Outstanding Development Property! 6.75 Acres

k Fredric Road

Historic property outside of LaGrange is a hidden gem Huge 1920s English Tudor style home that is soon to be the largest house ever auctioned in Troup County. Owner Peck Brumby lovingly supervised the construction of the house at 1901 Old Young’s Mill Road from 1997 to 2002, and has lived in it ever since, but he realizes that the climbing of the grand staircases may soon be a little much for him, and he is interested in returning to city life. Brumby, who grew up in a 1920s English Tudor style home in Atlanta, wanted to build a modern home in the same style which “hit all the right buttons.” In addition, he wanted to capture the essence of the old Young family home (which originally stood on the spot and also dated to the ‘20s) and expand on it. He paid attention to the original floor plan and salvaged some of the materials from that house, which he said was well-built. His project almost doubled the size of the 6,000 square foot Young home. Entrusting the construction to Master Builder Ben Parham, who moved to LaGrange in the ‘80s for Act 2 of a long and successful career in commercial and residential construction that began in Atlanta. Brumby, Parham, and trusted craftsmen such as master masons and carpenters genially created together a house that Parham says is “without a doubt one of the most interesting projects” that’s he’s ever had the opportunity to work on. Parham believes that there is not another house in this part of the country that is anything like the Brumby home. VIDEO He compares it to “an English castle with a medieval flavor and Tudor influences.” He notes the castle turrets at the roof, the fifty foot tower, and the massive chimneys. Some of the other features that he finds extremely special include the oak and walnut paneling within, the old Ludowici roof tiles salvaged from the roof of an estate near Asheville, and the ten foot serpentine brick wall with detailed caps that parallels the road. The six bedroom, 8 ½ bathroom, four story home with a full, finished basement has every amenity a modern homeowner might dream of: a grand hall, a butler’s pantry and kitchen, recessed lighting and pendant lantern chandeliers, antiquelooking hardware throughout, custom cabinetry, a spa, a gym, a sauna, a wine cellar, ten heating and air zones, and a security system. The outside amenities, which are just as impressive, include multiple levels of beautiful landscaping, a pool, slate porches and patios, irrigated lawns, underground utilities, and a spacious guest house in the same English Tudor style. All of this sits on approximately 17 acres of property which has a history that makes it even more charming. According to Troup County Historian Clark Johnson, a saw mill and blacksmith shop was present on the land since at least 1834. The Young family acquired the businesses in 1868 and added a grist mill, which was operated by generations of Youngs until 1959. The magnificent Brumby House with its 17 acres will be sold at auction on September 22.
