HER TIME TO PLAY It can be challenging to stick with sports as a young girl, especially in a male-dominated sport like basketball. By the age of 14, girls drop out of sports twice as often as boys. That’s why the WNBA and Jr. NBA created a nationwide initiative called Her Time To Play, a program dedicated to championing change on behalf of girls and women and providing them with ways to connect, collaborate, and actively engage with one another through the game of basketball.

Led by former TCU player and present City of Arlington employee, Lorie Butler- Zarate, the Arlington Parks and Recreation’s Athletics Department joined this initiative. Offering Arlington’s first Her Time To Play basketball clinic this spring at Meadowbrook Recreation Center, 20 girls came together to take part in the inaugural event. The Jr. NBA kindly donated 10 women’s size basketballs to the program, as well as other gifts. The program provides basketball curriculum developed specifically for young women, as well as lessons that teach the girls life skills, like how to face challenges, gain confidence, and learn values both on and off the court. Her Time To Play participants enjoyed a special visit from Sandora Irvin, former WNBA player and TCU Hall of Famer. Irvin gave the girls some words of encouragement and served as a great role model to these young athletes. The girls also received tickets to a Wings game for the opprtunity to get on the court and meet the team in the tunnel. This first clinic was very appreciated by participants and parents alike, with many expressing an interest in continuing the program throughout the year. Arlington Athletics plans to offer additional clinics through the Her Time To Play initiative to continue inspiring young girls to learn and enjoy basketball. For more information, please contact Lorie Butler-Zarate at 817-459-5468.

FITNESS FITNESS PACKAGES

Arlington Parks & Recreation offers a variety of monthly membership packages that allow residents and visitors to enjoy programs and amenities at all recreation, athletics and senior centers across The American Dream City. These tiered membership packages are being offered in lieu of Parks & Recreation’s annual membership program, which had not been updated since 2004. The new monthly membership programs allow Arlington residents to participate in a wide range of Parks & Recreation’s programs at any center without paying additional fees as they would have under the previous membership program. Monthly memberships can be purchased for individuals or for a family of up to five people. Individual membership rates are based on the age of the participant and are discounted for adult residents over the age of 60. Family memberships for anyone living under the same roof up to five people. Additional family members would need to purchase individual membership packages based on age. Non-residents are also eligible to buy a Parks & Recreation monthly membership at a slightly higher cost than residents. Patrons can choose among three levels of membership, based on their needs and interests. For example, someone looking to swim laps at The East’s 113,000-gallon indoor pool or to take advantage of the indoor track at The Beacon may find the basic Blue membership to be the best fit for their fitness needs. A Green membership opens up access to weight room and cardio equipment at all centers. And the Gold membership provides patrons with discounts on select programs as well as the highest level of access to amenities and programs at all centers, including in-person and virtual fitness classes, roller skating at Elzie Odom, and on-site childcare for up to four children during visits at no extra cost. Ready to begin enjoying all the great amenities and programs that Arlington has to offer? Stop by any of the centers or the Parks & Recreation Administration Office, 717 W. Main St., to sign up today. You can also purchase a membership online; naturallyfun.org. For questions or help, please call the Admin Office at 817-459-5474 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Not ready to commit to a monthly membership? Arlington Parks & Recreation offers a day pass for $8, which provides an individual with Gold membership access to any center. Patrons must be 15 years or older to purchase an individual membership or day pass. Please note that water fitness classes for the indoor pool at The East are not included in any membership package. JULIA BURGEN PARK TRAIL CONNECTION

Arlington residents will soon be able to walk throught Julia Burgen Park with this trail connection project. The scope of work includes extending the existing trail network within Julia Burgen Park to enable linking surrounding residential neighborhoods and University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) campus to the park. Julia Burgen Park is located in central Arlington bordered by Collins Street and Park Row. The park encompasses approximately 67 acres of the Johnson Creek floodplain and is dissected by Center and Mesquite Streets. The project includes connecting the existing trail sections, such as the trail located under the S. Center St./ Mesquite St. bridges, tying into the existing trail network at the park and providing a vital east to west connection. The project is jointly funded through Transportation Alternative Program (TAP) grant and City of Arlington funds for design, engineering, environmental clearance (permit) studies and construction of the project. Julia Burgen Park Trail Connection was awarded funding through The Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside (TA Set-Aside) Program in response to APRD’s application submitted in February 2017. In order to receive this federal funding, the City executed a Local Project Advanced Funding Agreement (LPAFA) with the Texas Deptartment of Transportation (TxDOT). During the initial design process of the project, followed by several weeks of research for possible alternatives, it was discovered that a change to the proposed trail alignment would be unavoidable. Several unanticipated factors that would cause negative impacts to the natural areas of the park, necessitated a change to the trail alignment. The City conducted a public meeting to incorporate feedback from residents. A new trail alignment was developed that would allow connecting UTA campus areas and residential areas with the linear park system. After completion, it is anticipated, that this project will enhance the linear park network and offer residents an off-street hike-bike path connection. ATTACHMENT- C

The design and environmental permitting process started in fall 2019. The anticipated construction is summer 2023.

For more information about this project, please contact Mitali Mandlekar, Parks Project Manager II, at Mitali.Mandlekar@ArlingtonTX.gov

MINERAL WELL PUBLIC PLAZA

The City plans to rebuild history with this addition, expected to be completed in 2023. This project will restore the famous Mineral Well that was torn down in 1951. This well is central to Arlington’s development and collective memory. The project goal is to provide a public gathering place to memorialize the historic Mineral Well, through creation of a strong focal point and visual terminus for the view looking eastward down W. Main St. The proposed site is located at the west end of the plaza situated between City Hall and the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library. The scope of work includes construction of a public plaza. The plaza will include focal point elements such as the architectural clock tower with art work, sculpted by a local artist, water feature, seating areas and sculptural elements that memorialize the Mineral Well. The project will be funded through the Arlington Tomorrow Foundation and Arlington Parks and Recreation Department (APRD). APRD will operate will operate and maintain the fountain and seek operating and maintenance funding in the City’s general fund budget to support these efforts. The City completed Competitive Sealed Proposal process of procurement for selecting the contractor. A selection committee conducted an evaluation process and selected a contractor who was deemed most qualified for this project. City Council approved Construction Contract with Millis Development and Construction - Dallas, LLC, of Missouri City, Texas in the amount $2,387,846.50. The Office of Business Diversity (OBD) recommended the City’s Aspirational 30% MWBE Goal for this contract. Millis Development and Construction- Dallas, LLC, has agreed to 35.95% MWBE participation, thus exceeding the goal requirements. Construction is anticipated to begin October 2022, with a dedication ceremony anticipated in summer 2023. RIVER LEGACY PARK TRAIL IMPROVEMENTS More improvements coming to the crown jewel of Arlington's park system.

River Legacy Park is a 1,100-acre property located in north Arlington along the Trinity River Corridor. The facility is Arlington’s largest park and serves hundreds of thousands of visitors annually. The existing hike and bike trail has been in place for approximately 27 years and is experiencing substantial areas of erosion due to the migration of the Trinity River. This river migration has necessitated the trail to be realigned to prevent further failures based on erosion of the riverbank.

River Legacy Park Trail Improvements | Phase-I

Realignment and replacement for approximately 1.3 miles of existing trail within the Trinity River Floodplain. Project limits between mile marker 1 and the pedestrian bridge crossing located at the east end at N. Collins St. parking lot. This project includes replacement of existing pedestrian bridge located at Snider creek. The new pedestrian bridge will sustain vehicular loads for emergency (vehicular) access and maintenance access. The new bridge will provide improved and much needed access into the limited access areas of the park. This project also includes replacement of existing sanitary sewer line within the park area. Approximately 2,600 linear feet of 6-inch to 12-inch sanitary sewer mains located within the River Legacy Park will be replaced with the trail project to eliminate sections that are located too close to the Trinity River banks and in deteriorated conditions. Heavy rainfall events in late 2018 led to even further erosion that was not identified within the original scope of work, and thus required the contract modification in January 2019 for the Phase-I project. Constructing multiple projects concurrently will minimize environmental impact to the existing natural areas. Construction is set to begin approximately summer 2023 and construction ends approximately fall 2024. For more information about this project, please contact Mitali Mandlekar, Parks Project Manager II, at Mitali.Mandlekar@ArlingtonTX.gov

River Legacy Park Trail Replacement | Phase II

Reroute of 1 mile of trail from mile marker 0.0 to 1.0. Construction for this trail replacement began spring 2022 and is slated to be completed approximately spring 2024. For more information about this project, please contact Eric Seebock, Parks Project Manager II, at Eric.Seebock@ArlingtonTX.gov River Legacy Park Trail West Connection 2020 Trail connection of far west end of River legacy Trail with City of Fort Worth trail, ½ mile in length with a pedestrian bridge crossing. Construction began summer 2022 and is set to end summer 2023. For more information about this project, please contact Eric Seebock, Parks Project Manager II, at Eric.Seebock@ArlingtonTX.gov

TIERRA VERDE RENOVATIONS

A complete bunker renovation and green resurfacing commenced on July 3 as the first step in the renovation process.

Renovation Schedule Jul 3 - Golf course and practice facility to close Jul 11 - Tentative date for green sprigs to be planted Aug 1 - Mobilization and commencement of bunker renovations Aug 15 - Driving range to re-open Oct 1 - Golf course to re-open

“The feedback that we consistently receive from golfers is their love of the layout and appreciation for the scenic setting that Tierra Verde provides. Our hope is that these playability improvements result in an even better experience for our patrons.”

The greens will be expanded and restored to the original design of course architect Gary Stephenson (Graham & Panks International) from when the course opened in 1998. Tierra Verde will also transition to Champion Dwarf Bermudagrass for the putting surfaces, from the current TifEagle Bermuda greens. The first week after closing will be used to prep the surfaces for the new grass, which will include the Champion “no till” method. Green sprigs are planned to be planted on July 11. During the closure, Tierra Verde will also undergo a complete bunker renovation. The bunkers will be re-built using the Better Billy Bunker method which eliminates the traditional cloth geo-textile liner and replaces it with a sprayed-on polymer sub-surface. As a result, the new method results in better playing conditions and reduced maintenance following heavy rainfall. All existing sand in the bunkers will be removed and replaced with new sand to provide better playability and aesthetics as well. Tierra Verde was the first golf course in Texas, and the first municipal course in the world, to be certified as an Audubon Signature Sanctuary. Carved from 250 acres of secluded terrain, the course's unsurpassed layout encompasses a variety of natural settings and offers an outstanding playing experience on every hole. Golfers are encouraged to visit Texas Rangers Golf Club, Lake Arlington Golf Course, or Meadowbrook Park Golf Course during the closure. Naturally Fun Magazine • F A L L 2 0 2 2

Arlington Golf and the Texas Rangers have partnered to build the world’s only Major League Baseball-branded golf course — the Texas Rangers Golf Club — which opened in February 2019. This collaborative branding partnership, along with $24 million in course renovations, affords the opportunity for Arlington to offer a destination golf course for both Arlington residents and visitors alike.

Welcome to Home Plate at Texas Rangers Golf Club. Founded in 2021, the full service restaurant and bar is open to the public daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Patrons will enjoy a made-from-scratch menu and 10 beers on tap, paired with spectacular golf course vistas. Wall-to-wall TVs for your sports viewing pleasure, including 31 TVs within the restaurant and bar alone.

“As the world’s only MLB-themed golf course, this course is sure to be a ‘bucket list’ item for baseball fans across the globe, especially our Rangers fan right here in Arlington,” Mayor Jeff Williams said.

Expansive covered patio overlooking the golf course is the perfect spot for al fresco dining. Customers can also enjoy cocktails at one of the many outdoor patio seating areas on the events lawn overlooking the golf course.

The golf club is open to the public seven days a week. Texas Rangers Golf Club is the closest 18-hole golf course to Arlington’s Entertainment District, offering a chance to play golf in conjunction with a visit to a Dallas Cowboys or Texas Rangers Game, TexasLive!, or the numerous other events at AT&T Stadium, Globe Life Park, UTA or downtown Arlington. A $24 million project, Texas Rangers Golf Club involved a total renovation and updated routing of the existing golf course with improved turf grasses and additional water features. A new 33,871-square-foot clubhouse, which opening in early 2020, features a full-service restaurant and bar, covered patio overlooking the golf course, pro shop, locker rooms, and numerous rental and event spaces.

The culinary department is led by Executive Chef Ben Johnson, whose background includes Ritz Carlton and Hyatt Hotels, along with Country Clubs for 7 years, including Las Colinas, Mansfield and the Oaks Club in Santa Clarita, California. With over 2,700 square feet of event spaces, Texas Rangers Golf Club is the perfect location for your next special event. From corporate meetings, to birthday parties, school celebrations and wedding receptions, we can do it all! A Full-Service venue with on-site catering, bar services, state-of-the-art audio visual technology, and friendly staff. Let us create the perfect event for you! It’s hard to find a more beautiful course than the award-winning Tierra Verde Golf Club. Tierra Verde is the first golf course in Texas, and the first municipal course in the world, to be certified as an Audubon Signature Sanctuary. Walk onto the first tee and enter an environment where golf and nature come together in harmony. Opened in 1998 and carved from 250 acres of secluded terrain, the course’s unsurpassed layout encompasses a variety of natural settings and offers an outstanding playing experience on every hole. The course has hosted many prestigious events, including the Byron Nelson Qualifying Tournament. Tierra Verde has been named the top golf course in the Metroplex for three years (2012-14) by AvidGolfer magazine.* Each hole has five sets of tees, sculpted fairways, strategically placed sand bunkers and water hazards - all accented by stately trees and beautiful native grasses. The facility features a state-of-the-art golf learning center, a lighted driving range, three-hole practice course and large chipping and putting green complex. Lessons and clinics are taught by PGA/LPGA professionals and apprentices, an outdoor pavilion and full-service restaurant, Ventana Grille, that complement every event from small corporate outings to large fundraising tournaments.

Trade the typical parking lot views of other restaurants for Ventana Grille and the sights and sounds of Tierra Verde Golf Club — the first Audubon Signature Sanctuary golf course in Texas — where golf, dining and nature come together. Chefs Brandon Green and John Evans invite you to come enjoy their culinary creations! Open to the public daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and offering a takeout menu, Ventana Grille’s affordable options makes it the perfect place for your next meal. Ideally located less than three miles from I-20 off US 287, Ventana Grille is an excellent place to grab a bite to eat and enjoy a couple of drinks after your round of golf. It’s also a great quick casual lunch spot for you and your co-workers, and the ideal setting to celebrate your next special event. The kitchen is open daily from 6:30 AM to 9 PM and features Avid Golfer’s ‘Best Breakfast Burrito’ and daily lunch specials under $15. Be sure to visit ArlingtonGolf.com to see a list of upcoming events at Ventana Grille. Whether you are attending one of our special holiday functions, Date Night dinners, or are just enjoying a meal away from home, Ventana Grille promises to be a delight to the taste buds. Catering, wedding receptions, private parties, to-go orders and special requests are welcome. Take the stress off and let us handle the details for your upcoming event.

Lake Arlington Golf Course is a beautiful, 18-hole facility nestled on 185 acres on the north shore of Lake Arlington. The course was designed with all types of players in mind. With the newly renovated fairways and greens, the course provides a great golfing experience at an exceptional value. Lake Arlington’s time-honored design blends open and tree-lined fairways, long challenging par 3’s and scenic greens to appeal to every level of player. A challenge for the professional as well as the beginner, the four sets of tees, ranging from 5,485 yards to 6,637 yards, provides a fair playing field that appeals to every level. The clubhouse features a well stocked pro shop and grill. Lake Arlington’s combination of enjoyable golf, convenient location and professional staff create the perfect setting for group outings and tournaments.

Arlington’s tradition of outstanding golf began in the 1920’s with Meadowbrook Park Golf Course. Conveniently located just east of downtown Arlington, the golf course provides an excellent choice for families and leagues. The golf course is the centerpiece of Arlington’s first city park. Arlington purchased the 52-acre site in 1923 and it was sponsored by the Arlington Rotary Club. The site includes picnic grounds and the tree-filled, nine-hole golf course. Many of the holes feature vistas of nearby AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys. Meadowbrook Park is the perfect facility to learn golf and sharpen short-game skills. The 9-Hole, par-33 layout consists of six par 4s, 250 to 300 yards in length, and three par 3s, approximately 150 yards in length.

The course offers challenging golf along with a practice putting green and chipping area at an exceptional value.

The course can be easily walked or played under time constraints and has a long-standing commitment to beginning adult and junior golfers. Golf legends Ben Hogan and Byron Nelson once led golf clinics here.

A Ralph Plummer design, the course was renovated in 1998 and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2013.

Its small greens and narrow fairways are designed to challenge every level of player.

Avid Golfer voted Lake Arlington the most kid-friendly course in DFW in 2013, while the layout garnered a Top-50 public course ranking in the publication too.

The clubhouse offers a full line pro shop, concessions, and golf cart rentals. Exclusive facility rental opportunities are available for both golf and non-golf outdoor activities.

PGA Head Professional Michael Berneburg and his staff offer golf lessons for all ages and ability levels. Call 817-451-6101 for rates and availability.

With a long-standing commitment to environmental enhancement and preservation, Meadowbrook Park Golf Course is like a walk in the park for the whole family!

HELEN WESSLER PLAY POOL CLOSED Future city park with water feature planned.

Due to mechanical equipment issues, the Helen Wessler Play Pool did not open for this year's swim season. Providing a safe swim environment for the community is a top priority and guided the Arlington Parks & Recreation Department when making the decision to permanently close this aquatics facility. Mechanical failures within the filtration system, which prevented the pool from passing inspections, were detected as staff were preparing the public pool at 2310 Greenway Street for the swim season. Though the closure may be a disappointment for our swim patrons, we are excited to share that a new water amenity is in the works. This summer was already scheduled to be the final season at Helen Wessler Play Pool because of an upcoming land swap between the City of Arlington and the Arlington Independent School District. The swap will allow for a new school site as well as a future park that will feature an aquatic component for our residents to enjoy. We look forward to sharing more information about the community improvements, the park relocation and opportunities for community engagement during this process in the coming months. For a list of all City of Arlington pools and splash pads, and up-to-date information about hours of operation, visit the Parks and Recreation Department website, arlingtontx.gov/parks.
