This is already the third edition of the Maritime Holland Business Guide. In the last years our business guide has become a familiar sight at events and coffee tables in the maritime industry. Our guide has become a showpiece of the Dutch maritime industry.
The first edition has been distributed on many exhibitions like SMM, Breakbulk, Maintenance Antwerp, Offshore Energy Exhibition & Conference and Kalkar. It was available at symposiums like Digital Ship Maritime Cyber Resilience Forum last January and send out to the whole network of Maritime Holland magazine. Also the online version of the business guide got a lot of exposure, with visitors from all over the world. This year we will even push harder to promote the Maritime Holland Business Guide among an international audience. More companies are part of this edition. The success is easy to explain. The Maritime Holland Business Guide is an international showpiece for the Dutch maritime industry. It shows the variety and scope of the sector by portraying its players. In the first part of the guide, different trade organisations from the Netherlands are introduced. They will give an impression of their specific sector. Next, companies that define the Dutch maritime industry are presented among international . We would like to thank everybody that made the 18/19 edition of the Maritime Holland Business Guide possible. Without those proud companies it could not have been done. If you have ideas or suggestions after reading the guide, please let us know. Jaap Proost Editor-in-chief, Maritime Holland jp@navingo.com

Today Holland is home to many companies that are at the top of their business. A powerful cluster of twelve different sectors, connected to the rivers and seas, provides an unbeatable combination of expertise and experience. Holland exports nearly two thirds of its maritime work, changing the life of communities worldwide. The first gasoil free, LNG powered inland vessel, the Greenstream was designed and built by the Dutch. This innovation means a tremendous leap forward in sustainability and efficiency. We gave the world the marvel that is Dubai’s Palm Island and the Maasvlakte II. Connoisseurs covet our yachts. Netherlands Maritime Technology Dutch shipbuilding has a long history spanning many centuries. In the 1970s and 1980s, the industry redefined itself, away from mass-market ships and towards high-tech, specialised ships. As such, the Dutch shipbuilding industry still prospers today. Large Dutch shipbuilders such as Damen and Royal IHC have grown into multinational companies, while yards like Feadship, Oceanco, Amels, Heesen and Vitters can count themselves among the most important superyacht yards in the world.
Netherlands Maritime Technology
The Netherlands T +31 (0)88 44 51 000 E info@maritimetechnology.nl I www.maritimetechnology.nl maritimetechnologynl @MaritimeTechEN The construction of short sea cargo vessels in the North of the Netherlands also continues to thrive, despite many economic headwinds over the years. The builders here are renowned over the world for the quality, efficiency and reliability of their vessels. As the European short sea shipping market finally improves again, these yards are rapidly gaining new orders for ships with new and improved designs. Newbuilding and repair of inland cargo vessels is also a dedicated industry. 2017 saw a marked improvement in the order books for newbuild inland cargo vessels. Repair yards in this segement also reported busy slipways. The Dutch-flagged inland cargo fleet numbers some 6,000 vessels, providing a good basis for a large industry. Dutch yards are also household names in the construction of river cruise vessels, a bouyant market in Europe.
the shrimper segment for Dutch customers. However, construction of fishing vessels for foreign customers has also improved, not to mention the amount of large refits and conversions of existing fishing vessels filling up the quaysides and docks of the fishing vessel yards. Ship repair and conversion yards have seen some tough times in recent years, but the market is now starting to improve. Damen Shiprepair has become a market leader in Europe, and continues to expand. In addition, a number of smaller and highly creative repair and conversion yards continue to thrive in the Netherlands. In total, there are over 100 shipyards in the Netherlands, active in the fields of new construction, conversion and repair of seagoing vessels, inland ships and megayachts.
The Dutch shipbuilding industry in 2017 Shipyards serving the fisheries industry have been enjoying good times lately. Despite uncertainties on the horizon, there has been a renaissance of newbuild construction, mainly in

These types of yards did well in 2017. There was a clear upward trend in deliveries, new orders and the size of order books. Some 155 inland shipping vessels and small seagoing vessels were completed in 2017. More than a third of these were small cutter suction dredgers for inland waterways. These units were almost all exported, and their number rose sharply in 2017. The number of completed inland tankers and cargo vessels increased considerably compared to 2016, from 35 to 46. The outlook for the coming year is also good: approximately 76 new tankers, dry cargo vessels and container vessels were ordered in 2017. The number of completed river cruise vessels remained stable at nine, plus six tour boats. The order book for river cruise vessels continued on its downward trend, from 12 at the end of 2016 to 8 by the end of 2016; a recovery in the number of orders is expected in 2018.
vessels, which demonstrated that the fisheries sector is using the current boom to prepare for challenges expected in the coming years due to threats such as Brexit, the prohibition on electric pulse fishing and the discard ban.
Superyacht construction Dutch superyacht builders received some 18 new orders for yachts above 24 metres in 2017, comparable to the 17 new orders seen in 2016. The total value of the new contracts was €1.2 billion – also similar to 2016, when it had been €1.3 billion. Last year was very successful for the sale of so-called ‘on spec’ yachts, whose construction starts before a buyer has been found. It was also a good year in terms of superyacht deliveries, with no fewer than 25 completed (the corresponding figure for 2016 was 19) with a total estimated value of over €1.2 billion – a record amount. The order books at the end of 2017 counted 9 fewer yachts than the year before, dropping to 57 with a total value of almost €4.5 billion – historically still a very high figure. The large yacht builders generally have well-filled order books.
Repair of seagoing vessels The turnover of the Dutch repair yards for seagoing vessels amounted to €381 million in 2017, representing a fall in turnover for the second consecutive year. Employment also fell for the second year in a row, from 2,020 FTEs in 2016 to

The resurgence in new construction of fishing vessels begun in 2016 continued strongly through 2017. This was visible mainly in the number of new orders, which grew from 6 in 2016 to no fewer than 18 in 2017. The new commissions included several highly innovative

1,710 in 2017. The decline in the workforce was caused by several restruturings that had been announced in late 2016 and finalised in 2017, as well as other consolidations in the industry. Turnover and staff numbers have fallen to their lowest levels of the past 10 years, an unfortunate but expected decrease. The outlook for 2018 is moderately positive, with substantial differences in outlooks between yards with smaller docks and those with larger ones. Ship owners are still delaying maintenance and only carrying out the most urgent jobs. Their earnings are low due to low rates and high competition and overcapacity. The number of retrofits is still disappointing. The industry has been looking forward to the Ballast Water Convention coming into force for years, so it was a real disappointment when the main section (the obligation to install ballast water treatment systems) was postponed for 2 years by the IMO’s member states only a few months prior to its planned implementation. Yards are seeing interest on the part of ship owners in the installation of these systems, but in most cases, this remains at the level of requests for information. There also seems to be a slight increase in interest in installing scrubbers due to the stricter regulations for sulphur in 2020, but, here too, there are mostly only requests for information so far. Despite all these challenges, the Dutch shiprepair industry continues to be one of the largest in Europe.

In addition to the abovementioned yards, which focus on building seagoing vessels larger than 100 GT, there are also numerous yards which construct smaller specialised vessels. These range from large cargo vessels for inland shipping and river cruise vessels to small harbour tugs and pilot boats up to 100 GT. The construction of smaller fishing vessels is included within this category.

At the end of 2017, the combined Dutch order book counted 93 vessels with a total tonnage of 437,000 CGT, a decrease compared to the 508,000 CGT seen in 2016. A total of 58 vessels with a total tonnage of 231,000 CGT were delivered in 2017, down 20% compared to 2016. The total value of the completed vessels fell from over €1.3 billion in 2016 to €847 million in 2017.

ing vessels in 2017, this was still a difficult year for Dutch yards. Even so, they received a number of notable orders for highly complex and valuable vessels. While the combined tonnage of new orders fell slightly in 2017, there was a rise in total numbers and value. Fifty-six new vessels were ordered in 2017, against 42 in 2016. The value of new orders increased from €642 million in 2016 to over €1.1 billion in 2017. Dredgers and different types of work vessels accounted for over 60% of new orders in terms of tonnage.

Sustainability, digitalisation and product development The renewal of product portfolios is combined with a shift to solutions with an emphasis on sustainability. Many suppliers have contributed to an online catalogue of Dutch-made sustainable maritime solutions on www.sustainable-maritime-solutions.nl.
Investments were also made by various equipment suppliers in digitalisation of production and products and the enhancement of their sustainable character. A select number of SMEs have also grasped the opportunity to use government funding to support the speeding up of their product development.
Sustainability and digitisation remained key trends in 2017. This stimulated innovative developments which saw the introduction of technology from other sectors.

The Netherlands has just such a cluster of companies. It is estimated that the Dutch marine equipment industry numbers around 800 companies, which are mainly SME’s but almost all are very actively engaged in export markets. Prospects in the maritime supply sector generally improved in the course of the year. The far-reaching specialisation of Dutch suppliers and their focus on vessel types with a lot of complex equipment again proved a good strategy in 2017. For instance, more and more Dutch companies are delivering to the major builders of cruise vessels. Despite a more positive sentiment towards the end of the year, the market for most suppliers remained very competitive and price levels remained under pressure. The combined turnover of Dutch maritime suppliers decreased from €3.8 billion in 2016 to €3.4 billion in 2017. Some 60% of this turnover was generated by exports. There was shrinkage in the workforce as well: total employment fell by approximately 425 FTEs to 16,413 FTEs. The fall in turnover also resulted in a decline in the number of interim workers, which dropped from 1,903 in 2016 to 1,460 in 2017.

The Royal Association of Netherlands Shipowners (KVNR) represents the interests of this dynamic and innovative industry. A proportion of the Dutch fleet operates globally. A major part of the Dutch fleet consists of relatively small oceangoing vessels,
mainly being multi-purpose or general cargo vessels. These ships are active in in maritime transport between European ports and/or non-EU ports in nearby countries like Russia and the Northern African nations. This type of transport - short sea shipping as it is called - amounts to 33% of total cargo transported within the EU. Dutch shipowners are market leaders in some segments of the industry, including short sea shipping, heavy lift and reefer shipping. In
the offshore industry (oil, gas, wind power), too, Dutch shipowners are a major presence. Around 800 businesses are operational within the shipping industry of the Netherlands. Dutch shipowners manage 2,012 ships, 1,059 of which are registered under the Dutch flag and 953 under other flags. In 2016, the shipping industry’s turnover amounted to € 5.8 billion. The added value (both direct and indirect) in 2016 was as much as € 2.4 billion. Around 70%
of this amount is earned ashore, in ships’ management-related office employment. Including the indirect employment impact, the shipping industry in the Netherlands generates jobs for around 18,000 persons. Total employment within the Dutch shipping industry (cargo vessels, cruise ships and ferries) amounts to around 30,000 including non-Dutch seafarers. During the European Shipping Week in 2017, the KVNR organised a seminar on short sea
shipping. Following a high level meeting on the same topic in 2016, short sea shipping continues to be very relevant for the Netherlands. The question remains how short sea shipping may be given an added impetus and how its declining share in intra-EU transport may be turned around into a growing share. The method of choice for achieving this is obvious: reduce the administrative burdens and abolish all custom formalities for maritime transport between European ports.

The Dutch inland navigation fleet is by far the largest and most modern one of Europe: more than 8,300 of the total European fleet of 12,000 ships sail under Dutch flag. Their total capacity adds up to more than 9 million tons. 80 per cent of all bulk cargo and 35 per cent of all containers is transported to and from the hinterland by inland barge.
@CBRBtweets
CBRB is the leading branche organisation for all segments in the inland navigation industry. CBRB-members vary
Apart from the Dutch cargo fleet, there is also a considerable fleet of passenger ships
with over 1,200 day trip vessels, river cruise vessels and the more traditional style charter vessels. Their total economic impact equals € 332 mln1. Furthermore, over 300 ferry services in the Netherlands transfer more than 54 million passengers across rivers, canals and lakes every year, thereby avoiding 493 million detour kilometres, € 8.9 million environmental costs and 154 casualties2. One of the major items for the inland shipping industry is greening and sustainability. Inland navigation has always been a sustainable transport mode, and when it comes to CO2 inland navigation is almost invincible. But when it comes to NOx, SO2 and PMx, road transport is catching up fast. That is why the inland transport sector embarked on a transition towards sustainability. First of all, by using more sustainable fuels such as low sulphur diesel, LNG and GTL. Secondly, by investing in new engine techniques, such as diesel-electric, hybrid, single
from small shipping companies to large international logistic service providers, and are active in all inland navigation sub segments: container shipping, dry bulk
and dual fuel. Pre- and after treatment (such as SCR catalyser, soot filter) are a means to specifically reduce SO2 and PMx. Other propulsion techniques like O-foils and counter rotating propellers reduce fuel consumption. Another major theme is the labour market and education, in combination with manning requirements. An agreement was recently reached with the European Parliament on setting up a common system of certificates for people working in the inland navigation sector in the EU. Holders of these certificates will be able to practise their profession on all inland waterways across Europe. The new system will improve career prospects in the sector and make it easier for qualified people to take jobs wherever they are available. The improvement of the position of inland shipping companies in the logistic chain is also increasingly important. Innovative combinations of cargo volumes and different transport modes, depending on the requirements of the various shippers and their logistic processes, can lead to unexpected opportunities for cost reduction and subsequently to modal shift from road to inland waterways. CBRB represents the interests of the sector in all relevant fields (technical, nautical, safety, working conditions, legal, et cetera), thus unburdening its members and creating the right conditions for them, so they can concentrate on running their business.

With a fleet of over 6000 superyachts, facilities in the popular areas of the Mediterranean and Caribbean are becoming more crowded and owners are exploring other parts of the world with relish. Some of the fiscal regulations being introduced are also having an impact on the traditional European destinations. Add in the natural curiosity of yacht owners to head for pastures new and it is no surprise that regions such as Scandinavia and the Baltics are growing in popularity. Taking a collaborative approach is a fundamental part of being a member of this association and of its success for almost half a century. Land Reclamation and Coastal Engineering is a vital sector
Dutch Association of Dredging Contractors A vital sector: Wherever coastal protection or land reclamation is needed anywhere in the world you will find at least one Dutchman advising and often a Dutch company to carry out the work. They have built a worldwide reputation in this work by necessity. They have not only written books about it, made films about it but designed and built some of the most innovative land and water management projects with their own equally innovative equipment available in this industry.

Living with water These engineers are vital for life in delta regions, not only in the Netherlands, but worldwide, ensuring that our civilised existence and total infrastructure can survive the forces of excessive water levels. They are able to provide the basic social requirements and create the preconditions necessary for this standard. They have learned to live with the water; learned to build with the water. Today,
the engineers are partly responsible for guaranteeing that we, as a society, can live safely, in our work and recreation.
Diverse There are many different sub divisions under the titles hydraulic engineering and environmental engineering. They include: land reclamation, dredging, flood protection, coastal structural engineering and port development. The lion’s share of this work in the Netherlands is controlled by a government department. The Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment has the greatest amount of this, followed by the water authorities, provincial governments, councils and finally the private sector. In Europe there are about ten large and midsize water companies some of which extend globally. They are involved with

large scale projects such as port development, operation and maintenance, the inland waterways and canals, land reclamation and coastal protection. Even though these companies are active globally many have their roots firmly based in the Netherlands.
Material With large dredging vessels, rock dumping vessels, sand hoppers, small inland water
dredgers to keep the rivers free from silting the engineers have a wide variety of engineering, equipment at their command. The long list of equipment in this sector, developed by their own engineers with ample cooperation from specialist shipyards and suppliers, has enabled the large international capital intensive companies to increase the number of the ‘tools of the trade’ available in their fleet enormously. There are almost 3,000 Dutch
companies associated with water technology; they are active in 73 countries. The American newspaper headlines read ‘Let’s bring in the Dutch’ after Hurricane Katrina hit the city of New Orleans in 2005. Their experience is called on to protect flood prone areas in Indonesia, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Colombia, Mozambique, and also the USA! This is an international market that has a total export value of € 18 Billion to the Dutch economy.

Our business Innovation, collaboration and environmental sustainability. With our emphasis on sustainable innovation, our focus on progressive propulsion solutions and our commitment to support the varying needs of all our clients AAA Propulsion has become a trustworthy and future proof player in the maritime industry.
Innovation With our patented pod-drive (V-pod) and the patented gear shaft for the Z-drive we are unique in the maritime industry. Our pioneering V-POD is the first electric driven propulsion system with an integrated electric motor featuring a hollow drive shaft. This
shaft drives a planetary gearbox that, in turn, drives a propeller shaft that extends through the whole POD housing. Due to the reduction ratio of the planetary gearbox, the propeller will always run at its most economical speed, resulting in optimal performance in terms of efficiency and thrust.
Collaboration The thruster market is constantly changing, which means the demands to the thruster design naturally evolve. That is why we closely collaborate with naval architects, classification societies, and owners, to achieve an optimal product definition. Based on lists of requirements and demands, propulsion systems are subjected to a continuous development process.

25 years of experience in sensor solutions
Equipment
Everyone is familiar with bridge collisions and their consequences. Bridgescout® is developed to reduce the number of collisions as well as the risk of collisions. With Bridgescout® you will increase alertness and safety aboard. Bridgescout® not only protects your vessel, but also your personnel. In addition, freight offices are assured that cargo will be shipped safely and in time.
Bridgescout® is suitable for every type of vessel: tanker, dry cargo-, container- and passenger ship. It starts scanning at a distance of 500 meters from an object using a real time scan. Hereby Bridgescout® increases alertness when approaching a bridge. Alertness is an important part of preventing collisions. If the wheelhouse is too high to pass an approaching object, the captain will be informed by an alarm. A Bridgescout® alarm at the outside wing control is possible as well. Bridgescout® provides support at critical moments, for example at night, when visibility on board is limited.
Bridgescout BV is part of the Sensor Groep, a company with more than 25 years of knowledge and experience in sensor solutions. The product development policy is motivated by innovative thinking and the experience of its clients.

The investment team guides companies to their new location within the Drecht Cities. We provide a connection to a great network in the

service community. Deal focuses on two sectors: maritime and logistics.
Maritime The maritime production is the most distinctive feature of the region. Within a small piece of land, world leaders are active in dredging, shipbuilding, mega yacht building, offshore construction and inland navigation. The presence of global world leaders has led to the growth of a sublime equipment manufacturing and system integration industry with excellent innovations.
Logistics The logistics sector profits from the favourable geographical location of the Drecht Cities. Inland navigation is one of the driving forces behind logistics. Therefore, the Centre of Excellence

for Inland Shipping is located in this region. But most of all, the corridor function, linking Rotterdam and Amsterdam to Antwerp, and Europort to the German hinterland, is unique. So how does Deal work in practice? If you are an entrepreneur (from start-up to corporate) and you are thinking of expanding your business, start up a new business or relocating to a waterbound or logistics location, you call Deal. Our investment team is ready to assist you. The great advantage of our free-of-charge services is that you will get a personalised approach and guidance. Our goal is to make the investor feel at home, speed up the process and make any match needed to realise your target within the Drecht Cities. Welcome to Rotterdam DC!

Almost a century ago, DHR became famous for its high quality brass & copper products. Nowadays, we manufacture robust and reliable lighting and signalling equipment to perform in the harshest marine environments. By having all processes under one roof, from development to final assembly, we are able to meet the highest quality standards in the industry. Whether it’s an air horn in the dense and icy fog, a searchlight in the arctic or signalling lights in the blistering heat of the Suez Canal, failure is not an option. We understand the need for quality and its relation to value. Our lighting & signalling systems are made to last!
LED Technology Less than six years ago, DHR started with the
development of a LED product line of navigation lights and has extended this in 2017 with its first LED searchlight. LEDS, also referred to as Light-emitting diodes are more energy efficient, produces less heat and provide more light output. For most applications, this also allows for reduced weight which is becoming more and more important in the maritime market. Overall distinctive features of DHR LED products are their extensive lifetime and increased safety as no bulb replacement is required.
Bright future Den Haan Rotterdam believes in innovation. Also in the maritime market, where safety plays an important role. Den Haan Rotterdam manufactures Halogen searchlights for over 30 years and are known for their robustness, quality and reliabil-

ity: key values of maritime products. Traditional light sources are rapidly being replaced by LED technology. This requires a completely different approach in engineering and production. Knowhow and know-why owned by DHR. At Den Haan Rotterdam, we want to ensure that the products maintain these important market key values. With the release of the 300RCB LED searchlight in 2017, DHR made a step in providing a durable and maintenance free searchlight solution. Now, with a growing demand, DHR is also developing LED based searchlights for smaller vessels. As with all our searchlights, they remain robust, easy in use and straight-forward to install. The new range of searchlight(s) are expected to be available the first quarter of 2019.
An all-round exhaust systems specialist
Innovation is the essence
Latest developments
Discom’s history goes back more than more than forty years. In that time our field of work has broadened considerably. Although we started out as a supplier of silencers we have grown into an all-round specialist in exhaust systems. At Discom, noise limitation and hazardous emissions go hand in hand. That combination of expertise is unique. Integrating knowledge in both specialist fields enables us to coordinate systems precisely. This has all kinds of significant benefits, namely the retention of optimal performance, a more efficient development process, more effective responses to the possibilities and impossibilities during the integration phase and clarity for the customer, who has just one point of contact.
Continual research and development has made Discom a leader in its field. We continually search for techniques and materials to meet ever stricter requirements. Efficiency is a matter of course. Optimal control during the entire chain keeps costs manageable and safeguards delivery times, all the more so because Discom produces at a number of different locations. It makes no difference whether it is a simple silencer for an inland navigation vessel or a turnkey project on a drilling rig, including all the pipes, mountings and housings.
Our latest developments are ‘Water Cooled Valves’ and ‘Stage V Systems’. The Valves help to cool down the exhaust gas, prevents the hull from burning and reduces hot spots.

Total supplier: Complete projects We can carry out complete projects for you, whether it is new construction or renovation of existing ships or machines. Our technicians prepare a precise specification and a custom installation is designed on the drawing table. The building process is concluded with a profound program of tests and, following delivery, we spend a great deal of attention on instruction and training.
Complete prefab systems The advantages of a prefab system are a short delivery time and low costs. Because you as a client can install the system yourself, the cost savings are considerable.
Our detailed and clear manuals help you with this. Moreover, the packages are more than complete, because standard parts are delivered with a wide margin. We can deliver the prefab systems anywhere in the world.
Components For your systems, such as switch boxes or complete consoles, Gebhard delivers all possible components. These are equipped with accurate instructions for the local installers. However, we can also deliver all other electrical components that are part of a complete system anywhere in the world quickly and at attractive prices. Naturally, we use only A-brands, because we attach a great deal of importance to the reliability of a system.

Couplings
With almost 60 years of experience in all kinds of industries, KTR designs, engineers and produces high-quality drive components for marine and offshore applications for almost two decades now, always taking in to account the industries specific demands. Many products have a type approval according the severe rules of classification companies as for example ABS, DNV GL, LRS, NR, CCS or RMRS. For other products we work out a specific design approval. Approval and certification come with extended documentation such as calculations and 3.1 or 3.2 acc. DIN EN 10204 material certificates for traceability of the used material.
Specific coupling applications for marine and offshore The scope of application of the flexible and
elastic jaw coupling ROTEX® is very diverse. 0414KTRBenelux_AdvNMTmagazine15sep2016_2.indd 1 Besides common drives such as pump drives, this coupling is used very often in thruster and azimuth drives. The ROTEX® is able to dampen and reduce peak torques and vibrations that appear during operation. This extends the life time of all drive components in the complete drive train. In high-power thruster drives the elastic and failsafe pin and bush coupling REVOLEX® KX-D or the all-steel curved tooth GEARex® coupling are used. For waterjet drives KTR developed the torsional stiff steel lamina coupling RADEX®-N Composite with a carbon fiber spacer: able to compensate large distances between the shaft ends and misalignments and provides a reliable transmission of the torque while at the same time saving weight and is completely insensitive to corrosion.

Besides couplings the KTR portfolio for marine and offshore applications also consists of clamping elements for high-torque shaft-hub-connections, electro-mechanical and hydraulic parking brake, service and emergency brakes, lock an turn system for the main propeller shaft, hydraulic components and oil-air-coolers as well as every combination of either one of them. With a large number of certified raw material and semi-finished KTR-products in stock we can quickly produce couplings and combinations in our own production facilities in Europe, China, South America and the USA. Furthermore, 25 subsidiaries and over 90 representatives assure a global supply of our drive solutions.
Switch to Peace of Mind We have been in the maritime industry since 1856. With more than 40,000 seals delivered, we have gained the right knowledge, resources and capacity to develop seals and will continue in the future. With the production location at our headquarters in the Netherlands, we make sure all sealing components are of the highest quality and are perfectly attuned to each other. We service your needs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week worldwide.

The Supreme Ventus® is in line with VGP regulations and guarantees zero emissions of oil, while the HML layer significantly increases the lifetime of a liner.
Liquidyne® pump shaft seals The water lubricated Liquidyne pump shaft seals are known for their condition monitoring function. Lemans Nederland BV is a family business, founded in 1981 by Geert Lemans and his then wife Ria, and established in the garage of their home in Bergen op Zoom. The walls were papered, the floor was carpeted and the most intimate and unique workplace was a fact. In a mini fridge was always cold gin available and older customers are still talking at each exhibition about a visit to Lemans which always accompanied with lots of fun and lively conversations, obviously everything about what was going on in the maritime field. This approach, as heard at the unique personality of Geert Lemans, explained the success of the company. Unfortunately his wife Ria died suddenly in October of that year. An unimaginable heavy blow to the whole family. Also, by
the unwavering support of a few big customers, the company came through this difficult time. Not soon after the company moved to Moerdijk industrial area. It grew and built a big name in the maritime world. In particular, the creativity and flexibility of Geert Lemans, his tremendous knowledge in the maritime field, were a plus to be able to deliver to all the big names in the field of on-and offshore. Geert Lemans was leading the business till his death on 10 April 2012. He was succeeded by his son Michel, who learned the trade from his father and now already more than 20 years working in the business. Lemans Nederland BV has over the years an established name and solid reputation built in
the delivery of a wide range of articles in the maritime field. The market was in the beginning focused on the Netherlands, since Michel came in the business and the major advances in communication and “social media”, the foreign countries and overseas area’s has become a growing market for sales as well as purchasing. The products Lemans supplies are particular diverse and with the move in 2002 to “Oude Molen” industrial area at Halsteren, became especially the possibility to keep many items in stock, now known worldwide.

REINTJES continually expands its classic product portfolio of marine gearboxes for main drives with power ratings from 250 to 30,000 kW. Dredging gearboxes as well as complex system solutions such as pod drives and hybrid drives have rounded off the product range. For industrial use REINTJES offers high speed gearboxes for gas and steam turbines as well as for compressors.
REINTJES gearboxes of the WAF/LAF, SVA/ SVAL and DLG series have been specially designed for heavy-duty applications in work boats such as tugs, trawlers, inland waterway vessels, ferries, tankers off-shore vessels, container vessels and special-purpose ships with comparably high standards. Their outstanding features are optimal efficiency, high reliability and a long service life.
REINTJES hybrid systems are ideal for slowspeed operation and enhance the efficiency of your propulsion system as they allow for riding at a slow speed below idle speed. The electric drive ensures smooth running, less noise and low energy consumption and is becoming more and more important. The hybrid systems are suitable for fixed pitch propeller applications and available for electric motors from 60 ekW up to 630 ekW.

Shipyard De Hoop has a track record of engineering and constructing a whole range of custom-build offshore and inshore vessels. Where inland designs focus on large cruise and day passenger vessels and specialised work and transport-vessels, the offshore vessels come under the categories of dredgers, offshore /diving support vessels, suppliers, semisubmersibles, tugs and push boats, chemical tankers and container vessels. Furthermore, De Hoop has over the last years been working on various designs for small (expedition) cruise vessels.
The yard has its own engineering department and has sufficient capacity in-house to completely design the vessel. Once, starting to build the vessel, Shipyard De Hoop has the capability to perform steel cutting, work preparation and pre assembly to build the complete vessel. The yard also does its own carpentry and has workshops for piping and machinery and a complete fitting out facility. So basically, from start to finish, Shipyard De Hoop designs and builds the entire vessel.

The history of the family-owned business dates back to the 1920s when its operation started at the Dutch Hanseatic city of Hasselt. In 2003, a second location was acquired at Meppel, specialising in the construction of lightweight dry cargo ships, tankers, passenger ships and low-draught coasters for inland and coastal navigation. In 2013, Volharding Shipyards Harlingen was added to the company’s shipbuilding capacity, followed in 2015 by Peters Shipyards in Kampen. In addition to the construction of new vessels in Harlingen and Kampen, TB Shipyards also carries out all types of repairs, maintenance work and conversions. Since the beginning of 2018, the repair yards in Hasselt and Meppel have been merged and these works are being continued at the shipyard in Meppel. This clus-

ter of highly proficient shipyards specialises in building all types of seagoing and inland navigation vessels, such as pushers, water injection dredgers, day-passenger ships, fishing vessels, tankers, coasters and project cargo vessels. Because the market for traditional vessels such as cargo or project cargo was stagnating for a long period, TB Shipyards shifted focus to niche clients requiring specialised projects for niche markets. That’s how she entered the South American market more than six years ago and is entering the Caspian Sea market now. The new locations have improved the efficiency of operations and made it possible to further enhance the high-quality workmanship, speed and flexibility, creating a synergy effect in a joint engineering department that enables to handle a diverse range of projects.

TB Shipyards is very flexible and always focused on the client’s operation. She provides added value by finding the right balance between the design, construction, technology and finish of each vessel. Over the last few years TB Shipyards has also gained experience with alternative fuels by delivering two hydrogen and two LNG powered vessels. She always keeps an eye on the development of these progressive new technologies, although their real time is yet to come.” TB Shipyards handles projects from the initial concept through to construction and delivery, continuously and creatively searching for solutions that will best suit each client. This approach has resulted in a list of impressive projects.
