on behalf of the East alabama Women’s Council of Realtors®, welcome to the 10th annual tour of Homes! this tour is an opportunity for us to introduce you to some of the outstanding new construction offerings from local builders in the auburn and opelika area. this event is free to the public. the East alabama Women’s Council of Realtors® was formed in 2006 and our tour of Homes has been a yearly tradition. one of our goals was to showcase that real estate is local, and offer consumers a snapshot of the latest trends in new construction homes are available in our auburn-opelika market. another important goal for our members was to give back to our community. proceeds from the tour support a scholarship endowment our chapter of the WCR created with the auburn university’s College of architecture, Design and Construction. this endowment seeks to recognize and support outstanding students and encourages growth, entrepreneurship and leadership in the fields of building East Alabama Business Resource Group science and architecture and is fully endowed this year! In 2006, the East Alabama Chapter of the Women’s Council of REALTORS was formed. At that time, the members saw a need for a tour of homes in our community, as many surrounding communities were offering. In conjunction with the National Association of REALTORS, our goal was to encourage buyers to realize that real estate is local, and offer the consumer a way to view a snapshot of what types of homes in varying price points were available in their local market. Over the years, the tour of homes has transformed into an excellent resource for builders to display their creativity and new building concepts each year, while still portraying to the consumer housing options in a variety of price ranges and increase market interest and activity during the height of the selling season. While the tour of homes raises funds to keep the Women’s Council of REALTORS operational, it also gives members an opportunity to give back to the overall industry financially. Members sought to encourage females to establish a career in a field related to the housing industry, therefore, we reached out to the College of Architecture, Design and Construction and established the scholarship fund! The members of WCR feel that it is important to encourage growth in education of industry professionals, and with an industry that has so few female professionals, it was the goal of the members to help encourage young students to gain an education that will last a lifetime and help build a community!
