This quarter, Shechem Home has provided care to a total of twenty-six (26) children: twelve (12) boys and fourteen (14) girls, aged between 2 and 18 years old Additionally, twelve newly rescued survivors have been welcomed into our shelter’s care

Five survivors have also been referred to a residential care facility to receive ongoing services and support for their rehabilitation, along with their families

RENOVATIONS UNDERWAY

Shechem Children’s Home is thrilled to share the latest updates on the renovations currently underway at our beloved children's home. Thanks to your unwavering support, we have embarked on a transformative journey through Phases 1 to 4 of this essential project.

These renovations are not just about upgrading our facilities; they are about ensuring the safety, comfort, and well-being of the children in our care. Upgrades to plumbing and electrical systems will boost our resilience against potential risks like floods and fires. Additionally, we are converting our current office space into a calming sensory room, providing a safe haven where our children can find peace during moments of distress.

Expansions in the dining and living areas will provide much-needed space for activities and foster a sense of community among our children. Furthermore, improvements to our bedrooms will increase our capacity from 15 to 25 beds, allowing us to welcome more children into our home. A designated clinic area will also soon be established, further enhancing our ability to provide essential medical care on-site. Currently in the midst of Phase 2, regular supervision meetings with our contractors and architects ensure that progress remains on track. However, we have encountered a challenge with the kitchen area. Upon assessment, it has become clear that the materials are no longer suitable, necessitating its temporary closure for the safety and hygiene of our kitchen supplies and equipment. We appreciate your understanding as we address this issue promptly and effectively.

As we continue with these crucial renovations, we humbly ask for your prayers. Please pray for continued provision to meet any additional financial needs, especially for the refurbishment of our kitchen area. Pray also for the timely acquisition of necessary furnishings and equipment to complete this phase successfully.

A JOURNEY OF RESILIENCE AND RENEWAL

“I want to emerge as a new and better Adira when I leave Shechem,” Adira claims. She is an 18-year-old survivor who faced significant challenges stemming from a broken family dynamic and emotional neglect, particularly from her father. Seeking a father figure's affection, she entered into premature romantic relationship and grew rebellious towards her mother, leading to low self-esteem and doubt. Coping by staying with friends, she engaged in risky behaviors like smoking and drinking. She accepted an compromising photos, unknowingly financially needing. Upon psychotherapy healthier coping adjusted well, responsibility. aware of her feelings. Reflecting on her journey, she expressed gratitude for Shechem, realizing the importance of family support and aspiring to improve herself.

Adira, who had previously left home and had a live-in boyfriend, stopped her education but now attends tutorials at Shechem with a renewed commitment to study. She dreams of becoming a dentist or social worker, willing to end her relationship to focus on her goals. She credits Shechem for strengthening her resilience and equipping her with coping skills and knowledge about her rights, including protection from exploitation.

PRAYER REQUESTS

VEHICLE: We ask for your prayers as we seek to acquire a new shelter vehicle crucial for transporting children to appointments such as court hearings, psychological assessments, medical appointments, reintegration efforts, and other essential home-related activities.

RENOVATION: The SCHI team and partners are delighted that the shelter renovation is currently underway. However, there remains a significant need for financial support to complete the remaining phases of the project. Please join us in prayer for the necessary funds throughout this renovation process.
