WHAT’S WADDLING PIRATE PENGUINS,

This was an absolutely incredible month of October! I am beyond honored to have served such an amazing group of members at the Region 8 Training Conference: PixaRTC! Although we didn’t get that RTC Spirit Stick, the passion and spirit I saw among all of you were OUT OF THIS WORLD (get it). I really cannot thank you enough for being so amazing in front of the entire Region and two District Leadership Team members. I challenge all of you to continue this sport going into Fall Rally South 2019, which is going to be on November 9th! This is really soon so keep attending our Division Spirit Sessions and continue to practice all the session cheers! Furthermore, congratulations to all those recognized at our October Division Council Meeting at Alondra Park! Everyone was recognized for outstanding service throughout the month of September! If you want to be recognized at our November DCM, continue to BEE an outstanding member of your home, school, and community! To conclude, I would like to update the Division on both our service and fundraiser progress this term. As of the October Monthly Report Form, Division 19 North has earned 2534 service hours and raised $1,015.33! These numbers are incredible, and all thanks to you! This year’s Region Training Conference was a huge success with over 700 members from Region 8 in attendance! Key Clubbers were able to learn more about Key Club, meet fellow Region 8 Aliens, and battle in a spirit session against the four other divisions including D13S, D13N, D13W, and D19S.

Congratulations to the Green Monkeys of Division 13 North for winning the spirit stick! Although we did not win the Region 8 spirit stick, the spirit that many of you guys showed was absolutely amazing and was praised by many. Thank you to all those who memorized the cheers and came with much Pirate Penguin spirit. Remember to continue practicing your cheers! If you intend on going to Fall Rally South in November, you must have these memorized and well prepared.

We had members pick up trash to make the Lomita Fair environment better. In exchange for picking up trash, there were benefits given to us such as ride tickets and food. Some student volunteers spent time in the kitchens of food booths or registers. They took in orders at many booths and gave food to those hungry attendees. Others were also asked to run game booths and help those who didn’t know how to play. The weekend went by really fast and CAMS Key Club as extremely happy to serve at Lomita Fair!

For the month of September, CAMS Key Club had many service opportunities. On September 1, Albert Chen chaired the HBDLA 5k event. Members assisted with setting up the race and with passing out water. From September 6-8, Ryan Son chaired the Lomita Fair where members picked up trash, ran game booths, and helped with food booths. Finally, Hannah Carmina chaired the St. Catherine Labourne Fiesta where most members took orders and prepared food for the Filipino Booth. CAMS Key Club had other service events as well. Several CAMS Key Club members attended the September “Pie-TP” DCM where Daniel Alonso was recognized for Officer of the Month. We also had lots of fun pieing each other. Also, this month, CAMS Key Club board has had several meetings in preparation for club rush, FRS, dues, and more.

As a club overall, we are beyond proud of our accomplishments throughout the month of September. On Saturday, September 7th three members from our club joined our Kiwanis in putting up posters throughout the city for their annual fair, which is ultimately one of their biggest fundraisers for their club. We got to talk with them about our plans for the school year and receive feedback, ultimately bettering the relationship we have. Our annual club rush was on Friday, September 13th, and within the span of three hours we got 180 students interested in Key Club! Additionally, three members from our club were able to attend the September Division Council Meeting that Sunday, September 15th where we got to pie our DLT in support of the Pediatric Trauma Program. Our first meeting of the school year was the next day on Monday, September 16th during lunch where we had an astounding 150 students in attendance! We held a thorough Key Club 101 session and talked about our Key Club moments with the new members, and this has gotten students even more interested as we have had a retention rate of about 90 students for the rest of our weekly meetings in September. That Saturday September 21st two officers from our club along with the rest of Division 19 North volunteered at our Kiwanis’ annual Fair on Richmond Street in El Segundo, we primarily aided vendors setting up, cleaning the area, directing participants, and taking down the event. Finally on Saturday, September 27th five members attended the Los Angeles Ukulele Festival along with the rest of the division, they brought back positive experiences that have brought excitement for future events amongst our members. We are beyond proud of our accomplishments throughout the month, and look forward to an amazing school year!

Greetings! For the month of September, HMSA Key Club had a successful month (though with minimal exciting events) that our fellow NEW freshman members were able to assist. And for the duration of the month, we have also been preparing for an event coming up, Fall Rally. So, first and foremost, HMSA successfully started having our weekly meetings, where we accomplished having 4 consecutive meetings without having to cancel any of them. More importantly, September 4, was when we held our first meeting with over 50- 60 students who attended! There, we were able to inform all interested members on the importance of going to events, volunteering, and expressing Pirate Penguin Spirit. As a result, we still have over 30+ of our new members who are currently active and involved in our events, and who have already signed up for future events, like: the RTC and Kickin Cancer Los Angeles 2019. One of the first events we were able to experience with our new member was the marathon that took place in Santa Monica Classic, where around 15 of our members, and 5 of our officers were able to go. There they passed out water bottles, cheered for the runners, and pretty much had a good time near the beach. In conclusion, though we haven’t had many events, we are glad to say that so far we began our year with a great start, seeing how we have seen our members demonstrate enthusiasm for the club, our peers are becoming more involved by signing up for the events, and they reach out to any of our officers if they have questions or concerns about the events. Therefore, we could say we have built a comfortable and inclusive community were we have been putting into practice the core values of Key Club, as we had planned. As a conclusion, we as officers plan to continue and implement a comfortable environment for our members, and our excited to see what our next month beholds.

President | Shannon Sukantri

In the beginning of the month of September, we had a board meeting on September 7th to discuss and prepare for Club Rush. On September 13th, we had our Club Rush and encouraged people to join Key Club. In total, we had 120 people sign up to join Key Club at Club Rush. Next, we had a community service event in Inglewood at PB Science Service Headquarters on September 14th from 9:30 am to 11:30 am, where we packed hands-on science lesson materials for elementary schools around the area. On September 15th, there was the D19N Pie-Rate DCM where pies were sold at $1 to throw at anyone. Also, on September 24th, we held our 1st club meeting and informed them about Key Club. Lastly, on September 28th from 9:00 to 12:00 pm, there was the Lawndale City Clean Up. In total 10 members came and they helped pick up trash and clean the streets of Lawndale! We also got free hotdogs at the end of the event!

LEUZINGER

President | Jorge Arroyo Vice President | Juan Contreras

During the month of September Leuzinger Key Club advertised and participated in our schools club rush. On September 12th we held our first official lunch meeting, our board members introduced themselves to the new members as well as returning members, we covered the basics of the Division, Region, and District classifications within International Key Club, and went over the member dues that need to be submitted in order to be recognized as an official member of Key Club International. More importantly, we went over the volunteer opportunities during the month of September and October. The first volunteer event that we had a member participate in was the Community Clean-Up Day at Mas Fukai Park, they picked up trash from the streets of Gardena and at the end they enjoyed the festivities provided by the tents set up. During the last Saturday of September we had two community service opportunities, the first was the Lawndale Clean-Up, where eighteen Leuzinger Key Clubbers showed up to help pick up trash on the streets of Lawndale. The second event was the LA International Ukulele Festival, two of our members volunteered with members of Da Vinci and CAMS Key Club during the first shift and assisted with the festivities.

16 | CLUB RECAP

HAWTHORNE

President | Eduardo Barajas

For the month of September Hawthorne High Key club did fairly well. The first event we had this month was the Santa Monica Classic 5K on the 8th. At this event we helped set up the race and other booths, sign in the runners, cheer them on as they ran, and handed out water. After the race was over we helped with the cleanup of the race. That same weekend we had some members attend and volunteer at the Lomita Fair. There we helped run game booths, clean up trash, and make sure things run as smoothly as possible. The event was a three day event from the 6th to the 8th and we had encouraged our members to attend on the 8th. The 15th we also attended our divisions monthly Division Council Meeting, the PIE-TP dcm where for a donation of $1 you would receive a plate of whipped cream that can be used to pie any of the Presidents, DLT, or even the LTG Andrew. Hawthorne did pie a lot of people alongside the rest of our division and helped us raise money for the PTP Charity. Before we had our fun with the Pie fundraiser though we went through with our average old and new business where we talked about what we have done since we last met and what we plan on doing. We then had our members attend a Coastal Cleanup Day on the 21st and had a blast. There we helped clean up the trash left behind by beach goers in attempt to stop said trash from ending up in our oceans and polluting them. The next service event we had was the Richmond Kiwanis street fair on the 21st where we helped clean up the trash cans and replace the trash bags. The final event we had this month was a school fundraiser to bring attention the the club and raise money for our clubs busses to events like FRS. We sold Empanadas to the students of our school alongside other clubs at the event called Club Grub. From the four favors we had that included Spinach, Spicy Beef, Chicken, and Beef we sold a total of 6 dozen. We have also started advertising our upcoming Ice Skating Fundraiser at the Toyota Sports Center to be held on the 12th of October from 7:15pm-9:45pm and other events to happen in October like a City Halloween Day to make trick or treating possible for everyone.

GARDENA

17 | CLUB RECAP

President | Debbie Garcia

Ahoy Pirate Penguins! For the month of September Gardena Key Club has had various events throughout it. During the month we had a Community Clean Up Day on September 12th. Members helped clean up around the community by picking up trash. Afterwards, the division had the September DCM on September 15th. During this DCM our Ohana (CAMS, Gardena, Leuzinger) was recognized. Additionally our advisor was recognized as Advisor of the month! On September 28th, we had the Food & Wine Festival where members were stationed at booths and helped serve a variety of different foods. We met our new advisor this month, Tim MacDonnald, the president of Lawndale Kiwanis Club! We are glad to have him as our Kiwanis Advisor for the duration of our term!
