PIRATE PENGUINS

Wow what a term it has been! I cannot believe how fast these twelve months have been; it feels as if the term just started! Although I know I’m not emotionally ready to leave Key Club, I have no regrets with how we have done as a division. You have all made an impact on my life for the better, and I cannot express how much I admire and appreciate what you all have done. This term has been full of surprises. From increasing DCM attendance to 150 members in October to serving almost 10,000 hours to aid the community to raising around $6,000 for Key Club’s preferred charities to winning the spirit stick at Region Training Conference AND Fall Rally South (for the first time), you all have made me the proudest Lieutenant Governor in the district. For all the underclassmen who aren’t graduating, take advantage of this club! There are so many opportunities offered and many things that I wish that I would have done earlier. It is up to you all to be the future of Key Club! With that said, I have full confidence in all the elected officers. I have seen you all grow throughout this

past term, and I cannot wait to see your skills flourish.

It has truly been an honor serving you, Division 19 North. There will be many bittersweet moments as we transition into the 2017-2018 term, but I have no regrets. I couldn’t have asked for a better and more enthusiastic division to serve. I hope this term has been a blast for all of you: a time to build friendships, to make lasting memories, to develop lifelong skills, to learn about yourself, and to appreciate and assist the community. Whenever I see members from different schools come together and socialize or whenever I see a shy member emerge into a loud spoken leader, there aren’t words to describe how proud I am. Although for many of us, our time may be up in Key Club, our friendships will last for the duration of our lives. You all hold a very special place in my heart and are a huge part of my life. I hope that I, too, had the privilege of making a difference in your lives, and I wish that our journey doesn’t end here.

EXECUTIVE ASSISTANTS It has been magical serving as your Executive Assistant! The memories we made this term will last a lifetime~never forget you’re the real MVP’s (Most Valuable Penguins). I hope I was able to spark at least the tiniest bit of inspiration within all of you because you’ve all impacted my life in the most wonderful ways. The term is over, but still feel free to contact me for whatever you may need! Sadly this term is unrepeatable, but thank you D19N, for making it a memorable one. Keep serving with a smile <3

It has been a great pleasure to serve you all this term. From the moment I joined this club, I knew it would be something special. To be able to give back as Executive Assistant to the club that has taught me so much was hands down the best job ever. From filling out forms to talking to presidents, this position was the ultimate way to get to know this division better. I enjoyed talking to you all and getting to know you; some I have known for the past four years and some I have just met. No matter where I go, Division 19 North will always be my ohana, always near and dear to my heart. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for this division, and I know you all will do great things. (let’s win that spirit stick again!!) Thank you for making my last term amazing, pirate penguins. Love, Emily Terranishi

What??! Did you say the term is ending? I can't believe a whole term has passed since I became EA! It was a gr8 experience to serve as one of the division’s executive assistants and watch every single member grow and find themselves, in key club. I was able to meet so many of my fellow Pirate Penguin friends and bond with y'all. The term may be ending, but it is the beginning of another great term with our amazing Lt. Governor, Hazel Cartagena! My personal experience with key club was an amazing one. I was able to be myself and find happiness while volunteering with other members! I hope everyone is able to experience the joy that I've found through key club (: Lastly, thank you so much to our current Lt. Governor Chris Soo-Hoo, who has made our division how we are now and has helped every member had the full key club experience! With lots of love for my penguins, Celia <3

Division news editor Wow. I honestly can’t believe that our term is pretty much over. Looking back at it, words can’t describe how honored I am to have been your division news editor! Although at times, making all these graphics, flyers, newsletters, etc was strenuous and difficult, I think it was worth all those hard-worked hours. To be able to make “eye candy” for you guys is something that I really enjoy doing, and I’m really grateful for the opportunity to do so and develop my skills. BUT, it wouldn’t have worked if you, the members, officers, etc, did not do what Key Clubbers do best: volunteer! It was amazing to be able to receive all the articles and visuals of what your clubs did each month! Also, if not for you guys reading my newsletters, there wouldn’t be an audience, so thank you for that as well! Lastly, I just want to wrap up by saying that I am so blessed to been a part of the DLT. Working with every one of them has been an amazing ride. And although I’m sad to say that our ride is now over, I am optimistic and hopeful for the next one! Thank you D19N for everything that you’ve done for me and making my term as DNE a truly memorable experience!

Member recognition coordinator Division 19 North, it has been an honor serving as your Member Recognition Coordinator this past term. I have seen an immense and outstanding growth in many of the clubs and in all of you, and I know that you will all continue to buzz and waddle with spirit, kindness, and passion this upcoming term. Don't forget the Key Club Core Values and Our Motto: "Caring—Our Way of Life" because they reflect why we do what we do and what we stand for. I would also like to provide you all with two pieces of advice: 1) Don't ever think that you aren't good enough to apply or run to be a leader. Believe in all that you can do, and go for it! 2) Don't be afraid to meet new people! I was a very shy and timid member when I first joined Key Club, but as time passed, I grew comfortable with those around me and made lots of new connections and friends. I hope you all have an amazing 2017-2018 term! Deuces! <3

Service expo coordinator Hello pirate penguins! As I watch the term come to a close. I’m not going to lie, i’m a bit bummed out. But I look back at this term and I feel happy. Serving this division has been such a great experience and i’m so thankful I got to have that experience. I’ve had so much fun meeting people, leading ice breakers, going to events, and so much more. I look back at this term and I feel proud. I am proud of all the presidents, vice presidents, secretaries, historians, treasurers, dlt, and especially our ltg! I am proud of our division for all the money we have raised and service we have done, and especially for winning the spirit sticks at frs and rtc!! I look at back at this term and I feel love. Love for my own club and officers, love for my people on dlt, and mostly, love for my division as a whole. I’m so glad to have this division as the division I serve. It has been a great term you guys! And I thank you guys, divison 19 north, for making it that way!

Ptp / eliminate coordinator The term is ending and this will be the last time you’ll hear from me as a member of DLT. Being a part of the Division Leadership Team has allowed me to view key club from a different perspective. I have found a new appreciation towards the LtGs, especially towards our very own LtG, Christopher Soo-Hoo. I’ve met tons of new people who became friends that I cherish. The term this year has been one heck of a rollercoaster and I will always be down to go on it again. It is sad that the term is coming to an end, but from planning dcms, to helping with RTC and Conclave, to winning the spirit stick at Fall Rally South, I am not as sad as I am happy. I’m happy that I got to experience such amazing events with the division I adore, and i’m happy to serve the division I love. I’d like to thank all of our advisors, cabinet members, and members for everything they have done for our division. I am extremely proud of all the things our division has accomplished and hope to see more good things in our upcoming term!

FRS spirit coordinator To the Division that gives me my inspiration, to the Division inspiration that gives me my motivation, to the Division that made my senior the best year of my life, to the Division that I wrote three of my college essays on, to the Division that made me lose my voice over fifty times... I could go on and on forever about the Division I serve. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to be silly, crazy, loud, annoying, and even Croc-tastic. Without all of you, I would not have wanted to serve you as Spirit Task Coordinator. You guys gave me the confidence I needed to do what was never done before. You guys gave me the confidence to wear the dumbest things and be proud about it, because I am proud to be a 19 North Pirate Penguin. Thank you for turning the stereotypical senior year to literally the best experience I could ever have. After winning two spirit sticks in a row (which had never been done in Region history), really showed me that following Chris Soo-Hoo to some weird service club meeting sophomore year was the best decision I could have made during high school. Whenever someone asks me what I do for fun, the first thing I say is Key Club, because I find complete joy in serving within this amazing organization. The only thing I regret about Key Club would be that I did not join sooner. Thank you again 19 North for giving the best part of my life and the best memories I could keep. Don’t worry though; I plan on sticking around hanging out with you guys every once in a while. Thanks for everything.

Social media coordinator HEELLOO DIVISION 19 NORTH! MY NAME IS RITA NGUYEN AND I PROUDLY WADDLE AND SERVE AS YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA COORDINATOR! This statement is currently true, but in a few weeks, it won’t be. This term has been hands down one of the best experiences of my life. The things I have learnt through serving with many other amazing individuals on the Division Leadership Team have not only made me more of a leader, but have made me timelessly fall in love with the feeling of serving over and over again. As this term comes to a close, many of you may be scared or anxious for the uncertainty that lies ahead. I want to tell you that regardless of the outcome of any election, you are all capable of so much more than what you think. You are leaders, and you are the writers of your own “key club story.” Do not let losses halt you, let them spark the fire of serving inside and fuel your motivation for the upcoming term. Thank you Division 19 North, for changing my life and making me happy to serve you all every day. This is not goodbye. I will always be the girl behind the camera at events, screaming and dancing her heart out. This is a new beginning, and I am very excited for what is to come.

It’s unbelievable how quickly the 2016-17 term has flown by for us Pirate Penguins. We smiled, we laughed, and we cried. We have volunteered in a multitude of projects, accumulating a total of 2953.5 service hours! We sold merchandise and bonded at restaurants as we fundraised a total of about $2100. It seems as if it were just yesterday when the officers were installed and it was just recently that we elected the incoming officers of the 2017-18 term. After these many months, we reflect on our contributions to the communities and celebrate all that we accomplished. We love service! So far, we have volunteering in 60 service projects! The first service project that the freshman attended was Happy Birthday LA 5K where they filled up balloons, cheered on runners, and passed out water. Back in November, we had 42 members help out at Color Run Night, throwing colored powder, cleaning up, and cheering on the participants! We also helped out at Feed SoCal, encouraging local Albertson customers to donate food to the less fortunate and spreading awareness on ABC7 News. We love fundraising (especially for Preferred Charities)! We hosted restaurant fundraisers at Hiccups Tea House, Frostbites, and Pieology.

We also gave members the opportunity to throw water balloons at officers for 50 cents a piece! Other than that, we created our own merchandise including the fun “I ship it” pins and 3D printed necklaces. We love bonding with our BEE-autiful Ohana! We have held several interclub projects, hosted our first Summer Social, and Banquet! Just like last year, we are hoping to wrap up the year with another Banquet which we look forward to in the month of May. What’s really amazing about this term is that after having been a part of Key Club for 4 years, this is the first time where I’ve seen a good number of active members from each grade (9th-12th)! Our Ohana has grown so much and it’s evident by attendance at DCMs, OTC, RTC, and Fall Rally South. Spirit has went up so much. For instance, when we hosted Spirit Day in preparation of Fall Rally, I was blown away by the enthusiasm and participation. I’m so thankful to have had the privilege to see the club grow and am super proud to be see all that we achieved.

With the 2016-17 term coming to an end, CAMS Key Club is excited to see what’s in store for the 2017-18 term!

As I reflect on this past term I couldn’t be more grateful and proud of everyone who has taken part in what our club has become today. Three years ago, when I first joined Key Club, there were only 10 members going to the meetings and about three members attending the DCM’s. But as our club has grown these past years, we have improved immensely on our attendance and dedication from the members to our club by having around 20 members attending the meetings and DCM’s. This year we also had a record breaking attendance of 50 members going to Fall Rally, as well as this term being our first term for Da Vinci to attend DCON! From serving over 800 hours and raising around $300, this term has been one for the books! This would not have been done without the members and I am so proud to have served as their president. They have made this term a memorable one. I can’t wait to see for what is to come for Da Vinci and the amazing growth that will occur with the help of the new board. Thank you to everyone who has been apart of our 2016-17 journey and a special thank you to Chris Soo-Hoo who has exceeded the expectations of an LTG and gave us a helping hand whenever we needed it!

From the beginning of the term El Segundo had a very successful year in fundraising. At our town’s hometown fair we raised over $500 and only a few months later $800 from another fundraiser. We volunteered at several community events such as the Elementary Fall Festival, the Hometown Fair, Fourth of July Festival, Halloween Frolic and Run for Education. We also continued volunteering with organizations such as Tree Musketeers, Conquer Our Run, and South Bay Cleanup. Highlights from division events included the Aids Walk, Fall Rally, and the upcoming LA Marathon.

Overall, I think this year’s term went great! In the beginning we did not have much difficulties. I believe our members really have enjoyed the events and the great atmosphere we have been trying to provide. It was also beneficial to have new ideas flourish from cabinet to our members. Things like the monthly raffles and just simply having music before each meeting. We have also been consistent with our members of the month, not only to acknowledge, but to also motivate the others members of the great benefits we provide. So far, we have only been trying to get the most fun and exciting events, in which we know our members will enjoy and come back for more. However, toward the end we have had some difficulty trying to continue to motivate and keep our members. It makes us reflect on what we can do better for next and how cabinet can achieve that. Maybe little things like getting more events or socializing a bit more can make a great difference in our results.

As we waddle to the end of the Key Club year, as President of Gardena Key Club I am extremely proud of all the accomplishments we had as an ohana / loving club coming together to make a difference to our home, school, and community. Together we had 52 dues paid Key Club members and submitted them both on time, raised over $1,000 as a club, held many successful fundraisers all with the immense support as a whole and doing it for a good cause. All hard works and smiles only made us represent our club positively. Throughout the year we had club increasement, member attendance at both social and service events to increasing the q mount of spirit as a club. From Fall Rally rehearsals and preparing for the end with DCON to install the future of Gardena Key Club. One main fear I had starting my term as President was the amount of members who were going to stay after Fall Rally or even having enough under classmen to keep the club in great hands with the legacy I leave behind. The amount of gratitude each member had including everyone and making them feel like they’re not alone in this club was what kept it growing and now everyone has a passion to devote their time for this organization making the world a better place. Gardena Key Club has never failed to give it their all and represent us in a positive way at all times making us the ‘Best of 19 North’ throughout the whole term.

The end of our 2016-17 term is slowly closing in, and it’s time see our club’s growth since the beginning. HMSA Key Club set a goal of 100 dues-paid members, 300 hundred volunteer hours and a $100 fundraiser goal. As the beginning of a new school-year came close, HMSA Key Club publicized during the Freshmen class’ Summer Bridge. We also held multiple informational meetings to motivate students. By the end of September, we had 149 dues-paid members. Various opportunities was provided to the members: TLC Tree musketeers events, multiple Htb beach cleanups, Alive and running 5k, Joint Kiwanis beach clean-ups, Kickin cancer and various running events. HMSA Key Club has raised around $450 for donations to our preferred charities. In preparation for Fall Rally South, we held weekly spirit sessions to motivate members and had eleven service events for the month of October: RTC, BBQ Night, AYSO Soccer Festival, walk4ALZ, AIDS Walk, Skechers Pier to Pier Friendship Walk, UCLA's Key To College, Hawthorne's Halloween carnival, LA Cancer Challenge, Color Run and an FRS Spirit Day with the attendance of 80+ members. For Thanksgiving, we held a Canned Food Drive to help those in need. Girls on the Run Fall 5k Run/Walk.

Hawthorne’s Annual Relay for Life Event, and Multicultural. We also began partnering with other schools for joint-service events: LA Food Bank alongside Da Vinci Science Key Club, City of Hawthorne’s Good Neighbors Day + Car Show and Beach Clean-ups with Lawndale Key Club, and LA Cancer Run/Walk and Suicide Prevention walk with CAMS Key CLub. We also began working closely with both our Division and Kiwanis partnerships: Kiwanis DCMs, Beach Cleanups, and Meetings. As part of the world’s largest Leadership Organization, we worked on building character and leadership skills. Members volunteered at our school during our freshman orientation called, “Summer Bridge,” where we served as leaders of freshman groups. We implemented new ways for general members to lead by encouraging them to share their experiences, or give small challenges such as planning or leading one service event. In order to spread Key Club, we held multiple club meetings and participated in our school’s “Club Rush.” We are honored to have so many active and inclusive members. Members were able to build new bonds within the Region, and truly create life-lasting memories.

Member activeness increased as the number of opportunities given increased: Hollywood’s Annual 5K/10K Race, Hawthorne's 5k, “Paint Your World Purple,”

This term has been a crazy and cheerful ride. We started off the term with advertising for our club at our school’s club rush where we were able to procure over 160 sign ups. From this moment, our board gained determination to show what volunteering truly means to the people who signed up for the club. I’d say that this has been one of the best terms that our club has to offer. For the first few months, our club had numerous people attend different service events and division events. There were new faces everywhere. We did not see the same people taking part of the service events that we offered. Our club had tons of participation at the beginning of the term, and had even more once Fall Rally came around. Once we announced Fall Rally, mostly everyone in our club was excited and looked forward to participating in the event. We had 22 members attend Fall Rally this year. Everyone who attended enjoyed their day, especially when we all met together in the Golden Bear Theater to show off our rad cheers to the other divisions.

Despite the fact of losing some of our voices, it was worth it in the end as we won the spirit stick! After Fall Rally, our club sort of went downhill. We’ve had less members attend our club meetings and service events. We were hoping that DCON would invigorate our members to be interested in the club again, but our members were not too fond of the prices of the event. If there is one thing that I hope we can improve upon, is to keep our members interested in the club after Fall Rally because once Fall Rally was over, our members began to drift away. However, this term has been a great experience for everyone that has participated in the club. People learned what it means to volunteer and were able to gain a few leadership and responsibility skills while serving their community. Despite the fact that the term is nearing its end, I hope to finish this last month strong and bring more members into our club to get them to join again next year. I am also looking forward to what our new board will do to enhance our club for next year.

The term this year was amazing. I had the pleasure and great time learning more about key club. Leuzinger Key Club has has really grown is size compared to the years before and many more members have been more involved as well. This is by far the greatest year of Key Club Ihave ever experienced. I have had the opportunity to work with many young passionate individuals who have taught me to be a better person and had taught me the value of teamwork. I hope the future years will be as bright as this one. May we as Key Club continue to strive and help our community.

Da VINCi It surely has been a Fin-tastic term and we’re so proud to present Justin Hardy as our February Member of the Month! Although the term is coming to an end, that doesn't mean that service ever stops. This is especially the case for Justin. He has been very consistent with attending weekly meetings and volunteering events throughout the year. Justin is such a kind, sweet person who adds so much to our club and community. We’ve been privileged enough to see him grow through Key Club and can't wait to see how he furthers his love for KC in the future.
