Women’s Empowerment 2013
Wordz from the Editor This issue is dedicated to Women’s Empowerment, with every theme that we choose for our issues in Natural Woman Magazine somehow I am always tested by the theme. This issue has been no different, from shooting 3 cover shoots, pushing back release dates, to rescheduling interviews, not to mention the added help from Mercury in Retrograde. This was definitely a test for me to remember to stay grounded and balance. As women we love to give and sometimes we can give so much that we forget to cater our inner spirit. In the midst of our journeys as mothers, wives, rulers, healers, creators we must remember to rest and take time for ourselves. We are special too and as much as we like to take care and cater to everything outside of us, we have to remember to nurture and love the very thing that gives us the power to be who we are. This Women’s Empowerment theme has shown me how important all of the women in my life are to me. From my mother, daughters, grandmothers, aunts, cousins, friends, each and every woman that has come into my life has shaped me into the being of light that I am. Whether the encounters were good or bad they all had a purpose in life and I am forever grateful for the experience. It is vital that you EMPOWER yourself with Love, we have a service to fulfill a purpose to understand. Our world needs our nurturing and healing energies right now. Lets be EMPOWERED to live our highest life, to live up to our Highest Truths lets make our lives so special and amazing that the world has no choice but to change. We have that POWER. I dedicate this Issue to my Late Great-Grandfather Rev. Mozelle Miree he made his transition back into Spirit while putting this issue together. It is such a honor to be a part of his lineage his life has been a inspiration to my own. I remember my mother telling me a story about his earlier days and how he was born a sickly child and how the doctors told him he would not live a long life. And one night he prayed to God and said "please God, don't let me die a young boy. Let me live to see the beauties of your earth "He lived to be on this earth for 105 years. That story alone has always given me faith that your prayer do come true.
Be EMPOWERED TO BE LIGHT! Peace,
Azizah Nubia BE EMPOWERED TO SHINE YOUR LIGHT IN THE WORLD!!! Rev.Mozelle Miree February 22, 1908– March 15, 2013 8

Do It Yourself
DIY~Fruit Snacks My kids are always hungry so when I found this awesome and easy recipe for DIY fruit snacks, I think I was more excited than they were. You only need 4 ingredients and a special silicone mold to form them. If you can find a cute mold, that is shaped small like fruit snacks that would be great. As always check your local dollar store for items like this. Try this easy recipe and your kids (and you) will love it !! Fruit Snacks 2 1/2 cups strawberries or any fruit of your choice 1/2 cup lemon juice 2 TBSP honey (or agave nectar)
By Isis Swink
1/2 cup gelatin You can use fresh or frozen fruit in this recipe. Put the fruit and lemon in a saucepan on medium-low heat until the fruit starts to soften. You can use a handheld blender to puree the fruit, or pour it all into a blender. Set aside to cool for about 5 minutes. Stir in the honey (or agave) . Whisk in the gelatin a little at a time so it doesn’t clump. Once thoroughly mixed, pour into silicone mold. Refrigerate for 1 to 2 hours to let it set. Remove and pop the fruit snacks out the mold. Enjoy !!

Breakfast is said to be one of the most important meals of the day. With a global shift in eating more of a natural diet, the typical American diet does not seem to cut it any more. Bacon, sausage, eggs, grits, hash browns, waffles & pancakes are no longer viewed as healthy so I wanted to share with you a much better option for breakfast that will leave you feeling light and energized. Its even fun recipe to have your little helpers assist

Oranges: Vitamin c in oranges is an excellent nutrient that fights cancer. Another advantage is that the peel can also fight cancer with added benefits of lowering your cholesterol and keeping your blood pressure at the normal rate.
Ginger: Ayurveda gives ginger the status of a virtual medicine chest. That’s because this wonder spice has time-tested digestion-friendly properties, in addition to its numerous other health benefits. In India, ginger is liberally used in daily life. Ginger-infused chai is a household favorite, and it’s grandma’s antidote of choice for battling cold and flu. Lemons: are acidic to the taste, but are alkaline-forming in the body. In fact they are one of the most alkalineforming foods; this makes them great for balancing a highly acidic condition in the body. Mango: Research has shown antioxidant compounds in mango fruit have been found to protect against colon, breast, leukemia and prostate cancers. These compounds include quercetin, isoquercitrin, astragalin, fisetin, gallic acid and methylgallat, as well as the abundant enzymes. White Grapes: Due to its eminent therapeutic value, grapes can be used for cure of asthma. In addition to it, the assimilatory power of grapes is also higher. It increases the moisture present in lungs.
Carrots: Many studies shown that eating carrots may help lower the risk of breast cancer, lung cancer and colon cancer. Also, it is believed that regular consumption of carrots reduces cholesterol levels.

For the samosa filling 1 cup courgette (zucchini), peeled 3 tablespoons water 1 cup sunflower seeds 1 teaspoon dark miso 1 tablespoon lemon juice 1 clove fresh garlic, minced 2 teaspoons fresh ginger, minced 2 tablespoons garam masala 1/4 teaspoon turmeric 8 sun-dried tomato halves 1/2 teaspoon salt - Grind all ingredients in a food processor, leaving some texture to the mixture. - Add the following ingredients and pulse* in: 1/2 cup tightly-packed spinach, chopped small 2 sliced spring onions (green onions) 1/4 cup diced tomatoes 1/4 cup coriander (cilantro), finely chopped 1/2 cup peas *Pulsing in done by switching the on/off switch several times in short bursts, so to chop the ingredients, leaving plenty of texture. Some food processors actually have a pulse button.
To Assemble Step 1 – Cut the wrappers into strips approximately 7cm by 25cm, and fold over the corner of one end. Steps 2, 3 & 4 – Fold the pointed end created by the first fold over as in step 4. Step 5 – You will now be able to open the wrapper up into a cone. Step 6 – Fill with the mixture. Step 7 – Tuck the corner in so it doesn’t stick out. Steps 8, 9 & 10 – Start folding the remaining part of the wrapper around so it forms that familiar triangle shape. Steps 11 & 12 – Wet the remaining corner of the wrapper and fold into place to seal the samosa. Step 13 – The completed samosa. *The samosas can be eaten as they are or can be returned to the dehydrator for as long as you like. I like to do this as they will be warm and ready to eat in a few hours 19

One of the many mind changing beliefs that I have instilled into my being is that we all have a divine path to follow we have a purpose to fulfill. On my journey to understand the highest meaning of my life ,I have learned that we live our own life. We are apart of everything and everything is apart of us, but we have our own path to walk. In my fields of expertise I have come across many great women & men who have touched my life in powerful ways. All of them different, some live happy wonderful lives and some live the most unhappiest but they all had apart in shaping me into the woman I am. Just as I am helping shape yours. We all have purpose we mean something to someone. We agreed to be there for one another to help guide each other along our own journey. I get so much out of life by understanding that, it allows me to look outside the ego and view everything in my life as an experience to help me get closer to who I am at my core. Pure Goddess. The women in this piece have shaped me which gives me ever more reason to believe that Natural Woman Magazine is apart of my Divine path. Each one of these beautiful women are powerful and so different. They all had that same nudge we all experience, that curiosity to go within to create a better way, to live their highest life. To experience heaven on Earth and to help their fellow sistars along they way. I hope these remarkable women touch you in away they have inspired me. Your path may different from anything you have ever seen, but know its your own unique way to understanding why you’re here. -Azizah Nubia 23

The Heart Holds the Who
Queen Code
With Moseley Knox-Brunson
“Unlock your destiny and be the Queen you were meant to be” - Moseley Knox-Brunson Written By: Azizah Nubia
Molesey Knox-Brunson Beauty Queen , author, mentor and speaker. Created the Queen Code, “we all have a locked code deep within us, and once you unlock iyour destiny and be the Queen you are meant to be, your life shifts. “ “I have been there I know what it is like to feel the frustration of living below your potential. “I wanted to break free and be the woman I envisioned on the inside. Then one day three years ago I had my breaking point. I had a revelation that put me on the path of 24
Fulfilling my destiny.” Touching lives along the way Moseley is the true testament that if you follow your heart it will lead you where you want to go. “The heart holds the who”, is how she phrased it. “You have to follow your heart if you want true happiness.” The Queen Code is a movement of unlocking the codes within our dna, to activate or higher purpose. “A tree has a code in it that tells it to grow into a big beautiful tree.”

on this planet has a code in it that
my family supported me and I had a lot of love, and that was it. At time as a child I felt can active whatever that thing may be to its like people around me did not understand highest potential. The same goes for all women too, we all have a Queen Code we all me. I had no one I could tell my dreams to are destined to be great. Only if you choose to that would take me seriously. I did not have anyone that gave me any advice I was lookactivate it. The Queen Code will do just that. ing for. And at times I use to get really sad Azizah Nubia: How has life prepared you for about that and think well if I had this where what you do now? would I be now? With the other person , it was always about competing with me and bringing out my greatest potential that I knew I was capable of. Another defining moment was when I was 18 when I left home to go to college. I call that my year of freedom, because I was free to explore. I was free from my beautiful mother who always does her motherly thing “ don’t do that or your going to hurt yourself”. I was free to really do my thing and explore what life had to offer. I did my studies of course . Another major defining moment was my senior year in college I was entering into law school studying for my LSAT , and I had a vision of being on a stage talking to a sea of women. I knew from the vision I was not an attorney which was hard for me because up until that moment I always had a plan for my life. I did not like not knowing, but what I soon discovered was it is in the unknowing that we truly grow. The path to your higher self , your greatest potential your not going to always know that path. To me being a attorney was a big vision but it was not my path. I had to understand that, that was not my calling. That was major for me because with that I really began that conscious journey of awakening to the fact that their was something more for me to do. That was 2004 fast-forward to 2009 another defining moment in my life I was when I got to the point of being on the path for 4 years. Still not where I wanted to be, I still did not know what I was doing wrong. Frustrated, I had my hands in so many things trying to find 26
myself I was feeling very insecure because I had abandoned my plan to become a lawyer to pursue business and own my own company and nothing was working out. I had some family and friends telling me I should’ve just went to law school. At that point I totally surrendered , and it was at that point that I truly saw my purpose, at that moment I was given instructions to write my first book. That’s when everything started happening for me. Azizah Nubia: Where did those instructions come from, was it some kind of deity, guide, spirit? Moseley: Yeah absolutely , in 2009 that was what I call the great awakening. When I surrendered I was broken, many times when we are broken its because we have been trying to do it our way and we’ve reached our rope. And we’re like okay God what do I do? (she laughs) We get broken when we do not listen to the truth in our lives. But when this happens we are finally ready , now the real journey can begin. I asked God how can I get this big vision out my heart and into my life. My dreams are so big I could see it so what am I doing wrong? And in a flash I heard this voice say everything you have been through up to this point write it all down. Your about to go to a new place your life is about to go from good to great. Write your book. That voice is what I hold onto that keeps me going.
www.asknaturalwoman.webs.com
Women’s Empowerment 2013
So anytime I question what I’m doing I can always remember that I heard that voice. Azizah Nubia: Are you living your passion? Moseley: Absolutely , when you live your passion it’s a layer of more and more. When your in the midst of uncovering your passion, you soon discover your higher passion, then you uncover your highest passion and so on and so on. When I look back at the young woman I was 4 or 5 years ago, and look at myself now. We are two different women I still have a lot of compassion and empathy for her, when I look into 5 years from now I will be different again. The difference comes from how much higher I go into my passion and everyday I go higher and higher. Azizah Nubia: What advice could you give our readers, so they too can live their highest passion? 27
Moseley: First ,BE YOU just simply be you. I heard Oprah say one time when she first started her show, how her producers would worry about the competition and she said she would never worry about the competition .She just simply became more of who she was. And that’s the power of authenticity it cannot be overstated. The more ME I become the more things start to happen , they happen faster. I do not apologize for being me. As women one of the things that blocks our transformation is that we try to please everyone. We want people to like us, not that its anything wrong with that but, it ca be very limiting. Sometimes we are afraid to speak our truth, one of the ways you unlock your Queen Code is to speak your truth. So if we are afraid to speak our truth then we will be in a place of darkness, depression, overwhelming, fear, anger, feeling like the world is our shoulders. The most POWERFUL things you can do is follow your heart, in this society we are not taught to follow our hearts we are taught to lead with logic and have a rational mind. People may say we should live our dreams but in reality we are taught to go to school, go to college, get a job, get married, not saying anything is wrong with that, but what if your heart says something else? Your Heart will never lead you astray the Heart holds the Who if you ever want to find out who you are follow your heart.

Women’s Empowerment 2013
I moved to Nashville
when I was 17 to go to school at Fisk University and that was were I was introduced to the Black Power Movement there I leaned how to take pride in being a black woman and my history. Then I began learning about African Spirituality while at Fisk. After two babies, marriage and a divorce I graduated from Fisk with honors. Actually the day before I graduated I became a Devotee of the Orisha Tradition. I got married again and with the conception of my third child I began to look into home school option. It was when my oldest daughter came home reciting Hail Mary that was when I realized that I can’t have my children being indoctrinated by my oppressors traditions. So I resigned from my job working at the Department of Human Services and decided to do home school full– time. I had no support, everyone around me felt that it was a foolish move to make. I followed my Ori and began creating my own curriculum which led to me unschooling.
My third love after writing is lecturing . I have lectured and conducted workshops some here and in the U.S. some over seas. I do spiritual consultations as a Priestess of Oshun ,its away for me to help people listen to the voice of their higher self. A lot of times when we are on the journey of life we can get so caught up in the world that we can’t hear our higher self or we can have so many negative voices in our head that are from other people that it can be hard to hear what our higher self is wanting us to do. When this happens our ancestors would seek priest or priestess. A consultation is not saying that I know something you do not know its just a method of reaffirming something you already know to be true of yourself. I also have a un-schooling home school program for parents out there who want to instill a firm foundation of African concepts. I provide consultations and curriculums to better assist the needs of family . Lastly I do holistic and wellness consultations for those people who need to have reaffirmed the voice and the spirit of their own physical body. Those are the main components of my business.
Azizah Nubia: What are some projects your working on now? OlaOmi: When I first got into the Orisha tradition my family was so against it. They had no understanding about African spirituality they would tell me all kind of things, like I was going to hell, I was worshipping the devil. So they inspired me to write my first book, Ona Agbani: The Ancient Path: Understanding And Implementing The Ways Of Our Ancestors I wrote it so people could have a way of explaining African spirituality to their families. The second book that I wrote is called S'Otito~Be Truth: 18 Lessons In West Afrikan Spirituality, it explains how to live a Afrikan life in modern time.

Aziza Nubia: What about those people dealing with the fear of embracing their African ancestry?
Azizah Nubia: What Advice do you have for those of us who want to embrace our Ancient Culture but face opposition from relatives or close friends? OlaOmi: It takes time. For me it took a long time I had to distance myself from my family for a while ,so I could get strong enough in my commitment to who I am to be able push back the negativity they would bring to me. As African people we have to be honest about the amount of self hatred that we have , and the amount we have in our family. Then you realize that’s what your dealing with, self hate that has been programmed into the mind of your family. But when you can show them how beautiful our culture is and how positive it is, that’s when you know your winning. That’s when you begin to make the changes in your linage that you were here to make. So live your life be as positive as you can, do not argue because your not going to win. Let them believe what they think until you can show them what's different.
34
OlaOmi: Fear is something each person will have to learn to overcome themselves. If you do not learn your history and understand it you will have a hard time overcoming the fear. You have to ask yourself how far are you willing to go for the fulfillment of your destiny. How far are you wiling to go to get what you were born to have? And once you realize you will go to any lengths to fulfill your destiny that’s when you loose any kind of fear. Because then, you know you will have to push through each obstacle you face anyway. Realize it makes a lot of sense for the slave master to have taught us to be afraid of our tradition. Think about the fact that the priest of Shango in Ancient Yourba Land knew of the herbs and minerals of the land that could make lightening strike a building. And these were the same people who were brought to the America’s as slaves . Think about how many plantations that would’ve been burnt down. Think about how many sugar cane fields or cotton fields that could’ve been struck down because of that. What else could the slave master do with that, then tell us “that’s terrible, that’s something you should be afraid of.” Because its terrifying to him, because it strikes fear in his heart. So now that we have come to the mindset of identifying to the slave master, it makes complete sense to why you are so afraid of it. Is it powerful? Yes it’s the most powerful. Is it something you can do damage with? Of course, anything that is that powerful you can do damage with. That’s in addition to doing something positive with it too. So if you can’t do any damage with it ,its not that powerful, just like any herb you take that’s good for you. If you take too much of it , it can kill you. The same for water if you drink too much of it ,you will vomit. Anything powerful has a opposite side, its polarity. Another fear people have is accountability,

because the truth of the Universe is if you out in the world acting a fool , you are going to have to pay for acting a fool. It’s no easy breeze in the Universe , If your acting a fool you got to reap whatever it is you sown from that foolish action. There is no part in the Universe were you can go and ask for Forgiveness and your stupidity gets swept under the rug. That’s not how it works . There are also people out there who are well acquainted with the tradition and stay away because they know how much respect one must have when it come to our spirituality It’s a type of Power that we carry among us as African people, its really not nothing to play with. It’s the very thing that sustains this society we live in. It is the basis of all the creativity in this society , it’s the basis of all spirituality in the world. We walk around with it everyday taking it for granted, doing nonsense and foolishnesses with it .Look at all of the billions of dollars of spending power we have. We have that much spending power and we are the poorest people in the United States. People are still afraid because there mind is the mind of their slave master. They haven’t waken up to the fact that they have their own mind.

“A whisper through the Night led me to Abundance in the Morning” A interview with Mignon Francois from the Cupcake Collection by Azizah Nubia Photography By Isis Swink
“I woke at 3:17a.m. and God told me to bake cupcakes”. That was the answer Mignon Francois received one night when God woke her up out her sleep. “That was the solution to our problem.” The Francois family created one of Nashville, Tennessee #1 Bakery in town The Cup Cake Collection. My visit to the cupcake collection was filled with laughter and good conversation as I got to know more about Mignon in our face to face interview in the bakery. “We lived here”, Mignon told me while we walked into the home turned bakery . “We were struggling we did not know 36

That’s when I heard the voice, at 3:17 a.m. It woke me up out of my sleep. It was very clear it told me to bake cupcakes. The funny thing is I can’t bake, I burn bread, but I obeyed the word and we decided to do it. Mignon: Wonderful, my entire family is involved, this business is the start of many expansion for my family. Even our youngest son

Mignon: Every morning when we open we all hold hands and pray that every customer who walks through our doors are touched. I just want to help people. When people taste our cupcakes and are able to smile and be happy with something we made, without it breaking their wallets. That’s what makes us different, its not what’s in the batter it’s the love in it. Azizah Nubia: Are you living your passion Mignon: Yes, I am and this leads to many more opportunities.

Very down to earth Anita’s energy was so inviting during our skype interview it was a delight conversing with her. She reminded me that everyday is a new day filled with many great possibilities if you allowed yourself to let go and move with the flow.
Anita’s life has been a life long journey of her understanding who she is. I asked her how was it like growing up she said “ I grew up very confused I did not fit in anywhere. I grew up Catholic , but I was always drawn to ritual.”
“I am a certified Alissa Cohen raw food teacher, also with a diploma in Living Foods Nutrition. I have training in meditation, spirit release therapy, mediation and intercultural therapy. As a inter-faith minister Anita has many responsibilities that she takes very seriously. One of those responsibilities are bringing her African Spirituality to the forefront.
“Some people may frown to the thought of ancestral worship because it deals with the spirit world, but like I was told by a great teacher. When drawing on the energies of spirit draw on the energies of Light” Anita says after I asked about how others view her form of practice.

Relationships By : Azizah Nubia
Healing through SiStarhood If it were up to the so called Reality tv gods, you would think we women were jealous, envious and unhappy with one another all the time
talented, we all have so much to offer. By making sure you’re on your path and living life how you see fit, you should have no time worrying about someone else’s life.
I always wondered why that was; in my early teen years I was faced with a lot of jealously from many girls for just simply being me. I had to learn that women who “hate “on you only hate because you have something they wish they had. The funny thing is that if they would focus their attention on themselves they too can be just as great as they think you are.
I agree that there should be more media outlets that promote more positive outlets to demonstrate positive woman to woman interaction. But that will only happen when women chose to have better relationships with each other first. It starts with you; you are the common denominator, if you are in constant drama with the women in your life, look a little deeper into why you are experiIf we are going to go anywhere as a people we encing such behavior. I guarantee you will must improve the relationships we have with see it’s not “them” that get under your skin one another, by fixing the things inside of us it’s been you. that cause us to have ill feelings towards each other. Especially when it comes to other 45

“ It starts with you; you are the common denominator, if you are in constant drama with the women in your life, look a little deeper into why you are experiencing such behavior.”
I will admit it may be ugly at first facing that side of yourself, but once faced, be rest assured you will no longer have to deal with that feeling again. One of the greatest feelings I have experienced is the feeling of not having a problem with my sistars. Having great relationships with the women in our lives is a powerful feeling. It’s nothing like having a best friend, sistars, mother, or daughter to go to when you are faced with problems its nothing like a sistar who understands you, because a man can only do so much.
Women closest to us. In Return to Balance Keys to Success by Azizah Nubia she say “ When we see flaws within another person its only because we are picking up on flaws we have within us . What's felt on the inside reflects on the outside.” Improving our relationships with one another is vital sistars. We are called to be of service for one another, to learn from each other and to help heal each other. Lets vibe higher to a more peaceful environment among each other. Lets respect, ,love, and honor each other, from the oldest woman to the youngest baby. We are all women we are all special we are all worth it.
Solutions When it come to improving relationships with one another , you must first look deep into your self . You are the star of your own real life movie. Your Life! Yes you are the star how do you want your movie to play out. Do you like the role you playing now? You have the power to change it, the same goes for your relationships especially with the .

Real Women Don’t Compete By: Zephanie Garrett
How do you go about showing interest in a guy your friend is also attracted too? Who makes the first move on him? I’ve dealt with this once before, a friend said they weren’t feeling a guy I was interested in, but the moment I wasn’t around their actions spoke volumes. If your out on the town, and you and a close friend zone in on a hot guy. Follow these rules to prevent a night of drama. Rule#1 : Discuss Be honest about how you feel. Just because your friend mentioned her interest doesn’t mean you should always back down. Admit to the attraction then let the man decide who he wants. Be tasteful, making overly sexual gestures sends the wrong message and it says a lot about your character. That’s the last thing you want to compromise.“It really depends on the circumstances. If they met him and fell for him first you should back off. If you all, both met at the same time you both should back off to avoid drama” Candyce Surney, Age 25Of course, there are always exceptions to every rule. If he shows interest in your friend first you should back off immediately. Rule#2 : Divide and Conquer After you discuss it with your friend. You both need to figure out who will make the first move. Depending on your comfort level you can both engage in a conversation with him. I would prefer you do this separately so he can focus on you. Men get easily distracted, but if it makes you feel more comfortable its up to you. Be yourself with this guy don’t over do it to get his attention. The only way you’ll know if he’s worth all the effort is to show him what your all about. That way when he talks to the both of you. He can make the best decision on who he’s into.“He is still fair game until he decides who he wants in my honest opinion”. Gabriel Hampton, Age 25 Rule#3 : Don’t Be Disappointed Don’t get upset with your friend if he's more interested in her. Looks can be deceiving, but if that is not the case remember he’s not the only man in the room or on the earth for that matter. There are plenty more where that came from. Don’t be disappointed in your capability of attracting a man. When that man said no, twenty more around you would have said yes. Real women don’t need to compete. The man will make his decision to make you his woman as soon as he lays eyes on you. At that moment no one else will matter and he’ll do wants necessary for you to see that. You should be proud of taking a chance most of the greatest experiences in life came from taking a risk. At least, you don’t have to go home wondering what if. Besides, this man did you a favor he helped make room for another special man in your life. As an added bonus, you won’t be intimated when you really do meet Mr. Right.

Article from artofliving.org
The quality of your life depends directly on the state of your mind. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if when life throws you curve balls, instead of getting bogged down with uncertainties and questions, you could bounce back fighting stronger than ever? Most of us do manage to do this, in varying degrees, almost every day, but sometimes, it seems like our minds are infested with those annoying “can’ts” and “won’ts” and “maybe not's “. So how can we learn to spend more of our time thinking, “Yes, we can!”? Yoga has a unique approach to the state of doubt. Doubt is just a lack of prana – the vital life force or energy. We gain prana from four sources – food, sleep, breath and meditation. So yogis, who are very smart doubt-busters, include plenty of these sources in their lives. When you start to sense a slight negative attitude in your thoughts, just get up and do something to increase your prana! It takes some practice to catch oneself before a negative train of thought goes past a couple of stations, but this simple plan works! Here’s my anti doubt regimen:
Yoga stretches: Yoga is very relaxing, and it takes away my attention from my thoughts and focuses it on my breath. Some standing and sitting stretches bring me to my present sensations and feelings, and my anxieties about the future drop. Suryanamaskar (Sun salutations): This series of asanas (postures) is yoga’s invocation to the Sun, which fills our lives with light and warmth, and dispels any ignorance. Padmasadhana: This potent yoga technique I learnt in the YES!+ course gets rid of my restlessness and two rounds of it are equivalent to a day at the spa. Padmasadhana is accompanied by Ujjayi breath, which in Sanskrit translates to ‘the victory breath’. A few minutes of ujjayi breathing always gives me a sense of valor and triumph. Go to sleep. If you get enough sleep at night, there is no wrong side of the bed to get up on. Eat a fresh, juicy apple! You really are what you eat. Personally I find that pizza, ice cream and cookies leave me feeling lethargic, and salads and soups are energizing. Doubt is always about something that is positive. We seldom question our weaknesses. We rarely say to our enemies, “Are you sure you hate me?” So when I catch myself in a state of doubt, I recognize that there is something positive in my life, and am grateful for it. Soon enough, you will see a difference and will be able to maintain a high level of prana. Incorporate yoga and pranayama and cut down on prana-decreasing activities such as spending hours watching television. The choice is yours! Have a high prana day!

Feng Shui is an Ancient Afro-Asian art created to balance energy in order to attain greater happiness ,well-being and productivity. Practiced for over 6,000 years Feng Shui has been used in many modern business settings that create peaceful work environments. Check out some these great tips that can be incorporated into your existing or new business
Position of Your Desk in a Room or Office In the practice of Feng Shui, the happiness, success and prosperity you have in your business life is greatly influenced by the position of your desk. The optimal position is one in which your desk is set back to view as much of the room as possible, with your back to a wall. You should also have a view of both a window and the door, but never in direct line with the door. Diagonal desk and door alignment is best. The doorway or window should never be directly behind your back; to do so would invite negative sha chi (energy).
58
Flowers and Plants Live plants and flowers bring many positive elements into the workplace. Aside from their natural beauty, they improve air quality, unite us with the natural world outside, and their green color encourages personal and business growth. Avoid any cactus or plants with sharp-looking leaves as these may cause sha chi .To bring their positive influences, plants and flowers must be healthy and flourishing. If a plant dies, remove it and replace it with another. Keep in mind it better to have a silk plant than none at all. Just be sure to keep it dusted and vibrant-looking.

Water Water is the most powerful symbol of money in feng shui. Its sparkling chi energy is beneficial for your health and prosperity but care must be taken to keep water fresh and clean. Fountains are wonderful but be sure their water flow is not blocked, stagnant or very rapid. Scaled-down fountains that are designed for a desk or small table are a good choice if space is limited. Another great choice is either a fish tank or aquarium. Consider including goldfish in your tank as gold is a Chinese symbol for money and is thought to attract it. Another great way to incorporate water into your business is the use of any artifact that depicts water.
Feng shui your website. Yes, feng shui can even be applied to website. Use colors that will attract visitors, websites whose colors conflict, such as red and silver, green and beige, or green and yellow. These are color combinations that fatigue visitors – meaning the website is less sticky and more likely to be abandoned and with fewer repeat visitors. That’s because these color combinations make your website work against itself – and that gets you nowhere. Select feng shui compatible color combinations. This would include blue, black, and white or yellow, purple, and red, or green, black, and blue.

Lets face it ,the economy is in bad shape and from the looks of it Black Americans have the power to change the ball game, as Black consumers remain at the forefront of social trends . According to FinalCall.com Black America’s collective buying power is estimated to reach $1.1 trillion by 2015 and media consumption, according to the new report, “African Americans: Still Vital, Still Growing 2012 Report.” So what does this have to do with your income taxes and how you spend it. February through April is the month when our pockets and wallets are a little bigger thanks to Uncle Sam , but the key is not to spend all of the money up but to invest it to bring in more cash flow. Below are 10 ways you turn your few hundreds or thousands into tens of thousands even millions.
#1 Invest into your business If you’re a small business owner a income tax refund is a great way to invest a little cash into your business. Buy more product, pay for marketing, invest in anything that can take you business to the next
#2 Invest in black owned business If your not a business owner and you receive a tax refund try investing in another black owned business. Whether it’s a friend or relative you can become a small investor in a business of your choosing, your investment will pay off in the long run and before long you should begin seeing your investment coming back to you ten—fold. Be sure to choose the right business to invest in do research!
60
#3 Start your own online business You may be tired of the same old 9 to 5 and want to do your own thing. Your tax refund can be used to help you start up your own business. Starting up a online business has proven to be one of the most cost efficient ways to start a business with just a few hundred dollars. With a platform of being online your business has the potential to be a trillion dollar business on a Global stage.
#4 Buy into an Affiliate program. Affiliate programs are the new “IT in cyber world . Kind of like buying into a franchise an affiliate program gives you the something to sale that someone else created. And in return you both make money. The Natural Woman Affiliate program is a great program that gives you the freedom to have your own business with the potential of making $10,000 a month.
#5 Alternative Investments Heard of the stock market? If your like me you may not want to risk of stocks falling. But with Alternative investments you can invest in global stock on the internet. These investments are specifically created to generate returns irrespective of market conditions or direction. In other words you don't need a constantly rising market to generate returns. Instead these purpose built investment vehicles can make money whether the market is rising, falling or just going sideways. Some good Alternative investments are The Mooney Twins Wealth Portal & The Royal Network.
#6 Invest in Yourself Never feel that it is too much to invest in yourself. You are your most valuable asset so when it comes to buying things that will better you do it no matter the price! 61

Multicultural Beauty with Gerrie Summers By Tammarah Overton Tammarah : What inspired you to create the About.com Multicultural Beauty site? Gerrie: I had been the beauty editor for a national black woman’s magazine for about 12 years when my editor decided to leave. It was probably the best thing that could have happened to me. The beauty column was very limiting and was no longer fun nor interesting to write. A friend of mine was About.com’s Guide to Long Island and she suggested that I take a look at some of the topics that were available. . The one I initially applied for went to someone else. My friend suggested that I continue to watch for openings and one day

I noticed that Ethnic Beauty (the original name) was open and I applied. I was so happy that I didn’t get the other guide site, because I absolutely love doing About.com Multicultural Beauty! One of the things that caught my eye was within the statement describing the site. It said something to the effect that it was not a site that promotes skin bleaching creams, which to me meant that it was a site that would celebrate all the different and beautiful tones of skin of color. It inspires you to embrace your natural beauty and your unique and beautiful skin tone, whether it is light or dark.

Tammarah: At what moment did you realize that being involved in beauty industry was your passion? Gerrie: I was always interested in beauty products, especially nail polish and lipstick. I wrote about some products when I was editor of a teen hip-hop magazine, but when a friend of mine became editor of the aforementioned magazine; I wanted to do something different. I decided it was time to switch from entertainment to the beauty world. Beauty is more than just makeup, skin care and products. There's beauty in the way you present yourself and the way you treat others. You could be drop dead gorgeous, but have a toxic approach to life. Ugly thoughts are just as bad as putting toxic ingredients on your skin and inside your body. Tammarh: What advice would you give to other black women that want to become a successful journalist like yourself?
Gerrie: I would recommend going to journalism school to learn the basics or at the least take a few courses in writing. I didn’t go to journalism school, though. I went to a liberal arts college and earned a degree in English composition. My true lessons came from reading and studying well-written articles by professional writers with years of experience.

I became a Consultant because I needed to have a more flexible schedule being that I have a 10 yr old with Cerebral Palsy, a handsome husband, and 3 older boys. Being my own boss has allowed me to be there for my family and have time to myself. The confidence and personal growth that my business has allowed me to achieve is what I want to share with people around the world who decide to join my team in hopes that they find their own successes.
How has life prepared you for this moment? I do think that all my life experiences have prepared me for this moment. From the passing of one the most important people in my life and the job she had chosen and how it relates to my life now, to the businesses that I run. My son has Cerebral Palsy and mom took care of veterans at a VA Hospital, so I grew up knowing about how to care for someone who cannot do for themselves. I knew that I was meant to do something that would effect and inspire many.
What are your goals? I want to reach SuperStar Director rank and have a team of supportive women who grow personally and with their businesses. Breaking them out of their comfort zones and providing them with an opportunity to be their own boss.

The energy you give out will be the energy you get back in return so always try to spread positivity. Prepare a Vision Board with goals and wants so that when you manifest them you can look back and always remember what you achieved. Know that nothing can stand in your way. My son is 10 and he cannot stand nor walk but he always has a smile and lives with no worries! 83
