MUAMBA: I THANK GOD FOR MY FOOTY CAREEER CHURCHES CAN HELP... Patrick Regan
‘Church answer to gang issues’ A GANG expert believes the Church is the answer to the nation’s growing youth nuisance problems. Patrick Regan, who runs youth charity XLP, reckons children under the age of ten are now being groomed to join gangs that partake in violence and crime. He says top gang leaders in London are earning more than £100,000 per year through illegal drug activities. But Patrick, whose organisation holds events to deter young people from the gang culture, believes the Christian message is the answer. He said: “I’ve often said to politicians that I think the Church is one of the best placed organisations to deal with this issue. We’re in every area across the country and we’re not just there for a few years as some organisations are. “We don’t only have a four to five year term as politicians do – we’re there for the long haul, living and working in these communities – we should be one of the best placed. “Lots of gang leaders have a real conversion experience when they discover they are made in the image of God, and that they’re loved and cared for. “It really brings a transformation experience when they encounter the hope that the gospel message brings.”
