It’s the perfect way to have some fun and cool off on those hot summer nights! The Woodland West Pool will re-open after swim lessons for family swim time from 8 – 10 PM. Family Nights are $2.50 per person. One adult and one child are considered a family.

HAVE A SPLASHING GOOD TIME Rent a pool for your next party!

All outdoor pools are available to rent Thursday – Sunday for private parties, family gatherings, reunions, etc. Times vary depending on the pools’ operating hours. Lifeguards are provided for all rentals.

Fee includes up to the maximum number of guests listed and a two hour rental. A 72-hour notice is required to book an outdoor pool.

Changes or cancellations to pool reservations are subject to a $50.00 administrative fee.

Allen Bolden Pool is an L-shaped Olympic sized pool that meets the needs of virtually every swim enthusiast. The pool features a diving board, lap lanes and zero depth entry. Additional amenities include concessions, eight shade structures and a large grass campus.

Bad Königshofen Family Aquatic Center offers a great value for the entire family. Features include an interactive spray pad, shallow water play pool, lap pool, diving area and two water slides (for riders over 48”). Other amenities include concessions, storage lockers, shower facilities, deck furniture and a shade pavilion.

The Randol Mill Family Aquatic Center offers something for all ages, including interactive elements such as a shallow water play structure, vortex pools, current channel, water slide (for riders over 48”), tot and leisure areas. Other amenities include two shade pavilions, shower facilities, deck furniture and concessions.

Woodland West Pool is a popular neighborhood pool that features shaded areas and grass. The back wall of the pool is elevated and is great place to jump off and make big splashes. The pool also features a large shallow end that is great for young children.

SWIM CLASSES The City of Arlington Outdoor Learn to Swim program offers a variety of classes and schedule times to meet your needs during the busy summertime! Classes are offered mornings and evenings, Monday through Friday for two weeks. The American Red Cross Learn

Goals: • Swim 500 yards continuously. Retrieve an object from bottom of pool (depth 7-10 feet), return to surface and swim to start point.

HELPFUL HINTS

• Swim classes may reach maximum capacity quickly. Please remember to register early so you will not be disappointed. If your class is full, please allow us to put you on the waiting list. We will contact you as soon as possible if a spot becomes available.

• Students must meet the age requirements and prerequisite prior to the first day of the class that they are registered for.

• Parents, please allow yourself extra time on the first day of class for completing class release forms and meeting your child’s instructor.

PRIVATE LESSONS

One-on-one instruction provides the fastest progress possible due to the undivided attention of the instructor and individual lessons planned to meet the child’s needs. Private Swim Lessons are scheduled throughout the summer and are available at different times during each session. Fees are five classes, 25 minutes each for $100, per single student.

CANCELED CLASSES

• In the event that a class is canceled, every effort will be made to notify you by telephone. On the first day of class please verify that the pool staff has the correct phone number.

• If a class is canceled for any reason, we will try to make up time by adding on time to remaining classes. However, if for some reason this is not possible, a session is considered complete if 8 out of 10 classes are taught.

• Classes may be canceled due to low enrollment.

SPECIALTY CLASSES

READY, SET, GUARD! JUNIOR GUARD CLASS

Learning Objectives: Lifeguarding is a serious and rewarding job! Junior guard volunteers learn what it’s like to be a lifeguard and gain the skills necessary for future employment. You will receive basic water training and classroom type activities with interactive videos.

LIFEGUARD TRAINING

Learning Objectives: Recognize specific characteristic behaviors of distressed swimmers and active and passive drowning victims; recognize aquatic emergencies and act promptly and appropriately; perform equipment-based rescue skills and techniques used by professional lifeguards; recognize and care for possible spinal cord injuries; learn to provide first aid and CPR. Prerequisite: Must be at least 15 years old to enroll in this class and be able to swim a total of 300 yards, demonstrating freestyle and breaststroke.

Must be able to swim 20 yards, submerge and retrieve a 10 lb. brick, return to the surface, and swim 20 yards back to the starting point within 1 minute 40 seconds. Must be able to tread water for 2 minutes using legs only. Candidates successfully completing the class will be certified in Lifeguarding, Standard First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer.

Prerequisite: You must have completed Level 5 swimming skills or demonstrate the ability to swim 100 yards, tread water for two minutes and submerge to a depth of at least 8 feet.

JUNIOR GUARD MENTORING VOLUNTEER PROGRAM

This is two week mentoring program designed to teach and prepare Junior Guards to become Lifeguards. To apply for the program write a letter of interest to Maria Campbell, Aquatics Manager. Learning Objectives: Through classroom learning and hands on experience, the American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Course will help you learn how to teach people of all ages to swim and to be safe in and around water.

Participants must be at least 16 years old.

Prerequisite: 25 yards Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, Sidestroke, Elementary Backstroke and 15 yards Butterfly. All strokes must be performed at Level 4 skill level.

Through extensive training you will learn how to assist Water Safety Instructors in teaching swim lessons. The first portion of this training class is spent on stroke refinement and learning how to teach. The second portion is spent observing other swimming classes. Participants who are interested in working or volunteering in the Arlington Learn to Swim program will be required to apply and interview before being placed.
