ill Rondeau and Zack Allen hit it off right away when a mutual friend introduced them in 2015. Even so, Jill thought of Zack as friend material, and it took him a few tries to persuade her to go on a date. Two months later (after “a lot of self-control,” Zack says), he confessed his love for her. Happily, Jill returned the sentiment. Their wedding at Trinity Church in Newport continued an Allen family tradition. “Zack is the third generation of his family to get married there,” Jill says. “It’s an incredibly beautiful and historical church. We always loved the idea of being married there.” A highlight was sitting in a pew once occupied by George Washington.

Best-Laid Plans

Zack planned a romantic proposal at sunset on a beach in one of the couple’s favorite vacation places, Key West, Florida. His excitement (or maybe his nerves) got the better of him, however, and he found himself proposing earlier in the day as they floated in their hotel s swimming pool ( n case you’re wondering, Zack did not kneel in the pool to ask for Jill’s hand.) COVID-19 derailed their original plan to marry in August 2020, but they both believe it worked out for the best. Their wedding day weather was a balmy low 70s with lots of sunshine and light breezes, perfect for the bridal party’s private ferry ride to Rose Island for photos.

What better color scheme for a wedding reception at Regatta Place than navy and white accented with a pale pink evoking a just-before-sunrise sky? Jill’s gown, designed and sewn by one of her best friends, was an A-line confection of taffeta and tulle adorned with vintage faux-pearl buttons (and a bonus every woman loves: pockets). “I felt like the most beautiful woman in the world,” Jill says. Her bridesmaids wore dusty-blush gowns, while the men in the wedding party sported pink whale-print bowties with their navy-blue suits. The couple skipped a wedding cake in favor of a tiered arrangement of mini doughnuts in an array of fla ors uests were also treated to ood golden vanilla ice cream with Skippy peanut butter — a snack Zack and his late father often enjoyed together.

Where Are They Now?
