PROGRAM UPDATE: REFUGEE AND IMMIGRANT SUPPORT

Your Impact: Care and Compassion for the Journey

Worldwide, 117.3 million people have been forcibly displaced from their homes due to war, climate disasters, persecution, and crime, according to UNHCR. When people are forced to flee their homes for fear of their lives, they often set out quickly and with very few resources to support themselves. In Honduras, nine Nazarene churches are partnering with Nazarene Compassionate Ministries to provide much needed care and supplies, such as food, emergency medical care, clothing, hygiene products, and shoes, for children and adults who have fled their homes in search of safety and stability. These churches have seen congregants of all ages commit to serving migrants who are passing through, with the love of Christ as well as praying and fasting for these neighbors. Local businesses are partnering with churches to provide needed supplies at low or no-cost donations. The supply of resources has allowed local Nazarenes to be the hands and feet of Jesus by praying with people, connecting them with resources, and meeting their essential needs to help people stay safe and healthy on their journey.

On the bustling streets of Danli, Honduras, stories of people’s experiences on their immigration journey can be overheard—stories of why they had to flee their homes for safety, stories of the kindness and treachery faced on their journeys, and stories of their hopes for safety and security in the future. At the NCM medical tent, children and adults receive much-needed medical care and meals. One young woman approached the tent with her two small children to receive medical care. By the end of her time there, she had prayed with volunteers and committed her life to Christ. Later, a young man reported that he had fallen o a moving truck and was experiencing a lot of pain. The NCM team provided medical and spiritual care for him. “You people, treat us with love and respect, I can feel the di erence, then I knew you were believers,” he said. “Thank you for lending us a hand.”
