We are delighted to be one of three cinemas in the country privileged to screen this Special Preview – a thrilling drama set in the world of nuclear power and politics. Based on a shocking true story, ‘La Syndicaliste’ is a nail-biting cat-and-mouse thriller set in a world of whistleblowing, corporate skulduggery and relentless misogyny. ‘La Syndicaliste’ is the true story of Maureen Kearney (Isabelle Huppert) – head trade union representative of a French multinational nuclear powerhouse turned whistleblower by denouncing top-secret deals that shook the sector. Kearney’s life is suddenly turned upside down when she is violently assaulted in her own house, which leads to an investigation that shifts her position from victim to suspect. From acclaimed writer/director Jean-Paul Salomé and based on the book by Caroline Michel-Aguirre.

Beau Is Afraid

A paranoid man embarks on an epic odyssey to get home to his mother in this bold and ingenious new film from writer/director Ari Aster (‘Midsommer’).

Growing up in a small town with his mother and younger sister, Beau (Joaquin Phoenix) is haunted by a traumatic event from his past. His anxiety worsens when his mother starts dating a new man, and Beau becomes convinced that this man is dangerous. As Beau’s fears spiral out of control, he must confront his past and find a way to overcome his anxiety in order to protect his family. The film transforms out of the mundanity of reality and into a fantastical world of surrealism, all the while exploring the power of human connection.

INTERNATIONAL PANORAMA: FRANCE FULL TIME À PLEIN TEMPS

A breathlessly tense portrait of modern labour, this French drama stars Laure Calamy as a single mother who hits her breaking point during a nationwide strike.

Single mother Julie (César award-winning actress Laure Calamy) works a gruelling job as a head chambermaid in a five-star Parisian hotel. Julie’s daily balance of commuting from her remote suburb into Paris, tenuous childcare and search for a new job to get her out of debt, becomes unmanageable during a paralyzing transport strike in Paris. Laure Calamy gives a one-woman show performance as she is front and centre for nearly every frame of the film. This relentless, heart-in-your-throat, ticking-clock thriller about precarious single-motherhood could not be more timely or more intimate. As real, and as recognizably stressful, as the genre gets. BOOKING REF

When ‘Fleabag’ was first released in 2019 it was a smash hit and rapidly became the highest grossing UK Event Cinema title of all time. It recently won ‘Event Cinema Release of the Decade’, so we are delighted to give audiences across the country another chance to watch Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s iconic one-woman show. Written and performed by Phoebe Waller-Bridge and directed by Vicky Jones, ‘Fleabag’ is a rip-roaring look at some sort of woman living her sort of life. Fleabag may seem oversexed, emotionally unfiltered and self-obsessed, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. With family and friendships under strain and a guinea pig café struggling to keep afloat, Fleabag suddenly finds herself with nothing to lose. Playing to sold-out audiences in New York and London, don’t miss your chance to see this “legitimately hilarious show” (New Yorker).
