Here we are again with another beautiful issue to share with you all. I really love the theme about this month’s issue Holistic Relationships. I know when you think of relationship you think of love relationships. But in reality we have relationships with everything around us from the ground we walk on even from the air we breathe. Through my journey I have learned that your relationships with your external environment is a reflection of your relationship with self. And that right there is the basis and foundation of all relationships. How you treat yourself set the boundaries on how your environment (people, society, nature) will treat you. So I ask you how are you treating yourself? How are your relationships? I hope the answer to these questions are positive, and if they are not. Try being a little nicer to yourself, and I guarantee the world will start to be nicer to you. I hope you enjoy this month’s issue it is our first male only cover and I am so grateful to have my dear friend Dr. Consir Thot as our cover model. Please be sure to check out my exclusive interview with Consir as he further explains what it really means to be in a holistic relationship. ~ Peace @AzizahNubia Natural Woman Magazine

By Lisa Hayes Most women have absolutely no idea how valuable or powerful they really are. There is a corrosive epidemic of low self esteem in our culture that is setting a tone for relationships that range from lack luster to down right dangerous. We have a tendency to want to explain it. It was our childhood. It was our college boyfriend. It is our weight or social status. That said, explanations don’t SAVE us. Those stories, old and outdated keep us tied to broken self identities that fail us over and over again. When it comes to romantic relationships there is one simple truth. We get exactly what we are willing to settle for. Whatever you have going on in your relationship, or not going on for that matter, is something you are settling for. Women set the bar in their romantic relationships. They have all the power, until they start to give it up. If you think you can’t do any better, you are absolutely right. If you think you deserve to be treated like a Goddess, you are also absolutely right and you will be. If you get face to face with any real man and ask him what he thinks sexy is, he will say a confident woman is always sexy. Every sex symbol through the years has exuded some form of magical confidence. A woman without confidence is lacking, empty, and wrinkled up inside. She is longing for any attention and will take it where she can get it from anyone, healthy or unhealthy, real or fake. This is a recipe for disaster. Unfortunately for most women, they never find their power, and the absence of that power leaves a legacy of failed relationships and pain that spans years or decades. Just by being born female, you were GIFTED with a magic that makes the world go round. Failing to own that simple truth, creates women who lack confidence, and settle for relationships that are far beneath them. People will come to me and say I need to find my soul-mate or we need to fix our marriage, as if someone else is involved. No one else is ever involved. The relationship of your dreams is an inside job. It’s inside you, and no one else. At first glance that reality might seem overwhelming. At second glance, it’s the keys to the gate that sets you free for the rest of your life. When you are willing to recognize that no one other person is more important then your own happiness, you are home free. At that point you can have any relationship you chose to create. Until then, it’s any one’s guess Natural Woman Magazine

The massive gypsum crystals found in Mexico's Naica mine are spectacular to behold. The meterthick beams of translucent crystal stretch across a life-threateningly hot and humid chamber deep within a Mexican mountain. In 2000, the so-called "Cave of Crystals" was discovered after the chamber had been pumped free of its waters for mining operations. (The chamber was actually drained in 1975, but remained unexplored until 2000.) Without the mineral-rich waters to provide material for the crystals, their growth is on hold. (Image credit: DCL)

“It was the cause of much pain and anxiety”.
Big chop, transitioning, protective styles, and natural hair care products are all terms that are becoming more and more common. Natural hair is making a comeback in a big way. Social media helps in not only informing the general public on how to care for natural hair but advertise how normal everyday folks wear beautiful natural hairstyles. I am still fairly new at having natural hair. I've been natural as an adult now for almost two years. I used to have natural hair as a child. It was the cause of much pain and anxiety. The dreaded words my mom used to say was, "I'm about to do your hair."

My heart would start racing and tears would squeeze out of the corners of my eyes. Doing my hair consisted of taking out the current braids I normally wore, washing my hair, drying it and combing it. I was very very tender headed and my hair was and still is very very thick. It took hours to do my hair and as a child I hated it. By the time I reached the double digit age I was allowed to wear a perm. Perms made my hair super easy to comb which made the anxiety attached to doing my hair lessen. I realized I am definitely a get up and go type of a gal when it comes to hair. I didn't like spending too much time curling, wrapping, or braiding my hair.
be real. A very popular stamp of beauty is the straight hair down your back. I was a fan of that. I remember having my hair straightened as a child when my hair was natural and being told not to run around and sweat. Don't sweat? What? Don't let it rain outside and my hair was freshly pressed. My mother would have the shopping plastic bag, a newspaper, and a coat on my head running for the car. I say all of that to say I was nervous and anxious about possibly having the same experience as an adult that I did as a child. I didn't feel as though I hated my hair in its natural state. I just got very stressed at the process of grooming it.
Fast forward to June 2013 when I decided to cut all my hair off. I had been wearing a perm for all of my adult life and was ready for a change. My sister had been natural at that point for 3 years and was a voice of encouragement to go natural. She always let me know what her hair care methods were and we looked up together many natural hairstyles she would often wear. She went with me when I decided to cut my hair off for

So back to the chop. I went to the hair school in Virginia chop my hair off. The student wouldn't let me look at my hair till she finished cutting it all off. My sister was also getting her hair done and came over several times to take pictures and exclaim amazement at me actually going through with it. Finally the hair student turned my chair to look in the mirror. I was shocked. I had an itty bitty Afro. It was such a small tiny thing. I looked like a

DEAR Gidgey: I have been married for 8 years and have two children (6 & 2 year old). My husband and I are not planning to have anymore children. We are fulfilled in that regards. Sadly, I am not fulfilled when it comes to the bedroom. In order to spice things up , I need to know how do I convince my husband to incorporate sex toys in our sex life? Whenever I bring the subject up, He always says, "Let me think about it, because I really don't need help in that 'area'," but it never happens. Should I just give up and "pleasure myself", or continue to wait? -Thank you for your advice, I touch MYself Dear Mrs. I touch MYself, I am a firm believer that sex is a give and take. Both parties bedroom fantasies are Equally important. You mentioned being married for 8 years and having two children; therefore you have obviously known your husband for quite some time now. Good Communication and Respect are key ingredients for any successful "Happy" relationship. Since you have been open with your spouse about your sexual desires and he perpetually places them on hold, perhaps, it may be best to give him sort of a deadline...Not an ultimatum. Gently let him know that you respect his desire not to "enlist help" (his words) when you two make love; therefore, he need to respect the fact that when it comes to utilizing sex toys...you will use them privately to please yourself. This way, you are not pressuring him into doing something he is uncomfortable with...and your fantasies are being met. Cheers & Good Luck!-)~ Gidgey PS: There may be some additional articles in this month's Natural Woman Magazine that can offer further assistance. Interviewed by: Azizah Nubia Growing up as little girls we are fed the find your “prince charming”, “live happily ever” “white house and picket fence” prototype of what an ideal balanced relationship is. It’s every girls dream to find their true love, get married, have a family, and live happily ever after. If only it were that easy, but at the same time as we are being fed this programming, the young men who we wish to be that "prince charming" is being programmed to think “get all the booty you can”, “don’t settle early”, “I need variety”. Two completely different gender perspective, and I guarantee this is probably the reason why we have so many relationship problems in our communities. Now there a few couples who manage to break this cycle, and build successful harmonious loving relationships. This kind of relationship is what Dr. Consir Thot calls a holistic relationship. I wish to see more of these positive relationships especially in Natural Woman Magazine
our culture where we are constantly fed an enormous meal of negative television, music, movies, and news on the dysfunction of black relationships. With the knowledge and expertise Consir shares with me, I hope this will be the beginning of rebuilding positive relationship structures within our families and communities. Azizah Nubia: Why are Holistic relationships important? Consir: First you have to understand what a holistic relationship is. A holistic relationship embodies the spirit, mind, and body , it’s the total involvement in the relationship. So if you are not, totally engaged with your partner in your relationship your relationship is going to have holes. You're not going to be able to stand on a strong solid foundation, but if you have that strong foundation that www.asknaturalwoman.com 25
embodies the holistic spirit, mind, and body then you have a complete whole relationship. That’s what makes a relationship holistic. Azizah: What are you thoughts on main stream media perception of black relationships? Consir: Well, the media’s perception of black relationships is wanting the men (African centered men) to love our women as if they were white women. We fall in love with the white characteristics of a woman, the long straight hair, light skin, etc. And it programs us to look for that one beauty type in our women (African centered women), who come in all kind of varieties .So for example Valentines day , that comes from St. Valentine who is not of our culture, that’s not how we celebrate our women or how our women should celebrate our men. We get into wanting to Romanizes our women, well that’s out of Rome what about Africanizing our women? Azizah Nubia: Africanizing? What’s that? Consir: Well Africanizing is appreciating the woman for all she is worth. She is the creator of black men, she is the mother of our sons and daughters. She raises our nations and builds our communities and that’s something we should celebrate. Even the sisters, you need to celebrate your men. If your celebrating him out of Rome and you want to Romanize him your going to miss the whole concept of what an African man is all about. If we are just left with what main stream media tells what our relationships should be like. You get a picture of people living in the projects, single mothers, fathers being left out, fathers incarcerated. You get the picture of the black man not being able to provide for his family like he wants to, this leave s an image of him being less than or lazy by mainstream media. On the other hand you
Natural Woman Magazine
have your other races of men, who can keep steady jobs and provide for their families. And this is the what is fed to black women which puts a veil over their eyes preventing them from seeing the full potential of who we really are as black men. Azizah Nubia: A lot of times I think main stream media programs us to view each other negatively. I believe this prevents us from establishing holistic relationships. How can we replace these negative images to positive ones?
Consir: I think the positive image of the black man has never left, it has always been there. But when you are looking at it from a filtered lenses like you said the “programming”, you can’t see the positive image because you have been programmed to
www.asknaturalwoman.com 26
see things differently. For example you can see a black man simply chilling in a picture, but based on your programming your mind can come up with several different things about that man. So if your programmed negatively your only going to see negative things. And nothing from the picture is going to come out right.

When referring to sexual attraction, everything starts from the mind! As new research confirms, everything ends there! U.S. researchers announced that they had solved one piece of the mystery of what happens in the brain during sex by monitoring the activity of the female brain during an orgasm.
“Knowing the sequence of events from stimulation to orgasm allows us to see what parts of the brain become activated and in what order. If we can compare this to the brain activity in anorgasmic women, we can see at what point their orgasm gets blocked and work out whether it’s possible to get around that block, said Barry Komisaruk of the Rutgers University.
The research group from Rutgers University in New Jersey, using imaging machines, studied the brains of women during orgasm and found that different brain regions were activated depending on which body part was the source of sexual excitement.

10 Ways to Spice up your Sex Life Is your sex life a bit boring? Are you stuck doing the same routine over and over? Well check out these 10 spicy tips that will have you locked up in your bedroom all weekend.
1. Have sex on a regular basis. Don’t be above scheduling it into your week if it’s been awhile and it’s hard to initiate/make time for. 2. Talk dirty. You don’t have to get obscene for it to be sexy. If you start right off the bat trying to emulate what you hear in porn, you’ll feel ridiculous. 3. Mix it up. Take the time to make out and indulge in foreplay. SLOW everything down. Just because you already know each other’s bodies doesn’t mean you shouldn’t explore it as if for the first time. Give yourself an hour or two to play. 4. Oral Sex. Don’t skimp on it just because you’re past the “wooing” stage. Don’t just skip to intercourse. Have fun with oral sex first. You don’t need to stimulate your partner to COMPLETION . It doesn’t need to be a big deal. You can just tease and warm each other up. A good tip is to put a pillow underneath your pelvis so that he can more comfortably pleasure you. 5. Role-play: Click here to read a great article (not mine) that spells out how exactly to explore fantasy sexual role play. 6. Dress up. Sexy lingerie is great for special occasions and then also (little known secret) when you’re feeling bloated or shy about your body. 7. Tell a naughty story. This is a great option for when you’re not in the mood to be touched or have sex but he is. While he’s masturbating, you can whisper and moan a sexy story in his ear to provide him with visuals. Men love visual stimulation, hence, their love of porn. 8. Multiple positions. Talk about them ahead of time so you don’t get distracted and forget about the adventurous ones you want to try. 9. Different locations. I’m not gonna lie: I love my bed. It’s comfy. It’s got just the right amount of firmness and my sheets are soft. BUT having sex in different locations spices up the sex life. Men really respond to the variety. 10. Blow Jobs. It’s a classic for a reason. Do it as often as possible. The more spontaneous the better.

Mugwort – A Versatile Dreaming Herb
Blue Lotus – Mind Body Spirit Herb
Also called Artemisa Vulgaris, this long time staple in Europe is superior for treating stomach ailments and eliminating PARASITIC invaders. This herb often helps one heal while dreaming. Some users report having darker dreams that reveal hidden insights, allowing them to better know themselves and mend from past hurts and experiences. Sweet and floral in scent, Mugwort is excellent for use in essential oils, teas, and for its aromatic qualities during ceremonies and meditation practices.
A favorite used in yogic practices and meditation, the blue lotus is considered to be a source and possessor of the UNIVERSE’s highest sacred energies in Hinduism. However, this relaxing herb PROMOTES the mind body spirit connection as well as lucid dreaming states. This is also highly recommended for INSOMNIA sufferers by many holistic healers. Typically consumed by smoking, in elixirs, and steeped in teas, if you have trouble dreaming or find yourself frequently waking up in dreams, blue lotus, aka Nymphaea Caerulea, may help.
African Dream Bean – Master Spirit Connections Known to PROMOTE euphoric lucid dreaming states, Entada Rheedii, or African Dream Bean is used by a number of tribes and cultures around Asia, Australia, and India. Often used in magic and rituals to proved users good luck, many find that their dreams are so powerful and vivid and declare that spirit communications are more accessible. This dreaming herb is typically dried and smoked, but some people get results by eating the bean’s internal seeds.

Celastrus Paniculatus – The Elixir of Life While this dreaming herb may sound like a spell Harry Potter would use, this amazing gift from Mother Nature packs a powerful punch and facilitates more than lucid dreams. It’s known for PROMOTING longevity, sharpening the mind and memory, and it aids in concentration. This is perhaps why this herb is promoted to assist with ADD-type disorders, prevent epileptic seizures, and to aid in memory recollection in Alzheimer’s sufferers. Essentially, you benefit during the waking hours, and the herb keeps working while you sleep to fuel dream recollection!
Xhosa Dream Root – Vivid and Prophetic Dreams You may find this herb labeled as it’s technical name Silene Capensis or as ‘undlela zimhlophe‘, as it’s called by the Xhosa peoples of Africa. Noted as a ‘teaching plant’ and considered highly sacred, shamans traditionally use Xhosa dream root to promote lucid dream states in healers and other shamans during initiation ceremonies. If you aspire for more vivid and profound dreams or simply want to gain more universal insights from them, give this herb a shot – literally. You mix this in small amounts with water typically and consume it prior to sleeping. It also makes an INTERESTING tasting tea but it can be bitter, so the ‘shot’ form is recommended.
Wild Asparagus Root – Fly by Night
Reported to be SO effective at allowing one to fly in their dreams, many herbalists will advise against its use at all if you are not seeking to fly in your dream states. Also known as Asparagus Lucidus or Cochinensis, many Taoists use and recommend this herb for dream mobility, and reports have many users soaring through the skies and all across the universe and even into alternate realities and dimensions. Sweet and slightly bitter, most prefer to make a tea with this herb, and an additional ‘side-effect’ reported of regular wild asparagus root consumption is softer, more supple skin. Flying and skin benefits – ladies, this is YOUR dream herb!

good idea is to give yourself a ten-minute space just to close your eyes and tune into what direction feels best. Here’s a wee tip for you to try. Imagine that in front of you is a very large thermometer, it goes from zero to one hundred. Zero is the least positive and the nearer you get to a hundred the better and more positive it is. Lets say you are trying to decide on a new job offer, find yourself a quiet space and just sit comfortably closing your eyes keep your focus on the thermometer and ask the question e.g. should I take on this new job? Just watch how far up the mercury in the thermometer travels. The higher up it goes the better it is, if it doesn’t move much then you still have an answer. I’ve worked with my intuition all my life and taught others how to tap into it and make it work for them. It is so empowering to appreciate your own skills and feel connected with each and every sense after all, intuition is only an extension of the ordinary senses that we all have. Think about it, there must have been times when you “sensed” something was either right or wrong you went with it and were happy you did, this is called Clairsentience in my world. Women have use make for thousands of years the problem with make up a lot of the make up products used today are filled with toxic chemicals and ingredients. But did you know you can make your own make up from natural products that can find in your kitchen. Check out these 5 recipes.
Foundation
arrowroot powder (can also use cornstarch, but arrowroot works better)
cocoa powder
finely ground cinnamon powder
Mix ingredients until you get a shade close to your skin tone. Tip :If you want to make it a more solid base so that only a little sticks to the brush, use a few drops of essential oil or vodka to mix with the powder and push down in a compact. This will make it hard like a regular compact. Storage tips: You can then store in a jar or old powder container and use a brush to apply.
Natural Bronzer/Blush a base of arrowroot or cornstarch add cocoa powder and cinnamon to get a darker shade. Tip: You can also use dried beet root (in the dehydrator) or dried hibiscus flowers to add a pink tone which works well as long as you can very finely powder them. Natural Shadow Caution: Always be careful when using any products, even natural ones, near the eyes. You can mix up several colors of eye shadow
cocoa powder (brown shades)
Spirulina (green shades)
arrowroot (light shades).
Eye-liner Tiny bit cocoa powder mixed with coconut oil or a tiny dab or activated charcoal on a slightly damp brush. Caution: Be careful not to get either one in the eye. Storage: I store the eye shadow in an old powdered eye shadow container and apply with my finger or a very slightly damp brush. Tip: To make a smoother eyeliner, I mix equal parts of coconut oil and cocoa butter (about 1/2 ounce of each) and add about 1/2 tsp of activated charcoal to make a black eyeliner that is thicker. You can also do this with cocoa powder for a brown hue.
Natural Mascara
In a small bowl, few drops of Aloe Vera Gel
a couple drops of Vitamin E oil,
a pinch of activated charcoal
Storage: you could also make and store in an old mascara container or in a small jar and just clean the mascara wand between uses. I brush it on with a clean mascara brush. Tip: If you want to take the time to make a fancier recipe, my homemade mascara uses black mineral powder for amazing thickness and length.
