02 | LETTER FROM THE LTG

WHAT’S WADDLING PIRATE PENGUINS!

First of all, allow me to thank every single one of you that was able to attend Region 8 Conclave, December Division Council Meeting, and our Division Ice Skating Fundraiser! I could have easily lost my motivation earlier in the term, but witnessing each and every one of you continue to attend division events makes me even more excited to plan a few more largescale events before my retirement in March. With that being said, I look forward to seeing all of you at our first ever Division Game Night! This event is Sunday, January 19th at the Lomita-Harbor City Kiwanis Hall. More information can be found on the Division Instagram and Facebook! Division MDE Coordinator Nick has done an amazing job planning and preparing for this event. What a term! Only two more months until each officer, both club and division, retire from their respective positions. For those seniors, make these last two months of your Key Club journey incredible. Inspire underclassmen to serve their home, school, and community. Support the new members that are unsure about their future. Continue to make a difference at the end of your high school career. Be the amazing person I know each of you are. Moving forward, Division 19 North will be under the leadership of Ryan Son, Executive Assistant and Vice-President of CAMS Key Club, throughout the 2020-2021 term. I am completely confident that he will take Division 19 North to never-before-seen heights. If you see him around, make sure to congratulate him for his efforts thus far. Time to finish this letter. As per the Division Monthly Report Form submitted on January 10th, 2020, Division 19 North has earned 5002.5 service hours and raised $1,793.15 for the Pediatric Trauma Program, still without the money raised from Division Spirit Gear. Remember, two months left in the term! Our goals have not been met yet, but that doesn’t mean we can’t reach them later. Keep up your service. Keep attending Division Fundraisers. Do whatever you can to contribute to the Division! One last note, I hope to also see everyone at our January Division Council Meeting with Division 13 North Green Monkeys on the 25th! See you there!

WADDLING FOR SERVICE,

ANDREW YANG

Division 19 North Lieutenant Governor 19’-20’

On December 27th, Lawndale Key Club went to the PB Science service event in Inglewood. We helped pack lesson materials make science kits for students in elementary schools. For this month, we packed materials that would help students make musical instruments, learn about fossils, and understand how magnets worked. Some of us worked on cutting cardboard boxes and putting rubber bands into small bags for the instruments. While others were working on wrapping wires and packing batteries and putting nails into small bags to make magnets. By the end of the event, there were 125 science kits! We had fun at this event and can’t wait to go next month!

Conclave Session Ryan Son CAMS | Co-Vice President CAMS Key Club appointed two delegates to be our representatives at the Region Conclave on December 22. We chose Celeste Gastelum, our current Secretary, and Angela Francisco, a dedicated general member. Our specifically supported all three representatives from CAMS Key Club. They were Ryan Son, Cathleen Uy, and Sarah Blosser. We were able to witness Ryan and Cathleen moving onto the nomination conference, and then from there, Ryan winning the position of Lieutenant Governor. We are confident that Ryan will do great things for the division and extremely proud of him. We also got to see the new elects for the other divisions in our region, Javier, Luisa, Anran, and Vyanh.Â

Co-Vice President | Ryan Son

For the month of December, CAMS Key Club attended numerous service and division events. On December 22, CAMS Key Club appointed two delegates to vote on our division’s next Lieutenant Governor at Region 8 Conclave! It was a really great experience for members both new and old to see how the election process works. Several CAMS Key Club members also attended the Operation Jack Marathon where we were awarded an amount of money for having a certain number of volunteers. We also attended the Rose Floats which most of our District was invited to attend. We held numerous services and shifts such as helping with vials, sweeping, scaffolding, and helping prepare roses. CAMS Key Club was also awarded club of the month and had the Division’s Member of the Month, Damian Romualdo.

12 | CLUB RECAP

LAWNDALE President | Shannon Sukantri

For the month of December, we had a club meeting on December 10th to talk about upcoming service events. We also had a board meeting on December 11th to discuss possible ways to fundraise money for our club and for PTP. On December 27th, from 9:30 am to 11:30 am, we had the PB Science Service event, where we packed science kits for elementary schools, and 6 people attended this event. On December 28th, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, we volunteered at the Under the Bridge and on the Streets event, which we helped pack bags of food and supplies for the homeless, and we had 5 people attend this event. On December 30th, we had a board meeting to discuss new service events for the month of January and possible fundraisers.

13 | CLUB RECAP

LEUZINGER

President | Jorge Arroyo Vice President | Juan Contreras

During the month of December Leuzinger Key Club members participated in various community service events. First and foremost, seven of our members opened up the last month of the year by attending the Holiday Pasta Luncheon at the Hawthorne Memorial Center on December 6th; there they helped set up the luncheon and distribute the food to the patrons that attended. Additionally, on the same day fourteen of our members assisted with the Class of 2024 Visit attended by middle schoolers, there they guided and answered questions from the possible future Olympians. Both the prior events took place before school ended, after school of the same day, eighteen members attended the Angel Tree Lighting Ceremony at the Lawndale Library and assisted where possible. Moreover, on the 20th of December, a few members attended the Winter Wonderland Spectacular at the Hawthorne Memorial Center, where they assisted with game booths and other assigned tasks. Finally, on December 28th, nearly thirty members took part in the most anticipated volunteer event of the year, they helped decorate and assemble the necessary decorating equipment at the Rose Float Parade Decorating Event with D19N.

14 | CLUB RECAP

HAWTHORNE

President | Eduardo Barajas

For the month of December Hawthorne did very well with service hours! The month started with an orientation the 19th for a later event where we had a board member and a general member attend to inform the club. Then there was the Gardena Willows event the 21st which was one of three events being held on the same day. There we helped preserve the native species and to the best of our ability to remove the harmful non native species with the division. Only an hour or two later was the next event of the day which was lead by another board member was the Winter Wonderland event where we made little Felt Ornaments with small kids in preparation for the holiday season. Right as the previous event ended the next one started and this was the Hawthorne Memorial Winter Wonderland Spectacular event which was a bit closer for most of our members and was the most attended event of the day as it was from 3pm-9pm and there we did a variety of different tasks. From running Game booths to helping with snow areas we helped kids and families get into the winter holiday spirit alongside other clubs from the area. With that event concluded the jam packed day of service events but not the end of events for the month. The Next Service event of the month and the last was the Region 8 Rose Float Decorating the 28th with not only our division but the whole region! There we helped with the many tasks we were given from stacking pallets, filling vials with water, and placing glue onto the flowers to actually getting to work on the floats and the scaffolding. It was definitely on of the longest events our members have attended but it was also one of the best as we met others from the region as we worked! Although it was not a service event we also supported our division by attending an Ice Skating event the 29th at the Toyota Sports Center and had some fun while we were at it!

GARDENA

15 | CLUB RECAP

President | Debbie Garcia

Hey Pirate Penguins! For the month of December, Gardena Key Club has helped in multiple service events. To start off the month we volunteered at Nakaoka Center on Dec. 3rd for their annual Winter Wonderland where they helped in certain activities such as the craft area where kids got to make their own mask. Later on there was Christmas Craft Night at 186th Elementary School on Dec. 13th where members helped supervise craft areas. The next day there was Breakfast with Santa where members either helped serve food or helped in craft stations at Nakaoka. Towards the end of the month, members also attended Rose Float Parade Decorating where they had the opportunity to meet new people from our region and help decorate the rose floats.
