CLUB Articles CAMS

May was a great month for CAMS Key Club in terms of serving, fundraising, and much more. We started off the month By Christopher Soo-Hoo with ELIMINATE week where we raised awareness for MNT by getting members to participate in simple daily tasks. Members also went around school and their neighborhoods with ELIMINATE bags asking for donations. By doing this we raised roughly $525, enough to save 290 mothers and all of their future children. CAMS Key Club also volunteered that week at Alondra Park’s fishing derby, a day of checking fishermen’s raffle tickets and preparing lunch. The following weekend, we volunteered at the Torrance Regional Middle School Math Competition where we helped set up tables, dividers, and signs. And finally on Memorial weekend, we spent out day Sunday at the Hermosa Fiesta. We helped run the information booth and a bike corral where we tagged and guarded bikes for free to encourage people to bike to the event, causing less pollution. On Memorial Day, our day off from school, we helped out at the Walk for Warriors 5K event, a 5K run for veterans. We registered runners and worked at a water station. After the event, we had a fundraiser at Aloha Pizza to raise money for PTP. Currently, we are making leis to sell at graduation coming up in less than a week! CAMS Key Club had a great time in May, and we are looking forward to our summer events!

Da Vinci

The month of May went well for Da Vinci Science Key Club! We started off the first weekend of May serving the community By Christian Cisneros with El Segundo’s Key Club. They invited us to attend the El Segundo Hometown Fair, and we were able to help them raise funds for their club, Eliminate, and the Special Olympics through hosting an ice cream sundae stand! We helped raise approximately $200.00 dollars! Moreover, for the month of May, we finished up collecting and counting the Pasta for Pennies donations! We raised approximately $58.00 dollars for patients who suffer from Leukemia and Lymphoma! While we were not able to meet our goal, we are still content with being able to raise more than $50.00 for patients! We also had our first bake sale of the Key Club term! A few Key Clubbers also attended the event held at the new Da Vinci High School building in El Segundo where members organized, took inventory, and packed boxes for those suffering from Ebola in West Africa. Later on, seven to eight of our Key Clubbers attended the Division 19 North Banquet, and three were recognized for their passion and service to the division. Overall, the month of May went great for Da Vinci Science, and we are looking forward to the month of June! Go Pirate Penguins!

El Segundo

This month, El Segundo Key CLub spent time volunteering at both fundraisers and service projects, gathering By Hannah C. Levy information about the upcoming Special Olympicsand become more informed about the Key Club chosen charities. The first event of the month was the El Segundo Hometown Fair where 8 members of our club and 7 from Da Vinci made and sold ice cream sundaes to raise funds for the Special Olympics and Project EliMiNaTe. The second event of the month was the Run for Our Heroes where some of our members helped run all aspects of the race including timing, registration and distributing victuals and beverages. At the race our club met some other key clubbers from Division 19 South and were able to bond instantly with our Key Club connection. The third event we attended was the Moto Art Special Olympics Fundraiser where our members facilitated fundraising for the special Olympics through distributing appetizers and encouraging people to participate in the silent auction. At the end of the month was the 2014-2015 Division 19 North End of the Year Celebration/May DCM. Although we are sad about all of our division's seniors leaving, we cherish the memories we made with them and cannot wait to continue their legacy for years to come.

Gardena

I am proud of our accomplishments for the month of May. Our club was educated about The Eliminate Project By Tina Duong and celebrated Eliminate Week by hosting a raffle towards eliminating maternal and neonatal tetanus. We would like to give our thanks to all the folks who contributed and congratulations to Richard Ochoa, Lakisha Clark, and Amanda Johnson for winning the raffle. During this time, we were also working very hard in finishing the school year with various service events. Fishing in the City was a wonderful collaboration with CAMS Key Club where we worked together, serving delicious food and determining the raffle winners to the participating members within the community. Owl Awards Night was when our friendly key club members sold snacks and drinks to the parents and students of 186th Elementary School. Over there, we fundraised money for our club during the Health Fair. Our bonds and laughter increased as we shared the fun moments of pieing our members in the face. Besides all the events, we had our Division and Club Banquet. I thought it was a great way to wrap up the school year and seeing key club members being awarded for their amazing service. Of course, Gardena Key Club will continue to bring passion and amazing service to the community!

Hawthorne

This past month at hawthorne high school we had the opportunity of By Nicolas Fernandez volunteering at a city function fundraising for the K9 police units. We served the respected guests of the city throughout the night by bringing them food, drinks, and deserts. All the proceeds of the dinner went to the K9 police unit. We also volunteered at the Hermosa beach city center for a film festival in which we ushered, set up, and directed people coming to watch films. I personally had a marvelous time at the end of the year Key-Club celebration and cannot wait for the upcoming term.

HMSA

The month of May started off with a bang as students, board and club members were stressing out over AP By RicardoAlmazan exams during a course of two weeks. In response, the club made pins stating “Good luck on your AP exams!” or “You can do it!” and such. We pinned people at randoms and this really boosted the confidence in many, and even got a few non-clubbers to attend club meetings. During that week, members were able to volunteer at the annual Mother’s Day Hawthorne 5K. Here members, much like all the other races they had volunteered in, would pass out drinks to runners, cheer them on, and even had the chance to be in a mascot suit. The following week had a member-favorite event in that they had the opportunity to volunteer at an art show presenting street art. Members showed up ready to set up, pass out food and drinks, and clean up as well. This was an amazing experience as members also got familiar with their local art scene and even helped out/could participate in a Smash Brothers Melee tournament. As AP testing came to an end, the club’s take on Eliminate Week took charge; we started off by raising awareness in our school by passing out flyers and setting up posters and such. We would latter randomly pin people hoping that it would encourage many to donate (and it did). As a fundraiser, we introduced new styles of club pins that many people are still buying today. Lastly, to close the month, the K-9 Community Dinner took place, and members were able to serve dinners, set up, and more while provided with dinner themselves. The month of may seemed like a highly productive month for the club, but the club and board members alike still strives to go above and beyond even further.

King Drew

The month of May for Key Club was a rather calm, yet exciting one. King Drew Key Club had volunteered at The Los By Alan Sanchez Angeles Regional Food Bank where our club members, along with other volunteers, fervently worked together to sort food for the homeless. Another event King Drew Club participated in was the Walk To Cure Arthritis as volunteers to set up and help throughout the entirety of the event. The last thing we did before this month ended was attend the End Of Year Celebration for D19th North.
