| LETTER FROM THE BOARD PRESIDENT
Jessica Nickloy
President, NAWBO-Indianapolis Board of Directors Welcome to our 15th Annual Visionary Awards Luncheon. The Indianapolis Chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners established the Visionary Awards luncheon to publicly recognize the achievements of female business leaders. This year’s theme is Rise. On behalf of the NAWBO-Indianapolis Board of Directors, we would like to thank the event organizers, corporate partners, sponsors, and you for supporting the 2018 Visionary Awards nominees and this inspiring day. Today we also celebrate our Chapter’s 21st Anniversary. The Chapter received its charter in 1997 focused on offering women throughout the Circle City and the state of Indiana a leadership platform to connect, engage, influence, and advance growth in the business community. NAWBO-Indianapolis is the second largest NAWBO chapter in the nation. We are frequently a model for other chapters. We have received national recognition for our one-page business plan, our member engagement and retention success, and our educational programs. None of these accomplishments would be possible without the vision and leadership of our founding members and board of directors, and the support of our engaged membership and corporate partners. As we look to the future, this chapter remains dedicated to being THE resource for women business owners when it comes to developing strategic relationships, prospecting, advocating for small business, and educating women in business. Watch for our growth and new programs this year! The possibilities of what we can achieve in the next twenty-one years are limitless…and ours to create. We invite you to THINK NAWBO FIRST as you consider partners who can support you and your business. When there is a procurement opportunity, search our member and corporate partner directories, on our website, for products and services. Congratulations to the 2018 Visionary Award nominees and recipients. We wish you growth and success as you continue to Rise.

MEMBER OF THE YEAR Beth Rovazzini B&W Plumbing and Heating Co., Inc.
Beth Rovazzini is the President and owner of B&W Plumbing and Heating Company. The company was founded by Beth’s parents in their Eagledale garage in 1961. Upon her graduation from IU with an accounting degree, Beth began her career as a staff accountant at Arthur Anderson. It didn’t take long for her to realize that she loved accounting, but not being a staff accountant. An opportunity for change presented itself soon after to run a struggling restaurant that her parents had invested in. She began managing with the intent to organize and sell it. The excitement and challenge involved in running a restaurant kept her busy and she continued there for 5 years. In 1988, the restaurant was sold and Beth made the jump to B&W, initially in an accounting role. As time passed, she gradually took on more of a leadership role in the company. As her parents began making plans for retirement, she along with 2 partners, purchased the business. Owning a small business is both a challenging and exhilarating process! Being a woman that owns a construction business is like being at the top of the roller coaster every day! It is the human connection that matters most to Beth. The interaction with customers, staff and business associates is what brings her to work every day. The satisfaction of helping a customer solve a problem is like none she has ever experienced. She is equally committed to her peers in business. She currently serves in the Programs Committee of NAWBO, where she’s been a member since 2003. She is also the Vice President of the Speedway Chamber of Commerce and on the Better Business Bureau’s Board of Directors.

| CELEBRATING 30 YEARS OF H.R. 5050
30 YEARS OF H.R. 5050 It’s hard to believe, but as recently as the 1980s, women who
dreamed of owning businesses faced myriad barriers, including the inability to get a business loan without a male co-signer,
difficulty getting federal contracts, not having a seat at the policy
table and a lack of gender-sensitive entrepreneurial education and
training. These obstacles were due, at least in part, to a lack of understanding about the impact of female business owners.
The National Association of Women Business Owners had long
been advocating for better business policy. The Small Business
Administration report demonstrated how little was known about the complexity and diversity of women-owned businesses and the off-base thinking and approach to public policy that had
resulted. This became the catalyst for a more concerted effort. Led by NAWBO’s then-president, Gillian Rudd, a group of
women, including Littlejohn, pushed presidential candidates

White House Briefing — Carey Stacy with George Bush — May ‘90
and members of Congress to provide more policy support of female entrepreneurs.
At a news conference on the steps of the
US Capitol in late 1988, Rudd called out the SBA on its misguided report. “She said we
need data and research on women business owners, banks need to stop demanding that men sign for loans for women and we need
more education and...[business] counseling across the country to help women to grow their businesses even more,” explains Dr.
Terry Neese, a serial entrepreneur and CEO/ president of the Institute for Economic Empowerment of Women.
Through intense lobbying, strategic communications and grassroots political action,
NAWBO educated elected officials and agency staffers on the economic impact of womenowned businesses (WBOs). They showed how much more job growth, wealth generation and trade could be produced if women had the same support and access to business ownership as men.
