CAMP INFO

REGISTRATION

Registration is on a first come, first serve basis. Camp capacity numbers may be limited so we recommend registering as soon as possible to ensure enrollment. Advanced registration is required and is complete once payment is received for each program.

Online registration is recommended and preferred. The online price includes all advertised discounts. A charge of $25 will be assessed on all returned checks.

FULL DAY CAMPS

Join us at one of our themed full day camps this summer. Check out the locations and themes on the following pages. Each week will be filled with games, crafts, and other fun activities. Campers will swim at least one time per week at a nearby City of Arlington pool. Optional lunch program is available at certain camps. An afternoon snack is provided at all locations. *Field trips are planned throughout the summer.

*Trips will be scheduled only if camp protocol allows us to safety transport campers to an off-site trip destination.

A Parent Handbook can be found on our website. It outlines our camp structure, hiring protocol, discipline policies, and Standards of Care procedures.

MINI CAMPS

A variety of mini camps may be offered at select centers. These unique camps highlight specific interests (i.e., basketball, cooking, engineering) and are scheduled either during the morning or afternoon. These are great for families who are not seeking child-care but just looking for some fun activities and skills to learn.

Campers enrolled in a Full Day Camp may enroll in a Mini Camp at the same week at the same location for a discounted price of 25% off the Mini Camp.

The Arlington Parks and Recreation Department is dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment for participants. We welcome all people no matter their race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, or disability.

We comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act in making reasonable accommodations when possible. Participants requesting special accommodations need to complete a Special Accommodations Request Form. REFUND POLICY

A customer must withdraw from a program or camp three days prior to the start of the first class to be eligible for a refund or credit.

Fees for classes, programs, or camps which are canceled by the Arlington Parks & Recreation Department are fully refundable. We encourage our customers to utilize their funds to re-enroll in other programs. Staff will gladly assist with finding a similar program at another location. Participants removed from an Arlington Parks & Recreation facility, class, program, lesson or camp due to disciplinary reasons will not receive a refund.

SUMMER CAMPS

Full day camps offer a new theme each week with games. Camp Elzie will be a fun filled day playing various sports, crafts, rock climbing, skating and so much more! The camp has a perfect blend of sports, games and activities. An afternoon snack is provided. The camp is for ages 5-12. A digital copy of the parent's packet will be available upon request at registration outlining activities, the overview of each week, discipline policies and a copy of our Standards of Care procedures. Second child discount is not available online.

Full day camps offer a new theme each week with games, crafts, an afternoon snack, and other fun activities. Campers may also swim at least once per week at a nearby pool. The camp is for ages 5-12. Lions & tigers & bears, oh my! Come learn about a variety of animals, notably those native to Texas, as we prepare for our trip to the Fort Worth Zoo!

Grab your Poké Ball and Trainer’s Guide as Dottie is transformed into the Pokémon World. Not only will we have Pokémon-related activities, but we’ll also discuss the importance of properly caring for the Poké-dog, cat, or fish you may have at home.

It’s our duty to take care of our natural resources so that future generations can also enjoy the splendors of the planet. This week, we’ll learn about the things we can do to preserve our home in anticipation of our trip to River Legacy! *Excludes Juneteenth Holiday

SUMMER TENNIS TRAINING- AGES 13-18

For High School students & incoming freshmen only. Taught by Coach Lance Drake (USPTA Tennis Pro, former D-1 player and collegiate coach for 30 years). Includes technical, live ball drills, point situation/match play scenarios. Players must be capable of extended rallies. In addition, this group is required to do intense court movement. This training should only be attempted by those looking to improve not only their tennis skills but their physical and mental conditioning as well.

Required: UTR 3.0 or above Tues-Thurs each week from May 28 to August 1. Cost is $84 per week or $35 per day. Or $300 for a 4-week session (June 3-27, July 8-Aug 1). *No summer training the week of July 2-4.

You can reserve East Indoor Pool during public swim hours on Friday (5:00 -8:30 PM), Saturday and Sunday (1:30 - 3:30 PM and 4:00 - 6:00 PM) for your next gathering. Or, you can go all out with a private rental on Saturday or Sunday (6:30 - 8:30 PM), which is ideal for family reunions, birthdays, or simply having a good time with friends!

RENT A POOL OR PAVILION

Rent a pool for your next party! Select pools are available to rent Thursday through Sunday for private parties, family gatherings, reunions, etc. Times vary depending on the pools’ operating hours. Lifeguards are provided for all rentals. Fee includes up to the maximum number of guests listed and a two hour rental. A 72-hour notice is required to book an outdoor pool. Changes or cancellations to pool reservations are subject to a $50 administrative fee.

LIFEGUARD

Candidates successfully completing the class will be certified Lifeguarding, Standard First and CPR for the Professional Rescuer. Attendance at all classes is required! Times are subject to change. Learning Objectives: Recognize specific characteristic behaviors of distressed swimmers and active and passive drowning victims; recognize aquatic emergencies and act promptly and appropriately; perform equipment-based rescue skills and techniques used by professional lifeguards; recognize and care for possible spinal cord injuries; learn to provide first aid and CPR.

Prerequisites: Must be 15 years old to enroll in this class and able to swim a total of 300 yards demonstrating freestyle and breaststroke. Must be able to swim 20 yards, submerge and retrieve a 10 pound brick, return to the surface, swim 20 yards back to the starting point within 1 minute and 40 seconds.

AND PRIVATE LESSONS

Classes may reach maximum capacity quickly. Please remember to register early so you will not be disappointed. If your class is full, please allow us to put you on the waiting list. We will contact you as soon as possible if a spot becomes available.

Students must meet the age requirements and prerequisite prior to the first day of the class that they are registered for.

Parents, please allow yourself extra time on the first day of class for completing class release forms and to meet your child’s instructor.

To ensure quality instruction and safety every effort is made to adhere to strict student-to-teacher ratios. Classes have a maximum enrollment of 4-8 students depending on the level. Only those registered for classes will be allowed in the water while classes are in session. The tot pool at Bad Königshofen pool is not available for use during class hours.

Swim lessons for individuals with disabilities or special needs are available following the inclusion model. Private lessons are also available for individuals wanting one on one instruction.

TRANSFER AND WITHDRAW

Participants must be withdrawn from the class three days prior to the class start date to receive a refund.

CANCELED CLASSES

In the event that a class is canceled, every effort will be made to notify you by telephone. On the first day of class verify that the pool staff has the correct phone number.

If a class is canceled for any reason on the behalf of the City of Arlington, we will try to make up time by adding minutes to the remaining classes. However if this is not possible, the following Friday will serve as our designated make up day.

Aquatics classes must have at least two participants. The Aquatics team will move registrants of classes that do not make to another class, issue a refund, or find other accommodations.

The City of Arlington Learn to Swim program offers a variety of classes and schedule times to meet your needs during the busy summertime!

The combination of MARS and American Red Cross Learn to Swim programs include parent/tot, preschool, and school age swimming lessons. We also offer private lessons for all ages.

PRESCHOOL SWIM CLASSES

PARENT/CHILD — AGES: 6 MONTHS-35 MONTHS

Maximum Enrolled: 8

One parent or trusted adult along with the instructor teaches your child fun and fitness while learning water adjustment, games, songs, swimming skills and safety in and out of the pool. Child must wear swim diaper and bathing suit. *Parent must enter the water with child. Proper bathing suit is required

PRESCHOOL 1 — AGES: 3-5

This class will focus on helping your child establish independence in the water while beginning to build a basic foundation for swimming skills.

PRESCHOOL 2 — AGES: 3-5

This class is designed for the 3-5 year old preschool swimmer who has had prior experience in the water, and can fully submerge independently. This class will focus on teaching your child independent front and back floats and glides, propelling through the water with coordinated kicking and arm actions, holding breath for 5-10 seconds, retrieving objects off the bottom of the pool, rhythmic breathing and unassisted water entries and exits. Prerequisite: Successful completion of Preschool 1.

LEVEL 3 — STROKE DEVELOPMENT

Prerequisite: Goals of Fundamentals of Aquatic Skills, level 2.

Goals: Jump in deep water, tread or float for 1 minute, swim Front Crawl or Elementary Backstroke for 25 yards. Perform 15 yards of Front Crawl with rotary breathing and 15 yards of Elementary Backstroke.

LEVEL 4 — STROKE IMPROVEMENT

Maximum Enrolled: 6

Prerequisite: Goals of Stroke Development, level 3.

Goals Level 4A: Swimming 25 yards of Front Crawl, 25 yards of Elementary Backstroke, and 25 yards of Breaststroke with precision.

Goals Level 4B: Swimming 25 yards of Backstroke, 25 yards of Sidestroke, and 15 yards of Butterfly with precision.

LEVEL 5 — STROKE REFINEMENT

Maximum Enrolled: 6 It begins as basic as learning to do a successful submersion for five seconds, and finishes with 10 - 20 yards of backstroke and freestyle, rolling to catch a breath. MARS 1 also has a huge emphasis on safety and comfort in the water.

FUNDAMENTALS

OF AQUATIC SKILLS

Maximum Enrolled: 6 Emphasis shifts to refining freestyle and backstroke, and introducing the swimmers to breaststroke. Additionally, swimmers will work on body position and awareness in the water

MARS LEVEL 3

STROKE DEVELOPMENT

Cost: $75

Maximum Enrolled: 6 Introduction of progression in diving into the water begin, as well as new focus on flutter, breaststroke and dolphin kicks. Refinement of breathing technique is emphasized.

STROKE SCHOOL

In Stroke School we emphasize technique, technique, technique. Stroke School swimmers need to be able to accomplish the skills required in MARS 3 (or equivalent) before registering. Dives and turns are part of this curriculum, as well building the swimmer's endurance to complete 25 yards each of freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke by the end of the course.
