These two men—Harry Marks and Dr. Robert Moon, respectively—built their company on the principles of providing quality jewelry, friendly service and fair credit while maintaining the highest standards of integrity. Since then, our family has grown to its fourth generation, with six family members working in our stores and Robert Marks— grandson of co-founder Harry Marks—serving as President. CARAT WEIGHT
CLARITY
Carat weight tells you how much a diamond weighs when put on a scale. The more it weighs, the more it’s worth. Don’t be fooled, though, carat weight says nothing about the size of a diamond or any other factors that can lead to beauty.
Clarity describes whether a diamond contains any portion that is not fully crystallized, and under what power magnification that portion is noticeable. This ranges from immediately noticeable (13) to unable to be seen under 10x power magnification (flawless).
COLOR
CUT
Color, in this instance, actually refers to the absence of color. The purest diamond is crystal clear. We use the D-to-Z color-grading system to establish diamond color value. Some colors, such as red or blue, can add to the rarity of a diamond.
Cut refers to two parts of the diamond. The first is the shape (round, princess, pear, oval, marquise, cushion, asscher, etc). The second is how well the diamond is cut, which includes how symmetrical the diamond is and how well it is polished.

OUR PROCESS STEP 1: SKETCH •Our designer will help you create a completely unique piece of jewelry, or even help you fine-tune a design that’s not quite what you want • After we have the idea for your custom piece, the first step is to sketch it out on paper so you can see what your piece of jewelry will look like • When designing your piece, we will always help you stay within your budget
STEP 2: COMPUTER-AIDED DESIGN (CAD) • We have our own CAD designer who travels to all of our stores; they will make a CAD of your piece right in front of you that allows you to see your creation from every angle to make sure that it’s perfect • We also have our own wax mills, 3D printers and wax carvers so you can try on the jewelry and make sure you’re happy with the size and fit

PROFESSIONAL MAINTENANCE
Just like anything you use every day, your jewelry needs regular maintenance. It may be hard to keep up, but just remember: whenever you get your oil changed, you need to stop by the jewelry store and get your jewelry cleaned and checked. We recommend jewelry maintenance at least every 6 months. And we always offer this service for free!
CLEANING YOUR JEWELRY AT HOME
When cleaning your jewelry at home, stick to lukewarm water, mild dish soap, and an extremely soft brush to brush away dirt and grime. (As a reminder for the softer stones like pearls, emeralds and opals, use a soft cloth with no treatments as they can discolor or otherwise harm the stone.)
SOFTER GEMSTONES
For the softer gemstones like pearls and opals, remember the rule: “Last on, first off.” Meaning, if you’re going to an event, put them on last, after your makeup hairspray (these can cause discoloration or damage to these gemstones) and take them off first when you get home.
INSURANCE
Be sure to have your jewelry insured through a homeowners policy or renters insurance. There is nothing worse than damaging or losing a beautiful piece of jewelry and not being able to replace it.
WHEN TRAVELING
Avoid chlorine or saltwater damage by removing all jewelry before going in the hot tub, swimming pool or ocean. Remove all jewelry before applying sunscreen and tanning oil, which can get caught in crevices and coat your jewelry, dulling the look of your gemstones or diamonds. Store all jewelry in a clean, dry place.

HOW SHOULD A RING
Rings should fit snugly on your ring finger but should not be uncomfortably tight. You want to have to pull a bit to get a ring off, but you don’t want it to be so tight that it’s irritating or painful to wear. Note that you definitely don’t want your ring to be loose enough that it can come off on its own, or when your hands shrink from putting them into cold water—such as when washing them or going swimming. That’s a sign that your ring size is too large.
WHAT’S THE BEST WAY TO MEASURE RING SIZE?
The best way to figure out your ring size is to have a professional jeweler take your size using a metal ring sizer. This will provide the most accurate results. While many websites suggest finding your ring size by measuring your finger size with string or a paper print out, we would advise against these methods. String can stretch when pulled taut and paper ring sizers can be printed at the wrong scale. While these ring sizing methods can give you an idea of your approximate ring size, they leave a lot of room for user error, so we generally advise against them when ordering a non-sizeable ring.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO RESIZE A RING?
Typically, it takes one to two weeks to have a ring resized, but the exact timeframe will depend on your jeweler’s schedule and how simple or complex your resize will be.
HOW MUCH DOES RING RESIZING COST?
There’s no set cost for getting an engagement ring or wedding band resized, since the price of a resize usually depends on how complex the work is. If a ring has a simple design and only needs a minor adjustment, resizing it may cost less than $50. In more complicated cases, resizing a ring could cost several hundred dollars.
WHAT DO I DO IF MY RING CAN’T BE RESIZED?
If your engagement ring cannot be resized, you have a couple of options. If your ring is too loose, you could wear a tighter ring on the outside of your engagement ring to help it stay in place. If your ring is too tight or it’s too loose but you don’t want to wear a second ring to keep it in place, you may need to talk to a jeweler about having the ring remade (which we can do for you).
HOW DOES RING RESIZING WORK?
To make a ring smaller, a jeweler will cut out a small piece of the ring’s band, then solder the ring back together seamlessly. To make a ring larger, a jeweler will typically make a cut at the bottom of the ring’s band, then add a small, precisely sized piece of metal.
