Letter From The LTG

Hello Division 19 North, Thank you to all of you who attended the May Division Council Meeting! I hope you all had a blast and were able to meet and interact with new friends! As the end of school is approaching and the graduating seniors are leaving us, please remember to keep serving the community and to keep recruiting more members! It is important that we continue giving back and making the world a better place. Our actions truly impact our surroundings even when we do not realize it. While doing this, make sure to enjoy your summers! We all deserve a break from school and work! But also make sure to keep an eye out for an Olympic Games DCM and Officer Training Conference this summer! We’ll be having plenty of division events, so come out when you can! We’ll be having plenty of fun! This term is off to a great start! I am looking forward to getting to know each and every one of you better, and as always, if you have any questions, comments, or concerns, feel free to contact me at any time! Waddling with a smile,

CAMS Key Club started the term off BEE-autifully with many exciting events! Our first event was Fit Nation 5K where we passed out water to the running participants. We were fortunate enough to have had the chance to explore the set of the Warner Brothers! We were so glad that we had two opportunities to bond directly alongside fellow Pirate Penguins! For Kiwanis One Day, we volunteered with Gardena Key Club and CSUDH Circle K, helping beautify the gardens at a senior citizen mobile park home. The following week, we met up and volunteered with El Segundo Key Club picking up trash and weeds along the nearby roads. That same weekend, we helped out with Dragon Boat Racing, cheering on racers and escorting teams. Many of us would agree that this event was quite funny because one of our members earned a medal after having hopped onto the boat of a team she helped. Most recently, we participated in the March of Dimes, raising funds, walking for the cause, and meeting the Seals! Other than service projects, we held our first general and board meeting of the term! The officers serving CAMS Key Club discussed goals for PTP as well as the ELIMINATE Project. We also made sure to set new individual goals while coming up with a few changes regarding signups and suggestions. At our general meeting, we released Fundraising Chair applications. We have not yet appointed the two chairs yet, but we are very excited to see who will join the board! On a side note, we are currently planning our very own banquet. We are sincerely hoping for a great turnout on this special night. All of us are transitioning into this new term, hoping to reach new heights! We certainly cannot wait to see what the 2016-17 term has in store for us! - Aileen Maranan

The month of April has been very eventful and exciting for Da Vinci because of the start of the new term. The new board has been coming together and having board meetings to discuss our future plans for our club by setting personal and club goals. At the beginning of the month, our club was just wrapping up Pennies for Patients and altogether made $247.39 with the help of our school. In addition, near the middle of the month, Da Vinci started off strong by already having a fundraiser to raise money for our club at Blaze Pizza, which was a huge success because many people from inside and outside the club attended. Lastly, at the end of the month Da Vinci helped HMSA Key Club and Interact club during Relay for Life which helped raised money for those who have been diagnosed with cancer, we had seven members attend and some even stayed for all 13 hours! Overall, April has been a very productive yet capable month for the club and we hope to continue this progress throughout the term. As the new board continues to grow and strive along with the club, we plan to begin and end the month of May strongly with more fundraisers and many more volunteering events offered for our members.

This month we continued our volunteering with the Tree Musketeers organization by joining them in both a regular Saturday maintenance event and their Earth Day Celebration event. We

also continued our collaboration with Conquer our Run and helped pass out goody bags, medals, and record times of runners at our local beach. Between volunteering events we planned for one of our biggest annual fundraisers, selling

snow cones at our city’s Hometown Fair. Since it was Eliminate week earlier this month, we also discussed the Eliminate Project and how we can do more to support it. - Zoe Forest DIVISION 19N NEWSLETTER | JUNE 2016 | PAGE 14

As we waddle into the new term Gardena Key Club was full of events to offer. Within the month, we have had four events. Three of them being held at our local elementary school located on 186th Street. 186th has always been there to provide us with events and generous to offer chances in order for us to fund-raise for our club. Our first event of the new term Kiwanis One Day, however, was held at Gramercy Village Trailer Park where we worked alongside with CAMS Key Club. At Kiwanis One Day, we helped the local community by cleaning and working on the garden of these mobile homes. Cal State Dominguez Hills was also there in attendance helping us and informing us about Circle K. The next event we had was in celebration of Earth Day. At this event, we were in collaboration with Loyola Marymount University where we helped in the many activities that our local elementary was hosting. We made little succulent pots and created cacti that will later be sold at an upcoming event called "Concert in the Park." The next service event our club had was a clean up at 186th Street Elementary School. At this service event, we basically did the same thing as we did on earth day except this time, we focused more on the school's garden where we watered the plants, dug out weeds and even created more succulent pots. To wrap up the first month of the new term, our club was able to sell refreshments and snacks at a concession stand in a yard sale hosted by the counselor of 186th's Street Elementary School, Ms. Jane Tokubo. It was great to see many of our dedicated members contributing to the community and attending these events. We hope for the best for the upcoming term and our club only ever grows as we waddle for service.

This month went by very quickly. We had a total of four major events that we all looked forward to. Many attended these events. The first event of April was an Earth Day fair. There our members helped clean and teach about how important it is to keep the earth a healthy environment. We had two events on the same day, one being to help clean our school theatre(Nyman Hall) and the other being Paint the Town Purple for another important event. Our members had an amazing time decorating our time for an incredible cause. Our final and most fun event was Relay for Life. This event was the event all of us looked forward to. We got a deeper meaning of what cancer really is and how we can play our part for something useful. Other than that it was our usual meetings; enjoying the presence of our beloved members. - Genesis Granados DIVISION 19N NEWSLETTER | JUNE 2016 | PAGE 17

This picture was the day before for relay for life. Our members set up the area and cleaned up. We put up signs and set up the stage for relay. Most kids stayed from 36pm. We all had a lot of fun.

The next day was Relay for life. Most of us stayed there for 24hrs - walking and or sleeping over trying to raise money for a cure for cancer.

The month of April has been a busy month for HMSA Key Club. In between all the planning, preparations for events, and hard work of the members, we ended the hectic month full of spirit. Our first event was

Hollywood’s Annual 5K/10K Race where members volunteered to pass out water, fruits, and medals to participants of the race. The next event was luminary bag decorating for our Hawthorne Relay for Life event. Our members decorated a total of 286 bags which were placed on the bleachers of Hawthorne High to spell out the words “HOPE” and “Cure.” Our next event was creating decorations for HMSA’s Annual Multicultural festival where members created banners, posters, and decorations to place around the school. Later in the month, our members participated in “Paint Your World Purple” to spread cancer awareness and encourage people to donate. Our members went around the city of Hawthorne to put posters and streamers everywhere. Lastly, our pre-RFL (Relay for Life) set up and actual RFL event happened on April 29-31. HMSA Key Club attended alongside Da Vinci Science Key Club where members helped set-up booths, walked for cancer awareness, and fundraised for the American Cancer Society. HMSA key club raised $459 which was donated at the end of the day.

With the start of a new term, Lawndale Key Club wanted to begin the term with a positive start. We started off the month with a yard sale event that was hosted by one of our clubs at Lawndale (Friendship Circle). Within this event, the club was able to raise $476 in order to purchase prom tickets for those who are less fortunate to go to prom. We

also participated in Tree Musketeers event in which we removed obstacles such as weeds and trash from the ground so that we were able to make room to plant some trees. The old board and the new board held an Office Training Conference as well. We played a couple of icebreakers in order to know each other better. The old board was also able to provide us with a powerpoint presentation that demonstrated what our role should do and what is expected of us for the new term. In the end, we are determined in bringing Lawndale Key Club

to even greater heights compared to the last term.

During the next term, Samohi Key Club hopes to

attract more members to expand the club and get more students involved in community service. Additionally, we want to attract enough members so

that we can become a more active club. We hope to provide more community service opportunities so that everyone has a chance to participate. We also want members to be able to participate in a variety of events to learn more about our community and discover a specific area of service that they are interested in. Through participating in a variety of events, students will be exposed to new environments and perhaps discover a passion for a specific area of service, whether it be helping the environment, schools, or charity programs. - Hanna Gratch DIVISION 19N NEWSLETTER | JUNE 2016 | PAGE 24

MaiAngel Tabujara CAMS Our member of the month is MaiAngel Tabujara! Already at the beginning of the term, MaiAngel has been incredibly active in Key Club. She has been to majority of the meetings and is always participating in ice breakers and conversing with someone new! Even though she might only be a freshman, she already shows plenty of initiative and leadership skills at service events such as at our Dragon Boat Racing Event. She took one of the hardest tasks and also cheered as loud as she could for the participants in the race! She also participated at another service event, YallWest, and was extremely helpful. Because she has dedicated so much of her time to serve for the community with joy and spirit, MaiAngel is our Member of the Month! DIVISION 19N NEWSLETTER | JUNE 2016 | PAGE 27

Even as a freshman, he has had a great start through Key Club and we know he will continue to grow and serve through Key Club. Kathleen Moran

El Segundo For the member of the month I have chosen Kathleen Moran. While some of our more active members were away at DCON, Kathleen was the only one who woke up early to go volunteer at a run. When the president and vice-president were away taking a mock AP, Kathleen went out of her way to be the only member to volunteer at Tree Musketeer’s Earth Day Celebration. Even though she is not an officer, she was instrumental in planning the Hometown Fair. She is always eager to help even when she doesn’t have time or when no one else seems to put in effort. She is a great ‘go-to’ member and she is always dependable. She is a great person and great member. DIVISION 19N NEWSLETTER | JUNE 2016 | PAGE 29

Jesse Nunez Gardena The member of the month is Jesse Nunez. He is a dedicated, well-rounded member, who always gives his 100% into serving his community. With his optimistic and witty personality he brings a smile to everyone who gets a chance to talk to him. Jesse definitely deserves to be Gardena High School's member of the month. He has been to all of our events for the past two months. I cannot wait to see where his future takes him. DIVISION 19N NEWSLETTER | JUNE 2016 | PAGE 30

Ronaldo Robles HMSA

For the month of April, a Key Clubber that really caught our eye was Ronaldo Robles. Ronaldo has been in Key Club for a long time and he has always been very active. He has a great track record when it comes to events and you can always count on seeing him at most of the events. He is always in a great mood and is always very approachable and fun to talk to. He is enthusiastic when it comes to participating in events and always puts in his best effort as a member. We see Ronaldo as a great example of what Key Club embodies and we hope others would follow in his footsteps as a role model. We think that he deserves more recognition but all we can give is our gratitude for being one of the best Key Club members a club could ever want. We hope that our members can reflect on how amazing he is and we wish him the best in college and his future.
