Rob Jarvis, PGA I hope this July edition of Full Swing Magazine finds you well. It is sure nice to finally see some comfortable temperatures and at least a few consecutive days of sunshine. Seeing happy faces on our golfers is certainly a welcome sight as well. As you know, we are in full swing (pun definitely intended) with our tournament program. Section Governance is not as active this time of year as in the winter, but I do have some interesting events and news to speak about this month.
I was very fortunate to participate in the Interstate 99 Challenge on June 20th. In case you missed it, this was the first major fundraising initiative for our Foundation. What is Interstate 99? A golf marathon like no other! A team of NEPGA Staff, Professionals, and special guests teamed up to play 99 holes of golf in one day. That in alone would be an impressive feat, but throw in some geography, and now you have something. Our team not only played an extra 9 holes than anticipated, but did so touching ground in each of our Chapter states. The crew started at day break in Vermont, travelled to New Hampshire and then to Maine. From there the guys headed to Massachusetts and finally finished up in Rhode Island. Special thanks are due to our host clubs. Quechee Club, Montcalm, The Ledges, Renaissance, and Kirkbrae Country Club were all wonderful hosts and we could not have made it happen without them. This was no easy task on the individuals participating. It was a physical grind but with the mission of the Foundation in their hearts, they persevered and raised almost $10,000 for the NEPGA Foundation! All of our players had great support from their friends, family, and sponsors who contributed to this very successful initiative. In case you missed it, Kristen Garrone and all of our players posted some wonderful content to our social media outlets. There is also a great recap video so make sure you check all of that stuff out to see how this monumental day unfolded.
The NEPGA now has a State Senator in the board room. David Soucy, PGA was recently appointed by the Governor of Vermont to fill a seat in the state senate! Dave is also the Vermont District Director and a very active NEPGA BOD member. This just goes to show you that there is nothing our NEPGA Professionals can’t do. Dave has shown great leadership throughout his life and his career. He has held every office, including President, in the Vermont Chapter and has chaired several committees along the way. I think it is safe to assume that his experience in PGA Governance has inspired him to get involved even further. In my time with him over the years, I have come to know Dave as a fair and balanced leader and one that will certainly listen to his constituents. He is a great person and there is no doubt that the state of Vermont is go-
ing to benefit from his leadership. I wish him the best of luck in this endeavor and offer my sincere congratulations on this honor.
Last month our District One Director, Noel Gebauer, PGA, organized a conference call with our partner Sections of Northeastern New York and Connecticut. The goal here was not only to give Noel an opportunity to communicate with us what is happening on the national level, but to give us the opportunity to share with him our Section needs. We have been very fortunate to have NEPGA Professional Donnie Lyons as our District One Director for the last three years and I am very pleased to say that Noel is picking up right where he left off. Like Donnie, Mr. Gebauer is a passionate PGA Professional that listens to the Sections he represents and is not afraid to bring our opinions forward on the national level. Ongoing communication within the district is crucial to Noel’s position. If we do not articulate our feelings and ideas to him, it is difficult for him to do so in return. I have enjoyed getting to know him better throughout the past year and am very excited that he is representing us. Having a united and informed district will only benefit all PGA Professionals in our Sections and Noel is doing a great job accomplishing that so far. As summer begins to unfold I hope to see all of you out and playing in events. We have a great schedule coming up with a lot of courses that you certainly don’t want to miss out on. Mike Higgins Summer has arrived! I would like to start my July letter with a few accolades and congratulations. First off to the 15 New England PGA Professionals that traveled to Oregon for the 2017 PNC – great job, and thank you for representing the New England Section so well. A special congrats to Bobby Bruso, PGA, and Matt Zdon, PGA for making the 36 hole cut, to Shawn Warren, PGA and Rich Berberian, Jr, PGA for making the 54 hole cut, and to Rich for a 5th place finish which qualifies him for the 2017
PGA Championship. The Professional National Championship is a grand stage in competitive golf, certainly for club professionals, but two NEPGA Professionals took it to another level and played in one of our Nation’s Open Championships. Kudos to past New England PGA Champions

Chip Johnson, PGA and Ron Philo, PGA for playing in the 2017 United States Senior Open at Salem CC. These NEPGA Guys Are Good. When the summer months arrive there is a shift in our operation for a few months. Education and employment doesn’t stop, but it certainly slows down a bit and there is a shift in our focus. During the summer we are more focused on the implementation of our planning and conducting all NEPGA events. These include our Championships, junior events, Drive, Chip & Putts and our Chapter programs. Just to paint a little bit of a perspective, your Section will conduct 84 events in the month of July. That is an average of 2.7 events per day, and if you remove the weekend days, that means we average 4 events per day. A very impressive accomplishment indeed.
As busy as the New England PGA may be, we also understand how busy PGA Professionals are during the summer months as well. We work very hard to improve our programs year after year, so that we can accommodate your schedules the best we can. I can not tell you how impressed I am with the hours and dedication PGA Professionals put in at their facilities, and then when
they are able to compete in an event, they do so at a high level. I know while you are in the middle of your summer schedules at your facilities you may think your owner, or your members, may not see your hard work, but they do. Keep showing your value by growing the game through programing. Play with your members, and help them improve their games. Keep conducting high quality events that make your members want to participate more and make their guests want to join your facility. Continue to be visible and engaged, and every once in a while take a look at the PGA Professional Badge Ad and remind yourself what you do every day.

Two NEPGA Professionals playing in U.S. Senior Open at Salem Chip Johnson, PGA of Hatherly CC shot a four-over par two-round score of 144 to finish cut after two rounds at the U.S. senior Open in Salem CC in Salem, MA held on June 29-July 2, 2017. Ron Philo, PGA of Stowe Mountain Resort shot a two-round total score of +9, 149 to also finish outside of the cut line for the event. Johnson had a solid opening round in the Open, finishing at just twoover par with a 73. His scorecard was relatively clean through much of the day, making 14 pars in total through the round. He struggled some on the front nine, making bogey on the second hole and double-bogey on the eighth. However, he rebounded on the back,
making a birdie to get to +1. Even with another bogey added to his total, Johnson's +2, 73 score was an achievement in the talented field. Through the second round, Johnson teetered on the border of the cut line, and made a solid push to make the third round of play. With the predicted cut line at +2, he battled through much of the round, balancing strong play with strategy. Starting from the tenth, he made bogey on 12, but came back with birdies on the 13th and 14th to turn at one under for the day at the turn. The front side however, proved more challenging. He made bogey on the 1st, 2nd, 7th, and 8th holes. Even with birdies on
six and nine, his effort would be great but unfortunately not enough to get to the +2 mark; finishing outside the cut line at 144. Philo ran into some difficulties in his first round as well. He started out strong, only making one bogey on the ninth hole to make the turn at +1. This was a very strong score in the field at the halfway point. However, his troubles began late at Salem. He went on to make bogey on 11, 12 and 18; and made double-bogey on the 16th. His second round would unfortunately be much of the same, finishing at +3, 73 in the second round, and +9 149 for the event. Both Johnson and Philo qualified locally through Kernwood CC's qualifier and were the only 2 PGA Professionals from the New England Section in the field. Kenny Perry fired an impressive two-under par score of 68 in the fourth and final round at Salem to finish at 16, 264 for the event to take home the U.S. Senior Open Championship. He carded just two under Kirk Triplett who lead most of the event and finished at -14 266. Playing on the national stage is quite an achievement and the New England PGA is very proud of both Chip and Ron for representing the NEPGA well in a tough and talented field. Way to go Chip and Ron! Berberian finishes T5 at PPC, qualifies for PGA Championship Rich Berberian Jr., PGA shot a four-round total score of oneunder par 286 to finish tied for 5th at the 2017 PGA Professional Championship at the Sunriver Resort in Sunriver, Oregon held on June 18-21, 2017. His top 20 finish secured him a spot at the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow in August. Berberian was lingering around the top of the leaderboard for much of the four-day competition. Through his first two rounds, getting a first look at both the Crosswater and Meadows courses, he fired an impressive 137. This was good enough to be tied for first at the 36-hole cut with Jamie Broce, PGA (Toledo, Ohio), and the rest of the pack following closely behind. However, the third round in the PPC would prove to be much more of a challenge for the defending PGA Professional Champion. Things got tough on Tuesday on the Crosswater course around the 7th hole. Berberian carded a bogey, then a quadruple bogey, and finally another bogey to drop way down the leaderboard. He would rebound slightly, but was unable to make it all the way back, finishing with a sixover par 78 for the day. "I went out there on Tuesday thinking I needed to make birdies," Berberian said to PGA.com’s T.J Auclair. "The course wasn't lending itself to that approach. In the long run, it hurt because I was too aggressive and my misses left me in bad spots and I putted pretty bad." He improved in the fourth andfinal round, and shot a oneunder par 71 to finish with a to-

tal score of one-under par 286, and tied for fifth. His resilience was enough to help him once again punch a ticket to the PGA Championship, which is August 10-13 at Quail Hollow CC in Charlotte, NC. Omar Uresti, PGA of Austin, Texas went on to win the PPC in a playoff over Dave McNabb, PGA, with a final score of fourunder par 283. He gets to take home the championship trophy in 2017, after losing to Berberian in a playoff in the 2016 PPC. Berberian was joined in Oregon by 14 other New England PGA Professionals, almost all of which had qualified through the NEPGA Section Championship. Ron Philo, PGA was the only other player aside from defending champion Berberian who was exempt into the event. Matt Doyle, PGA; Shawn Warren, PGA; Jeff Martin, PGA; Kevin Rhoads, PGA; Eric Barlow; PGA, Chris Trout, PGA, Steven Daly, PGA; Rico Riciputi, PGA; Kirk Hanefeld, PGA; Dan Venezio, PGA; Bob Bruso,
PGA; Matt Zdon, PGA; and Jeff Seavey, PGA, were all in the PPC field as well. Warren played strong in the PGA Professional Championship as well, finishing alongside Berberian as the NEPGA players to make the final cut. Warren had three strong opening rounds, shooting 71 in his first round, 71 in the second, and 73 in the third. However, his struggles came in Wednesday’s final round where he shot 78. Warren finished with a six-over par score of 293 in the event. The New England PGA is incredibly proud of all of its professionals who represented the Section in the PGA Professional Championship. We look forward to another great Section Championship in 2017 at Turner Hill GC and Renaissance, and being able to send more of our professionals to the PPC in 2018.

Oakley CC Team wins Pro-Lady Bill Cunningham, PGA and Sheri Siegel (Oakley CC) shot a three-over-par score of 73 in the gross division to be crowned the next Pro-Lady Champions at Kernwood CC in Salem, Ma on Thursday. The two conquered the rain, wind and team-based format for a hard fought victory. The format of the Pro-Lady of select drive, alternate shot is heavily dependent on teamwork. Cunningham and Siegel excelled at helping each other out of tough situations. Starting from the 14th hole, the duo struggled as the heavy rains began to fall. They made bogey on the 16th and 18th before making the turn to the front side of the course.

Kernwood CC and the NEPGA very much lucked out with the weather on Thursday. Even though it was damp and uncharacteristically cool, some of the most threatening weather in New England missed the Pro-Lady. Even with a couple of showers, the event and fun were able to go on as scheduled. Thank you to Frank Dully, PGA and Kernwood Country Club for hosting this event for another year. Berberian Jr. tears it up at SPS #3 Rich Berberian Jr., PGA (Vesper CC) shot a six-under par score of 64 to take the championship spot at George Wright Golf Club for Stroke Play Series #3 on Tuesday, July 11th. He finished ahead of the rest of the field by four strokes. With a later tee time, Berberian dodged some of the early rainstorms that plagued most of the field. He began his front nine with a birdie on the first hole and another on the sixth. His play would only improve as he headed to the back, and harder side, of the course. Berberian turned it on, making birdies on 12, 15, 16, and 18. He made no bogeys throughout the day, just pars and birdies. He finished at sixunder, 64 and in the top spot. Berberian Jr. attributes his great play to some prior knowledge of the course “Playing here last year really helped me out,” said Berberian. “There are some tee shots that could make the rest of the hole

pretty tough if you didn’t know which way to go with it.” However much he knew the course’s layout, Berberian’s play was top-notch. On the back, he made up for those mistakes by making birdies on the 11th, 14th, 15th and 17th holes. However, it wouldn’t be quite enough to surpass Berberian. Hillview Professional Takes Top Spot at SPS #2 Christopher Carter, PGA (Hillview GC) shot a one-under par 70 to take the top spot at Stroke Play Series #2 at Sterling National Country Club on Monday, June 26th. He was the only NEPGA Professional to finish under par in the event. Carter played in the final group of the day and had powerful competition in Shawn Warren, PGA (Falmouth CC) and John Fields, PGA (Belmont CC). Carter came out with strong play on the front, making birdies on the second and fourth holes. He’d make only one bogey on the par three seventh, to turn at one under. After the turn, he made a birdie on the 12th, but followed it up with two bogeys, one on the 13th and 16th. On the closing hole, Carter sunk a clutch putt to make birdie and move back to one-under. John Hickson, PGA (Sebasco Harbor GR) had a strong, consistent day on the course as well. Hickson began with a quick birdie on the 500-yd par five. He followed up with a bogey on two, and rebounded with another birdie on three. After another bogey on four he was back at even par. After that stretch, he made 14 straight pars. His consistent play was good enough to finish T2 with Section heavy hitters Jeff Seavey, PGA (Samoset Resort) and Kirk Hanefeld, PGA (Salem CC). One of the unique challenges that Sterling CC brought were its very narrow fairways and blind tee shots. For much of the rounds, guys who found their tee shots and approaches in the trees had a lot of trouble getting back to the fairway. This kept scores from being very low, and kept most professionals over par. Thank you to Sterling National CC and PGA Head Professional Chris Hulme, PGA for hosting this great event! Smestad, PGA; Mahan Beat Wind to take Home Pro +1 Championship
Brett Smestad, PGA and Mike Mahan carded a six-under par score of 65 (gross) to take home the Pro + 1 Am Championship at the Carnegie Abbey Club in Portsmouth, RI on Monday, June 19th. The duo finished first in both the gross and net divisions. Smestad and Mahan exemplified the format of Monday’s play. One best ball of two events often depends on deft in teamwork, and where one player had a mistake, the other was there to pick him up. They began on the sixth hole, where Smestad struggled and made bogey. Mahan was able to stay solid and pick him up with a par. They continued like this throughout their round, and were able to finish the day with a gross score of six-under par 65. It also worked out that they would card the same score in the net division, tied for second with Tom Rooney, PGA and Brian Copeland (LeBaron Hills).

NEPGA Pro-Officer Enjoys Spectacular Day on Martha’s Vineyard The New England PGA was island hopping the week of June 12-16, making a stop on Nantucket for the Boys & Girls Club Pro-Am on Monday, and later returning to the island that is closer to the mainland but just as beautiful as its neighbor across Nantucket Sound. On Thursday, June 15th the NEPGA Pro-Officer visited Vineyard Golf Club, the exclusive private club located on the eastern side of the island. The island, known as a vacation getaway for many, including multiple US Presidents, hosted 70 players from clubs around New England for a spectacular day of golf and camaraderie. The experience at the recently Gil Hanse redesigned golf course is as good as any in the area. Players drive down an unassuming road after entering the property through an unmarked entrance, and pull up to a magnificent Vineyard style clubhouse with birch and hickory wood lining the entire interior. Upon arrival inside the clubhouse, all guests shoes are taken for a thorough clean – a nice service in of itself, but a necessity for the care of the course. Vineyard Golf Club does not use pesticides on the property making it one of the most natural golf course environments in the world, and the removal of pesticides and various elements that could harm the grass is paramount to keeping the property in pristine, organic condition. The Vineyard Golf Club staff, from host Eri Seguin and his Assistant Professionals, to chef Anthony Rubeni and Superintendent Kevin Banks were all present to greet players and rolled out the red carpet for our PGA Professionals and their influential club leaders that made the trip. Each player was given their own locker, and treated like a member for the day with access to practice areas and the full clubhouse. Vineyard Golf Club is a walking facility, and each player had a trained caddie for the round to
again provide a unique golfing experience and give a guided tour of the newly-designed layout which had changed significantly since the last time the NEPGA had visited in 2012.

There were 42 teams in the 1 Best Ball of 2, Gross & Net contest. The course held up against the field, as 2-under par 70 took home the low gross honors with three teams finishing as Co-Champions. The 2017 Pro-Senior Invitational will be contested at historic Agawam Hunt Club, in Rumford, RI. This event is sure to be a treat for NEPGA Professionals and three of their club members, each of whom must be at least 50 years old on the date of the event. The Professionals may be any age. Professionals may bring a family member (who meets the age requirement) as one of their Amateurs, even if they are not a member of the Professional’s facility. The tournament’s format will be one best ball of the four, with gross and net divisions. Participants may choose their own tee times during registration for this event.

The NEPGA is excited to return to the Haven Golf Club for this year’s iteration of the Pro-Pro Stroke Play Championship. The event’s format will be 36 holes of four ball stroke play, with lunch served in between rounds. First round tee times will run between 7:30 and 9:30 off holes #1 and #10, with second round being played 5 ½ hours after the first round time, from the opposite tee. This event is open to Class A NEPGA members only. Please note that this is a limited field event, with the first 52 registered teams comprising the field, so be sure to sign up before it’s too late! The 2017 NEPGA Senior Championship, presented by MercedesBenz USA,, will be held at Okemo Valley Golf Club in Ludlow, VT, and will be a qualifier for the PGA of America’s Senior PGA Professional Championship. The deadline to register for the qualifier has passed. You may still sign up for the Section’s Senior Championship by logging into BlueGolf. The 2017 Stroke Play Series marches on as we visit The Cape Club of Sharon, formerly Spring Valley Country Club in Sharon, MA. A championship golf course renowned for its sport as well as its beauty, The Cape Club of Sharon’s natural setting and expertly designed greens prove a great challenge. It was the site of the 2016 NEPGA Assistant Championship and will be an excellent test. The NEPGA would like to express appreciation to PGA Head Professional Mike Powers for hosting, and to tournament partners Ahead, Cutter & Buck, Yamaha, Avidia Bank, 1st/10th Tee Energy Bars, Bushnell Golf, and the PGA Tour.
Interstate 99 a huge success as team raises over $11,000 for NEPGA Foundation. The New England PGA’s Interstate 99 Golf Marathon was a huge success. The team raised more than $9,000 and saw many smiles throughout a very long day.

Dave McAdams, Ryan Kesten, PGA, Mike Higgins, Chris Clayton and Tommy Austin played in what turned out to be 108 holes for the day. They began at the Quechee Club in Quechee, VT at 5am. After playing 36 holes in just under two hours, the team loaded back into the van and headed to the next course. They then traveled to play 18 holes at Montcalm GC in NH, The Ledges GC in ME, Renaissance in MA, and Kirkbrae CC in RI.
All in all, the core team played 108 holes. The original plan may have been to play just 99, but while at Quechee, the group made the executive decision for an extra nine holes, given their pace was so quick, and the chance of running into traffic later on was threatening.
The New England PGA Foundation, established in 2016, has a mission to impact lives through the game of golf. Many of the NEPGA’s 1100 men and women PGA Professionals are impacting charitable causes every day, whether it is raising money for charity, organizing charitable outings at their courses, volunteering their time to teach the game and many other ways. The charitable arm of the NEPGA aims to grow the impact their PGA Professionals are making on a daily basis by raising funds and enhancing programs throughout New England.
At most locations the group featured a guest player. In VT and NH, Honorary President Larry Kelley, PGA joined the group. In NH, PGA Professional Corey Mansfield, PGA was also on hand to play a fast-paced 18 holes with the group. In ME, NEPGA President Rob Jarvis was with the team, and in RI, Mike Bradshaw, PGA played. At Quechee in VT, Renaissance in Mass., and The Ledges in ME, PGA Professionals were on hand to help the group move through their respective courses and offer advice. T.J. The team was very strong throughout most of the day, but the early morning and muscular soreness proved to be a challenge for almost all members of the team by the end of the day. In all, the team traveled 262 miles, played 648 holes, and spent almost 10 total hours on a golf course. The Interstate 99 Golf Marathon is the first fundraiser the New England PGA has run to benefit the New England PGA Foundation. It was a great success, and between individual team members fundraising, the team as a whole surpassed their fundraising goal of $10,000 and raised over $11,000 for the New England PGA Foundation. “The New England PGA Foundation’s first fundraiser, the Interstate 99, was a huge success,” said Executive Director Michael

Nearly halfway through the New England Series season, 2017 has yielded some record numbers. With 309 members, the highest number to date, the New England Series is on its way to yet another successful season. We have seen routinely full fields at many of the events, and are on pace to best our record number of rounds by season’s end. The success of the New England Series certainly is credited in large part to the generous PGA Professionals who offer up their facility for the day. They provide a member-like experience for all New England Series members who participate in these events. I attended North Kingstown High School, RI and the Golf Academy of America, Orlando FL. Who inspired or mentored you? I have had the pleasure to be mentored and educated by all my former Head Golf Professionals. John Rainone, Drew Chapman, Dave Marcotte, Jim Corrigan, Mark Heartfield and Joe Connerton have all played a significant roll in my life and my professional development as a well rounded Head Golf Professional.
At what age did you begin to play golf? I begin playing the game of golf at the age of 11. Who taught you the game? I began playing golf at the North Kingstown Municipal Golf Course, RI and was taught by Mark O'Brien, John Rainone
When did you decide to become a PGA Professional and why? I was fortunate to know at the age of 16 that the game of golf and being a PGA Professional was something I wanted to make a part of my life. The opportunity to be outdoors, enjoying time with members that are just as passionate about the game as me and making a positive impact on my staff and students every day continues to motivate me professionally.
Of all the courses that you have played, which one is your favorite? I have had the opportunity to play many great facilities in my life but the experience I had at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, NY is the best to date. Tell us about your family. I'm blessed to have my beautiful wife Stephanie, 16 month old daughter Catherine and our toy poodle Fenway. Since moving to Vermont last year we are enjoying all the sports and local activities that the state has to offer year round. What other interests do you have besides the game of golf? Biking, snowboarding, hiking and leadership/motivational reading. What would you like to leave as your legacy to the game? I would like to leave my professionalism and caring attitude to the game of golf. I idea that I can positively impact someone's life, be a mentor and represent the club in a positive light both inside and outside of the work place would truly be a great way to be remembered.

This year has been an exciting year on the PGA Tour with Dustin Johnson winning three early events and is on top of the FedEx Cup Leaderboard, with the first major for Sergio Garcia at The Masters in a sudden death playoff with Justin Rose, and with the emergence of new stars winning their first events. Johnson, along with the other top 100 points leaders in the FedEx Cup Race after the first FedEx Cup Playoff, will be competing at the TPC Boston in Norton to move on to the next Playoff Event. With the newly named Dell Technologies Championship just about three months away on Thursday, August 31st, we are in need of Ambassadors for both the morning and afternoon waves. There is also available the chance to walk both waves if you are interested. The morning wave is from 7:00 am to 9:00 am. The afternoon wave is from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm. Who inspired or mentored you? Colin Gillies at Penobscot Valley CC. I started working for Colin before high school, he allowed me to play way more golf than he should have, and that's when I became hooked. Curt Hudek at ASU was great to me as the Director of the PGM program. And working for Brendan Walsh at TCC after college was an incredible opportunity. Brendan affects your life for the better in ways you don't even realize at the time.
Tell us about your family. My wife Erin is the Volleyball Coach at Bowdoin College. My parents, Rob and Mary, still live in Orono, ME. My older brother Houston and his wife Heather, live in Ellsworth, ME, and my older sister Kate lives is Boston.
When did you decide to become a PGA Professional and why? Junior year of high school. Golf had become more enjoyable than hockey and baseball, and I learned about the PGM program. I knew it would be a great way to help people achieve their awesomeness.
What would you like to leave as your legacy to the game? Making the game more FUN. This great game could be even better if everyone relaxed a bit and tried to have more fun. If we created more environments and opportunities where people can be themselves and have a blast playing some version of actual golf, this game would be thriving. And to help everyone I encounter to be the best version of themselves.

There should not be any reason for members and apprentices not to be aware that their annual dues had a June 30, 2017 due date. The weekly PGA News newsletter has contained reminders and well as email reminders and selected printed invoice reminders being sent numerous times since the invoices were made available as of May 1, 2017. The next step has been completed with the suspension for non-payment of dues and assessment of the $25 late. According to the PGA Constitution and Bylaws, when the late fee was changed to $25; it can no longer be waived. The dues + the late fee are payable by the end of July 2017 to avoid individuals being dropped for non-payment of dues.
Please note: that if you are suspended, you will not be
able to play in any Section or Chapter events until your dues have been paid. Although payment by check is acceptable, paying by credit/debit card via PGA.org is the preferred method. You may also call the PGA of America’s Membership Department to pay with your credit/debit card. Their toll free number is 800.474.2776.
From Mauro Pari: It was Sunday morning and as I arrived at CCNB (the Country Club of New Bedford) I noticed ambulances on the golf course, the Member Tournament had started. Larry Demers, our Club Pro, was quick to respond with life saving tools the club had on sight. It is my opinion and I quote from a doctor, “Larry's rapid response massaged his heart while medical personnel where on their way to CCNB”. Larry Demers acted far above... and actually saved this DR life! This tremendous act of gallantry is not seen everyday! My prayers are with the DR ...Mr Demers, Thank You! and God Bless you!

Woods Hole GC’s PGA Head Pro Glenn Kelly played 101 holes in mid-June at Juniper Hills GC and raised thousands of dollars on behalf of the GOLF FIGHTS CANCER charity. He reported that he “...made just one birdie...”, but this writer knows better. He had to have made at least two! Over 40 golfers participated in this years’ marathon – raising a total of $150,000 in all.
Nearly since the inception of TGC onto the Cape Cod golf scene, this club (now renamed TGC at Sacconnesset) has held one of the most successful fundraisers for our military in the region. The TGC Fund for the Troops was recently held featuring even more creative ways to make a contribution to the community – as so many of our golf facilities do each and every year. Spearheaded by TGC PGA Head Pro Doug Errhalt and his wife Gwen (who is also Membership Director at the club), this tournament has become very special indeed.

Three teams fired 68 in the 4ball stroke play competition tying for 1st – Steindel & LaDow, Rick Durocher (Cyprian Keyes) & Andrew Wester (Winchester) and the twosome of Dana Smith (Presidents) & Dave Dionne (Beverly GC).
The best night of the year is the major fundraiser for the Cape & Islands United Way annual campaign. This year it was held in early June and featured the Cape Cod Chapter as a major sponsor – our Chapter donated $1,000 to the fund on behalf of the 160+ proud members of the Cape PGA Chapter, using a portion of our ‘spend down’ funds.

Foxborough GC survives rain for a great day The third event of the NEPGA Massachusetts Chapter season, the MA Chapter Pro+3Am was a great event as the heavy rains and cold temperatures of the previous days faded away into warm sunshine along with the great play. The Brockton CC team of PGA Professional Rob Bradley, PGA, Greg Montesano, Joe Macrina, and Ed O'Keefe posted an exceptional round of 11-under par 133. Foxborough CC’s demanding design provided players with a great challenge, yet a fun time. Rob Bradley, PGA of Brockton CC set his team’s pace by carding a two under par 70 his own ball, while his partners contributed two natural birdies of their own. The Individual Professional competition featured some fine play as well. Rob Bradley’s two under par 70 was the low score for the Professionals giving him a victory by four over Craig Coombes, PGA (Hopedale CC), Rich Hasenfus, PGA (Needham GC) and Scott Hickey, PGA (Cyprian Keyes GC). Bradley was scoring all day as he carded six birdies which were only offset by three bogeys and a double bogey. Submitted by New Hampshire Chapter President Tim Loch, PGA The New Hampshire Chapter of the NEPGA has gotten off to a rough start weather wise as three events have been postponed to date including pro ams at Concord, Intervale and Keene, with only Intervale having been rescheduled. The Chapter tried to play through storms recently at Keene but had to succumb to mother nature after two rain delays followed by a hellacious thunder and lightning storm that left the golf course unplayable. However, the good news is that the Chapter is averaging 30 teams per the events that have been played. As of June 12th, Dan Wilkins of Laconia CC leads in the NHC Player of the Year Standings with 58.33 points. He is closely followed by Matthew Bradbury of Crotched Mountain with 51.33 points. Rounding out the top five are Todd Rollins, Laconia (41.38); Marc Spencer, Windham (40) and Cory Mansfield, Montcalm (38.38). Next up is the Pro-Pro Championship at Montcalm on July 17.

It is nice when your golf game can travel and Brent Amaral, PGA has been able to do just that. On a day in early June that felt more like a late day in October, Brent led Team Acoaxet to an impressive 8-under victory at the Metacomet Pro-3 Am. Just recently, Brent was at it yet again on the Vineyard. Ferrying Team Acoaxet to grab some island spotlight at the Pro-Officer hosted at Vineyard Golf Club, Team Acoaxet had a T-1st and a couple T-4th place finishes. Congrats on your good golf and hope you keep it going as the NEPGA and RI Chapter season marches on with hot weather and even fiercer competition. Congrats to Brian Owens, PGA for tak-
ing the Individual Professional at the Acoaxet Pro-Pro by firing a solid 68 that acquired 38 stableford points for the tournament. I am excited to say that our members are reporting that despite the rainy weather, the numbers are up across the board. Our playing events have all been successful as well as run second to none. There is a big thanks to Dave Christy for running a great show. We have some exciting news for one of our VTPGA members as well as our District Director, Dave Soucy. Dave was appointed by Governor Phil Scott to fill a vacant State Senate seat. Dave has worked hard and is very deserving. Congrats Dave!!!
On Tuesday, May 30th, the VT Chapter Pro Am was held at Country Club of Vermont with Dave Bennett, PGA, Dan Ruane, PGA, and Mike Slayton as our hosts. Our sponsor was Paul Jones with Club Car. Using the modified stableford format, gross winners were led by Rodney Bicknell, PGA, Neshobe GC and his team with 51 points. Net team winners were led by Sean Toof, PGA, and his Vermont National CC team with 64 points. Our winning Professional score was 43 points by David Bennett PGA, CC of Vermont with 43 points. Next was Rodney Bicknell, PGA with 39 points.
Now that school is out, our great junior events will begin and we are expecting great turnouts.
On June 5th, our Pro Am at Manchester CC was rained out. The rescheduled date is Monday, July 31st.

On June 12th, we conducted our Pro Am at Burlington CC. Our hosts included John Paul, PGA, Matt Havers, PGA, Chris Daly, PGA, and Bob Prange, PGA.

Our format for this event was 2bb of 4, gross and net combined. Williston GC Professional Todd Trono, PGA, took the team honors with a score of 133 followed by John Goodchild, PGA and his CC of Barre team with 134. David Bennett, PGA, CC of Vermont was low professional with 67 followed by Kevin Bennison, PGA, Manchester CC with 73. The Vermont Chapter was idle the week of June 19th to allow our members to play in the Vermont Open at Lake Morey CC.

Submitted by Joan Stuart The Seniors will be visiting the scenic and challenging Okemo Valley Golf Club in Ludlow, VT on July 31st and August 1st to play in the 2017 NEPGA Senior Championship which is also the Senior Qualifier for the Senior Professional National Championship for seniors interested in trying to qualify for the Senior Professional National Championship. The deadline has passed for seniors to register for the qualifier, but registration is still open for the Section’s Senior Championships. Seniors who only want to play in the NEPGA Senior Championship will need to register through Blue Golf by clicking here. The entry fee is $160 and the deadline is July 24th. On June 20th George Wright GC hosted the Seniors’ Association in a Pro 3 Am. Dan Gillis, PGA from Nabnasset Lake CC won the Individual Pro Gross contest shooting a 72. The Individual Pro Net contest was won by Scott Allen, PGA Host Professional from George Wright GC with a 71. The team from Nabnasset Lake CC (Gillis along with amateurs D. Ahern, K. McLaughlin, and K. Milton) won the Team Gross with a 67. The Team Net was won by the team from George Wright GC (Allen along with amateurs P. Maguire, E. Maguire, and J. Walsh) with a 59. Thank you to Host Professional Scott Allen, PGA and his staff for a memorable day at historic George Wright GC!
