Search for Service! Written by: Division 19 North Service Expo Coord. Baylee Battle

Finding events can be difficult, but it doesn’t have to be! You don’t have to make events or find events on your own. There are many resources, including fellow members or officers that can help you in finding or coordinating service events. First, you can use other members. You can always hit up Baylee Battle, the division service expo coordinator, if you need help finding events. You can also refer to other clubs in the division for advice or ideas on events. When it comes to actual resources, there are websites you can use to help find events near you. A really great website to visit is volunteermatch.org . This website organizes events by location and type of event, based off of your preferences. Another great way to find events is to check with your school for any events they may be having, and see if they need help with any of them. Finally, another option is to check in with your local community center and see what upcoming events they have. Check with the director of the community center and see if they need help with their events. There are many ways to find events, and these are just a few, but you can always look in other places for events! Feel free to hit up Baylee Battle on facebook for help finding events, if you need any help!

Dues! Written by: Division 19 North Executive Assistant Celia Yu What is Club Rush? What time is it? Dues time! It's the time of the year to pay your dues! What are dues? Dues are annual payments to Key Club International to ensure that you continue to be a dues paid member. No events or service hours are counted until you have paid your dues! Payment is $11.50, but your school club may charge extra for donations. $7.00 goes to Key Club International, and $4.50 goes to our CNH District. The early bird deadline for dues is November 1st! The last day to pay your dues so they aren't late is December 1st. Put these dates on your calendar! Pay your dues to whichever board members are in charge, and they will ensure you are a dues paid member! Remember, this is very important because a member who has not paid dues would not be able to go to great events including DCON and Fall Rally! Get your dues in as soon as possible so you don't have to rush at the last minute! Many of you may not see the point of paying dues, but it is not only beneficial to Key Club International and the CNH District! All the money goes back to you, the members. An outline of what dues money includes is below:

Brrrrr it’s cold in here! With the festive holidays around the corner, CAMS Key Club has been ready to serve! We had four service projects this month including Color Run Night, Be the Match Walk/Run, Operation Christmas Child, and Beacon House: Feeding the Homeless. Color Run Night has been our most successful event of the term with over 65 members in attendance and almost a total of 400 service hours in that one event. We also had about 14 members attend our popular annual event: Operation Christmas Child. Here, Key Clubbers checked and packaged presents to be sent to those less fortunate in the Philippines. To wrap up this festive month, several members served food at the Beacon House on Thanksgiving Day, greeting and delivering smiles to everyone there. Other than service, we worked very hard when it came to preparing for Fall Rally South. We hosted a CAMS Spirit Day where we went over cheers and distributed Spirit Packs. On November 12, we managed to bring a total of 44 Key Clubbers. We are currently planning future fundraisers such as Frostbites, Pieology, and the sale of AMC Movie Tickets. As the year comes to a close, CAMS Key Club can’t wait to see what’s in store for the new year.

PIRATE PENGUINS

Our main emphasis of the month of November has been solely based on Fall Rally. We have hosted joint events with other clubs and planned multiple Fall Rally prep days where we practiced cheers and created signs and buttons. All this preparation worked out in the end when we won the Spirit Stick and donated around $250 for PTP!! Not only was this a special day because we won the Spirit Stick, but it was also a day where the members bonded with other members and divisions to whom they’ve never met before. It was a great experience overall! Our next goal for the future is to have Da Vinci finally attend DCON this term! In addition, congratulations to Angela Magat for being our MOTM for November! We can wait for what is to come in December.

This month El Segundo prepared for Fall Rally at the November DCM and later attended Fall Rally at Six Flags where we celebrated all the money our division and district has raised over the year for PTP. We later volunteered at the annual LA College and Career Convention where we helped register students, pass out shirts, and set up the different workshops. We also got to listen in to some of the workshops and learned more about college and career readiness. We continued our volunteering with Tree Musketeers and helped at their month Tender Love and Care for trees by mulching, picking up trash, and watering.

PIRATE PENGUINS

For the month of November, Gardena Key Club was in for a very busy yet agitating prep month in order for Fall Rally to be a memorable experience for those who were first-time attendees, old-timers, to the bittersweet seniors attending their last and final Fall Rally marking their path. In the end, all the hard work from our club Penguin Prep Day to Spirit Prep Day at DCM, we took

home the spirit stick for the first time in Division 19 North History! In order to prep for the W we took as a Division, Gardena Key Club had a “Penguin Prep Day,” / social where we had distributed spirit packs, division shirts, went over cheers, made flower headbands for spirit gear, and at the end we had our LTG along with his brother join us at our social hosted by our Vice President, Michael Valderama. With the most decimated and devoted 28 penguins we got to

bring along, I second that they enjoyed Fall Rally and I hope that this experience only makes their passion for this organization increase throughout the years and only keeping up with the legacy I have marked for the underclassmen to only ever represent. Gardena Key Club also had a fundraiser at Panda Express November 8th and had a huge turnout with many members coming along and supporting our wonderful club. Now with a total of 5 long but spirited events in preparation for the Holiday Season, we volunteered to prep for a ‘Secret Santa Shop’ in two different days members helped out our advisor of 186th Elementary School decorate around the school campus to tighty up the place to a Christmas season feeling. We then had our annual attendance at the Nakaoka Center to help out at the community-based event ‘Winter Wonderland,’ where most members helped out in the location where kids were enjoying the time in the snow and guided the kids to their safety and lead them in any help that was needed throughout the long, chilly night. With the company of Santa at 186th Elementary “Craft Night” members helped the kids who attended the school in any guidance in making Christmas crafts that were available throughout the auditorium just like this event the ‘Christmas Craft Fair’ was similar in the preparation for the long awaited Christmas season. Gardena Key Club has made such a drastic growth in club, from member retention to member attendance at man service events, I cannot wait to see what the club I serve accomplishes with the remainder of the term passing by so quickly, I only hope that the service doesn’t stop

and you can always catch Gardena Key Club waddling for service!

For this month of November we did not do as much as we would have liked. We mostly focused on Fall Rally, in which we

won the spirit stick! In the beginning of the month we had a spirit day DCM. After our weekly meetings some of us would stay and memorize our cheers with all of our abilities. Soon enough Fall Rally would already be here the following week. All of our members who went to Fall Rally had an amazing time and did not want it to end! To those of the members who could not attend Fall Rally, we had a different event for them, which was Trash for Teaching. Our members learned the importance of recycling and teaching the kids of the importance of it as well. The following week we had an Alleviate Skid Row event. In this event our members passed out clothes to the homeless. We then had a thanksgiving potluck & gave thanks! Our members had an amazing time enjoying each other's’ presences. After

our thanksgiving break we had our last event for the month, which was a Hawthorne Dinner in which our members helped serve at this wonderful event and even got to enjoy some of

the food!

HMSA Key Club began the month with The Happiest 5K on the Planet on November 6th. The fun-filled color run was a bright event where members helped from throwing UV-powders to distributing water bottles and finish line medals. The following day, HMSA received their club sweaters to show club spirit; extra donations were donated to the Pediatric Trauma Program. During club meetings, Pirate Penguin cookies were free with a mandatory donation of $2 towards PTP. We raised $60 from cookies. In thanks to all veterans, we showed our admiration through Hawthorne’s Veterans Day Celebration at Hawthorne Memorial Center where members helped with set-up, serve food and clean-up. On November 12, more than 45 members attended Fall Rally South; we are proud to cherish Division 19 North’s Fall Rally South, Session 3 Spirit Stick! Before the end of the month, and thanksgiving, HMSA hosted a canned food drive for those in need. We accumulated more than 700 cans. We look forward to future events and opportunities.

For the month of November, Lawndale Key Club took a small “break” after Fall Rally. Fall Rally was a huge success! Our division was able to win the spirit stick for the first time ever! Our members who attended Fall Rally enjoyed themselves and hope to attend once again next year. We had only one service event and one fundraiser for the month. We had a fundraiser on November 4th at our Senior Night Football game, where we sold ice cream with different toppings. We were able to raise $72 to add onto our donations to PTP. In total, we raised $376 for PTP this year! Our service event was on November 31st, for setting up and decorating the Hawthorne Teen Center, along with other members from Hawthorne, for their 8th Anniversary of the center. We have finished collecting donations for UNICEF as well! We will start to bring all of the donations that we have gathered to our Kiwanis Advisor’s house to begin counting the total amount that we have raised!

ANDREW YANG, one of our newest member in Key Club, has already shown so much potential. With attendance to Color Run, Be the Match Walk/Run, Operation Christmas Child, and Beacon House Feeding the Homeless, Andrew has dedicated all of his time to improving our community through our club. We are extremely proud and grateful to have him on our team this year. His positivity during meetings and events are always something we all look forward to. We know Andrew will continue thriving with everything he does and CAMS Key Club cannot wait to see what else he has in store for us this term! Congratulations to MATTHEW UJEMOV for being our November Member of the Month! Matt is such an enthusiastic member who is always looking for ways to serve. He constantly finds ways to help the club, and even helped make fifty pins for Fall Rally (which were extremely hard to make)! The club would not be the same without his bright smile, spirit, and willingness to go all out. He is very dedicated to the club and continues to grow in his love for Key Club. We are so proud of how much he has grown and can’t wait to see what he does in the future! 28 | NOVEMBER JANUARY 2016 || DIVISION 19N NEWSLETTER || PAGE 30 2016 DIVISION 19N NEWSLETTER

For the month of November, Gardena Key Club chose a very dedicated member who has waddled their way through service and has been a great help for everyone in the club. This pirate penguin known as JOHN LOPEZ, has shown how much Key Club means to him by always attending service events, DCMs, our weekly meetings, as well as the opportunity to attend Fall Rally South. John has shown great leadership skills, proper communication, and most especially, he carries a positive attitude at every key club event he attends. Being one of the few sophomores in the club, and how dedicated he is, John will grow as a key clubber and become a great support to the future of Gardena High School Key Club.

Today’s member of the month for November is LUKE FERNANDEZ. Luke was chosen to be member of the month due to his leadership skills within the club and always participating with every member. He is constantly open about helping his community and those around him. Luke is very friendly and outgoing, he has a charismatic personality that is inviting. He has been there from the start because of his dedication and love for the club. When he is unable to come to the meeting, he finds some way to ask others for events he has missed. || DIVISION DIVISION 19N 19N NEWSLETTER NEWSLETTER || NOVEMBER JANUARY 2016 | PAGE 29 17

For the Month of November, we are honored to recognize ROBERT HURTADO as our Member of the Month. Robert is friendly and never fails to make you smile and laugh. Robert constantly shows inclusiveness within our club and at events. He constantly tries his best to attend most of our events and his dedication cannot go unrecognized. From early morning events to events late at night, Robert is motivated to attend events without worrying about the time it starts. Robert is a fantastic artist and practiced his talent by drawing Pirate Penguins to give to other Key Clubbers at Fall Rally South! This month’s member of the month is DENIS MARTINEZ. This has been Denis’s second year in key club, and she's been enjoying the ride so far. She been talking about running for a board position next year and attending DCON to learn more about key club, which is really awesome! She signs up and attends every event that we put out, and she is happy to attend all of them. Her enthusiasm and excitement for key club is very bright! I'm proud to say she's a loyal key Clubber that loves key club! JANUARY 2016 || DIVISION 19N NEWSLETTER || PAGE 30 | NOVEMBER 2016 DIVISION 19N NEWSLETTER

For the month of November, we had picked ERICK LEON as our individual from the month in light of the fact that in spite of the fact that this is his second year in key club, despite everything he keeps on demonstrating consistent eagerness and commitment notwithstanding when it is as basic as setting off to the gatherings consistently or taking care of the group administrations. We are glad to state that Erick is our November individual from the month! His devotion and diligent work for our club emerges to us and to others and we would like to see her develop over the long haul. Ways to be more involved in Key Club: • Attend club meetings and monthly DCMs! • Participate in volunteering events, fundraisers, etc!

• Help out your board members! Ask if there’s anything that you can do! • Show dedication and spirit!

• Develop more relationships with people both in your club and the division!

• Have fun! Enjoy Key Club for what it is!
