that it’s very different from when I wasn’t a mother and single now I feel purpose. Azizah: One of the things I loved about you in Love & Hip Hop Hollywood was your stance on choosing to give birth at home. What motivated you do make that choice?
Apryl Jones talks Motherhood, Business, & New Music Apryl Jones multi-faceted entertainer, mother of singer Omarion‘s son 2-year-old Megaa and daughter 15-month old A’mei is more than just a mom. She’s a mom that wants to inspire all women to create beautiful lives despite their circumstances. HHE had the opportunity to catch up with Apryl in her hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio. Where she hosted an Apryl Wine’s wine tasting event. In a very short but candid interview, Apryl opened up about motherhood and how her relationship with Omarion paused her music career. Azizah: Thank you for taking the time to talk to me. How does it feel being back in your hometown of Cincinnati? Apryl: Good, I haven’t been back here since my
Apryl: What inspired me was a documentary called “The Business of Being Born” by Ricki Lake. After watching her make her transition from hospital birth to home birth, I decided that a homebirth would be the best choice for me. Then I got a midwife who is still a dear friend to this day. She gave me the knowledge that I needed to be brave enough to birth at home.
grandmother passed away in 2010. It’s been 8 years, but it feels good to come and visit to catch up with friends and family.
Azizah: I thought it was really cool of you to use a platform like Love & Hip Hop Hollywood to choose a natural birth. Was that your intention?
Azizah: You have a lot of great things happening for you, a new wine line. Two beautiful babies, how do you manage to balance everything?
Apryl: My intention was to have the best birth experience for me and my baby. I think women should be able to choose birth experiences that make them comfortable, there is not just one way to birth.
Apryl: I’m a very raw and straight to the point kind of woman so when people ask me that I always say. I don’t know? How do you do it, I wake up and I don’t know how I do it, all I know is that I have to get it done. My babies are my motivation, I have to hustle for them. Having that mentality has helped me to able to get by, I have been able to create new wines and even write a book. It’s not about me anymore I have two babies I have to take care of now, it’s not just me. They have given me so much motivation
Apryl: Yes, going back. I stopped pursuing my music career for a while because of my relationship with Omarion. I was relying on him to help me with my music because he didn’t want me working a lot of people. So with having my children and Omarion and I breaking up, I am now at a place where I am ready to pursue music again. I’m ready to get back to being Apryl again. Azizah: You feel like you are at peace with things in your life. Would you say that’s true? Apryl: I am at peace. I’m happy and life is good.
Azizah: Okay, so you have a new wine line, you mentioned a new book, what else is in the works for Apryl Jones? Apryl: I’m working on a fashion collection for my children. I’m in the process of finishing my book. And I am going back to the music. Azizah: Going back to music?

Getting Down to the Heart of the Matter Why do African American women have the highest rates of heart disease in America? Is it our diets? Our genes? What if I told you it is because of how we feel and think? Quantum Physics has already proven that everything we experience in our lives is a direct response to how we feel (vibrate) and think (create). This includes the people, opportunities, and diseases. With a simple shift in our thinking we can improve our health faster then any medical modality could. In this article we will share with you why Heart Disease is created and how we can correct the problem by correcting ourselves. Heart disease is the No. 1 killer for all Americans, and stroke is also a leading cause of death. As frightening as those statistics are the risks of getting those diseases are even higher for African-Americans. Black women (49%) and Black men (44%) have higher rates of heart disease than White men (37%) and White women (32%). Now many factors contribute to these statistics, some believe the key to prevention lies with a
healthy diet and exercise. Although these physical preventions do help in keeping us heart healthy, lets look into some metaphysical ways we can eliminate heart problems for good. There is a saying that I have and that is What is felt on the inside reflects whats on the outside. In the world of metaphysics it is believed that every disease has a mental, emotional, and spiritual beginning. When it comes to heart disease on a metaphysical level it means long standing emotional problems, hardening of the heart. Belief in strain and stress. Your heart is the central power house of your body our electrical center the pumps blood to nourish all of our organs. On a metaphysical level it serves as the center for our feelings about love and security. If you look at the narrative of the “angry black woman that we have adopted as the black woman way of life. It is clear to why black women have the highest rates of heart disease on the planet.
The Heart Center
According to Ayurvedic medicine, the heart chakra lies at the center of the seven chakras, which governs
the physical, mental, and emotional activities and experiences of the individual. The heart chakra, holds the emotional functions of love, confidence, trust, as well as deep connection and compassion for other people, animals and the environment. When out of balance, individuals may experience vulnerability, loss of confidence, anxiety, emotional distress, and dependency. Emotional neglect can also cause a person to become bitter, insensitive and perhaps even cruel. Abusive emotional behavior is acted out not only with other people…..emotional neglect can lead to the abuse of animals, for instance, or a deep insensitivity to the needs of other forms of life including, the earth itself. Without a strong foundation of Love, fear, anger, resentment and regret can develop in its place. All these as well as loneliness, attachment, possessiveness, a broken heart etc., Can all lead to heart problems. Balance your Heart To heal the heart we have to start with letting love back into our lives and the first type of love you should be seeking to let in is your love for self. Your self love is key to your wellbeing How you love yourself dictates the kind of love you experience with world. Remember we have the power to heal ourselves and keep ourselves healthy. Keeping yourself healthy is the best way to show how much you love yourself. Psychologists and researchers have discovered that people who are able to express ‘love’ are healthier, tend to sick less and if they do, regain their health more quickly. Also they age more slowly, have better color, great skin, good posture and a healthy circulation. It is believed that thinking back to a ‘love’ moment creates interesting chemical changes in the body that balances the life flow in the body and brings peace to body and mind. DRINK PLENTY OF PURE SOFT WATER How much is plenty? It depends upon how much you weigh, you take your weight, divide it in half and that is how many ounces of water you need in a 24 hour period. Of course if you are working out in the hot sun and perspiring a lot you would need more. For example: you weigh 160 lbs. Half
of that is 80 so you need 80 ounces, which would be 10 eight ounce glasses. The type of water we need to drink is soft water, that is water that has no minerals, as the minerals in water are inorganic and are harmful to our health. Where as the minerals in food are organic and our body needs this type of minerals. Two types of water that have no minerals are distilled water and reverse-osmosis water. Alkaline or Kangan water is great too! BARE FEET ON THE SOIL EVERY DAY everything on this earth has an electrical frequency, the earth, the seeds, the plants animals, and the human body. Cancer cells have a different electrical frequency than normal cells. Our bodies can easily get off the electrical frequency that they are supposed to be on. How can we get it back on track? Very simply, by standing or walking bare foot in the soil. Wearing shoes is not a natural thing, although we need to protect our feet, as shoes insulate our body from the earth so it would be good to spend at least 10 minutes a day outside barefoot in the soil. GET PLENTY OF FRESH AIR Deep breathing of fresh outside negatively charged air, (the good kind), helps cleanse the lungs and increase circulation. Be sure to have plenty of fresh air in your bedroom as you sleep, keep a window open, even in the winter the window should be partially open. EXERCISE OUT OF DOORS Brisk Walking is a good form of exercise, but not jogging, as the impact of jogging is harmful to all the joints of the body. Bicycling and swimming are two other good exercises. Exercising in a gym is not ideal as there is no fresh air, its like exercising in a dirty shoe. The best piece of exercise equipment one can use is a regular or mini trampoline. By jumping on a trampoline you are exercising every-one of the trillions of cells in your body. Use it from one to three times daily for a minimum of 3 minutes or longer each time. Remember we have the power to heal ourselves if you or a loved one are suffering with this dis-ease and want to heal it naturally trust the power of your own being. Our body is a living healing instrument it can heal it self, but in order for that process to happen you must know thyself.

Dear AskAshlee, Man I am going through so much in my life right now! I won’t take up all of your time going into detail with every situation, but one. Two weekends ago I had sex with my brother’s friend under the influence of too much alcohol. This was the first time we had ever done anything like that and the next day we pretty much vouched to never discuss it and never act on it again. For more reasons than one, but most importantly I have a boyfriend and he has a girlfriend. My relationship is fairly new, only 4 months old but he has been with his girlfriend for two years. I really don’t know her personally so there were no “friend rules” broken on my end when it comes to that. Anyway, the problem is since then I have had sex with my boyfriend and now my “little mama” isn’t feeling too hot. I’m pretty sure I have some kind of STD or maybe just some kind of break out around my special area. How do I know who gave it to who? What if my boyfriend gave it to me? What if I gave him something? What if my brother’s friend gave it to me? Who do I blame? It was one night, one mistake and now I am just confused as to how I should bring this to his attention. I have gone to the doctor and I am waiting on the results, but I need to be prepared. Help me out. One Time

Directions: Grate your soap of choice with a cheese grater. Put your grated soap in a large pot with the water, coconut oil and glycerin. Heat on medium heat until all of the soap is dissolved. When the soap is dissolved the water will look like murky dish water Turn the heat off and cover overnight to set When you return to your soap it will be very thick and jelly like, use a mixer or wisk to mix the soap to a smooth consistency. You can add up to two cups of water to get it to the consistency you like ( I added one extra cup of water for my liking) You can then leave the soap for another12 hours to ensure it is the right thickness Use a funnel to put the body wash in an appropriate container (It makes a lot so you may need one container to store it and one to use in the bathroom ). to invest.” “The Human factor is more important than anything else.”
Get Up and to Work If you are spending your entire time binge-watching a new television series or scrolling through social media, when are you finding the time to accomplish your goals? One key factor in being successful is taking the time to get up and work towards your goals. We all have the ability to be great at what we do, but not everyone is great. Those who are great spent countless hours working on perfecting their craft and accomplishing their goals. Your greatness is already there, you just have to work to pull it out.
Be Practical We all have to start from somewhere, what holds a lot of people back is the thinking that they have to have lots of money to start an idea or business. When all you really need is to know what your resources are. “The main reason start-up companies go out of business is because of over-funding. They go out and borrow too much, instead of taking $500 to start up an FB page they spend $10,000 on a website.” “Mark Zuckerburg started with one friend, I started FUBU with one hat.” Start with what you have and build from there.
Take time for yourself We can spend so much time working for others that we forget to take the time to take care of ourselves. In Daymond’s book Rise and Grind, he interviewed 15 accomplished business professionals on their secrets to being successful. During John’s Breakfast Club interview, he shared how important it is to make time for yourself every day. The first 90 minutes of your day should be reserved for you.
Don’t Get Comfortable This is an essential ingredient to being successful. Never get too comfortable with where you are in life, get in the habit of mastering new things. Successful people take risks, when you get too comfortable you do not look for new opportunities. In the words of Anais Nin “The day will come when it’s more painful to remain tight in a bud than taking the risk to bloom.”
Be Productive Productivity is key, staying productive ensures that you are working towards your goals. One of the keys to success is working smart, not hard. There is a difference between busy and productive. Being busy doesn’t always mean you’re being productive. Being productive is less about time management and more on managing your energy. It is the business of life. Stay Motivated Motivation is all about purpose, staying motived about your goals will ensure that you stick with them. What motivates you to want to achieve your goals? If you are lacking motivation find ways to help you be inspired. Are you likable? In our world where technology is making our phones and homes smarter being human can set you apart. If you do not have a good personality you can miss out on a lot of opportunities just because people didn’t like you. When asked what does he look for when he is about to invest in a person or business. John responds “ I have to like the person before I decide
6 Investment Tips for Entrepreneurs
Business Tip for the Natural Woman – How to Get the Most Out Of Public Relations
By: Nahamani Yisrael The World Wide Web has effectively reshaped how we interact with both individuals and businesses alike. Living and doing business in the information age is unique and it often seems as if the rules keep changing. Nearly every aspect of our lives has become intertwined with others through a mobile device and wireless internet connection. It is no surprise that the internet has also shifted how we view and use public relations to enhance our businesses’ brand identity and engage key stakeholders. In an effort to assist our readers with leveraging the resources of public relations, we solicited the advice of a public relations expert currently working in the PR field. Will Jones, Public Relations and Social Media Specialist at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center in Cincinnati, Ohio, was kind enough to share his perspective with our readers so that you can maximize the im-
pact of each media engagement. Will having spent over 13 years working at Radio One as a Marketing Professional knows the struggle journalist face with impeding deadlines and an overflow of businesses looking to garner attention for their business and brand. Will’s advice for Natural Woman readers hoping to leverage free publicity as part of their marketing mix is to focus the message on the most important and relevant chunks of information. In his opinion many beginners struggle because they attempt to be and do everything. This dilutes their message and makes their efforts less effective. Will encourages entrepreneurs to approach each media engagement in the same manner that one approaches an elevator pitch. Your message should be concise and straight to the point. Similar to an elevator pitch, one must consider its audience and what those individuals need to know in order to make the decision whether or not to publish your
story. If your press release is intriguing the journalist can easily make the assumption that their readers will want to know more. Similar to an elevator pitch, the amount of time that you have to grasp the recipient’s attention is limited and thus the links provided should take the reader directly to the information they need, the pages should load quickly and they should work well on a variety of devices. The use of public relations to highlight an upcoming product launch, event or community engagement is ideal, but there are also times when public relations is needed to address a potentially negative situation. Will’s advice to protect your brand image is to “Be timely! Assess the situation and get in front of it.” Being upfront allows you to control the conversation and express your honest intentions. As a leader, admitting that you’re human and not infallible makes you more relatable and approachable. Giving journalist the information they need to engage their audience with your brand is an essential element in converting journalist into brand ambassadors. Online resources such as informative videos, inspirational social media posts and engagements with your customer base providing followers with more than a list of services offered. These elements should shed light on the business owner’s Whys: Why you are passionate about your work and Why the reader should do business with your company. “Your website should work as a sales funnel, not an online brochure. An engaging website will keep your online visitors coming back. Strategic communications [aka public relations] helps classify you as an expert in your field resulting in an increase in the amount of money with which your online visitors are willing to part. Done correctly, your site can propel your business forward, however a poorly executed website equates to a negative public image. A bad website does more harm than good.” stated Nahamani Yisrael founder of Nahamani.org an Internet Marketing Firm that works with business and non-profit organizations to enhance their public image. “Simply having a website is not nearly enough; your site must be aesthetic, informational and easy to navigate. It is important to understand that your website is speaking on behalf of your brand giving viewers an initial impression of your organization. Your web presence must tell your story through images and words. Your site should be able to stand on its own as well as supporting your public image.” adds Ms.
Yisrael. All too often business owners lose potential business because they chose to design their own website, in lieu of hiring a professional designer. Many do so as a means to cut cost, but do not realize that they may be cutting revenues as well. Others fall victim to deceptive advertising that convinces them that they can build a professional website in just a few clicks. When in actuality the skillset required to build a professional web presence takes time to master. Considering that your website is often the first impression of your brand image seen worldwide, it is well worth the investment to ensure that your site meets the needs of the audience. If you are serious about promoting your brand and need assistance managing your organization’s public image through the creation of a web presence, hiring a professional communications firm is essential. Firms such as Nahamani.org can help your company ensure that the message conveyed through your website aligns with the information that is submitted to media outlets. To learn more about Nahamani.org service offerings, feel free to reach out to proprietor Nahamani Yisrael directly by phone at (513) 917-3959 or by email at ny@ nahamani.org.
