Dr. Deanne CranfordWesley is Appointed As Director Cybersecurity at North Carolina Central University (NCCU)
D
r. Cranford-Wesley manages the Cybersecurity concentration in the School of Business, Computer Information System Program at NCCU. She directs operations in the innovative cybersecurity lab and is the advisor for the Women in Cybersecurity (Wicys) student chapter at NCCU. During her tenure at Forsyth Technical Community College, she managed 10 technical programs in the Davis iTEC Cybersecurity Center and taught in the cybersecurity program. She developed curriculum for post-secondary education as well as K-12. She also led efforts on behalf of the Center of Academic Excellence and Regional Resource Center, where one of her initiatives focuses on the K-12 cybersecurity pipeline. She has designed curriculum for K-12 programs as a consultant in the 4-year space. She is a previous member of the CyberWatch Cybersecurity Task Force. Dr. Cranford-Wesley previously worked as Department Coordinator and Associate Professor for 12 years. She currently is an executive board member for the NC TECH Association, an Executive Board member
for the NC Chamber, and a member of the Executive Board for the Colloquium of Information System Security board. Dr. Cranford-Wesley is a cybersecurity professional and has appeared as a subject matter expert on Fox8 and Time Warner News discussing innovations in cybersecurity and cyber-attacks. In August 2019, she appeared on WXI12 discussing the value of a GenCyber Girls Camp hosted by Forsyth Technical Community College. Dr. Cranford-Wesley has a vast amount of experience in curriculum design, grant writing, and program evaluation. She has a PhD in Education Leadership with a focus in Instructional Technology and is a published author of various technology related articles. Furthermore, she has obtained the following certifications throughout her career: IC3, Security+, Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), and Cisco Certified Instructor (CCAI).

The Consortium Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Dr. Beverly Bryant, Hospitality and Tourism Founder and Professor, is the editor of the Consortium Journal of Hospitality and Tourism. The Consortium supports and facilitates research through the publication of its journal (The Consortium Journal of Hospitality and Tourism). The journal is published annually and distributed online and face to face during the Annual I-CHRIE Conference.
The Journal of Business Ecosystems (JBE) Dr. Kayvan Lavassani, Associate Professor, is the editor of Journal of Business Ecosystems (JBE) The Journal of Business Ecosystems (JBE) is established with the support of notable scholars and practitioners from around the world to address this gap. The journal follows the holistic view of the ecosystem as described by Ludwig von Bertalanffy (1968) within the General System Theory (GST). The term ecosystem in the title of the journal is presented in the plural form to illustrate the dynamic role of multiple actors, communities and multiple layers of networks in the complex and intergraded global business environment.

CCU & Faculty/Staff published an article about the impact of COVID-19 on Business Students’ Transition from Faceto-Face to Online Instructional Delivery in the Southwestern Business Administration

The spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) led most educational systems to require an emergency lockdown to limit the spread of the virus. This led to the interruption of institutional operations, including the delivery of education. While some colleges and universities offered online programs and courses, in March of 2020, most institutions of higher education shifted to 100% online instruction. The shift was immediate-- a week after the recommended shutdowns of the federal government. The sudden transition from on-campus learning to distance learning was challenging for both students and faculty. The shift required specific, detailed, and intense preparation in a short amount of time. This was a challenge as some students did not have the resources to attend classes virtually. The purpose of this research was to identify and assess current challenges students faced at the beginning of the pandemic-
RQ1: What were the major educational challenges students experienced due to COVID -19 Pandemic? RQ2: As a result of the online mandate, did students feel engaged and were provided informative information? RQ3: What family issues impacted students’ educational experiences due to COVID-19? RQ4: To what extent did students experience challenges with classroom instruction? RQ5: What environmental factors impacted student success? RQ6: What was the financial impact on the student and their families due to COVID-19? The COVID-19: Impact on business Students Transition from Face to Face to Online Instructional Delivery survey results from 274 students from two institutions of higher education indicated that in general

students were able to adapt to the new normal of course, delivery. Many of the students were able to complete their studies with few challenges, while some did not have the resources to access the internet. Some students indicated that they enjoyed taking online classes; they received encouragement from professors; students spent more time completing course assignments. Online courses normally dictate that the professor spends more time planning an online course and the students must spend more time completing the assignments. A few of the participants had no access to a computer, no access to library services and they had to share a computer with multiple individuals. Many of the students indicated that COVID-19 did impact their ability to stay enrolled during the semester. Ninety percent (90%) indicated they will return to school in fall 2021. Twelve percent (12%) indicated that they will not return due to the COVID-19 impact.
While students had challenges, it did not discourage their desire to attend. However, many institutions, included the ones featured in this report recognized a dip in enrollment between the Fall and Spring indicating that some students opted to take a break from studies. While most of the students reported neutral responses to the survey, they ranked university and faculty responsiveness as high. We are curious to know now that students have been in these circumstances for a year whether they fully embrace online education or if they are ready to return to face-to-face learning. Notwithstanding future circumstances that threaten to shift the delivery of instruction in the future, it will benefit schools of businesses to fully embrace online instruction such that students are guaranteed adequate instruction and seamless degree progression. NCCU School of Business Receives $400K Knowledge Challenge Grant to study racial equity in entrepreneurship DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University School of Business will launch an Entrepreneurship Ecosystem Research Clinic & Lab to expand the pipeline of minority entrepreneurs thanks to a fouryear, $400,000 grant from the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation. The clinic and lab, led by principal investigator and School of Business director of entrepreneurship Henry McKoy, Ph.D., will support entrepreneurs and communities.
creating more equitable entrepreneurial and business ecosystems across the United States, while diversifying the entrepreneurial research pipeline. The project also will launch a national database to provide a better understanding of how to spur successful, diverse entrepreneurship, specifically in the African American community. “The racial wealth gap in the U.S. and globally is growing, and more so as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic,” McKoy said.
“We see the inequalities all around us. There has never been a more important time in our society than now to create a more inclusive, diverse, and equitable economy. Entrepreneurship is a key foundation of that. These resources will allow NCCU, our students, and our faculty to be at the forefront of that intellectual and applied work, both locally and nationally.” The funding was provided through the Kauffman Foundation’s Knowledge Challenge program and is one of only 13 such grants awarded in the United States. The Kauffman Foundation is a private, nonprofit foundation that supports entrepreneurship and education nationwide to increase opportunities that allow all people to learn, to take risks, and achieve success.
The funding will support fellowships for 100 undergraduate students and 12 faculty members across different disciplines at NCCU. Student fellows will engage in important research focused on improving entrepreneurial and economic equity in Durham and across the United States. Faculty fellows will learn to integrate entrepreneurial research into their disciplines and lead a sub-group of undergraduate entrepreneurial research fellows.

Dr. Henry McKoy Workshops also will be developed to introduce additional faculty members to entrepreneurial research. In addition, 40 summer internships will afford students the opportunity to return to their hometowns and other communities to work with local governments to examine the degree of equity present in municipal entrepreneurial ecosystems.
The Knowledge Challenge is open to proposals from those conducting research in universities and other academic institutions, laboratories, companies, nonprofit organizations, and as individuals. The goal of the Knowledge Challenge is to produce tangible insights for entrepreneurs, entrepreneurship program and policy design, business leaders, and researchers.

NCCU CIS professor, Dr. Alisha Malloy Receives PwC Digital Engagement Award
U
nderstanding the importance of continuously improving technology curriculum in an ever-evolving cyber universe, NCCU Business, CIS Professor, Dr. Alisha Malloy, saw this award as a great opportunity to introduce students to a resource designed to enhance their tech awareness and digital fitness. The PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Data Fitness App (DFA) is an industry app that has collections of information on the latest technologies, digital disruptions, and how technology impacts business strategy. The award grants $10,000 to support resources for students to be able to stay informed, engaged, and aware of digital trends.
2020 semester the students will complete a survey to determine their use and experience with PwC DFA to determine if it can be implemented in all sections of CIS 2400 and CSB 2000.

Finally, during the Spring 2021 semester, the Digital Technology Ambassadors will develop real-world projects for external clients; be engaged in the analysis and research of the impact of the integration of PwC DFA into the curriculum; and/or start and complete industry certifications.
First, during the Fall 2020 semester, the PwC Digital Fitness App will be piloted in one section of CIS 2400 – Fundamentals in Information Systems and CSB 2000 – Introduction to Computer Science and Business. Students will use the PwC DFA to determine their baseline Digital Fitness score. The classes will have Voice and Choice graded assignments that students will be able to select Fitness Plan and Topics to further their digital fitness and continue their lifelong learning with technology. Second, during the Fall 2020 semester, students in CSB 2000 and CIS 4600 – System Analysis and Design will engage in Design Thinking and Agile Methodology Training utilizing the PwC DFA and other resources. “Our students are always using apps, why not give them one that will not only improve their digital literacy in the class but will also make them lifelong learners with technology well after the class is over,” said Dr. Malloy.

NCCU Business Launches A State-of-the-Art Cybersecurity Lab ON OCTOBER 20, 2020, NCCU Business faculty, staff, students, alumni, administration, and corporate partners celebrated the launch of a brand-new Cybersecurity Lab. This lab is the perfect complement to a new program opportunity for students interested in pursuing a degree in Information Technology with a concentration in cybersecurity. Directly responding to the global need for increased cyber protection particularly during a time when more and more interaction and transactions are happening digitally, this program has been developed to provide the
instruction required to be significant and immediate contributors to this industry. Gartner reports that the worldwide information security market will reach $170.4 billion in 2022. There has been a 350% growth in open cybersecurity positions from 2013-2021. There is a critical call for talent to support the market needs and NCCU is ready for this important mission. “We are so grateful to have received a grant to support the construction of this lab for our students,” said Dr. Anthony Nelson, Dean NCCU Business, “this project has been a labor

of love as our faculty worked tirelessly to ensure the physical structure of the lab not only has the requisite state of the art equipment necessary to help support cybersecurity education but has a curriculum that will advance the innovation and instruction needed to sustain a well versed and dynamic program.” The need to protect our networks, systems, devices, and data from cybercriminals, cyberthreats and cyberattacks has become imperative for our businesses and society as a whole. “The ever-changing and complex strategies, tools and techniques needed to mitigate security breaches and really become more proactive than reactive in regard to our security policies and practices has made the need for our cybersecurity program and cybersecurity lab essential for our students to understand, analyze, incorporate and apply these skills,” reflects Dr. Donna Grant CIS Chair. “The global need for digital protection is a call that we must answer and with the new cybersecurity lab and curriculum, our professors, industry partners and corporate leaders are ready to provide students with what they need to be viable influencers and contributors to this area,” said Dr. Yolanda B. NCCU to Offer In-Demand Scaled Agile Framework Certification Courses Clayton Mack
DURHAM, N.C. – The Division of Extended Studies through the Office of Continuing Education and the School of Business at North Carolina Central University is sponsoring Scaled Agile training and certification. Through Scaled Agile Framework® (SAFe®), learners are exposed to core Agile and SAFe® roles, preparing students for careers as change agents, Agile professionals, and technical delivery leadership across business and technology. North Carolina Central University is partnering with EBK Syndicate, a minority owned consultant organization based in Charlotte, N.C., to provide public training offerings for individuals and organizations interested in learning about implementing SAFe® and related roles, competencies, and capabilities. SAFe® is a leading approach to doing Agile at scale, enabling businesses to rapidly produce new, high-quality, innovative, digitally enabled products and services. NC Central University and Duke University Pitch Competition Basketball Legends and Entrepreneurial Leaders DURHAM, N.C. – Local college students and recent alumni who founded or lead growing businesses showcased their companies to investors who are committed to investing in Black-founded and Black-led businesses to compete for up to $25,000 through a new Duke University-North Carolina Central University (NCCU) program. “pitch: A Competition for Black Student-Founders” took place virtually on April 8-9, 2021. The Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at Duke’s Fuqua School of Business and the North Carolina Central University School of Business are co-promoters of “pitch,” in partnership with the Duke Innovation and Entrepreneurship Initiative and Resilient Ventures. The two-day event provided transformative workshops, business coaching and an opportunity for participants to pitch their businesses to interested investors. Participants heard first-hand about the successes and woes of business leadership and entrepreneurship. ”Black businesses continue to be marred with a variety of barriers that stand in the way of successful launch or sustainability,” said Anthony Nelson, dean of the NCCU School of Business. “This ‘pitch’ experience promises to provide student business founders with access to resources that will significantly enhance the opportunity for growth and development of their businesses. The event concluded on April 9 with a keynote discussion with Rodney Sampson, executive chairman and CEO of Opportunities Hub; Karen LeVert, president of Southeast TechInventures; and Dan Roselli, co-founder of Queen City Healthtech. Beyond the possibility of prize money, “pitch” is focused on delivering a robust experience for the participating entrepreneurs, who can expect expert feedback from investors knowledgeable about their industry. Each cohort of entrepreneurs will be appropriately sized so participants can be seen and mentored during and after the competition. The participation gaps faced by Black startup funders and founders are staggering. For example, 1% of venture-backed companies have Black founders, 3% of investment partners at VC firms are Black, and fewer than
50 startups led by Black women have raised $1 million or more. “We believe business activity provides a remarkable opportunity for societal transformation,” said Bill Boulding, dean of Duke’s Fuqua School of Business. “We therefore have the responsibility of using the platform of business as a force multiplier to tackle pernicious and persistent issues of racial equity, justice, and fairness that plague society.” “pitch” supports three of the pillars of Duke’s strategic framework – empowering the boldest thinkers, forging purposeful partnerships, and engaging a global network. “pitch” is also aligned with North Carolina Central University’s commitment to creating a culture of creativity, innovation and collaboration among the broader community in order to spur economic development.

orth Carolina Central University Master of Business Administration program has introduced a Real Estate concentration to its growing MBA course offerings. “Real estate is a central part of our daily interactions-encompassing where we live, work, shop and eat. orth Carolina Central University School of Business introduced a new Master in Business Administration (MBA) degree in fall 2020 designed to take advantage of online learning. The online option was added to NCCU’s MBA offerings in recognition of the popularity of such programs in managing coursework during the COVID-19 pandemic. “The Enhanced Online MBA was curated to meet the industry needs for leadership in critical areas: Marketing, Data Analytics, Hospitality and Tourism,” Real Estate and Wealth Management said Diedre Guion Peoples, Ph.D., interim director of the MBA Program. “We are excited to be able to offer a wider array of course offerings to a broader market of prospective industry leaders.” This curriculum will offer graduate students access to industry professionals, networks, and instructors for education in consumer behavior, healthcare marketing, brand management and strategic selling.

UNC and NCCU Business Students Create Symposium to Address Issues of Diversity in Business Business students from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and North Carolina Central University hosted a virtual symposium titled Sustaining the Momentum of AntiRacism in Business on April 9, 2021. Students from UNC and NCCU came together to address issues surrounding inequities within corporate systems and to assess the role everyone plays in being conduits for change. Amid the backdrop of a global pandemic in 2020, the country experienced several months of social unrest. Within these months, young
people from across the globe rose in solidarity to march and protest to bring attention to systemic issues that continue to sully the lives of black and brown people. Is this awareness a mere moment or is it a sustainable movement for the country? This question is driving students to provide a platform for honest discussion and collaborative coordination with the goal of sparking a cultural awareness. As the conversations continue, real change can be made.

NCCU School of Business Tackles Social Justice Issues with High Schoolers at the 2021 Virtual Summer Youth Business and Entrepreneurship Academy

s the world continues to revel in Covid pandemic and social justice issues, NCCU School of Business facilitated its 2nd virtual summer academy for high school students in July. The Summer Youth Business and Entrepreneurship (SYBEA) introduced 22 students from across the country to a virtual portal of self-discovery with workshops
developed to spur their innovation, aspiration, and problem-solving capabilities. “Each year we are able to welcome students to NCCU and our business program through entrepreneurial education that centers on interpersonal and technical skill building in order to spur their own business ownership

The 5-day virtual experience took students through workshops that featured social business leaders from across the country with skill building workshops in branding, finance, entrepreneurship, and leadership. The students also had the opportunity to meet with their peers to discuss what they can do to bring about solutions to societal injustices that are affecting their communities.
From presenting opportunities to liaison with School Resource Officers to mitigate school to prison to pipeline to providing financial literacy services from young people to young people, the students were able to cultivate a number of programs/organizations that could be developed to make a significant difference to their communities today. Durham, NC | On June 30, 2021, North Carolina Central University broke ground on the construction of a 76,608 sq foot new School of Business building. Located on the corner of Alston and Lawson Street the building will provide an impressive gateway to North Carolina Central University’s campus. “Our new building will be a collaborative, innovative, and inspiring space that mirrors that of some of the most respected and leading organizations in the world,” said Dr. Anthony Nelson, Dean of NCCU’s School of
Business. “We want to prepare students for what to expect both in skillset and workplace environment.” The building will include a new culinary lab and dining room to support the Hospitality and Tourism department allowing for more practical application to students’ hospitality instruction. There will be 600 sq feet of business incubator space to support the cultivation of student businesses and promote their entrepreneurial aspirations. The building will also include a trading room to allow for practical application of financial

management programs, an innovation lab to give space for technological advancements, and a behavioral research lab with a focus study room to give students and professional development coordinators access to experiential instruction. With a commitment to continued community outreach and student development, this building will house services that will provide financial counseling and workshops through the Peggy Ward Financial Literacy Center, a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance for low-

NCCU Alumni Names Dean’s Office in new School of Business Building for Former Professor

CCU alumni Cornell Slade (Business, ’75) and Bess Slade (Sociology, 75) of Wilmington, N.C., made a $100,000 gift to the School of Business in honor of retired faculty member Randal M. Rogers. The gift calls for the dean’s’ office in the new School of Business to be named in Rogers’ honor. Cornell Slade is a member of the School of Business Board of Visitors. He and his wife have been generous contributors as well as active volunteers supporting the growth and develop of programs at NCCU. The Slades recall their former professor as a “respected instructor.” “He was a presence on campus,” Cornell Slade explained. “I recall seeing him walk around interacting with students. He was a good person just to talk to, even in an informal setting. He showed us how to be successful yet approachable.” The couple’s contribution ensures that the business school will have additional resources as it becomes a state-of-the-art institution.
“We need to have students leave our campus confident that they can compete with the best,” Cornell Slade said. “They must be willing to venture out to seek new opportunities and learn how and be willing to move mountains.” The Slades have achieved success as owners of Best Egg, supplier of the egg products served in McDonald restaurants. Cornell Slade is also a partner in 5B Capital LLC. Rogers is triple Eagle, having received a bachelor’s degree in commerce in 1962, a master’s in business administration in 1968, and a law degree in 1972. He lives in Durham with his wife Gracie, NCCU Class of 1967. “I always want to have an impact, not make an impression,” Cornell Slade said. “I want future students to go into the world with a desire to cause change. I want them to challenge the status quo. I don’t really care if they know who I am. But I want them to build confidence in themselves and pride in their educational heritage.”

Longstanding relationship between NCCU School of Business and Cisco spurs New Opportunities in Cyber Education DURHAM, N.C. – Cisco is extending its decade-long support of technology education at North Carolina Central University School of Business by helping to develop a new cybersecurity certificate program for the university.
“Our recent contribution to NCCU’s cybersecurity program is a testament to our commitment and drive to assist HBCUs,” said Michelle Witherspoon, Chief of Operations, People, Culture, Cisco Security & Trust Organization.
Cisco has provided $230,000 over the last year in support of scholarships, development of a cybersecurity lab, and assistance in creating a new cybersecurity minor. The certificate program now coming Online will be open to business students and the wider community.
“NCCU is one of several HBCUs that Cisco’s Security and Trust organization directly targets through its university program to create and foster an ongoing pipeline of students to professional hires.”

A Cisco networking lab has also been established with help from the multinational technology firm.

Iris L. Hudson (71) School of Business alumnus, was recently re-appointed to the Pamlico Community College (PCC) Board of Trustees by NC Governor Roy Cooper. Iris is deeply honored to serve a second term on PCC’s Trustee Board, where she was selected as Chairperson of the Personnel Committee and a member of the Policy Committee. PCC is currently ranked Number 1 nationwide for student educational outcomes from WalletHub. In addition, PCC was recently ranked Number 2 as the best community college in America by Smart Asset. This national finance technology company used U.S. Department of Education data for more than 800 community colleges across the USA for its publication, Best Community Colleges in America- 2021 Edition. Iris is a retired Associate Director from the Department of Homeland Security Audit Liaison Office and Inspectors General Offices in Washington, DC. She is a life member of the NCCU National Alumni Association and continues to be a member of the NCCU-DC Metro Alumni Chapter. Iris is also a caregiver to her loving Mother on the coast of NC, a mentor and an active member in church and community affairs. Iris says her retirement has been both busy and rewarding.

NCCU Business Students Wins First Place in the SFE&PD Student Ambassador Stock Competition
F
rom February through April 30, 2021, the Society for Financial Education & Professional Development, Inc. (SFE&PD) facilitated a Stock Market Competition. Each school began with $10,000 in virtual cash to purchase stock. The school that had the most aggregate dollar gain for all stocks purchases would be declared the first-place winner. Student Ambassadors at North Carolina Central University (NCCU) won the 1st place prize of $1000, Bennett College won the 2nd place prize of $750, and Medgar Evers College won the 3rd place prize of $500.
“The fact that there were a few other schools participating in the stock competition is what really made it interesting for me,” said Akinleye. “Prior to selecting our stocks, my team and I took a brief look at past trends of how said stock was performing (technical analysis). This included keeping up to date with current events and world news. I noticed certain dips and spikes throughout the competition and tried to pinpoint what drove the market at whatever time. Hopefully the SFE&PD Ambassador Program will provide more opportunities like such for students to advance their skill set.”
Achieving the largest stock gain, Business Administration - Financial Analytics majors Ambrose Bond and Onaopemipo Akinleye took home the top prize of $1,000.

Durham, NC, January 29, 2021 — The Department of Hospitality and Tourism Administration is proud to recognize, Imani Sharpe recipient of the Triangle Area Hotel Motel Association (TAHMA) Scholarship. The TAHMA Scholarship is given to one candidate that is enrolled in a culinary or hospitality program, has at least 3.0 GPA, and is enthusiastic to become a part of the hospitality or culinary industry. Ms. Sharpe met all requirements, while also submitting a letter of recommendation and an essay. WHEN SHARPE WAS ASKED HOW SHE FEELS RECEIVING THIS HONOR, SHE SAID: “To have had the honor of being the recipient of the TAHMA scholarship means everything to me, it is such a proud moment for me to be recognized by an organization that is in my field. When first entered the virtual meeting to receive the award, I was in shock at who all was on the Zoom, and I must admit was a little intimidated because of the number of presidents and heads of departments of wellknown companies all there to recognize me. Now that I’ve received the scholarship, I can continue to keep working on my career goals and am able to continue tapping into that potential that they all saw.” Dr. Po-Ju Chen, Hospitality and Tourism department chair, is in agreement with TAHMA’s decision, “It is because of Imani’s determination and hard work in pursuing excellence to earn the recognition from the Triangle Area Hotel Motel Association. We cannot express our sincere appreciate for the TAHMA’s support to hospitality education in supporting students like Ms. Sharpe, to continue pursuing their dreams as the future leaders of hospitality and tourism industry.”

Family Fare Convenience Stores Establishes $25,000 Endowed Entrepreneurship Program Fund at NCCU By Ayana Hernandez Posted December 18, 2020, 3:14PM

amily Fare’s Shared Purpose Initiative has created and fully endowed an Entrepreneurship Endowment at North Carolina Central University (NCCU)’s School of Business. After years of planning and collaborating with NCCU leaders, Dr. Lee Barnes, president of Family Fare, Jeff Mercer, Business Consultant for Family Fare and Jay Harris, owner of Harris Beverages recently presented the gift
to Johnson O. Akinleye, Ph.D., chancellor of NCCU and the NCCU School of Business and Division of Institutional Advancement teams. The gift establishes the Family Fare Endowed Entrepreneurship Program Fund and will be matched with a Title III federal grant for a total impact of $50,000. Akinleye expressed his gratitude: “I am thankful that local companies like Family Fare and Harris Beverages give back to the

The School of Business prepares students by emphasizing the key ingredients for success in today’s future business leaders. These ingredients include entrepreneurial thinking, and this endowment helps us to further our mission.” Jeff Mercer, a member of NCCU’s Board of Visitors, revealed that “North Carolina Central University provided me a foundation that I have utilized in my business endeavors. I want to give back with not only my time on the
board, but in a financially recognizable way for helping students understand and appreciate entrepreneurship.” The funding will be used to establish an Innovation and Entrepreneurship Hub that will serve as a co-working space and training ground for NCCU students interested in launching entrepreneurial ventures. Family Fare Convenience Stores is headquartered in Durham, N.C., and has over 100 locations throughout North Carolina and Virginia. Harris Beverages is the premier distributor of beverages to stores in an eight-county area in central North Carolina and Durham’s only locally owned and operated beverage wholesaler.

Hospitality and Tourism Administration receives donations from alumni and industry partners Alumni Endowed Scholarship On December 30, 2020 Amanda Wells Rodgers, ( a 2006 Alumnus of the Hospitality and Tourism Department) and her husband Andy established a $50,000.00 endowed scholarship for the Hospitality and Tourism Department.

The Criteria for Scholarship Recipients include:
During his long and well accomplished career, he has managed two historic, university-owned hotels, worked at a four-star desert resort, served as director of operations at a regional hotel chain, opened two golf and country clubs, and worked in golf course development.
Recipients must be a student in the Hospitality and Tourism major enrolled at NCCU in good standing in the NCCU School of Business. Preference will be given to incoming freshman or transfer students from Alamance, Chatham, or Durham Counties in North Carolina. Recipients must have a 3.0 or higher GPA and maintain a 3.0 to be considered for renewal. and Recipients must demonstrate financial need, as determined by the Office of Student Financial Aid.
Ed Rehkopf is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy and received a Master degree in hospitality management from Cornell’s School of Hotel Administration.
Understanding the importance of hospitality education, he had donated an assortment of books, journal writing, articles, training books and a variety of infographics relating to information topics in the hospitality industry.
