A 24-year-old woman sent a text message of hope hours before she died of a rare lung condition. Lucy Clarke, who died from pulmonary hypertension, was bebe ing rushed into intensive care when she sent the message to her close friend Shirley Goodburn. The inspirational text sent by Lucy, from Swanley in Kent, told her friend that she was reassured and was not worried about dying. It read: “It’s so tough at the moment. I am not sleeping much and getting very breathless. It’s difficult trying to be strong all the time. “I had a rough ride this morning and got quite frightened. I then went to ‘my place’ with Jesus and he was standing there with the kindest eyes. He didn’t say anything, he just looked intently at me. “And I was washed over with reassurance and love. Instead he was left in a pool of blood yards from his home in Southwark, South London, after being repeatedly stabbed in the heart. David – a model pupil at Walworth Academy – became the 19th tragic young victim of Britain’s knife and gun crime epidemic this year. He became the second youngest victim of rising knife crime when his hospital life support machine was switched off last month. His parents and brothers Peter, 18, and James, 13, were at his bedside. Mum Grace said: “David gave his life to Jesus Christ when he was 10 years old.” A 16-year-old has appeared before Camberwell youth court charged with David’s murder.
