FITNESS PACKAGES

Arlington Parks & Recreation offers a variety of monthly membership packages that allow residents and visitors to enjoy programs and amenities at all recreation, athletics and senior centers across The American Dream City.

These tiered membership packages are being offered in lieu of Parks & Recreation’s annual membership program, which had not been updated since 2004. The new monthly membership programs allow Arlington residents to participate in a wide range of Parks & Recreation’s programs at any center without paying additional fees as they would have under the previous membership program.

Monthly memberships can be purchased for individuals or for a family of up to five people. Individual membership rates are based on the age of the participant and are discounted for adult residents over the age of 60. Family memberships for anyone living under the same roof up to five people. Additional family members would need to purchase individual membership packages based on age. Non-residents are also eligible to buy a Parks & Recreation monthly membership at a slightly higher cost than residents.

Patrons can choose among three levels of membership, based on their needs and interests. For example, someone looking to swim laps at The East’s 113,000-gallon indoor pool or to take advantage of the indoor track at The Beacon may find the basic Blue membership to be the best fit for their fitness needs. A Green membership opens up access to weight room and cardio equipment at all centers. And the Gold membership provides patrons with discounts on select programs as well as the highest level of access to amenities and programs at all centers, including in-person and virtual fitness classes, roller skating at Elzie Odom, and on-site childcare for up to four children during visits at no extra cost.

Ready to begin enjoying all the great amenities and programs that Arlington has to offer? Stop by any of the centers or the Parks & Recreation Administration Office, 717 W. Main St., to sign up today. You can also purchase a membership online; naturallyfun.org. For questions or help, please call the Admin Office at 817-459-5474 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Not ready to commit to a monthly membership? Arlington Parks & Recreation offers a day pass for $8, which provides an individual with Gold membership access to any center. Patrons must be 15 years or older to purchase an individual membership or day pass.

Please note that water fitness classes for the indoor pool at The East are not included in any membership package. To purchase aquatics passes for water fitness classes, please call 817-275-1351.

CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS TABLE OF CONTENTS

Arlington Parks and Recreation is committed to creating parks, facilities, and green spaces for you and your family to enjoy.

With park fees, bonds, and other sources of income, we’re able to renovate and create facilities to fit your needs.

Arlington residents unanimously approved a package of bond projects that focus on streets, parks, fire facilities and libraries in the 2018 Bond Election.

Take a minute to read about projects we’ve recently completed or that are already under way.

ACTIVE ADULT CENTER

City set to break ground on voter-approved Active Adult Center in January 2023. Article by Susan Schrock, Office of Communication.

Construction is set to begin on the voter-approved Active Adult Center in spring 2023.

The facility, expected to open in winter 2024, will offer programs and amenities for adults ages 50 and older. The City’s newest recreational facility will be located on the southeast corner of Green Oaks Boulevard between West Arkansas Lane and West Pioneer Parkway.

The final design for the Active Adult Center is complete. On Nov. 1, the City Council approved the guaranteed maximum price of the building’s construction at $55,259,733, provided by Manhattan Construction Group, the project’s Construction Manager-at-Risk.

“This is an important milestone for the project and we’re excited as we move closer to breaking ground,” Parks and Recreation Director James Orloski said.

Arlington voters approved funding to build the Active Adult Center in a special bond election in May 2017. Amenities of the recreation center are expected to include a full-court gymnasium, aquatics component for both water exercise and leisure, locker rooms, fitness area, walking track, multi-purpose rooms for educational programs and events or sedentary activities, special events space and outdoor patio.

The City Council will vote on contracts to purchase audio/ visual systems, security systems and the furniture, finishes and equipment package for the center at a later date.

Manhattan has committed to meeting the City’s 30% Minority and Women-Owned Business Enterprise (MWBE) participation on this project through subconsultants. In September, the City of Arlington’s Office of Business Diversity collaborated with Parkhill, Manhattan Construction, Acari Management Group and Butler & Butler Construction to host a strategic trade partners networking event for the project, which drew more than 60 certified MWBE vendors from various trade industries.

ROTARY DREAM PARK

The DREAM sculpture will be relocated to this new park by approximately summer 2023.

The City is designing a new .619 acre park located on E. Front Street between N. Center Street and N. Mesquite Street and Union Pacific Railroad. The DREAM sculpture, currently located on property owned by the First Baptist Church east of Founders Plaza and the Levitt Pavilion, will be relocated to this new park. Also, in recognition of their 100th anniversary, the Rotary Club of Arlington is donating a new sculpture which will also be located on the same site. The City will complete the design and construction for the installation of both pieces of work and maintain this park in the future.

PHASE 1 IMPROVEMENTS

The masterplan of the new park allows for an interactive experience and a gathering point for residents and visitors to downtown Arlington. The park’s location is ideal to connect the new developments on Front and Division streets to the increasing vibrant downtown core south of the railroad tracks.

The Rotary Club of Arlington has imagined and donated funding to be used on the commissioned sculpture to be done by Jen Lewin Studio. The sculpture will celebrate the Rotary Club’s 100 years of dedication, vision and involvement with the Arlington community.

The sculpture will be installed by approximately summer 2023 in conjunction with the centennial celebration.

The artist selected by the Rotary Club of Arlington, Jen Lewin, is an internationally recognized Artist – Engineer based in Brooklyn, New York. Over her 27-year career, Lewin has honed her architectural background and a highly technical medium to fabricate large-scale, interactive, public sculptures that encourage community interaction and play. Uniting nature and technology, Lewin thinks beyond traditional media to create connected human experiences that bring vibrancy to public spaces.

Please note, graphics are initial renderings and are subject to change based on scope of work and project budget.

For more information about this project, please contact Mark Heinicke, Parks Planning Manager, at Mark.Heinicke@ArlingtonTX.gov

43 Naturally Fun Magazine • SPRING 2023 DECEMBER 5 2022 PROJECT #: 22210
ARLINGTON, TEXAS

RICHARD SIMPSON PARK PHASE II

Arlington residents were invited to check out the Phase II Open House on June 1.

Richard Simpson Park is a 9-acre City park on the shoreline of Lake Arlington. It is one of only two Arlington parks that provide public access to Lake Arlington for recreational usage. The 2008 bond election included replacement of the lake house facility. The Phase-I development, that included design and construction of the new Kathryn Wilemon Lake House Event Center, was completed in 2019. The 2018 Bond Program includes improvements for Phase-II development.

The Phase-II development provides site amenities such as, nature-based play area with swings (for age groups 2-5 years, 5-12 years), group pavilion, gathering spaces, pedestrian pathway connections, picnic stations, (floating) boat house, lakeview overlook area, fishing pier, parking lot improvements and landscaping.

The City of Arlington entered into a professional services contract with Freese and Nichols, Inc. of Fort Worth, Texas, to provide design and engineering services for Phase-II Development.

The community and public engagement process began in summer 2022. A community open house event was held on June 1, 2022 to inform the public about Phase II improvements. City staff and the design consultant, Freese and Nichols, Inc (FNI) assimilated public feedback received at this event.

For more information, please contact Mitali Mandlekar, Parks Project Manager II, at Mitali.Mandlekar@ArlingtonTX.gov

• NATURALLYFUN.ORG 44
City of Arlington Parks and Recreation

A revised conceptual site plan was developed incorporating public feedback. This was shared at the second public meeting, held on Aug 16, 2022. The revised site plan was well received by the public during this meeting.

The consultant has begun the detailed design phase and is engaged in preparation of design and engineering documents. Another public open house event is anticipated in Spring 2023 to share design progress and proposed park improvement (design) ideas.

Arlington Golf and the Texas Rangers have partnered to build the world’s only Major League Baseball-branded golf course — the Texas Rangers Golf Club — which opened in February 2019. This collaborative branding partnership, along with $24 million in course renovations, affords the opportunity for Arlington to offer a destination golf course for both Arlington residents and visitors alike.

“As the world’s only MLB-themed golf course, this course is sure to be a ‘bucket list’ item for baseball fans across the globe, especially our Rangers fan right here in Arlington,” Mayor Jeff Williams said.

The golf club is open to the public seven days a week. Texas Rangers Golf Club is the closest 18-hole golf course to Arlington’s Entertainment District, offering a chance to play golf in conjunction with a visit to a Dallas Cowboys or Texas Rangers Game, TexasLive!, or the numerous other events at AT&T Stadium, Globe Life Park, UTA or downtown Arlington.

A $24 million project, Texas Rangers Golf Club involved a total renovation and updated routing of the existing golf course with improved turf grasses and additional water features. A new 33,871-square-foot clubhouse, which opening in early 2020, features a full-service restaurant and bar, covered patio overlooking the golf course, pro shop, locker rooms, and numerous rental and event spaces.

fb.com/MeadowbrookParkGolfCourse

Arlington’s tradition of outstanding golf began in the 1920’s with Meadowbrook Park Golf Course. Conveniently located just east of downtown Arlington, the golf course provides an excellent choice for families and leagues.

The golf course is the centerpiece of Arlington’s first city park. Arlington purchased the 52-acre site in 1923 and it was sponsored by the Arlington Rotary Club.

The site includes picnic grounds and the tree-filled, nine-hole golf course. Many of the holes feature vistas of nearby AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys.

Meadowbrook Park is the perfect facility to learn golf and sharpen short-game skills. The 9-Hole, par-33 layout consists of six par 4s, 250 to 300 yards in length, and three par 3s, approximately 150 yards in length.

The course can be easily walked or played under time constraints and has a long-standing commitment to beginning adult and junior golfers. Golf legends Ben Hogan and Byron Nelson once led golf clinics here.

Its small greens and narrow fairways are designed to challenge every level of player.

The clubhouse offers a full line pro shop, concessions, and golf cart rentals. Exclusive facility rental opportunities are available for both golf and non-golf outdoor activities.

Aquatics classes must have at least two participants. The Aquatics team will move registrants of classes that do not make to another class, issue a refund, or find other accommodations.

For more information, please contact Arlington Parks and Recreation at 817-459-5483.
