FITNESS

FITNESS PACKAGES

Arlington Parks & Recreation offers a variety of monthly membership packages that allow residents and visitors to enjoy programs and amenities at all recreation, athletics and senior centers across The American Dream City.

Monthly membership programs allow Arlington residents to participate in a wide range of Parks & Recreation’s programs at any center without paying additional fees as they would have under the previous membership program.

Monthly memberships can be purchased for individuals or for a family of up to five people. Individual membership rates are based on the age of the participant and are discounted for adult residents over the age of 60. Family memberships for anyone living under the same roof up to five people. Additional family members would need to purchase individual membership packages based on age. Non-residents are also eligible to buy a Parks & Recreation monthly membership at a slightly higher cost than residents.

Patrons can choose among three levels of membership, based on their needs and interests. For example, someone looking to swim laps at The East’s 113,000-gallon indoor pool or to take advantage of the indoor track at The Beacon may find the basic Blue membership to be the best fit for their fitness needs. A Green membership opens up access to weight room and cardio equipment at all centers. And the Gold membership provides patrons with discounts on select programs as well as the highest level of access to amenities and programs at all centers, including in-person and virtual fitness classes, roller skating at Elzie Odom, and on-site childcare for up to four children during visits at no extra cost.

Ready to begin enjoying all the great amenities and programs that Arlington has to offer? Stop by any of the centers or the Parks & Recreation Administration Office, 717 W. Main St., to sign up today. You can also purchase a membership online; naturallyfun.org. For questions or help, please call the Admin Office at 817-459-5474 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Not ready to commit to a monthly membership? Arlington Parks & Recreation offers a day pass for $8, which provides an individual with Gold membership access to any center. Patrons must be 15 years or older to purchase an individual membership or day pass.

Please note that water fitness classes for the indoor pool at The East are not included in any membership package. To purchase aquatics passes for water fitness classes, please call 817-275-1351.

CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS

Arlington Parks and Recreation is committed to creating parks, facilities, and green spaces for you and your family to enjoy.

With park fees, bonds, and other sources of income, we’re able to renovate and create facilities to fit your needs.

Arlington residents unanimously approved a package of bond projects that focus on streets, parks, fire facilities and libraries in the 2018 Bond Election.

Take a minute to read about projects we’ve recently completed or that are already under way.

*Please note that many of the elements shown for these projects are renderings and conceptual in nature.

*Please note, all renderings are subject to change based on scope of work and project budget.

ROTARY DREAM PARK PHASE II MEMORIALS AT VETERANS PARK ACTIV ADULT CENTER MEADOWBROOK PARK UPDATES 41 42 44 45

ROTARY DREAM PARK PHASE II

The City is designing a new .619 acre park located on E. Front Street between N. Center Street and N. Mesquite Street and Union Pacific Railroad. The new park will allow for an interactive experience and a gathering point for residents and visitors to downtown Arlington. The park’s location is ideal to connect the new developments on Front and Division streets to the increasing vibrant downtown core south of the railroad tracks.

The Rotary Club of Arlington commemorated its centennial by donating “Boundless,” a new interactive public art piece at the future Rotary Dream Park site as Phase 1 of the project.

The Rotary Club held a dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the sculpture June 10. The sculpture celebrates the Rotary Club of Arlington’s 100 years of dedication, vision, and involvement with the community, including its pivotal role in the creation and evolution of the parks system in Arlington.

Phase II of the project includes design and construction of the remainder of the park site, and the re-location of the DREAM sculpture, currently located on property owned by the First Baptist Church east of Founders Plaza and the Levitt Pavilion.

The City will complete the design and construction for the installation of both pieces of work and maintain this park in the future.

Construction of Phase II is to begin January 2024 and scheduled to be completed in Fall 2024.

MEMORIALS COMPLETED AT VETERANS PARK

Collaborating with the Walton Walker Chapter of the Korean War Veterans Association, the Arlington Veterans Park Foundation completed a Korean War Memorial and Korean Defense Veterans Memorial (KWKDVM) and a Memorial to the Fallen (MTTF) in Arlington Veterans Park. The KWKDVM consists of five black granite columns placed inside a circular pedestrian area enclosed by a seating wall. Four of the columns recognize the military service branches that served in the Korean conflict. The center column contains a map of the Korean Peninsula. In the center of the memorial, a bronze kneeling military figure faces the granite columns.

The Memorial to the Fallen is a five-sided granite monument, up-lit at night, set in the center of granite star paving. Each side of the monument honors those Arlington residents that have given the ultimate sacrifice in all the wars from World War I to the present.

Arlington Parks and Recreation will operate and maintain the memorials.

The memorials were completed and dedicated on November 11, 2023, as part of the annual Veterans Day Commemoration Ceremony.

ACTIV ADULT CENTER

Arlington voters approved general obligation bonds in the amount of $45 million in a May 6, 2017 vote, to build an Active Adult Center (rebranded as ACTIV). The facility is currently being constructed across the street from the West Police Station, and located on the northeast corner of W. Green Oaks Boulevard and Woodland Park Boulevard.

Senior programming for the Parks and Recreation department is currently served by the East Library and Recreation Center and Dottie Lynn Recreation Center.

Amenities of the recreation center will include a full-court gymnasium, aquatics component for both water exercise and leisure, locker rooms, fitness area, elevated walking track, multi-purpose rooms for educational programs/events or sedentary activities, special events space, outdoor patio, community greenhouse, outdoor pickleball courts and a soft surface walking trail.

Construction began in January 2023, with an anticipated project completion of ACTIV in winter 2024.

MEADOWBROOK PARK UPDATES

MEADOWBROOK PARK CONCEPTUAL DESIGN

In advance of the Parks and Recreation Department centennial celebration in 2024, a Master Plan was created for Meadowbrook Park, Arlington’s first park that opened in 1924.

The existing park is approximately 52 acres. The final amenities for the park were determined by the City staff, design consultant, stakeholder groups, and the public through facilitated meetings.

The Phase I development portion of the project includes the design and construction of an all-inclusive destination playground. The playground is tentatively scheduled to open in Fall 2024 to coincide with the centennial celebration.

$5 ROUNDS FOR YOUTH ON COURSE MEMBERS

Arlington Golf is proud to announce its partnership with Youth on Course, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing affordable access to golf for junior players. The partnership will enable junior golfers enrolled in the Youth on Course program to play Lake Arlington Golf Course, Meadowbrook Park Golf Course, and the mastery course at Tierra Verde Golf Club - for just $5 per round.

In addition to accessing rounds of golf for $5 or less at some 2,000 courses nationwide, a Youth on Course membership comes with other benefits. Local golfers will be enrolled in the Texas Golf Association where they can establish an official handicap. Members have career readiness, leadership and scholarship opportunities, and will receive a free subscription to NBC GolfPass Video.

"We are committed to growing the game of golf, and our partnership with Youth on Course is an important step towards achieving that goal," said Golf Services Manager Greg Durante. "By offering affordable access to our courses, we hope to inspire the next generation of golfers and make the sport more accessible to all."

TEXAS RANGERS GOLF CLUB

701 Brown Blvd.

817-275-5941 fb.com/RangersGolfClub

Arlington Golf and the Texas Rangers have partnered to build the world’s only Major League Baseball-branded golf course — the Texas Rangers Golf Club — which opened in February 2019. This collaborative branding partnership, along with $24 million in course renovations, affords the opportunity for Arlington to offer a destination golf course for both Arlington residents and visitors alike.

“As the world’s only MLB-themed golf course, this course is sure to be a ‘bucket list’ item for baseball fans across the globe, especially our Rangers fan right here in Arlington,” Mayor Jeff Williams said.

The golf club is open to the public seven days a week. Texas Rangers Golf Club is the closest 18-hole golf course to Arlington’s Entertainment District, offering a chance to play golf in conjunction with a visit to a Dallas Cowboys or Texas Rangers Game, TexasLive!, or the numerous other events at AT&T Stadium, Globe Life Park, UTA or downtown Arlington.

A $24 million project, Texas Rangers Golf Club involved a total renovation and updated routing of the existing golf course with improved turf grasses and additional water features. A new 33,871-square-foot clubhouse, which opened in early 2020, features a full-service restaurant and bar, covered patio overlooking the golf course, pro shop, locker rooms, and numerous rental and event spaces.

Newly renovated, it’s hard to find a more beautiful course than the award-winning Tierra Verde Golf Club, which celebrated its 25th anniversary in late 2023. Tierra Verde is the first golf course in Texas, and the first municipal course in the world, to be certified as an Audubon Signature Sanctuary. Walk onto the first tee and enter an environment where golf and nature come together in harmony.

Opened in 1998 and carved from 250 acres of secluded terrain, the course’s unsurpassed layout encompasses a variety of natural settings and offers an outstanding playing experience on every hole. The course has hosted many prestigious events, including the Byron Nelson Qualifying Tournament. Tierra Verde has consistently been named one of the top-10 public golf courses in the Metroplex by AvidGolfer magazine, earning cover honors in 2023.

Each hole has five sets of tees, sculpted fairways, strategically placed sand bunkers and water hazards - all accented by stately trees and beautiful native grasses. The facility features a indoor golf training bay, lighted driving range, three-hole practice course and large chipping and putting green complex.

Lessons and clinics are taught by PGA/LPGA professionals and apprentices, an outdoor pavilion and full-service restaurant, Ventana Grille, that complement every event from small corporate outings to large fundraising tournaments.

Arlington’s tradition of outstanding golf began in the 1920’s with Meadowbrook Park Golf Course. Conveniently located just east of downtown Arlington, the golf course provides an excellent choice for families and leagues.

The golf course is the centerpiece of Arlington’s first city park. Arlington purchased the 52-acre site in 1923 and it was sponsored by the Arlington Rotary Club.

Meadowbrook Park is the perfect facility to learn golf and sharpen short-game skills. The 9-Hole, par-33 layout consists of six par 4s, 250 to 300 yards in length, and three par 3s, approximately 150 yards in length.

The course can be easily walked or played under time constraints and has a long-standing commitment to beginning adult and junior golfers. Golf legends Ben Hogan and Byron Nelson once led golf clinics here.

Its small greens and narrow fairways are designed to challenge every level of player.
