy Award-winning actor and musician Jai Rodriguez as our emcee for the evening. Jai is best known as the ‘Culture Vulture’ on the Bravo network’s reality television program Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. He began his career at age 18 when he was cast in the role of Angel in the critically acclaimed Broadway musical RENT. He continued his Broadway career, appearing in shows including The Producers and Spinning Into Butter. He also created and performed the title role of Zanna in the Off-Broadway sensation, Zanna, Don’t!. A dynamic vocalist, Jai has had the honor of sharing the stage singing duets with musical legends like Gladys Knight, Patti Labelle, Brian McKnight and Michelle Williams. Jai was featured in Lady Gaga’s video, “Telephone,” featuring Beyoncé. Jai has made appearances on hit shows such as Nip/Tuck, How I Met Your Mother, Grey’s

Carla Bordonada Singer

Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Carla Bordonada began performing professionally with local corporate bands in the island, while also working in musical theatre productions as a singer/actress and behind the scenes, as a lyricist and vocal coach. She later moved to South Florida where she began performing as a piano bar entertainer, primarily in gay piano bars in Miami and Wilton Manors, alongside her musical partner in crime, Rick Leonard. She had her first cabaret show

Anatomy and Kingdom. Recent standout TV credits include roles on Grace and Frankie, The Magicians, Wisdom of the Crowd and most recently on The Resident on FOX. Jai will rejoin the cast of the Netflix hit series EASTSIDERS for their fourth season, which starts production this fall. Throughout his life he has been an advocate for LGBTQ rights. He has supported organizations like AIDS WALK, R. E. A. F. and Life Group LA. Most recently he teamed up with Positively Fearless to educate the Latinx community about HIV and encourage gay and bisexual men to be fearless in taking charge of their health. You can listen to Jai every day as he hosts Inside OUT, the morning show on OUT/NOW radio, a brand new station dedicated to the LGBTQ community. These are just a few of the many highlights of his diverse career thus far.

CANCIONES DE BROADWAY, directed by David Sexton, at the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center in 2013 and during which she met and had the pleasure of singing a duet with the LGBT Task Force’s own Josué Santiago. Carla has also performed in a few South Florida musical theatre shows, including Slow Burn Theatre’s production of the musical CHESS. Always supportive of fellow musicians in the LGBT community, Miss Bordonada has also performed several times with the South Florida Pride Wind Ensemble. She now lives in New York City, where she has her one-woman weekly show at a — you guessed it — gay bar in the Upper East Side! Among her future projects, Carla will be playing one of the three Divas in Slowburn Theatre’s production of PRISCILLA QUEEN OF THE DESERT, which is set to open in June, 2019 at The Broward Center of Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale.

WINTER PARTY CARES

HEALTH & WELLNESS AT WINTER PARTY FESTIVAL Winter Party Festival is the most fun, sexy and friendly LGBTQ event in the world. In addition to coming together as a community for a loving celebration, we raise critical funds to continue the fight for full freedom, justice and equality for all of our people. As producers of a world-renowned LGBTQ event, the National LGBTQ Task Force recognizes that we have a responsibility to help our community stay safe and healthy—not just at Winter Party Festival, but in all aspects of life. This year, we’re fortunate to be partnering with a record number of health, education, social service and harm-reduction organizations dedicated to the well-being of our community. They are listed at the bottom of the opposite page. We ask you to heed to these important health and safety tips. If you’re sexually active, protect yourself and your partner(s): Complimentary safer sex kits, sponsored by WET, which include condoms and lube, are in your gift bags. The kits can also be picked up at the Welcome Center and throughout the Festival at various events. Know your status: Get tested—not only for HIV, but also for hepatitis, gonorrhea, syphilis and other Sexually Transmitted Infections. Don’t miss our HIV testing stations at Under

One Sun, provided by Impulse Group, and Localize, provided by Prevention 305 and Avita Pharmacy. Rapid HIV testing takes only a few minutes. Don’t miss our Localize: Thursday, February 28 from 7-9pm at Hotel Gaythering. Representatives from Prevention 305 and Avita Pharmacy will be on-site to answer questions about Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) and the role it can play in reducing the risk of contracting HIV. Educate yourself about Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs): While the advent of PrEP has significantly cut the rates of new HIV infection in communities where PrEP is widely used, it has also led to an increase in unprotected sex. PrEP can prevent the spread of HIV, but it does not protect against other Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI’s), such as syphilis, gonorrhea and hepatitis A, B and C, which are on the rise, and some of which are becoming increasingly resistant to antibiotic treatment. Please be safe, be aware, and talk about risks with your sexual partners. Condoms will help reduce your risks. Know your limits: If you drink alcohol, do so moderately. On hot, sunny days, don’t forget to alternate consumption of alcohol with water or soft drinks. If you consume drugs, know what you’re taking. Winter Party Festival organizers do not endorse or condone the use of any

illegal drugs, but we also know that we cannot control what people do in private. Thanks to information provided by DanceSafe and Impulse Group, you can learn about the effects and unique risks associated with various drugs, as well as cautions about drug interactions. Be aware that not all drugs are created equal; some carry much greater risks than others. The use of crystal meth, one of the most physically addictive drugs ever known, is on the rise. If you use meth, or are thinking about trying it, we urge you to study the information on the website of our health partner, the Meth Project (www.methproject.org).

Sunscreen Tent at Under One Sun and The

Limit sun exposure: It might sound cliché, but don’t forget to pack your sunscreen, lip balm, hats and sunglasses. The Miami sun can be scorching! Keep an eye out for the Walgreens

We love you—and we want you to stay happy

Beach Party. Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated! Look out for each other: If your friend appears to be excessively buzzed, don’t leave them alone. We have medical staff on call at every event. If you feel sick, dizzy, faint, or otherwise need help, or if you see someone who does, look for a staff member or volunteer, who will find an appropriate professional to assist you. The doctors and paramedics at ParaDocs, our medical services partner, are here to help.

and healthy! Winter Party Festival Team

Bigger. Better. More VIP than ever! Join us for the jewel of Winter Party Festival’s Social Events line-up, the VIP Cocktail Reception, this year hosted by renowned actor and musician Jai Rodriguez (best known as the culture guide on the Emmy-winning reality show Queer Eye for the Straight Guy), with special guest performance by singer Carla Bordonada. Enjoy exquisite hors d’oeuvres and open bar provided by Bacardi as you mingle with la crème de la crème of Winter Party guests: community leaders, celebrities, influencers and the most VIPs, while you learn more about the Task Force’s work, its champions and its impact not only on the LGBTQ community of South Florida, but the whole nation. This year, Winter Party Festival is proud to honor Russell Roybal, former Deputy Executive Director of the National LGBTQ Task Force, nationally recognized LGBTQ activist and “circuit supreme”.

We’re excited to announce the return of the Festival’s theater night – in partnership with Zoetic Stage and the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts – with the South Florida premiere of Every Brilliant Thing by Duncan Macmillan with Jonny Donahoe, directed by Stuart Meltzer. This exhilarating play strikes a delicate balance between sobering loss and cathartic laughter. In this one-person tour de force, a man attempts to cure his mother’s depression by creating a list of the best things in the world. The list grows as he progresses from childhood (“ice cream”), to college (“surprises”) and marriage (“falling in love”). But when life deals a bitter blow, the list proves to be helpful to the son in ways that it could never be for the mother. London’s The Stage called it an “Extraordinary piece of inclusive, participative theatre.” Use promo code WPFSOCIALFUND to purchase your tickets, and 15% of your ticket price will be donated to the National LGBTQ Task Force. Enjoy a Q&A session with the brilliant stars of the play and a prosecco toast provided by Bacardi right after the show.

ABOUT THE TASK FORCE The National LGBTQ Task Force advances full freedom, justice and equality for LGBTQ people. We’re building a future where everyone is free to be themselves in every aspect of their lives. Today, despite all the progress we’ve made to end discrimination, millions of LGBTQ people face barriers in every aspect of their lives: in housing, employment, healthcare, retirement and basic human rights. These barriers must go. That’s why the Task Force is training and mobilizing millions of activists across our nation to deliver a world where you can be you.
