Division 19 North, Thank you all for attending the September DCM! This has been the most attended DCM I have ever experienced and it could have not happened without you all! Welcome to the start of the busiest time of the whole entire term. Like I always say, we should always include the clubs within the division we serve together, and it is another way to keep check other in check as this time is a tough time to have an equal balance of Key Club and school. As the AIDS Walk comes closer, please remember we are walking as a division to serve, and to check the division website for the waitlist form. Remember the reason why we are all in Key Club, is to serve back and better the community. I am very excited to serve along with you throughout the term and please remember that I am always more than happy to help you all, no matter how small or big the problem or question is about Key Club. I hope you all are excited about Region Training Conference coming up this October! Waddling to Serve, Carolyn Chang DIVISION 19 NEWSLETTER |OCTOBER 2015 | PAGE 3

CAMS Key Club had an amazing month of August! We began the By Christopher Soo-Hoo month volunteering at the Special Olympics cheering on athletes competing in tennis, swimming, and the half marathon. We also had our Kiwanis Takeover with Gardena Valley Kiwanis and raised $200 which will be going towards PTP. The next week we volunteered at Mud Mania, a children’s festival where we carved soap and worked with mud. The following weekend, CAMS Key Club joined forces with Gardena Key Club and volunteered at the Jazz Festival where we worked as waiters for the VIP Area. To get a head start on the school year, we had our very first club meeting of the year and had almost 100 members show up! We hope to recruit even more members as club rush draws nearer. We had a blast at our last event of the month, the night color run, and it was the first event for many freshmen! CAMS Key Club enjoyed a very active August, and now that we are back in school, we are ready for September and planning for club rush in October!

The month of August was a very exciting month for Da Vinci By Christian Cisneros Science! During the first few weeks of August, Da Vinci officers had a board meeting in order to discuss future goals, fundraisers, club rush, and many other topics of importance. In addition, Da Vinci had its first “Welcome Back! meeting on August 25th, and many new faces came out to see what Key Club was all about. In addition, members attended the Division Council Meeting on Saturday, August 29, and helped raise funds for PTP through pieing the DLT and Presidents for a $1.00 donation! In addition, Da Vinci had its second Key Club meeting on September 1st, and members helped Key Club prepare for club rush. We already see new members and new passion, and it makes us very happy! As a group, we made signs, posters, and gathered our ideas for the upcoming week. While we were not able to volunteer as much as we would have liked this month, we will definitely find time in September. We are ready for September!

This month several of our officers attended the division Officer By Hannah C. Levy Training Conference where we learned about how to successfully complete the duties of our positions as well as attended workshop sessions teaching how to make the most of our clubs. At the DCM, our club was happy to pie Carolyn, Hannah and Emily. During the first week of school we held a board meeting to discuss upcoming events and plan for the upcoming school year. Because our club rush is in September, we decided to make clothes pins and posters to advertise our club. Although a calm month, September through the rest of the term will be nonstop and we are ready for the increase in action and new members!

Summer break is officially over and to kickoff the school year, we By Tina Duong had our club meeting to welcome back our key clubbers that will be sharing another year filled with exciting memories. Our members started to volunteer for events and needless to say, the turnout was very successful. Most of them took place at 186th Elementary where we helped water the garden, sold snacks/drinks, recycled Capri Sun pouches, and organized books for the students to read. During the Gardena Jazz Festival at Rowley Park, we collaborated alongside with CAMS Key Club to serve the guests in the VIP section. It was extremely interesting when we shared transportation provided by the Nakaoka Center. It was a very long day, but due to this wonderful event, it gave a lot of our members the chance to increase their hours. As of now, we are getting ready to prepare for our fundraisers that will be coming up very soon. Until then, this has been a very nice start for our club.

Hawthorne this past month focused in on club rush and the first meeting. We By Nico Fernandez did not hold any events but did really well in club recruitment. On the 28th was join a club day it was amazing. We dressed a member as a penguin and allowed students to hit him with water balloons if they promised to go to our first meeting. We set up a table with shade and passed out flyers with lollipops. We did a couple cheers during club rush and promised a shirt raffle which paid off for club recruitment. Our first club meeting was amazing I would say at least a hundred thirty people showed up. We did a brief intro of the club played a video and showed past pictures. We did the cheers for fall rally and the kids loved. We promoted the dcm beach clean up and the members are excited for it. We ended up tripling the number of people that showed to our first meeting compared to our interact club. For the August dcm other than myself my secretary attended and she loved watching me get pied in the face. Then last Friday I sat with my advisor and vice president for a couple hours and finished some organization for our event on the 26th which is a youth karate a national tournament. We will be selling food score keeping and organizing participants in line. The tournament is huge and we are hoping to make large profits because presumably there will be 300-400 people attending that we could try and sell food to. I will have members outside helping with grilling while inside I monitor all people score keeping the karate matches. We are going to sell ice cream, donuts, pastries, coffee, water, hot dogs, Nachos, etc. so I'm really excited. We are also going to have a meeting with el Rambo key club in Whittier who are going to give us around 20 volunteers to also help with the event. Our meeting will be on the 19nth with the el Rambo key clubbers. Thank you Sincerely, Nico

The month of August was a quiet month for the club. As summer By Ricardo Almazan came to a close, many members for our club were more focused on their summer work; the board decided to focus more on readying for the upcoming school year. This was done by attending the Division’s Officer Training Conference. The board was able to review and learn many of their positions’ responsibilities and are now more than eager to put them to the test recruiting new members. As August has closed, the board reviewed many ways on recruiting new members for the upcoming year. Many service events are planned and we can’t wait to host the first general meeting of the school year.

Jasee Balajadia
Jasee Balajadia is our BEEautiful Member of the Month! She has been a member since freshman year and her dedication has grown significantly overtime. She has been going to many more events recently, including the August DCM and OTC where she met new faces and proudly shouted the cheers! It’s a wonderful sight to see her having fun while giving back to the community (with a smile on her face)! She also practices inclusiveness by being very welcoming towards other members, both old and new. Her positive spirit, kindness, and humor are very contagious. All of us, including the people she serves, appreciate her and her efforts. CAMS Key Club is so proud of Jasee! Submitted by: David Lopez

Julia Elizabeth Zaldivar
Julia has been with us since last year and recently been showing more dedication to our school’s Key Club. She has showed up to both of our start up meetings to get members ready for the year and the recruiting process during the upcoming club rush. She has also been to three of the DCMs this year alone to show her support and branch out. Julia has help create signs for our club rush and she has been very helpful with staying after club meeting to give her input or if she had been interested in any of the events that were presented. Overall Julia is just a great all around member and we hope to see her at future events and division meetings.

El Segundo Key Club
Hannah Christensen Levy El Segundo Key Club’s August Member of the Month is Hannah Christensen-Levy. Below I have attached a photograph of Hannah Christensen-Levy and a paragraph about why she is our member of the month, which I wrote. Hannah is an incredibly prideful and encouraging young woman who I have had the pleasure of working with. She attends all events and works her hardest to implement all the Key Club core values. She does an excellent job of informing the members of the club of all upcoming events and gives advice to the less experienced. Hannah is unbelievably dignified, intelligent, and reliable. If anybody ever needs help or assistance, she is the quintessential example of a great leader. Hannah always works her hardest and makes sure hat Key Club comes first. She has phenomenal dedication and has greatly contributed to the club’s activities, leadership, and service projects. Congratulations Hannah for being El Segundo Key Club’s Member of the Month! Dion Bui
This month the member that really stood out was Dion Bui. Dion is part of our HMSA board and he goes far beyond his duties to make sure our members have the best experience possible. Other than constantly attending DCM’s Dion has contributed so much effort and enthusiasm to the club. Throughout the summer he has not only remained an active member, but an example of what it looks like to love service and serving your community. Dion is an exemplary member and as part of the board he really works hard to make sure our members feel comfortable and included. We had to give him a shoutout this month! He deserves a huge thank you for all he has done for the club.

Hey Penguins we have waddled on the ship of serving in our community and started school. Someone who always shows so much dedication in every event they attend is our very own club president Tina Duong. Tina is a shy little penguin with a big heart when it comes to serving her club. She will walk a mile to attend events and still have a smile on her face to serve the community. No matter what the case is Tina has everything done and will have the answers to anything. Every weekly meeting she greets her members with a smile or a simple hello to make them feel like they're noticed and thanked for all the hard work they do. Tina is a Key Club enthusiast ever since she joined her 9th grade year. Her commitment to the club and diligence in everything she does to provide for this amazing organization is appreciated in every way. With that being said Tina deserves to be recognized for her superlative service to this club.
