Things Happening In our Area.

It depends on what you’re looking for when you say “things happening in our area” so I’ll go through some things for all age groups. For Primary school kids there is a drama workshop going on in the Riverbank theatre from the 2nd to the 6th of April from 10am. It costs 60 euro and places are going quick. For the older audience Leonard Cohen will be playing in the Royal Hospital Kilmainham on the 11th and 12th of September, but that’s not for a long time yet.

Also not forgetting our age group. JLS will be playing in the O2 Dublin on the 9th of March and You Me @ 6 will be playing the day before that. In Croke Park for other people who may be interested the Allianz League Semi-final is on the 15th of April. Lastly to finish up here’s another sporting event that is being held soon is Leinster vs. Cardiff Blues in the Aviva stadium on the 7th of April.

It is a network of networks that consists of millions of private, public, academic, business, and government networks, of local to global scope, that are linked by a broad array of electronic, wireless and optical networking technologies. The Adventures of

Sherlock Holmes My fascination with Sherlock Holmes began one fateful evening last summer. I was watching TV, flicking idly between stations when something caught my eye; the first ever BBC production of Sherlock. Although I had heard of them, I had never read the famous detective books by Arthur Conan Doyle. Maybe it was time to give his legendary work a chance. I remember the feeling after watching that first episode of Sherlock, A Study in Pink. I was enthralled. My head was buzzing and my heart was racing. I had discovered something new and exciting. It was not until October, that I bought the book The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. Everything about it promised more of the baffling mysteries, intrigue, and heart stopping crimes that had appealed to me in the television series. The book did not disappoint and I savoured every story. My favourites were A Scandal in Bohemia and The Adventures of the Speckled Band. Sherlock Holmes is a detective, a cold, arrogant but mesmerising genius. His extremely accurate theories and remarkable observations make him the best in the business. Once you enter the world of Holmes and his able assistant John Watson you will go on an incredible adventure full of murder and mystery. So join me and the new generation of Sherlock Holmes fans and read the books today!

The senior Irish womans team is ranked 14th in the world. The team: Emma GRAY (GK), Pamela SMITHWICK (GK), Michelle HARVEY, Miriam CROWLEY , Cliodhna SARGENT, Emma SMYTH, Emma CLARKE, Nicola EVANS, Alexandra SPEERS (C), Shirley MCCAY , Lisa JACOB , Sinead MCCARTHY, Aine CONNERY, Nicola SYMMONS, Audrey O FLYNN, Chloe WATKINS, Elizabeth COLVIN, Nicola DALY.

Of six survivors from Canada four years ago, Alex Speers and her Irish panel, sponsored by Electric Ireland, are taking nothing for granted. Irelands last Olympic qualifying campaign blew up in smoke at the hands of lower ranked Italy, something scarcely envisaged in the build-up. Training, matches, everything. We have got something from all of it. The to put it together. If we do, we will get the result. There journey in hope of olympic qualification:

Ireland 5-1 France In the second match of the day, France gave Ireland a good fright in their bid for an Olympic ticket when Gwenaelle Dutel slipped one past the Irish defence for an early lead. Unimpressed, the Girls in Green didn't let the minor setback faze them and turned out a steady performance over the remaining 57 minutes to record a clear win with 5 goals from 5 different players

Ireland 3-0 Russia Following on from their 5-1 win yesterday v France Ireland recorded their second victory with a comprehensive 3-0 win against Russia

Ireland 5-0 Mexico Irish Womens Team made it three wins from three as they defeated Mexico by 5-0 Ireland had a tougher time than expected earning its third win at the Athlon Car Lease FIH Road to London Tournament against #30 Mexico, but in the end kept its undefeated record in place with a 5-0 victory.

Ireland 3-2 Spain Ireland secured its spot in Sunday’s final with a 3-2 win against Spain. The win also secured Belgium’s place in the final game as both Ireland and Belgium are unbeaten with 12 points.

Ireland 1-1 Belgium 14

Jill Boon gave Belgium the early advantage when she easily converted a penalty stroke nine minutes into the game. But Ireland events things up with 12 minutes left in the half when Chloe Watkins tapped in the equalizer.

Final-Ireland 1-4 Belgium th

Belgium became the 11 women’s team to qualify for the 2012 London Olympics. In front of a capacity crowd, Sofie Gierts had the game of her life and it came at just the right time as her three goals paced Belgium to the win and sent her team to London. Ireland had its chances in the game and competed well, but they never really threatened the Belgians, who were simply playing on a different level.

Hard luck to the girls they did us proud and we wish them good luck in the futureJ!!!

Ireland FIH Road to London tournament as the result of the injury. Day 4 came and Ireland bet Chile 3-0 goals were from Timmy Cockram and Michael Watt (2). This meant Ireland would be playing Malaysia who they’d need to win or draw against for a place in the final v Korea. Ireland drew against Malaysia and were in the final with Korea but unfortunetly Ireland lost at the last 2 seconds of the game when a free received a touch by Nam Young Lee and made it 3-2 and won the Olympic place. Ireland played there best and we’re all very proud of them!

The Festival

Review:

This years Cheltnam Festival wasn’t as good as previous years for the Irish with many Irish trainers not bringing as many horses as usual. However the week did start well with the Jonjo O’Neill trained “Synchronized” scoring for the Irish with A.P. Mc Coy on board. Our strike rate this year was sub-par though with only five Irish trained winners compared with last year’s thirteen WINNERS Synchronized Rock On Ruby Finian’s Rainbow Simonsig Champagne Fever Even though our horses weren’t up to scratch the same could not be said for our jockeys with Ruby Walsh and A.P. Mc Coy occupying first and second respectively on the jockey’s leaderboard and Paul Carberry also inside the top ten we weren’t doing so badly By Andrew Collins

Cars Better, Strong and Faster, but No Longer Beautiful First of all, it's pronounced "Can." Not Cans. Or Kahn. Or Kahns. If you're a jet-setter or an heiress or a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon with a lust for Tae Kwon Do, you probably already knew that. Cannes is a see-and-be-seen destination on the French Riviera for the "My Yacht Is Bigger Than Yours" Club. It's where the world's wealthy go to dine, drink wine, shop and tan. Oh, and watch movies. Cannes has hosted the Festival de Cannes, the world's premiere film festival, every May since 1946. Cannes is the perfect place for this 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL550. It fits the city like a fur-lined Versace glove. But we're not in Cannes. We're not even in France. We're racing though southern Spain on our way to Marbella, a historic and breathtakingly beautiful resort town on the Mediterranean. The SL's retractable hardtop is stowed and the twin-turbo 4.7-liter V8 is seriously getting the job done. It's here, blasting through the foothills of the Sierra Blanca under the warm sun of Andalusia, where the all-new SL550 is really showing us its chops. These roads are right out of Ronin: narrow, twisting and lined with strips of guardrail and slow -moving Fiat Puntos. There are fast sections and enough downhill, off-camber hairpins to test every aspect of this two-seater's dynamics. After 125 miles, it's clear Mercedes-Benz has not screwed up the SL. In fact, it has made the SL better.

Of course we expect even more from the forthcoming SL63 AMG, but for now the Mercedes-Benz SL550 will impress when it hits dealers in early May. It rings in at €105,550 plus destination for a cool €106,375.

Ty mini company success By Maeve Fennin 1V

Best friends Ciara Maher and Sorcha Lavelle Walsh created the Advice Booklet Company( ABC). Their first booklet is called “a school survival Guideâ€?. The booklet is mainly for first years and explains the differences between primary and secondary and how to adjust to these changes, like for example how to manage your locker and other helpful practical hints. There is also a section at the back for parents of first years which gives advice on what to buy e.g. type of school bags, locker folders etc. Their second booklet is for helping junior certificate students with their exams. Ciara and Sorcha were able to draw on their own experiences from being first years and completing their junior cert last year. In the recent Kildare Enterprise mini company finals held in Kilashee house hotel the Advice Booklet Company had great success winning overall winner for Kildare. They will now go forward to represent Kildare in the Ireland mini company event. I wish them every success at the all Ireland final. If you would like to buy a booklet for â‚Ź3.95 you can email them at advicebookletcompany@gmail.com. Advice Booklet Company: made by students for students. 21
