Break the Chains that are binding you from living your most authentic life. With this new issue of Natural Woman Magazine we wanted to give off a message to all women that, it is time we remove all of the self and external afflictions that make us think we are not worthy of good things. We are all amazing creatures with so much potential; our unique gifts, talents and skills are needed in the world today. The world is a cold place and the only thing, in my opinion that can turn it around is the loving touch of a woman. I hope you will be inspired and begin to let go of the things that stop you from living your dream. Maya Angelou said that, “There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside of you. It is time that you start telling your story and becoming Photography by Gidget Hunter Allen of GIDGETimages the woman YOU were destined to be. Q: A:
Natural Woman what can I do to alleviate lower back pain, I do not want to take pain killers I would prefer to deal with it naturally.
Thank you Tina for question and what a good question it is. Everything on the Physical plane is a manifestation of something on the Metaphysical plane. The signs and symptoms that are apparent on the Physical plane lead us to inquire, more deeply into ourselves as energetic and spiritual beings. Pain killers may numb the pain temporarily, but to get to the root of the problem you must tackle the energetic/ emotional cause. As above so below is my motto The Lower Back represents support; financial support, emotional support of family and friends, and support of God or the Universe. The Kidneys are located in this area and Kidney dysfunction results in Fear/Fright/Phobias. My advice would be looking into healing modalities that will help you alleviate the fear that is causing the pain. Natural Woman Magazine www.asknaturalwoman.com

It is my opinion that most people in America tend to be wasteful and often neglect the abundance we have. Most do not think about ‘lack’ until its gone. We tend to be content with certain amenities and conveniences that are only dreamed of in some third world countries. We often view water, electricity, and convenient stores, not only as a necessity in our culture but as entitled amenities. Unfortunately, misuse of them will cause serious destruction in the long run. We often neglect to turn off the faucets while brushing our teeth, and flushing the toilet uncontrollably. Water seems to be abundant, however, due to climate changes, natural disasters, pollution from oil spills and debris, our water is not fit for drinking let alone bathing. of milk, and 16,000 liters to make one pound of beef. What color is your diet? Eating a variety of colors for optimal health
Likia Christine
We all know that we need to eat our veggies to be healthy, right? But did you know that it is extremely important to eat ALL colors of fruits and veggies in order to receive all of the nutrition that Mother Nature has to offer? Stepping out of your comfort zone, and grabbing an eggplant could save you from a heart attack. Cooking tomatoes will release more lycopene, which is a powerful cancer fighting agent. The Vitamin A in orange fruits and veggies can save your eyesight, and reduce the risk of macular degeneration. Knowledge is certainly power. We do not have to leave our health strictly in the care of someone else. We have the control and the power to keep ourselves healthy, by eating the right foods, exercising, and managing stress through meditation and yoga. In the pages to follow, you will find in-depth information on the nutrients in each color of fruits and veggies, and the benefits of each. You will also be informed of different ways of ingesting these power packed nutrients! I grew up knowing to eat my green veggies, but I never realized the relevance of purple, orange, red, and yellow too! There are endless ways of combining the different varieties of fruits and vegetables, making delicious and healthy meals that are inexpensive and easy to make.

Blue/Purple The blue/purple hues in foods are due primarily to their anthocyanin content. The darker the blue hue, the higher the phytochemical concentration. Anthocyanins are antioxidants that are particularly heart healthy and may help support healthy blood pressure. The anthocyanins that give these fruits their distinctive colors may help ward off heart disease by preventing clot formation. They may also help lower risk of cancer. (**blueberries are considered to have the highest antioxidant activity of all foods.)

Green Do you know which color of vegetables is the most nutritious and beneficial in our food supply? Here is a hint: Studies show that Americans eat the least of this color vegetable vs. the others. The answer comes as no surprise: dark green, leafy vegetables. Green foods are crucial to our health for a plethora of reasons including their role in strengthening the immune system, cancer prevention, improved blood circulation, blood purification, lowering cholesterol, promotion of healthy intestinal flora, increased energy, detoxification through improved liver, gall bladder functions, kidney function, and even clearing congestion. Eating green vegetables (and fruits) provide a load of nutrients that will help to keep your body healthy. The natural plant pigment chlorophyll colors green fruits and vegetables. The green foods represented those foods rich in isothiocyanates, which induce enzymes in the liver that assist the body in removing potentially carcinogenic compounds. Cruciferous veggies such as broccoli and cabbage contain the phytochemicals indoles and isothiocyanates, which may have anticancer properties. Green vegetables are excellent sources of vitamin K, folic acid, potassium, as well as carotenoids and omega-3 fatty acids. Diets high in potassium are associated with lowering blood pressure, and there is an inverse relationship between cruciferous vegetables and cancer, especially colon and bladder cancers. In addition, sulforaphane, a phytochemical present in cruciferous vegetables, was found to detoxify cancer-causing chemicals before they do damage to the body.
So eat your greens for optimal health! Natural Woman Magazine www.asknaturalwoman.com

Interviewed by: Tammarah Overton Daliah Ferguson is founder of Homegrown Naturals of CT. Homegrown Naturals of CT is a hair care and skin care company. Her mission is to create the best products to address healthy hair and skin care for people everywhere. Tammarah O.: Tell Natural woman Magazine how Home grown naturals got started?
Daliah: It all started back in 2011 when my daughter showed me a picture of someone that had natural hair. At the time, we both had relaxers and she was getting tired of the maintenance of her hair as well as her scalp burning. When she showed me that picture the thought of going natural never crossed my mind at the time. Seeing that she wanted to change from wearing straight relaxed hair and become natural it inspired me. So we started that transition together. Making that change allowed me to tap into some of the skills I didn't know I had. I am a creative person, but I didn't know how much creativity I had in me. Going natural made me want to create a support system for women, men and children who wanted to embrace their Natural Woman Magazine www.asknaturalwoman.com
natural selves. I just wanted to create a positive community for them to do that. Everything else just flourished from there. Tammarah O. So it is safe to say you’re pursuing your passion? Daliah: Absolutely. The more I learn about different hair types and the things you need for your hair and body. Yes, this is what I love doing. I feel like this is what God has instructed me to do. Tammarah O.: Did you have any fear and obstacles that you had to overcome? Daliah: I do not have any fears. I just have to do what I have to do, to stay motivated and keep positive people around me. I feel 40
that my brand is different from any other brand. I mainly concentrate on what it is that I have and focus on building that. Even though the industry right now is so competitive with different products, fashion, and hair styles. I just Focus on what Home Grown Naturals of Connecticut is doing. It's an intimate company, and I love having the interaction with my customers that I have. We make all our products with love, so that tends to stand out in the community I have.

By Zephanie Garrett Have you ever wanted to know what men are really thinking? Well, we unlocked that code and surveyed a lot of men. We asked them questions about women. These are the factors these men had in common when they expressed their thoughts.
You Accept What You Don't Want Women are looking for a certain kind of lifestyle. However, women are finding it hard to marry a man with the lifestyle that they desire. Therefore, some women settle for less. They say women know what kind of a man they want and how they want to be treated, but seem to accept the opposite of their desires.
Your Expectations Natural Woman Magazine www.asknaturalwoman.com
The high standards you have can be unrealistic. You can't want men to do everything in a relationship. Some men said that women have an ideal of a knight in shining armor complex. Seemly, believing a man should take care of them like a father would take care of a daughter. No man wants a girl in marriage. He wants a woman to be his wife. Men also want women who can maintain their own lives. Your Independent
Women were becoming more powerful and confident of their own abilities they have become individuals and not helpmates. Naturally, a woman should be a helpmate for the right man. Women have gotten so use to the failures of men they don't want to commit or assist them to go the distance in a relationship. 1. Options for those Naturalistas wanting a fresh new look. For this spring, I see a trend in combo up do styles. That's cornrows or flat twist styled with twist outs or pompodours, using all natural hair. A little (or a lot) of extension can be added for length or drama. These styles can be worn conservatively, casually or with a few adjustments it can become an unforgettable style for the bride. Because these styles can be worn using all natural hair or with extension, they're perfect for transitioners.
or do the same to one-half.
3.When trying to achieve a particular shape, the easiest way to do this is to start with a stylist that can give you a good cut. This pretty much determines the outcome of your style. Depending on the style you're attempting to achieve, a rod set, paying close attention to the rod size and sectioning, (the smaller the rod the tighter the curl), can give the illusion of a desired 'heart shaped' or tapered look. 5. A textured look can be achieved after a big chop by getting a rod set or twist out. This elongates your 'fro' and you only need about and inch to an inch and a half to do this. It requires patience and agile fingers, but it can be done. If all else fails contact your trusted Natural Stylist.
6. Some other great protective styles for transitioners, other than cornrow/flat twist combos, twist outs, mentioned above, are nondamaging professionally done extension styles. Two of my most popular techniques are Interlock and Tree Braiding. Interlock (also called lacing) is essentially a strand by strand braided-in weave. If your transitioning and want to achieve the natural curl heart shaped bobs, funky fros, this can be achieved in 3hrs using quality human hair, while your hair is uncompromised and protected in cornrows underneath. If you prefer a little more versatility, the TreeBraids are individual micro-sized braids, that provide the look of more hair(your desired texture, curly,

7. The best natural styles start with healthy hair, once you've determined the condition of your hair you can then decide what it needs most. For instance, if you're experiencing excessive breakage, a protein treatment may be what your hair needs. The basics would consist of a good sulfate-free shampoo, a good conditioner, regular deep conditioning treatments and daily moisturizer. Shea butter infused with essential oils are great, and conditioning mist are great for wash n go's. One of the common mistakes is not getting your ends trimmed regularly, this is very important for the maintenance of healthy hair, and has a significant affect of the look those defined curl patterns. 8. Design Essentials has a wonderful curl stretching cream that's great for and maintaining defined curl patterns. Elongating your tresses can be achieved by setting your hair in two strand twist, nubian knots or flat twist.
