Bow. is is a rounded bay window. e shape is created by putting three, five, seven, or nine narrow casement, double-hung, or fixed windows at 10° angles to each other. 8. Awning. is window is hinged across the top and opens outward from the bottom. e design is good for high locations, above a door or another window. 9. Basement hopper. is is the opposite of an awning, hinged at the bottom and opening in from the top. It's usually used to let light and air into basements. 10. Geometric. ese are fixed units that come in a variety of shapes. ey're used alone as an accent, or above a large window or door. SETTING THE SCENE FOR A HALLOWEEN WONDERLAND
Come October, often you can still host a party outdoors. Just let fall's exuberant palette lend a hand with the decorating, suggest Richard Kollath and Ed McCann, who like to layer in atmospheric Halloween accents when entertaining. The designers, authors, and event planners (their most recent book is Faux Flowers; Chronicle Books) advise: "Host a party for adults or families the week before Halloween, then leave the decorations up for trick-or-treaters." You also have a great excuse not to sweep up the leaves, which, scattered across the ground, help set the scene. Autumn foliage, faux crows, candlelight, and plenty of jack-o'-lanterns cast a welcoming spell on an outdoor dessert buffet.

Begin by experimenting with the placement of pumpkins on your shelves. Your tree should gradually widen toward the top, with multiple smaller gourds on higher shelves. Also, if there's a good deal of space between two shelves, you may need to stack pumpkins to fill it (as we did on the bottom shelf here). In that case, trim any stems that interfere with stacking stability. (Concerned about the heft of pumpkins on a particular shelf? Opt for lightweight, faux Funkins. $16-$42; funkins.com) Using this photo as a guide, draw the outline of a tree onto the pumpkins with a felt-tip pen. Start at the bottom and branch out as you move up. (You may need to use a stepladder to reach upper shelves.)
